Common Dodge Grand caravan problems
The Dodge Grand Caravan, a popular vehicle for families and fleet operators, has faced numerous problems and recalls in recent years. One of the most significant issues is related to the transmission, with owners reporting harsh shifting and failures.
Brake problems are another prevalent issue, with premature wear and inadequate performance being reported. This not only compromises the vehicle's safety but also adds to the financial burden of owners. One owner mentioned that the brakes wear out faster than expected due to undersized components.
Electrical malfunctions are also a common problem, with malfunctioning power doors, erratic window behavior, and issues with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). For instance, one owner reported that their 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan has sliding doors that randomly shut on people, and a liftgate that has closed on their head. Such malfunctions pose significant safety risks and can result in expensive repairs.
Fuel system leaks have been a concern in some Vantage-modified 2016-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles, with recalls issued by the NHTSA due to deteriorating fuel pump gaskets. These leaks can pose a serious fire hazard, causing concern among owners.
Seat strikers may fail in crashes, compromising occupant safety during front and rear impact crashes. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued a recall due to weld failures on the outboard rear seat strikers and front outboard seat strikers in 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles.
Insufficient coating on rear brake caliper pistons in 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles can reduce rear brake performance, increasing the risk of accidents. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued a recall due to this defect.
The 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan has also faced consumer complaints, including a cracked torque converter in the transmission, which can cause slipping and issues with gear shifting. Dodge has been aware of this issue but has not issued a recall, instead manufacturing a repair kit to fix the fracture. If a vehicle did not receive these needed repairs, owners may face expensive repair bills.
The stock headlights on the Dodge Grand Caravan are noticeably dimmer than a standard vehicle headlight. Some consumers even complained that they were nearly useless. To remedy this, new, higher wattage bulbs will have to be put in the lights, and the regulator chip that was the cause of the recall needs to be replaced. Due to the faulty regulator chip, there are several electrical issues with the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. The power locks regularly fail, which can be inconvenient, but the bigger issue is that the electrical problems can cause stalling. Some consumers even reported that stalling has happened at highway speeds, which can be incredibly dangerous.
In summary, the Dodge Grand Caravan has faced numerous problems and recalls, particularly related to the transmission, brakes, electrical systems, and fuel system leaks. These issues can lead to costly repairs, safety hazards, and inconvenience for owners.

Vehicle year: 2020
The Dodge Grand Caravan is an excellent van for the money, offering plenty of features despite not having all the latest bells and whistles. It meets my needs perfectly with its smooth and quiet ride, comfortable seats, and ample room and versatility, especially with the Stow-N-Go rear seats. While some professional reviewers may pick on it, I can confidently say that the 2019 model is a significant improvement from the 2010 version. It has a different engine, brakes, dash, interior, grill, tailgate, and suspension components, and it also gets much better mileage. If you're in the market for a van, I highly recommend checking it out before it's gone. Unfortunately, 2020 marks the last year that they are making the Dodge Grand Caravan.

Overall, I'm really glad I made this purchase. I bought it new in 2015 for mortuary service and it's been great for fuel economy. I'm averaging 26 miles per gallon on the highway and can go up to 450 miles on a single trip before needing to fill up.

This is truly an amazing vehicle! I cannot praise it enough. We travel cross country from New Mexico to Michigan twice a year, pulling a pop-up camper, and we are extremely satisfied with the performance and comfort of our new van. If you are in the market for a new vehicle that can accommodate kids and your belongings, then look no further than this van. It is not your typical gas-guzzling SUV, and Dodge has done an excellent job upgrading every feature to make it a highly desirable vehicle for those seeking comfort and practicality.

Congratulations on your new Chrysler minivan! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the comfortable seats and well-placed controls in the interior. While the exterior may take some getting used to, it sounds like the suspension is just right for you. It's understandable that you miss the power sliders, but it's great that you were able to save some money with the Hero. We hope that you continue to enjoy your new van for many years to come!

Vehicle year: 2003
I purchased this van from a dealer in 2008 with 110K miles on it. It has now been 7 years and it has 240K miles on it, but I have not experienced any major issues. As a satellite contractor, I use this van for work purposes, carrying ladders, equipment, and driving on rough terrain. I have even driven it cross country several times, including a trip from OK to NY and back to OK, achieving 26mpg. I have also towed a trailer when moving from AZ to NY and back to AZ. This van was particularly impressive during the past winter, handling snow with ease. It is worth noting that the 03 sport model is the only one without traction control. I have even hauled heavy appliances and gravel in it.

I currently have 87000 mi. Unfortunately, I have had to replace my transmission and blew the head gasket, which cost me over $4000 in repairs. Although the van has been practical, it is starting to fall apart with all the rattles in and out of the vehicle. It is not the most comfortable car for long trips, but it has served me well for shorter journeys. I have noticed that loose bags of stuff tend to roll around in the back, unlike other makes that have a well for the seat to prevent this. Perhaps it would be worth considering Toyota or Honda for my next vehicle.

Vehicle year: 2011
We purchased our 2011 van in 2015 with 80,000 miles on it. It was previously used by the dealership to shuttle customers and for general use. Currently, our van has over 100,000 miles and we have had some issues with it. However, we have found that regular maintenance and care have helped to keep it running smoothly. We recommend researching the TPMI issues that have been reported with Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles and considering a model that has already qualified for the TPMI recall. We hope this information is helpful!

Vehicle year: 2009
The 4.0 engine performs great and makes this van the perfect choice for family travel. However, there are some issues that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, the brake rotors started going bad at 15,000 miles and Dodge would not honor the warranty, asking for $100 to fix their problem. Additionally, the Bridgestone tires on the van are not very durable, wearing out at just 20,000 miles. The air conditioner fan motor may also go out after a while, but it can be fixed by stopping the van and restarting it after a short while. Lastly, the radio stopped working in the first year. Overall, this is a good vehicle that could be improved with some minor changes. Dodge should take responsibility for their mistakes and step up to cover them.

Vehicle year: 1999
I bought the van because I liked the looks, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. After speaking with other owners of the same van, it seems that they have all experienced similar issues. Here is a list of the problems I have encountered: 1. Three sensors have gone out, each costing $125 to replace. When the sensor goes out, the car will not shift gears. 2. The driver's side brake caliper has been replaced twice, but still doesn't work properly. 3. Despite having the transmission serviced every 35,000 miles, I had to replace it before the van hit 100,000 miles, which cost me $2,000. On top of everything else, these vans have poor resale values, making it difficult to sell.

Vehicle year: 2012
I regret purchasing a Dodge van due to the numerous recalls and constant repairs. The left bank 2 cylinder head recall left me without my vehicle for 5 days, and the rear quarter vent window switch recall took a long time to get inventory to the dealer. The brakes needed replacement multiple times, and there were issues with cold air blowing out of the vents when set to heat. The radio also shut off on its own and cleared all settings. Despite getting new tires, the van still struggled with minor inclines in local city driving. Overall, my experience with this Dodge van has been disappointing and I will not be purchasing another one.
