SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-08
- VIN: 2C4RDGBG3ER
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: While driving in the parking lot of my kids school to drop them off in the morning, I heard a loud noise and felt something hit me in the back of my head with some force. It was not painful, but was actually very uncomfortable. I stopped in the parking lot to see what it was. I noticed that my driver side headrest was out of place (the fabric portion was popped forward) away from the plastic backing. I could see the the springs inside the headrest. My husband used a zip tie to pull the headrest back together. My vehicle was not in any accidents to cause this to happen. I did not take it to a dealer to inspect, as it just occurred. There were no warning signs/lights. It was very unexpected and abrupt. No one was injured, but my head was actually uncomfortable and I very glad that I did not have my son driving at the time, as he could have been injured due to the spring loaded force.

This has not been investigated yet, as it happened over the weekend but I will be reporting to the manufacturer as soon as they're open as well.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-19
- Fire: 1
- VIN: 2C4RDGCG8ER
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Vehicle started on fire while parked. It was a total loss. The auto shop reported that the fire started due to faulty wiring under the driver side seat. Specifically, related to the harness wiring. Thankfully this didn't start while I was driving. I have seen other reports on this website for similar fires on the Dodge Grand Caravan AND an actual recall for the Crysler Town and Country for similar fires related to faulty wiring. That vehicle is almost identical to the dodge grand caravan. Something need to be done before a loss of life incident...I reached out to Dodge to notify them, and an investigator sent me a same day email that Dodge is not responsible. I only had 65,000 miles on this 2014 DGC and took great care of it.
SEATS PROBLEM

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-01
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 2C7WDGEG7ER
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: On 7/1/2023 my vehicle began to malfunction while driving - power was flickering with EMC drive error flashing. When this happened, I was at a complete stop in traffic, so I put it in park, then restarted. Everything seemed to be fine, but I was cautious. The same thing happened again, so I pulled into a parking lot and went inside a store for a few minutes. I got back in the car, started the vehicle, then before pulling out into traffic, the center console reported a flashing error again, so I put it in park and restarted again, put my hazard lights on, then pulled away. I was consciously trying to stay a few car lengths behind vehicles ahead because I was nervous about what was going on and just wanted to keep away from other vehicles. I made it to an intersection where there was a red light with 2 cars ahead of me. I began braking and decelerated to around 5 MPH and within 30 feet of the vehicle in front of me when the vehicle lost power to the brake. I don’t recall if the steering also went out. I hit the bumper of the car in front of me, and her car was pushed into the car in front of her. Fortunately, I did not sustain any injuries. My airbags did not go off. My confidence in this equipment is seriously affected. How will I know this will not happen again? I could have died or taken the lives of other people. I requested that the company MobilityWorks not make any repairs to the vehicle until they explain the origin of the problem. Instead they replaced parts and stated they could not replicate the problem--it took them 6+ months to return the vehicle to me & the headlights do not even work. They refuse to inform me of what the malfunction was but cite neglected vehicle maintenance. I can document consistent vehicle maintenance. I refuse to drive this vehicle as it is clearly compromised. They aren't being transparent and should be required by law to notify disabled individuals including veterans of this risk. These modified vehicles are death traps!
SEATS PROBLEM

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-08
- VIN: 2C4RDGBG5ER
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Symptoms and Unknown: There are numerous reports of the oil filter housing that is prone to cracking which causes the engines in 3.6 Pentastar V6 engines to leak oil. This engine issue affects the 2011 and newer Grand Caravans with the said engine. My sister has had to replace this part twice now (Every other year - She replaced the last one two years ago) in her Grand Caravan SE. The symptoms which leads us to know that this is the problem is the vehicle develops a really bad oil leak and the oil level ends up being a quart low. The same symptoms happened when the first part was replaced prior to the part that needs to be replaced now. My sister was informed that the part she put in last time is not a definite fix as the said part could malfunction and crack again. This is a defect of the design of this engine that needs to be recalled and replaced with the new part free of charge that is also an updated part that is different than older parts that will not break. This is a SAFETY HAZARD as my sister has two small children and they could wind up on the road or interstate broken down. RECALL or TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) is needed from Chrysler.

- VIN: 2C4RDGCG0ER
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: While driving with my three daughters in the car, the driver side headrest activated and hit me in the back of the head. This was random and no warning was given. As a result the headrest deployed and it cannot be fixed/put back. I currently have a strong headache and am still feeling a little dizzy after the incident.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-05-04

- Summary: Driving down highway. Rear spoiler flew off.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-01
- VIN: 2C4RDGCG1ER
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Like the other hundreds of thousands 3.6 Litre V6 engines with the notorious oil filter housing/oil cooler oil leak, mine just started at 120,000 miles. I'm the only person to ever change the engine oil and oil filter in this vehicle. I have always torqued the oil filter to spec (18 ft. lbs). There should be a recall on this faulty part.
SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-24
- VIN: 2C4RDGCG9ER
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: My family and I were on a hike in the mountains, and when we got back to our car, the drivers headrest had popped out of itself. We tried to see if we could fix it, but it busted out with such force that it broke parts. When I looked this up, it appears that this is a pretty common occurrence with our make and model, and others have actually had it happen when they are in the seat and been injured! Thank God we weren’t driving through the mountains when it happened! This is a serious issue and I couldn’t believe that nothing had been done to create a recall, especially after finding a report about the same issue with the same vehicle online from October 2019 (almost FOUR years ago) by [XXX] , stating that the government was researching this issue after several people were injured. Apparently this is a safety feature that is built to prevent whiplash in an accident, but is activating without provocation in many vehicles, if it’s not offsetting whiplash, could this not CAUSE whiplash?! This needs to be addressed as a recall and fixed for others before it causes a serious car accident (if it hasn’t already) or kills someone. This is completely unacceptable. ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-11
- VIN: 2C4RDGEG5ER
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Ignition module failed, causing van to stall while driving. The stall forced the vehicle to lose power steering and it had to coast over to the shoulder to get out of traffic, this could’ve resulted in a crash or blocking traffic. This happened twice, once during a very hot day. The van was able to restart after about 30 minutes and finished the short distance to the destination. The second time was at night when temps had cooled 20 degrees and it stalled at approximately the same distance it had traveled the first time. That time it was not able to be restarted and had to be towed to a repair shop, where they tested and replaced the ignition module. No warning lights or indicators went off either time prior to the engine stall. The check engine light did not come on until the second time when it would not start again.

- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: EQUIPMENT
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
- Consequence: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Chrysler's number for this recall is T82.

Due to a software error, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
- Consequence: If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Chrysler has notified owners, and dealers will reprogram the TPMS module, free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P63.

My 2014 car failed to start after 38000 miles. The check engine warning light remained on and the car did not even turn. I am confident that the issue can be resolved with a professional diagnosis and repair.

I have test driven both the Odessey and Sienna, but I must say that the Grand Caravan compares favorably to the high priced Honda and Toyota models in all categories. Not only does it have better gas mileage and acceleration than either of these two, but it is also very quiet at highway speeds and the ride is limo quality. Additionally, reliability has been a strong point, with only routine maintenance needed over the past 2 years. The Dodge dealer has taken care of all maintenance work along with complementary oil changes, which is a service that is hard to match at one of the Japanese dealers. Overall, I highly recommend the Grand Caravan for anyone in the market for a reliable and high-quality vehicle.
-
Great vehicle! It has plenty of room and is very reliable.
-
I really love the minivan! It's such a practical choice.

Hi there! Our minivan has been a reliable companion for us, with just over 116,000 miles on it. We've only had to replace the battery, tires, and transmission cooler lines, and today we needed to recharge the A/C for the first time. It handles great in freeway traffic and has plenty of zip. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy on certain pavements, but that might just be the tires. We typically get around 28 mpg on trips, but less than 20 mpg at home. As a 5'10

We purchased this minivan after a long trip from California to Florida in our Dodge Journey with our two kids. After doing my research, we decided to get a Grand Caravan since our Journey had been a great car up to that point. We bought it used in March of 2019 with 51,000 miles on it. We opted for the SE 30th anniversary model which came with a backup camera, DVD entertainment system, and Uconnect XM radio. Since then, we have put 20,000 miles on it, taking trips and driving around town with the kids. Overall, it has been a great experience, and I'm happy we got the extended warranty. The van is very easy to drive and gets great gas mileage for its size. The DVD system has been a lifesaver for keeping the kids entertained, and the stow and go feature is wonderful. It handles snow really well and looks sharp with its navy blue paint and dark grey wheels. It has tons of pickup and has no problem passing on the interstate, even when packed down with people, dogs, and luggage. It is easy to get in and out of, and it has a comfortable ride. However, we have had some issues with reliability. Unfortunately, we had to deal with a faulty oil cooler right after we bought it, which caused a lot of trouble. Luckily, the warranty covered it, or it would have been a costly repair. At 70,000 miles, we noticed a hard shift in the transmission and a whiny noise upon acceleration. We took it to the dealer, and it needed a full transmission replacement. We were disappointed, but we were grateful that the warranty covered it. The other major issue we have had is with the cheap plastic parts on the van. The rubber piece on the end of the gear shift broke off, and the molding around the driver window flew off on the interstate. Despite these issues, we still love the van, and it has been a decent car for us. However, we are counting down the days until we can trade it in for a Sienna. Unfortunately, the Dodge has no resale value, so we are trying to pay it down first.

I bought the van because of its flexibility and usefulness, but unfortunately, I was disappointed soon after purchasing it. It was my second consecutive new Dodge purchase, but it will be my last. On two occasions, the six-speed transmission almost caused a very serious accident. After pulling out from a dead stop, the transmission suddenly upshifted from first to fourth or fifth gear immediately, causing the vehicle to shudder and take several seconds to downshift to a more appropriate gear. Although I normally would have had plenty of room, this experience was quite alarming. I contacted two dealerships, but they informed me that there were no issues with the transmission, even after the first corrective update. I hope that this issue can be resolved soon, as this vehicle has the potential to be dangerous.

You've put over 147,000 miles on it, and now it has 247,000+. You've always used Penzoil high mileage oil, and it has been good to you. Like all the others, the van has transmission issues, but you haven't replaced it yet. The 3.6 Pentastar motor is a good one. The motorized slider doors wear out with constant use, and the back hatch motor has been replaced three times. Two were automatic, and the last one is manual and works great. Unfortunately, the plastic headlights are foggy, and you have to replace the whole thing. The A/C no longer works, and there are lots of problems with the evaporator in the rear with cooling that does not work. You need to replace the cabin filter a lot. Despite the expensive repairs, you still love your van.

I initially enjoyed my minivan, but after only 3 years of ownership, I have encountered several issues. The automatic sliding doors require frequent repairs due to the plastic piece on the track deteriorating, and the plastic pieces around my stereo on the dashboard had to be reattached with super glue.

Hello! As someone who has owned 4 Caravans since 1985, I was excited to upgrade to the 2014 'Grand Caravan.' However, I was disappointed to find out that Dodge only offers a base seat in all models except for the SXT, which unfortunately has no height adjustment. This is especially frustrating for taller drivers like myself who need more legroom. I've seen similar complaints from other consumers as well. While it is possible to get a power seat with better adjustments, it comes at a steep price and is only available in the SXT model. I reached out to the Dodge Customer Assistance Center, but unfortunately, they only work through consumer forums. Thank you for listening to my feedback!
