Common 2015 Dodge Grand caravan problems

The Dodge Grand Caravan, a dependable minivan, has its fair share of problems, with shifting issues, a faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), and engine troubles being the most commonly reported.

Shifting issues are prevalent in the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, with owners reporting problems when going uphill at low speeds and the transmission shifting to a higher gear. The minivan may downshift after pressing the gas pedal and then shift up when easing off the gas, making it difficult to maintain a constant speed. If your Grand Caravan has shifting issues, it may also shudder and stall on the last downshift while slowing to a stop, with occasional upshifts being harsh.

The 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan has problems with the TIPM, which controls various electrical functions in the vehicle. Some units from this model year have issues with the TIPM causing the minivan to have difficulty starting, windows and doors opening randomly, and the vehicle cranking but not starting. Although the automaker is aware of the problem, there has been no recall to fix it.

Engine troubles have been reported in the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, with owners experiencing abrupt engine stalling while driving, accompanied by the traction control light displaying. Some owners have also reported engine misfires, starter issues, excessive oil consumption, and the check engine light turning on.

In addition to these specific issues, the Dodge Grand Caravan has been rated as having the worst problem category being electrical problems, with the 2011 model year being the worst due to other possible factors such as higher repair cost or more problems at lower mileage.

In summary, while the Dodge Grand Caravan is a dependable minivan, it has its fair share of problems, particularly with shifting, the TIPM, and the engine. It is essential to be aware of these issues and consider them when purchasing or maintaining a Dodge Grand Caravan.

I bought it new in 2015. I took it to Hubbell's Auto Repair again and they said the right rear brakes had a piston blown out of the caliper and no pad left on one side. They replaced the rear calipers with non-Mopar (aftermarket) calipers, replaced the rotors and pads. That cost $863.23. I parked it after an evening of m working; Once parked the vehicle will shift through all gears but only Park is engaged and stays engaged even while shifting to R, N, D it only stays parked. This is a safety issue as I can not even get it in neutral to tow and get it looked at or anything. I was not expecting it to not engage ever again so my vehicle is on an angle parked and I cannot gear shit it to N to get it moved and out of the road. Also the sway bar seems to be faulty as well. I think that’s suspension but it rocks back and forth really badly actually while taking on bumps or cracks it’s caused concerns enough that I stopped having my 3 children in it now while driving until an investigation is completed.

Hydraulic lifters in all years of the dodge caravan causes major issues please have them fix this and they should have to do a recall on these and fix the lifters because they definitely are doing it on these vans. UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-02-18
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 2C4RDGCG2FR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I am a paraplegic. I drive an adapted van with hand controls that include a Sure-Grip A600 spinner knob. This is equipment purchased from and installed by my mobility vehicle dealer, and is intended to allow operating the steering wheel with one hand so that the other can operate the throttle and brake, as well as other controls. Today while driving and making a hard turn, the plastic knob pulled off the shaft of the mount, causing me to lose control of the van and have a serious accident. This appears to be a clear case of defective product design as the plastic knob was merely pressed onto the shaft. The shaft and mount for it did not shift or move, but the knob pulled off. There were no features on the shaft to aid in retaining the knob beyond a friction fit.

Negative 2015 Dodge Grand caravan car reviews

  1. Barney Prohaska 2024-08-23

I purchased my Dodge Grand Caravan in 2017 and have owned it for almost 3 years now. It is a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. Unfortunately, the check engine light has been a recurring issue, coming on every 6 months or so. It has been quite frustrating. As a result, I have decided that I will not be purchasing another Chrysler product in the future. Thank you for reading my honest review.

  2. Jaron Wisoky 2024-08-11

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with a vehicle I recently purchased. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to test drive it before buying, and it ended up not having some of the driver aids and climate control features that I was hoping for. As a result, I didn't feel very safe driving it. I ended up trading it in for a Toyota Sienna in November 2016, which has been a much better fit for me. Thanks for listening!

  3. Jaylen Schowalter 2024-06-20

It's a van, and it's affordable. Although its resale value and expected reliability have been affected, it still offers great value. Occasionally, the transmission acts up, but so far, there have been no major issues. It may feel cheap, but it gets the job done.

  4. Conner Bartoletti 2024-02-04

This vehicle may not be the most reliable option, as some drivers have reported issues with transmission, brakes, and warranty. It's important to do your research before making a purchase. Additionally, while the base price is affordable, it's worth noting that the materials used to build the car may not be of the highest quality. Repairs can also be costly. We recommend taking these factors into consideration before making a decision.

  5. Cristian Lueilwitz 2024-01-17

I recently purchased a 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan and unfortunately experienced some transmission issues after driving it for 5 years and 9 months and covering 85,000km. I had to have the transmission rebuilt, which cost me $5000. I would not recommend this vehicle. While it may have been affordable initially, the cost of repairs has made it much more expensive in the long run.

Positive 2015 Dodge Grand caravan car reviews

  1. Bo Casper 2024-08-16

I got exactly what I was looking for - a capacious van at an affordable price. Although I didn't treat it with the utmost care, I made sure to change the oil and keep up with the recommended maintenance, and it has never let me down. While the brakes needed replacing earlier than expected and the dealership wasn't the most responsive, the van still starts up immediately and runs smoothly. I've frequently hauled up to 1500 lbs and it still has plenty of power. While it may not be the most luxurious or quiet ride, it reliably gets you and all your belongings to your destination. I even managed to fit 6 friends in it for a trip to the cottage by adding a middle seat. Overall, it's a great value and I haven't had any problems with it despite having driven 130,000 km.

  2. Juwan Gleason 2024-07-24

I do my own maintenance on my van and have over 134000 miles on it with no engine or transmission problems. I recommend changing the oils regularly as I don't believe in lifetime oil. For the engine, I suggest changing it every 5000 miles and for the transmission, every 50000 miles.

  3. Brett Crooks 2024-07-24

Great vehicle! If they were still making them, I would buy one again.

  4. Hermann Zieme 2024-07-07

Great car! It rides smoothly and is very comfortable. The only thing I had to change were the brakes.

  5. Wilhelm Funk 2024-05-12

I purchased this car brand new in 2015 and it has been a wonderful addition to our family. With its cloth interior, DVD entertainment, and stow-and-go feature, it has been perfect for our long trips. It has a love for speed and gets an average gas mileage of 10L/100km (sorry US readers, I grew up in metric). At around 30,000km, I had some minor issues with the front side and the link bars had to be changed under warranty. Although I wasn't happy with the dealerships in general, I can't blame the car for that. After the warranty expired, I started using my favorite fully synthetic oil, Amsoil, and put the same brand in the transmission along with iridium sparkplugs. The car works even better now and seems happier. There are a few small spots of rust around the wheels, but it's nothing major and I plan to take care of it this year. Overall, I'm sad to see these cars go. Although there are still a few left at dealerships at awesome prices, I don't have space for two in our garage, otherwise I would've bought a new, last model, last production one. This car drives like a dream, is comfortable for the whole family, good on gas, good looking, and a reliable working horse (one of not so many vans that can fit 4x8 sheets of everything inside, with the gate closed). If you take care of your car, it will take care of you. I'm very happy with this car and as of February 2021, it has almost 140,000 km and still drives and feels like new.
