Common Dodge Grand caravan problems
The Dodge Grand Caravan, a popular vehicle for families and fleet operators, has faced numerous problems and recalls in recent years. One of the most significant issues is related to the transmission, with owners reporting harsh shifting and failures.
Brake problems are another prevalent issue, with premature wear and inadequate performance being reported. This not only compromises the vehicle's safety but also adds to the financial burden of owners. One owner mentioned that the brakes wear out faster than expected due to undersized components.
Electrical malfunctions are also a common problem, with malfunctioning power doors, erratic window behavior, and issues with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). For instance, one owner reported that their 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan has sliding doors that randomly shut on people, and a liftgate that has closed on their head. Such malfunctions pose significant safety risks and can result in expensive repairs.
Fuel system leaks have been a concern in some Vantage-modified 2016-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles, with recalls issued by the NHTSA due to deteriorating fuel pump gaskets. These leaks can pose a serious fire hazard, causing concern among owners.
Seat strikers may fail in crashes, compromising occupant safety during front and rear impact crashes. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued a recall due to weld failures on the outboard rear seat strikers and front outboard seat strikers in 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles.
Insufficient coating on rear brake caliper pistons in 2018-2019 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles can reduce rear brake performance, increasing the risk of accidents. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) issued a recall due to this defect.
The 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan has also faced consumer complaints, including a cracked torque converter in the transmission, which can cause slipping and issues with gear shifting. Dodge has been aware of this issue but has not issued a recall, instead manufacturing a repair kit to fix the fracture. If a vehicle did not receive these needed repairs, owners may face expensive repair bills.
The stock headlights on the Dodge Grand Caravan are noticeably dimmer than a standard vehicle headlight. Some consumers even complained that they were nearly useless. To remedy this, new, higher wattage bulbs will have to be put in the lights, and the regulator chip that was the cause of the recall needs to be replaced. Due to the faulty regulator chip, there are several electrical issues with the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. The power locks regularly fail, which can be inconvenient, but the bigger issue is that the electrical problems can cause stalling. Some consumers even reported that stalling has happened at highway speeds, which can be incredibly dangerous.
In summary, the Dodge Grand Caravan has faced numerous problems and recalls, particularly related to the transmission, brakes, electrical systems, and fuel system leaks. These issues can lead to costly repairs, safety hazards, and inconvenience for owners.

I think you'll love the Grand Caravan GT! It's got all the features you need, like a performance suspension, blacked out lights, black sporty rims, and a 9 speaker stereo system with navigation and Bluetooth. Plus, the all black leather interior is really sleek. And the best part? It's fully loaded and still 10-15 grand less than the Pacifica with similar options. Plus, it doesn't have that typical soccer mom look. Just keep in mind that 2018-2020 Grand Caravan GT's are sold as fleet vehicles in the USA, so you'll have to buy pre-owned.

Our van has been a great investment! With 3,500 miles on it, it has exceeded our expectations. We were able to take a 2000 mile trip shortly after buying it (only 500 break-in miles) and saw an impressive 28mpg on the interstate. Even around town (suburban driving), we can get 20mpg if we watch what we're doing. The seats are very comfortable and the ride is smooth. We love the flexibility of the stow n go, it always amazes us. For a very reasonable mid-20s price, it's a lot of car that can do a lot of things (like haul 2 new exterior doors from Home Depot) without any fuss. Once you have had that capability at your disposal, it would be hard to give it up.

The car was purchased by the second owner in 2011 with 60,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, it has now passed away with 208,654 miles on the clock. It's important to keep up with regular brake servicing, as it is crucial for the car's maintenance. There are no other options.

The GT is definitely the way to go! It has all the bells and whistles you could want at an affordable price. I absolutely love the heated seats and steering wheel, and the entertainment system is fantastic. Plus, the onboard GPS is a great feature. The only downside is that the fuel economy isn't the best, as we average around 19mpg.

For a long time, I had a whistling noise at high speeds. It took me a while to figure out what it was, but I finally did. Other than that, I really enjoy this vehicle. In fact, I like it more than any other vehicle I've owned.

As a previous owner of a 2008 SE Grand Caravan, I had high expectations for my 'upgrade' to the 2015 SXT. I drove my 2008 for 192,000 miles and used every feature it had, so I was excited to try out the new model. However, after only 2 days of ownership, I am feeling disappointed with Dodge. One of the first things I noticed was that the SXT has a smaller engine than my previous model. While I didn't expect to notice such a small difference, it has had a significant impact on acceleration, which is important for me as I live near a major highway. The new FuelEcon feature is supposed to optimize fuel efficiency, but I am torn on using it as it affects acceleration. Despite this, the 2015 model does drive smoothly and the seats are more comfortable than my '08. However, I was disappointed to find that there is no 'Info' button to see who is singing and no Bluetooth or UConnect. These were two features that I used frequently on my SE. Overall, I am feeling let down by the 2015 SXT and miss the features of my previous model. They rearranged the dash, which looks a lot sharper. However, the steering wheel now blocks my speedometer, making it difficult to see how fast I am going. On the bright side, I discovered that I can now display my speed digitally, which is nice. My son was surprised to find that there is no 110V plug to charge his laptop. We use the plug for so many things, like charging his laptop, running my oil diffuser, and charging phones. This feature can be added by purchasing an adapter, but we will lose a car charger port in the process. Unfortunately, the 2015 SXT lacks a compass, garage door opener, overhead storage, and fog lights, all of which my 2008 SE had. The new van has both 3rd row vented windows on one switch, so you can't choose to open one or the other, it is both or nothing. Another thing that I will miss is the overhead lighting system. The 2008 had a nice lighting system with each seat having its own reading light, and there was also a nice glowing light I could turn on and still see my kiddos but not impair my outside visibility at night. I have noticed a slight decrease in cabin noise from my '08, but it is still considerably noisy. The 2008 had vibration noise with the overhead bins, but by not having them, I have lost some of that noise. I was thoroughly disappointed that there is no USB in this vehicle. There was one available at the next trim level, but for a 2015 vehicle that is designed to carry many passengers, this was a shocker. Overall, if this one performs as well and for as long as my last one, I will ultimately be happy with it. However, I just can't believe that Dodge took away so many features that were available 8 years ago on the lower, SE model. One feature that I do absolutely love is the new, taller console. Before, I had to reach down to the floor to get to the car charger. This new, taller center console makes things so much more convenient!

I recently purchased a new van and unfortunately experienced some issues with the brakes. At 14K miles, I had to replace the rear caliper, pads, rotors, and adaptors. At 20K miles, I had to replace the front pads and rotors. However, at 26K miles, I was informed that I needed to replace the front pads, rotors, calipers, and hoses, which would cost me $600. The same repairs were also needed for the rear brakes, which would cost me $675. This would add up to almost $1300 more after the previous brake jobs. I contacted the Dodge Corp Complaint office, but they informed me that this was normal wear and tear. I had a 2003 caravan before, and the brakes lasted over 40K miles. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to spend $1300 per year on new brakes. After searching for 2011 Caravan brake problems on the internet, I found many complaints, but no help from Dodge. Having to complete two brake jobs in less than 27K miles is not normal. Therefore, I have decided to trade in my van and will not be purchasing any more Caravans.

I have installed two transmissions into this van. Unfortunately, these transmissions have a design flaw that can cause an internal pin to break free, which can then damage the housing and make it impossible to rebuild. However, Chrysler is aware of this issue and offers a repair kit that can prevent this from happening during a rebuild. I only found out about this after installing the third transmission, but since then, the van has been running smoothly. In fact, I gave it to my father-in-law to drive over a year ago and it's still going strong. I recently purchased a 96 model for my wife, but unfortunately, the transmission also had the same issue. While it can be frustrating, it's important to note that Chrysler now offers a lifetime warranty on drivetrain for their new cars.

My wife and I have had a mixed experience with this van. We absolutely love the design and layout, and opted for the SXT 3.8L with every option except leather. However, we have unfortunately encountered several problems with our vehicle. We purchased it as a certified used with only 22,000 miles on it, but if we had known then what we know now about these vans, we would have continued our search. After reading other reports and through our own experience, it seems that the 2005 model is one of the worst. If possible, it may be best to avoid this year. As for me, I have decided that this will be my last Dodge. Thank you for taking the time to read my experience.

I see that you bought the car with 110k and now it has 210k. The reliability is okay, but it seems like there are some issues with the interior screws falling out and panels rattling. The suspension is too soft and you've gone through 3 sets of struts. The heating system cuts out and sticks, but it's good to know that the A/C still works well even though it has never been charged. The motor runs just as good as it did at 110k, but it's concerning that it now leaks a lot of oil from the main seals, even though they were changed at 95k. The CV Joints are going out for the first time. Despite all of this, it's impressive that the car still gets an average of 18mpg and has the original water pump, alternator, and starter. You've only had to replace the starter contacts once.
