Common 1994 Dodge Grand caravan problems
The 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan, like any vehicle, has its share of common problems reported by owners. However, the search results do not provide specific details about the 1994 model year. Instead, they focus on various model years, including 2009, 2011, and 2014. To provide a comprehensive answer, I will discuss the common problems found in the Dodge Grand Caravan for the years mentioned, which can still be relevant to the 1994 model.
- Faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM): According to many owners of the 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan, problems with the TIPM are common. The minivan may have difficulty starting or not start at all. Sometimes, windows and doors tend to open randomly. The automaker has not issued a recall to fix this issue, but several online forums provide ways to resolve the problem, although they may only work for a short time.
- Engine Problems: Some 2009 Dodge Grand Caravans have suffered from engine problems, with the van sometimes abruptly stopping while driving. The vehicle may display the traction control light before it stops while in motion. Excessive oil consumption, engine misfires, starter issues, and the check engine light turning on were also prevalent in this model year. The automaker fixed this problem by issuing a recall on 2009 Dodge Grand Caravans.
- Valve Stem Corrosion: Fiat-Chrysler made a mistake by using aluminum valve stems in the Dodge Grand Caravan, which can lead to corrosion. This issue can cause the tires to lose air pressure, leading to potential safety hazards.
- Faulty Oil Filter Adapter: The Dodge Caravan's fourth most common complaint was engine oil escaping from a faulty oil filter adapter. 41 owners dealt with this problem, which can lead to oil leaks and engine damage. This issue affected several model years, including 1998 to 2004 and 2006 to 2007.
- Noisy Worn Sway Bar Bushings: 53 Dodge Caravan owners reported noise caused by worn rubber bushings on the sway bar. This bar keeps the Caravan from rolling when it corners. Owners described rattling, humming, or clunking noises that came from the front suspension during low-speed driving.
- Crankshaft End Play: The Dodge Caravan's crankshaft end play being out of spec can cause the seal of the front crankshaft to pop out, leading to engine leaks and oil loss. This issue affects several model years, including 2000 and 2003 to 2007.
- Power Windows: One or more power windows that stopped working due to a bad window regulator or motor is the most common complaint about the Dodge Caravan. Fixing the problem might mean replacing both the regulator and the motor as a set.
While the specific problems for the 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan are not provided in the search results, the issues mentioned above can still be relevant to the 1994 model. It is essential to address these problems promptly to ensure the vehicle's safety and longevity.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my beloved 1994 Van. I've had it for over 6 years now, and it has been a great ride. I bought it with 108K miles from the first owner, and it now has 190K. The transmission was replaced under factory warranty at 90K, and I've been very meticulous with oil changes, transmission service, and tune-ups. Other than common wear and maintenance issues, this van has treated me very well. The 3.8L engine is quite rare for a 1994 model, and the transmission is a 4sp auto with a cooler, as the vehicle had a towing package option from the factory. The galvanized body was a big plus for me when I bought it. I plan to keep driving this van until I need to spend $1000 at one time. I've considered trading it in for another used vehicle, but I would probably only get 300-400 dollars, and that new used car could be a lemon. Thanks for listening!

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with a car I've had for a while. I bought a loaded 3.8L LE 2 years used and it has been a great car for my family. It has been driven a lot, first by my family and then as my daily driver for a few years. Recently, my teenage son has been driving it for 1.5 years. While it's sad to part with it, we're excited for my son to upgrade. This car has been a real workhorse and has been generally very reliable. It always started and ran smoothly and quietly, even to this day. We did have to rebuild the transmission at 70K miles, but it's still going strong at 225K miles. The AC did go out about a year ago, but otherwise, very little went wrong. I was surprised to see other reviews dinging this vehicle, as they were all submitted when the car was 10 years old! What do you expect? Most other 10-year-old cars are in the junkyard or some canal somewhere by now.

We bought this van with 88,000 miles on it, and now, 7 years later, it has 219,000 miles. It's been our family car, so wherever I go, it goes too. We've never had to replace the engine or transmission, and my Dodge has been an incredibly reliable vehicle! I love the spaciousness of it, and it handles great! I've even hauled a few bales of hay and always get my feed for the horses in it. Honestly, I can't say anything bad about it. We've only had to replace the drive axles on both sides, and that's been the most we've had to do in terms of repairs. The transmission is giving us a few problems now, but we're keeping an eye on the fluid and not using overdrive, which isn't as good on mpg. We're starting to look for a different car, but I'm finding it hard to give up my Dodge because I love it so much!
-
After 12 years and 158K miles, I can't help but feel grateful for my trusty vehicle. It has been a reliable companion, with only the second transmission needing replacement. I'm happy to report that there's no rust or squeaks, and the captain's chairs are still as comfortable as ever. Plus, we still get over 25 mpg on a trip! I couldn't have completed my basement renovation without it - it's been a real workhorse hauling all my supplies from Home Depot. It even still pulls a trailer with ease! While there was one odd incident this past winter when the rear tailgate window shattered after I closed the driver's door, overall it's been a great ride. The first transmission died at 69K miles, but the dealer covered it without question under the 7/70 warranty. The second transmission is doing just fine. The radio did go 4-5 years ago, but I replaced it with a CD player. I've never had to do any work on the power accessories. I plan to keep this vehicle until it finally gives up the ghost!
-
This car's 3.8 L 6 cyl engine has been fantastic! It still drives like the day we left the dealership, even after 133K miles. I'm confident it will keep going for several more years.

We went with a used Grand Voyager because we didn't want to make a big payment. Our trade and a 3-year loan resulted in a payment of only $116. At that price, occasional repairs wouldn't be a big deal. The van has been very reliable, with the exception of a problem with the AC system (which we still plan to fix or trade up in the spring). The average mileage is about 16, which I wish were higher.

Despite some challenges during my ownership, I was able to keep the vehicle running for an impressive 11 years. While the build quality was not the best, it was still better than a 1971 Chev Nova that I once owned. Although the transmission had some issues, I was able to keep it functioning. The interior fit and finish could have been better, and the exterior finish was typical of the '90s American poor quality. However, I was able to keep the vehicle running by taking it to the garage for repairs. Overall, I am proud of my ability to keep the vehicle running for so long despite the challenges it presented.

We've had a great experience with this vehicle! We purchased it used with 75,000 miles and have since added 76,000 more. While we did encounter some issues with the electrical wiring, including a small fire in the door and a squirrel chewing through the harness, repairs have been relatively minor. We've been fortunate enough to avoid any major transmission issues (fingers crossed!). Admittedly, the transmission can be a bit finicky with 151,000 miles on it, but I've found that starting off gently from a stop helps alleviate the problem. According to my mechanic, the vehicle has a lot of weight to pull, so taking it easy from the start will serve you well.

Hi there! I noticed that the back hatch release stopped working at 40,000 km, the steering rack and head gasket were replaced at 90,000 km, a new transmission was installed at 112,000 km, and the radio stopped working at 120,000 km. Additionally, the paint on the roof is peeling badly (you can rinse it off with a garden hose!). I wish Honda had sold minivans back in 1995! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Our 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan is a great vehicle that we can always rely on. Although the electrical gadgets on the van can be a bit finicky, our local mechanic is able to keep it in good shape with just a few repairs. We find it to be even better than our previous Nissan Quest, which was a bit of a headache. It's important to keep in mind that all vehicles require some amount of maintenance, so we find it amusing that some reviewers are surprised by this. Overall, we believe that this vehicle is a fantastic bargain for the level of service it provides.
