No mechanic I’ve taken it to can solve the problem I’ve spent so much money replacing parts on this car.

All doors locked and it flew down the driveway almost flipping over at the bottom. We took the vehicle to the dealership we purchased it from on June 29, 2023 and they could not recreate the issue. No warning lights were on prior to this incident and when citizens that stopped when this happened, got in the vehicle to dislodge it from the dirt that thankfully stopped it from flipping, they verified that it still showed the E Brake as being engaged it was still in park. No police or insurance was called because there was no damage to the vehicle or children but the dealership was called. I do have video of this event but your website does not accept videos

The investigator says it is believed to be the inverter in the back drivers side panel under the cup holders which short circuited and caught fire which engulfed my entire vehicle in a mater if 40 minutes while waiting for the fire department to arrive. The van is obviously a goner. Burnt to a crisp along with all of our DeWalt power tools batteries fishing poles tackle chainsaw and 4 brand new car seats that were just purchased with the last 2 months. STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-03-31
  • VIN: 2D4RN3DG8BR
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The TIPM failed which caused a loss of power to the vehicle and power to the fuel pump. I was driving at approximately 60 MPH when the vehicle lost all power and the steering wheel felt locked. I was unable to turn the steering wheel as the Dodge Grand Caravan came to a quick stop as if it was out of gas. Luckily I reacted quickly and was able to avoid an accident. After approximately 10 minutes of trying to restart the vehicle and drive to a safe location the vehicle restarted. This happened again when I was driving and came to a red light at a major intersection and the vehicle stalled out as if out of gas and the steering locked. I again tried to restart the vehicle intermittently for 15 minutes; after which it finally restarted, and I was able to drive and get out of the intersection without an accident. I was lucky that this didn't cause an accident. The other times the defective TIPM and power to the fuel pump caused the vehicle to fail to start and left me stranded. I have had the vehicle diagnosed and the TIPM repair price is quite expensive. The vehicle did not have any check engine or warning lights before this occurred. I have read many similar complaints of this occurring with others driving Dodge/Chrysler vehicles. I feel that there is evidence that the TIPM and the fuel pump on the 2011 Dodge Caravan are safety concerns. Every experienced mechanic I have spoken with is aware of the common issue with the TIPM, and power to the fuel pump and vehicle. Although I avoided an accident there is a concern for everyone's safety.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-03-01
  • VIN: 2D4RN3DG7BR
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: My Chrysler Van first started to experience strange electrical issues. Key FOB would not open doors, driver seat could not be adjusted without blowing a fuse, and finally it started to get almost impossible to start when the engine was cold in the morning. I took it to my trusted mechanic, and after running a diagnostic, he said they got over 300 message errors. However, since they were not a dealership, they were unable to repair my van. They said they had seen this issue before, and I needed to take it to a Chrysler dealership for repair. I took it to Chrysler, with the note from my mechanic about the 300 errors, and they said this was a WELL KNOW issue. They commented that I was lucky to be able to drive the van to their dealership, because most vans with this problem had to be towed in. They said my entire fuse box needed to be replaced, and the cost of the job would be over $1,100.00 dollars, BUT THE REAL ISSUE WOULD BE GETTING THE BOX IN THE FIRST PLACE! The service department mgr. said it took 1 customer over 9 months to have his van repaired because the part was unavailable. I placed my order on 3/28/23. As of today June 5, the part is not scheduled until June 23. In the meantime, along with the $1,100 repair, I am paying $160/month to rent a vehicle from my brother. Since this is a known issue, I believe Chrysler should have to pay: 1) $791.06 for the fuse box. 2) Half the labor costs for installation and programming - About $150. 3) Reimburse me for at least 3/4 of the cost of renting my brothers car. Having to wait MONTHS for a part that has been a problem for years is unacceptable for a major car manufacturer.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-11-15
  • VIN: 2d4rn5dg9br
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: This vehicle always fails to start in the colder weather. After a review of this condition. It has been found that the fuel pump relay does not send proper signal. This relay is a part of the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). When it fails to operate, the vehicle will experience long crank times. With its ignition switch style, as soon as you turn the key, the vehicle will continue to crank UNLESS you manually turn the switch all the way back to the off position. This condition will cause the starter motor to overheat or burn up. Eventually the vehicle may start then die. Fuel delivery is too inconsistent when colder weather arises. You can't just replace a plug-in-style replacement fuel pump relay since it is a part of the whole TIPM. This vehicle has not yet died in traffic or on the highway thank God. There is never any CEL illumination or any stored fault codes. It started doing this the first winter I bought it. This is my second year and it's only just Fall and it is acting up again. This is a KNOWN issue among these TIPMs that are on more than just this vehicle but many other Dodge/Chryslers with this same TIPM. Someone needs to take accountability for a faulty product that needs redesigned before these issues continue to affect the consumers that trust in their product. I hope that this issue is addressed and resolved before others continue to complain about vehicle faults, or even worse experience any catastrophic conditions resulting in death of consumers based on this faulty TIPM, that controls most aspects of the whole vehicle.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-15
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • VIN: 2d4rn5dg6br
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: While driving my vehicle at highway speed (75mph), the driver's seat headrest, for lack of a more descriptive term, exploded and struck me in the back of my head. After the incident I stopped the vehicle and looked at the headrest. It appears to be spring loaded and something in the headrest failed causing it to spring forward for no reason. The headrest is now compressed and held in place with zip ties until I can find a replacement. I feel this is a safety issue due to the disorientation and headache that immediately followed the incident.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-04-30
  • VIN: 2D4RN3DG3BR
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The tipm fuel pump relay is stuck causing the fuel pump to stay on even when the vehicle is turned off and the key is not in the ignition switch. This problem is, its dangerous if I was ever to be in an accident and fuel pump will stay on according to the mechanic. Also my car battery is drained after an hour making it undrivable until I call a tow or get a jump start. It was inspected by a mechanic and the vehicle is available for inspection. No warning lamps were on or previous symptoms before 4/30/21. Only the sound of a running fuel pump when the car is completely off. Mechanic states car is known to have this issue. Recalls were made for other dodge vehicles with same part number but they failed to include the this model.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-10-21
  • VIN: 2D4RN5DG8BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
  • Summary: My car was fine until one day in rain the whole dash and radio shut off and came back on repeatedly, spedometer bouncing each time. Took it to dealer/JDByrider and "they dont know prob/happens all the time" w a very "oh well" attitude. They did nothing. I called again when car ALSO started shutting completely off at long red lights. I was told next appt available would be 23 days! Thats still 4 days away. NOW in addition to dash/radio/spedometer problem the van doesnt just die at LONG lights, it dies if I have to stop for drive thrus, stop signs, short lights. The headlights have also started flickering very very badly. Im upset that repairs are supposed to be covered by JDByrider and theyve had me driving this dangerous car for almost a month before trying to fix it. Im not allowed to get work done on it elsewhere or else it makes future repairs on parts not covered by JDByrider. I have 4 kids and this car is not safe on road and Im literally not allowed to get someone else to fix it if I want it to continue to be covered by JDB. JDB blames Dodge. My car purchase was supposed to cover repairs and instead Im being forced to drive 4 kids around in car dealer cant fix and they claim Dodge dont know how to either. I should have never been expected to wait almost a month for this to be addressed.

I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER,THE PROBLEM WAS A HOLE IN THE TUBING ON THE RACKEN PINEN STEERING .IF IT WAS ON A HIGHWAY OR ON A FASTER ROAD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A VERY BAD ACCIDENT WITH OIL LEAKING AND COULD NOT STEER THE VAN. I WAS VERY VERY LUCKY.THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT. I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE HOLE. I REPORTED TO CHRYSLER. Consumer stated metal that was replaced rusted.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-04
  • VIN: 2D4RN5DG1BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: Battery light turned on and vehicle immediately shut off. Got car jump to make it home and all electrical components went hay wire - all dash lights blinking - transmission wouldn’t not shit and accelerated by itself, headlights wouldn’t go on, windows wouldn’t go down. Dodge recalled every other car model in their line for a bad ALTERNATOR rapid failure, except Caravan, which should absolutely be included. It’s a know issue - car shouldn’t be dying while driving with under 100k miles.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-08-31
  • VIN: 2D4RN4DG2BR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: It started a few months ago with my van not starting properly. After being stranded multiple times & it stalling once while driving, I had my mechanic check multiple issues we assumed the fuel pump was going bad. Nearly $600 later and a new fuel pump the issues continued until today when it is now dead! After searching I found 2010 and older models of my van were recalled for this EXACT issue, just not 2011! I don’t have the money to fix it and am pissed that while it’s the same problem it is not covered in the recall.

Negative 2011 Dodge Grand caravan car reviews

  1. Lloyd Klein 2024-09-17

My 2011 Dodge Caravan has 60,000 miles on it. The vehicle has a known issue with the fuel pump relay, which Dodge has not yet recalled. Additionally, there is an electrical problem that has caused a no crank, no start issue, leaving me stranded on multiple occasions. The cost of repairs for the vehicle has reached $1200. Based on my experience, I would not recommend purchasing this vehicle or any other Dodge product.

  2. Jose Runte 2024-06-23

I recently purchased this van for my two Boxers, but unfortunately, I have experienced poor quality and unreliability with some major components. At around 16K miles, I noticed a vibration/wobble in the brakes and had to spend over $400 for new pads and resurfacing all four discs. I took it to the shop for its 20k service and have been hearing a knocking sound (like bearings) when braking for the past two days. The sound at the left front gets worse the longer it's driven. I received a call from Newark Chrysler Dodge Jeep Service and was informed that the transmission is the issue, and one of the gears is falling apart. The van is still in the shop. I am considering pricing a Honda Odyssey and getting rid of this van, which has been a disappointment.

  3. Gaylord Corwin 2024-04-25

I currently drive a stripped-down version of the 2011 Grand Caravan for my vanpool. During my daily 80-mile commute, I have had the opportunity to sit in all seating positions. In terms of performance, the 3.6L engine is fairly peppy, although the transmission could be programmed better to be more responsive and less jerky. On average, I get 23 to 24 mpg (70% hwy). As for comfort, the front seats are good, the middle seats are okay if you slide them all the way back, and the third row is a bit tight on legroom, even with the middle seats all the way forward. Unfortunately, the Stow n Go design leaves little to no legroom. Additionally, anchor points for the middle seats' seat belts hinder third-row passengers from straddling their legs forward. However, the interior is quiet, and overall, the Grand Caravan is a good value, although not perfect.

  4. Jimmie Lueilwitz 2024-03-03

I'm writing this review to share my experience with this vehicle. While reading other reviews, I noticed that many people had similar issues to mine. I wonder why there haven't been any recalls for these problems. We purchased the vehicle at 85k miles, and unfortunately, it stopped working at 125k miles. Here are some of the issues we faced: a new transmission, two calipers, a thermostat, a crankshaft sensor, a clicking noise in the rear of the cabin that couldn't be traced, brake issues, two camshaft phasers, and TIPM/fuel pump relay issues. Despite Dodge recalling the TIPM/fuel pump relay in other vehicles, it wasn't recalled in this one. The camshaft phasers were the final straw. Two mechanics estimated that it would cost around $3k just to diagnose the issue, and they recommended a rebuilt engine for that price. Despite still owing on the vehicle, we decided to cut our losses. We purchased a 2004 Chevy Venture for $1000 cash with 180k miles on it, and it seems to be in better mechanical shape.

Reliable, but with some issues. The engine is strong and I have never had any serious issues with it. However, with 170k miles, the transmission is starting to act up and the wipers decide when they want to work. I had to rig up some wiring in the tipm to get past a faulty fuel pump relay and I have had to replace the brakes constantly due to them being undersized. I have also had to replace the alternator 3 times. Although there are a lot of little things that add up to some serious frustrations, the interior is OK and the fold flat seats are great. The driver's seat is decent and the fuel mileage is decent too. The interior design is good for a minivan and the exterior is holding up well with the amount of abuse it has taken over the years. All that said, if you don't mind doing some maintenance every few months, it's a beast that will keep on ticking.

This car was a wonderful surprise replacement for my accident-totaled 2002 GC. It matches Toyota and Nissan in terms of quality and features, but costs about $3K less. Even a comparable Honda was more expensive. After driving 5000 miles, including a 2700-mile road trip with six people, we remain extremely satisfied. The Crew trim level has all the features necessary for a long road trip, as well as for the usual local commute, kids hauling, and cargo hauling expected of a minivan. We have had no problems or complaints, and it has been a great driver. It gets 18-20.5 mpg locally and 21-24.5 mpg on long trips, and the engine isn't even broken in yet. Overall, it is a very competent and friendly minivan.

It's great to hear that you've been enjoying your 2011 DGC for almost 6 years now! It sounds like it's been a very dependable vehicle for you, getting up to 20 city and 28 mpg highway. I love the idea of folding down the back seats and putting a memory foam down for vacation trips to let the kids sprawl out if they don't want to sit the whole time. It's good to know that the only issue you've had is needing new brakes every year or so, but it's great that you haven't had any other major issues. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

My wife used to be completely against owning a minivan, but after years of convincing her about the benefits of better fuel efficiency, comfort, and convenience, we finally decided to purchase a 2011 Grand Caravan Crew with the rear entertainment package. Now, our five-year-old daughter and my 10 and 11-year-old nieces absolutely love it! The only question we hear is, 'Can we start a movie?' The comfortable and refined driver's seat makes you forget that you're even driving a minivan.

I was really impressed with my first van that I bought in 2000, so much so that I replaced it with a new one in 2011! The stow and go feature is fantastic, and the entertainment system is top-notch. The reliability of the van is unbeatable. I'm only selling my 11-year-old van because my little kids are all grown up and moving out. The unlimited Mopar warranty that I have is an incredible value, and the best part is that I can transfer it too!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 1 owner used van. At first, I was hesitant to become a 'man in a van', but it turned out to be a great decision. Whether I was hauling the kids or lumber from Lowe's, this van was able to handle it all with ease. I was thoroughly impressed with the cargo space and the versatility of the folding seats. The best part? I never once had a reliability issue with it. The vehicle worked flawlessly the entire time I owned it, which was amazing. Despite the 25mpg rating, I was easily able to get 27mpg on the highway. Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to my beloved van because my wife's Ford Taurus X was falling apart and we had to trade in my Caravan with her car to make up the amount we were upside down in the Taurus X. Thank you for letting me share my experience with you!
