Gmc Canyon 2019 problems

gmc logo

The Chevrolet Colorado (sharing mechanical commonality with the GMC Canyon), is a series of compact pickup trucks (mid-size since second generation) marketed by American automaker General Motors. They were introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S-10 and GMC S-15/Sonoma compact pickups. The Colorado is named after the U.S. state of Colorado, while the Canyon would be the deep chasm between cliffs.

First generation (2004)

The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon were jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, which began selling its own version worldwide in 2002. In late 2005, Isuzu offered a version in North America called the Isuzu i-series. This North American model Isuzu shared North American powertrains, styling, and equipment with the Colorado/Canyon twins and differed from Isuzu's worldwide offering. All Chevrolet, GMC, and Isuzu versions worldwide are based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.

The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

Common Gmc Canyon 2019 problems

The 2019 GMC Canyon, a midsize truck, is known for its excellent road manners and dependability. According to NHTSA reports, there have been zero recalls and only four complaints filed for the 2019 model year

. However, some common problems have been reported by owners of this truck.

  1. Engine Problems: Some owners have reported a loud clunk from the engine bay during a cold start, accompanied by vibrations throughout the cabin . This issue is often associated with the engine's cold start process, and it can be concerning for drivers.
  2. Software Problems: After software updates, some users have reported that the infotainment system displays a message asking for a password, which can be frustrating. Despite selecting the "Do Not Remind Again" option, the message continues to pop up, affecting the user experience .
  3. Fuel System Problems: There have been reports of the entire truck being destroyed by fire, with the cause being ruled as unknown by the fire department. This issue appears to be unrelated to the engine compartment, as the bed and cabin were both completely destroyed .
  4. Transmission Problems: Some owners have experienced gear slipping while driving uphill, resulting in harsh shifts and occasional stalling when accelerating at a stop sign. After changing the transmission fluid, the issue was not fully resolved, as low gear shifts still feel jerky .
  5. Phone Pairing Problems: After pairing a phone to the truck, the contacts are not displayed on the infotainment system, making it difficult to use the call feature .
  6. GPS Issues: GPS users have reported that the navigation system frequently failed to provide directions, leading many drivers in the wrong direction. This issue can be a significant inconvenience and safety concern for drivers who rely on their vehicle's GPS system .

In conclusion, while the 2019 GMC Canyon is generally a reliable vehicle, some common problems have been reported by owners, including engine issues, software problems, fuel system problems, transmission issues, phone pairing problems, and GPS issues. These problems can affect the overall driving experience and should be addressed by GMC to ensure customer satisfaction.

It was repaired by adding a new pump and fuel line. After driving it for 5 months, the same issue happened again while driving 30 mph. My safety was put at risk since it was large amounts of gasoline that it was throwing which could have easily caused a explosion/fire. Negative Gmc Canyon 2019 car reviews

  1. Jacques Bergnaum 2024-10-24

I recently upgraded from a Chevy Colorado to the GMC Canyon Denali and I must say, I'm impressed! The ride is smooth and the V6 engine provides plenty of power. It's a practical and attractive compact pickup truck that meets all our needs. However, I have experienced some reliability issues and needed to have the steering wheel, heater core, and differential replaced before 36K miles. Thankfully, these were all covered by the warranty. I have also had to replace the serpentine belt and A/C compressor, and now I'm looking at replacing the oil lines and radiator, all before hitting 50K miles. As someone who has owned GM products for the past 30 years, I have noticed a significant decline in the quality of the build, parts, and quality control. Despite these issues, I'm still happy with my purchase and will consider other brands in the future.

  2. Jean Feest 2024-09-25

Hi there! I recently traded in my 2018 Toyota Rav4 for a 2018 Canyon Denali, thinking it was the top of the line. However, I was surprised to find out that it had less options than my previous car, such as no side collision avoidance, no active cruise control, and no back up sensors. I was expecting more from a top of the line car!

  3. Faustino Dare 2024-09-22

I have owned my Canyon for less than a year. Unfortunately, it has required repairs twice, once for an exhaust sensor replacement costing over $300 and the second time for a faulty turbo which cost me over $3000. Despite these setbacks, I remain confident in my decision to purchase the Duramax and look forward to enjoying its benefits in the future.

  4. Sedrick Erdman 2024-07-19

I have experienced poor wifi connectivity in my vehicle since purchasing it on January 31st, 2019. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue through phone calls and written correspondence, the problem remains unresolved. As a result, I am hesitant to purchase another GM vehicle.

  5. Gregory Rippin 2024-07-18

I bought the vehicle back in March 2019 and, overall, I like the truck. However, I have had some issues with their 'Infotainment System'. Despite being told that the USB ports support USB devices with audio files in a number of formats, including mp3, the system does not recognize a USB stick. I have tried USB sticks of different capacities from different manufacturers, formatted in both NTFS and FAT32, as indicated in the Infotainment System booklet that came with the vehicle, but nothing seems to work. I contacted GM by phone two weeks ago and, after multiple attempts to get to someone that could help me, I was left feeling frustrated. The first person I spoke to 'escalated' the issue and assigned a case number, but then implied that the fault was the dealer's and promptly hung up after stating 'I have to terminate this call'. The second person I spoke to was a bit more understanding and listened to what I had to say, but in the end, I was left with the promise that they'll get back to me. I have searched the GMC.com websites and have found nothing that truly says what it should and shouldn't do. The General Manager at the dealer has gone so far as to say that they'll pay for an aftermarket system if I can find one that will work, but unfortunately, I haven't found anything. This experience has left me feeling disappointed, and I am unlikely to purchase another GM product in the future.

Positive Gmc Canyon 2019 car reviews

  1. Murl Beahan 2024-11-12

Solid truck with a good ride and clean interior. I really like the style of this truck. Unfortunately, the salesman misled me about his offer to sell, which resulted in us not completing the sale.

  2. Lane Wiza 2024-10-21

Features are great. You'll have all the power you need, and more than enough truck for your requirements.

  3. Damon Hettinger 2024-10-03

That sounds great! It's always a relief when something fits perfectly, isn't it?

  4. Dax Ryan 2024-09-04

We are so glad we bought our 2018 Canyon SLT brand new. Even though it's five years old now, it only has 22k miles on it. We know gas prices can be tough on everyone, but we're still very happy with our vehicle. The only issue we've had was with the Airbag Module, but it was quickly and easily replaced. Overall, we're very pleased with our purchase!

  5. Dedric Wiegand 2024-08-08

Luxury and sporty with performance! This one is definitely worth a look!
