- Summary: My complaint involves more than one incident...it is the braking system on this vehicle. One incident was in Panama City Beach, Florida. My entire braking system locked up and I had numerous items replaced. Another more recent incident happened in Alabama. My left front brake heated up to the point it smelled like the vehicle was on fire. I have had several calipers and rotors replaced, numerous brake pads and not all of these repairs has been done by the same garage. I read complaints from others about the manufacturers brake system is too small for this style vehicle. They have experienced the same problems I have had. I bought this vehicle in 2015 and I have 155,000 miles on it. I have had to replace a water pump and spark plugs and wires, regular oil changes, etc. The only real problem I have had has been the brakes. I have spent almost $3,500 on brakes alone. I would think the braking system could be a very hazardous situation in the traffic of today. HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED DODGE I WAS TOLD THAT MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CURRENT RECALL. I CONTACTED THE SHOP ABOUT IT AND THEY REFUSED TO WORK WITH ME. AFTER TAKING MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ALIGNMENT APPEARED TO NOT HAVE BEEN DONE AND THAT THE SPECS WAS OFF THE CHARTS. THE MECHANIC CONTACTED THE SHOP THAT MADE THE INITIAL REPAIRS AND THEY DENIED NOT COMPLETING AN ALIGNMENT. I'VE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER 11 YEARS AND MY TIRES HAVE NEVER WORN THIS FAST AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN UNTIL THIS REPAIR SHOP DID THE SUSPENSION WORK ON MY VEHICLE. THE SHOP NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR UNSAFE MAINTENANCE PRACTICES. THEIR MAINTENANCE AND LACK OF SAFETY STANDARDS PUT THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY IN JEOPARDY, AND THEY'RE STILL IN DENIAL OF ANY WRONG DOING NOR ARE THEY WILLING TO PROVIDE ME SPECS OF THE ALIGNMENT THEY SAID THEY DID. I have a personal history with MoPar station wagons from the 50s and 60s, and I was thrilled to purchase one of the very first Grand Voyagers in 1987. I put over 100k miles on both that one and a 1991 model, and while I did have some transmission work done under warranty, I loved them both. In July 2015, I purchased a well-kept 2006 EXT with 110k miles on it, after putting 250k on a Chevy Venture. I'm now approaching 150k miles on the MoPar, and while I've had a few minor issues, they were all easy and inexpensive to fix. For example, both sliding door locks failed within a week of each other, but I was able to replace them myself for just $35 each by watching YouTube videos. The rear lift gate struts were weak when cold, but they were also cheap to replace and easy to install. The front sway bar bushings are worn out, but I have some $15 Moogs that I'll install someday. The power steering pump can get noisy after running at speed for more than 15 minutes, but it hasn't failed yet. The a/c compressor is also getting noisy, but I'll have it replaced when it finally fails. Overall, I don't think these issues are abnormal for a US-built minivan, and I know the tradeoffs since all my other vehicles are Toyotas. In fact, I believe the underlying design and performance of the MoPar minivans is as good or better than Honda's and Toyota's versions, and of course, these MoPars depreciate much faster, making them much cheaper to buy used. As an educated consumer who helped a used car dealer evaluate and buy hundreds of cars at wholesale after retiring from practicing law, I can attest that the reputation of MoPar minivans among used car dealer professionals isn't bad, though they do build some bad ones. I treat mine as my covered pickup truck and jack of all trades and likely will run it another 100k. A friend who does not keep her cars very well has one of these with 260k on its original powertrain and counting. Oddly enough, given all the hooha over these trannies, most all of the dozens and dozens I drove in my used car days were like butter. Honda's minivan trannies were viewed as worrisome by the wholesale buyers once over about 120k, for what it's worth. As of June 2019, I'm now at 175k miles.I recently had to replace the alternator as it was making a lot of noise. I also changed the radiator myself. Unfortunately, the dipstick broke, but I was able to replace it. I've been experiencing some clunking in the front suspension, so I changed the front struts, sway bar links, and sway bar bushings, but the issue still persists. I took my van to a shop for a full transmission flush/service/BG, and they also fixed the wiring to the left front SRS impact system that had thrown the SRS code. I'm proud to say that I was able to change all the plugs, plug wires, and coil packs, which cleared a misfire code. Occasionally, I get a self-clearing “less than peak efficiency” code that illuminates under light loads, but I run Walmart High-Mileage 10W-30 full synthetic oil and Fram ToughGard 16 filters changed at the factory 6k, and add LiquiMoly molybdenum additive at each change. About every 4th change, I also add their Ceratec ceramic additive to reduce internal wear, etc. I'm confident that my van will last another 100k, easy. As of 12/19, my van now lives in Chicago, where I spend half my time helping care for my granddaughter. I recently discovered that the suspension clunking was caused by just the upper strut retaining nuts. I decided to replace the catalytic converter to get rid of the recurring CHECK ENGINE codes, since I plan to run this van until it drops. I also added an aftermarket remote start system for VA summers, and it sure is nice. The power-steering pump is generally quiet now. I'm taking care of the first signs of rocker-panel and tailgate rust, as I've seen a lot of Mopar vans with serious body rot. It's great to have a versatile, reliable carryall that is done depreciating. As of 6/2020, my van has 186.1k miles. Unfortunately, COVID complications caused me to terminate my van's ChiTown life when I vacated my apartment there on 4/30/20 and headed home to Williamsburg VA full-time.My wife followed me in the van as I drove the moving truck. The power steering pump no longer protests long, hard runs; I believe the refills with Lucas over time had a cumulative favorable effect. The General Altimax 43 tires are wearing well, ride smoothly and provide very secure handling in heavy rain. The replacement cat converter mentioned above wasn’t hung properly and vibrates against the rear underbody at certain rpms and especially when the van is nose-high. I need to get it back over there now that it’s home. Other than that maintenance issue, Zorba the Van is running smoothly. I would drive it anywhere, any time. It’s one of the “good ones.” In December 2020, Zorba had 194k miles and was still going strong. I just had some Gabriel Hijackers installed so I can carry a heavy Thule hitch rack for two heavy e-bikes. Raising the rear about 3” also keeps the rear muffler from vibrating against the rear underbody. In a couple of weeks, Zorba will get towed behind our RV for 3-4 months in St. Pete. The next oil change will be at 200k miles. In June 2022, Zorba the Van rolled 200k on 3/31/21 and now has 228.5k. I paid $550 to have the front pads and rotors changed in St. Petersburg rather than doing it myself because they did it in under an hour and it would have taken me a day or two. As I approach my 75th birthday, I’m losing my appetite for labor-intensive tasks. But Zorba soldiers on! In one 7-day period (3 driving days) I drove him 2,560 miles, getting about 21 mpg cruising with the traffic at 75-80. Last week we did an 800-mile round trip from VA to SC and back. Outside temps ran 100-102 but the temp gauge rode right on its usual mark. The power steering pump was noisy at fuel stops so I need to get a turkey baster and do a suck-out-and-replace drill to freshen the Lucas ps fluid in the tank. In normal temps it’s quiet even at speed. I’ve enjoyed renting Pacificas on trips and have logged about 2k in them. But Zorba has appreciated a bit and fits us like a glove. And I’d drive it coast to coast without a concern.12/2022 update: 237k and going strong! It's great to hear that Zorba is still running well. Although there are a few minor issues, such as the exhaust system buzzing against the body and occasional cat codes under light loads, which can be easily cleared after checking. It seems like Zorba needs an alignment and a set of tires soon. The only new issue is that the front blower fan sometimes fails to wake up on engine start, but eventually it does. I changed a relay, but unfortunately, that didn't help. It's possible that the motor is tired.

The seats are positioned to easily view the road. They sit upright, which helps me stay alert and focused. I love how easy it is to enter and exit this vehicle, it's my favorite thing about owning these vans. Even though my kids are all grown up, I still appreciate its versatility. I can haul almost anything, either inside or on top. I enjoy going on road trips, just like I did in college, but now with an air mattress in the back. It has towed my tent trailer for camping, as well as my utility trailer for neighborhood garbage runs and home improvement projects. I love picking up friends for church activities, taking neighbors to senior events or grocery shopping. These vans were made for me to share!

We upgraded from our 2002 Grand Caravan to the 2006 Grand Caravan and we couldn't be happier. While we loved our '02, the Stow n Go seating in this van is a game-changer. The seats are incredibly easy to use and we find ourselves using them every day. It only takes a minute to fold all the seats down, which is so convenient. We've taken the van on three trips from NJ to Florida and South Carolina and it's been a very comfortable ride. The storage wells for the middle row seats are perfect for storing snacks and other items, and there's plenty of room in the van overall. It feels like riding in a Cadillac on the highway and the visibility is great. Overall, we're very pleased with this van and highly recommend it.

I have 435,000 miles on my beloved van and I'm aiming for 600,000! While I haven't had any issues with the transmission or motor, the electronics have been a bit of a challenge. Unfortunately, I have no interior lights and the sliders stopped working three years ago. I've had to cut wires in the mechanism that moves the doors back and forth, and I've had to replace the window lift motors multiple times. The back wiper motor also went out four years ago. Despite all of this, I absolutely adore my van and use it for work every day. I don't let anyone else drive it! I would definitely purchase another one if they were available.

It seems like there have been some issues with this Dodge van. After 55k miles, the transmission completely went out, which was a $3k repair. The dealership would have charged $5k. Additionally, with less than 85k miles, there have been several other repairs needed, including the front left CV joint, alternator, front passenger window regulator, passenger sliding door lock actuator, rear hatch lift gate assembly motor/arm, shocks, oil pan seal, and more. It's been a frustrating experience. I'm not sure if I would buy a Dodge van again.

I purchased this van brand new in 2005 and it has been an excellent hauler for both my grandkids and large items. Over the course of 80,000 miles, I have replaced the front brakes three times and the rear brakes twice. The original tires lasted for 28,000 miles, while the Cooper GS4 tires have lasted for 52,000 miles. Unfortunately, in the past year, the sliding doors have begun to rust on the bottom and the rear fender wells have also started to rust. Additionally, the 3.8 motor has been using a quart of oil every 1,500 miles since 47,000 miles and I have had to replace the turn signal switch twice. Most recently, the driver's side spring broke, which was a very dangerous situation. Due to the rust, I am unsure if it is worth repairing. Out of the four vans I have owned, this has been the worst. As of 12/15/2016, I am still driving a Toyota and I would not consider purchasing another Chrysler, even if it was given to me. However, I do plan on purchasing another Toyota in the future when this one wears out.

We purchased the car in 2009 and unfortunately experienced some rusting around the wheel wells about a year later. Although it was still under warranty, the issue persisted even after repairs were made. We have been in contact with the dealership and Chrysler to resolve the issue, but it has been a bit of a process. The only other minor issue we have experienced is some sticking with the driver side passenger door. Overall, the car has been mechanically reliable. However, due to the rust issue, we have decided to explore other options. We appreciate your understanding and hope to find a resolution soon.

On our way back home from an out-of-town gathering, we stopped about 50 miles away from home to grab some refreshments. Unfortunately, when we got back in the car, the headlights failed to work. We managed to find a motel for the night using only the flashers. The next day, we returned home and reached out to the dealership for help, but unfortunately, they were unable to assist us. It's disappointing to have experienced this issue with the vehicle and the lack of support from the dealership, especially considering that the vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it.

I purchased this vehicle with 36,000 miles and have since put 8,000 more on it. Unfortunately, both automatic doors stopped working about a week apart, the lift gate won't stay open, and the power driver seat has stopped functioning. Additionally, I have noticed that the brakes are undersized for the weight of the vehicle and require replacement. While I experience a slight shudder and whine when turning, I do appreciate the convenience of the stow n go seats, although they can be a bit of a chore to stow. Unfortunately, the value of the vehicle has decreased significantly, making it difficult to trade in. Despite these issues, I remain hopeful that I can find a solution and continue to enjoy my vehicle.
