Most vehicles for markets outside North America are manufactured at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand. All North American-market vehicles were manufactured by Shreveport Operations.
The cooperation between GM and Isuzu to build a light-duty truck and offer it in North America returns to an original arrangement the two companies had in the 1970s with the Chevrolet LUV, a rebadged Isuzu Faster.

THEY KNEW THERE WAS AN ON GOING RECALL FOR BAD VALVE SEATS AND SEALS AND SOLD THE TRUCK TO ME ANYWAY. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN HAVING ENGINE PROBLEMS AS SOON AS I GOT IT AND HAD THE TRUCK BACK TO MOTOR CITY GMC HERE IN BAKERSFIELD, CA. THREE TIMES UNDER THE LIMITED 10,000 MILE WARRANTY MISSING THREE DAY'S OF WORK EACH TIME. EVERY TIME THEY NEVER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME ALL THREE TIMES, 'WE HAD A SERVICE ADVISER DRIVE THE TRUCK AROUND AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT.' AND YET!!! AS SOON AS THE 10,000 WARRANTY WAS UP THEY SUDDENLY WILL BE GLAD TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM FOR OVER A HUNDRED DOLLARS. HOW CONVENIENT. WE CONTINUED CAREFULLY ON HOME AND INSPECTED THE BRAKE FLUID WHICH WAS OK. AFTER TURNING OFF AND THEN TURNING ON THE KEY AND STARTING THE ENGINE, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME BACK ON BUT THE BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. YESTERDAY, (11/10/2013) OUR GRANDSON BROUGHT HIS COMPUTER ANALYZER OUT, HOOKED IT UP AND DETERMINED THE FAILURE WAS IN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR. HE DID NOT CLEAR THE HISTORY FROM THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER. IT SEEMS TO ME THIS IS A PROBLEM AS THIS TRUCK HAS SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK FROM A HYUNDAI DEALER ABOUT THE FIRST OF AUGUST 2013 AND HAVE PUT LESS THAN 2,000 MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME IT HAD NEVER BEEN WRECKED NOR DOES IT SHOW ANY EVIDENCE OF HAVING BEEN REPAIRED. This truck has plenty of power for a 4 cylinder, 175 hp! I have the 5-speed and it is fun to drive and handles the road great. I have been averaging 26~28 mpg. It looks like a mid scale version of the large ones. I highly recommend it over any in its class.

I am thrilled with my first Pickup! It is not only a highly practical vehicle, but also a joy to drive. Whether I'm taking a long or short trip, I find it to be incredibly comfortable. Equipped with the Inline fuel-injected 5-Cyl., it boasts excellent power and smooth performance. I was pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage of this engine too! With its sleek all-black design and the added bonus of the 'Off-Road' package and 4-wheel drive, it handles like a dream and can tackle any terrain or weather condition. GMC should be extremely proud of this truck, as it is a definite winner!

You've really put this truck through its paces! I'm impressed with how well it handled your off-roading adventures, especially with the off-road package. The clearance and handling are great, and the power of the I5 Vortec engine is more than enough to tackle tough terrain with a full cab. Your average mileage of 18.5 is pretty good, and it's even better on straight highways at 22. City driving is also not bad at 17.5. I've read some reviews that criticize the interior for feeling cheap, but I think they're misunderstanding the molded plastic features that have a tight range of movement. In my opinion, they add to the fun and solid feel of the truck.

I bought my Canyon just 5 years ago and, apart from regular maintenance, I had to have the valves redone at 30,000 miles under warranty. After all these years of driving this truck, it still gets great gas mileage and has never left me stranded. I really like the I-5 engine with MP3 player, and it looks good as GM has always had nice designs. I am definitely getting the new model Canyon!

You bought this truck in January 2009 with just under 150,000 kms and it seems to have been dependable for the previous owner. You really like the ride, the design and the interior, which does not look or feel cheap at all. Although the controls are old school, you don't mind. However, you think that some better newer technology would be nice, such as a heated steering wheel (to go with the heated seats) and auto-up and down capabilities for the front windows from the driver's seat.

I have been driving 80 miles to work one way, but unfortunately, my truck has been out of commission for the past 3 weeks due to multiple issues. Despite having only 22000 miles on it, I have had to replace the valve seal, fuel injector twice, and finally the cylinder in the engine went bad all in 1 week. Although I appreciate the gas mileage, I am now considering trading it in for a more dependable vehicle that better suits my needs. Additionally, I have found that the back seat is not very roomy. I have owned the truck for 7 months and put 7k miles on it. While it is an okay truck, I believe it has room for improvement. The 5-speed transmission can be difficult to shift when cold, and the A/C seems to cycle too frequently, which can be problematic on hot days. Interestingly, my '93 S-10 2.8 V6 5-speed with over 200K miles gets the same mileage (an average of 26 mpg) but runs, brakes, and shifts better than this new one. However, I am confident that this base truck can still perform well on trips over 3 hours.

This truck is poorly designed and built, making it one of the cheapest vehicles on the market. It is regrettable that I did not examine it more closely before purchasing it. In the future, I will consider foreign models. The U.S. needs to improve its quality control to avoid such subpar products. The overall quality of this truck is unacceptable and does not justify the expense. It is imperative that manufacturers take responsibility for their products and ensure that they meet the highest standards of quality.

The first 12k miles were smooth sailing, but unfortunately, the head went twice within 200 miles. Currently, the truck has 23k miles on it and it seems to be falling apart. Although the truck has beautiful styling, it falls short on reliability and quality of fit & finish. The 4th gear grinds (which is a common issue) and parts are on back order for 2 weeks. Additionally, it locks out of reverse easily (which is also a common problem). If you're looking for a reliable truck, I would recommend a Tacoma. You'll be much happier with your purchase. Although my truck is only 2 years old and has 23k miles, it's worth only $9,200 as a trade-in. The resale value is low and I get 19-22 city and 29-32 highway.
