Common 2008 Dodge Grand caravan problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Dodge Grand Caravan 2008, several common problems have been reported:
- Oil Leaks: Owners of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan have experienced issues with oil leaks, particularly related to the oil filter adapter in the engine block. This problem can be traced back to the oil filter housing adapter or the gasket itself. Some owners have reported that the issue was addressed under warranty, while others had to deal with potential oil leaks that could lead to engine damage if not resolved promptly.
- Front Crankshaft Seal Popping Out: Another common problem reported by owners is the front crankshaft seal popping out. This issue often triggers warning lights like the check engine light and oil warning lights. The faulty seal can lead to oil leaks and, if not addressed, may result in engine damage. Owners have highlighted the importance of addressing this issue promptly to prevent further complications.
- Power Door Lock Failure: Power door lock failure is a prevalent problem among owners of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. This issue is often attributed to a faulty key and internal switch, causing the door locks to malfunction. Some drivers have experienced doors unlocking unexpectedly, posing security risks. Owners have shared temporary solutions like fuse replacements, but a permanent fix may be necessary to ensure the safety and security of the vehicle.
- Engine Stalling: Engine stalling has been reported by some owners of the 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, linked to a dirty throttle body in some units. Symptoms include low engine idle, flashing oil light, rough idle in gear, and engine hesitation during acceleration. Cleaning the throttle body is a common solution to address this issue and restore proper engine performance.
These common problems with the Dodge Grand Caravan 2008 highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt repairs, and thorough inspections to ensure the longevity and reliability of the vehicle. Addressing these issues proactively can help owners avoid costly repairs and maintain the safety and performance of their Dodge Grand Caravan.

- Summary: SHIFT LEVER PLACED IN TO PARK WILL NOT RELEASE KEY FOB, KEEPING THE VEHICLE IN ACCESSORY MODE AND DRAINING BATTERY. OCCASSIONALLY SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH FROM 'PARK' TO OTHER POSITIONS AND BACK TO 'PARK' WILL CAUSE THE IGNITION TO RELEASE KEY FOB AS NORMAL. EVENTUALLY FOUND ON FORUMS THAT FLICKING THE SHIFTER BUTTON ONCE IN PARK WILL HELP DEPRESS MICROSWITCH AND ALLOW IGNITION TO TURN OFF, THUS RELEASEING FOB. EVENTUALLY THIS STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. MY FIRST FIX WAS REMOVING THE DASH AND BENDING THE MICROSWITCH LEG SO THAT MORE FIRM CONTACT WAS MADE BY SHIFT ARM WHEN PLACED IN 'PARK.' THIS EVENTUALLY STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. I FINALLY REMOVED DASH AND DISPLACED MICROSWITCH SO THAT IT PROTRUDES THROUGH IGNITION RING AND HANGS OUT NEAR THE KEY FOB. NOW WHEN I PARK, I MANUALLY PRESS THE MICROSWITCH AND THE IGINITION RELEASES THE FOB FULLY EVERY TIME! OTHERWISE YOU'RE STUCK REPLACING THE ENTIRE SHIFT ASSEMBLY FOR OVER $200 FOR PARTS AND MORE FOR WHATEVER LABOR IS CHARGED! ALL FOR A $2 MICROSWITCH THAT IS POSITIONED WRONG.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-22
- VIN: 1D8HN54P68B
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS
- Summary: The vehicle entered "limp home" mode on a busy highway. After a little research, I found out that this could be caused by a short in wiring. There was already a recall on this vehicle related to the wiring harnesses in the rear sliding doors. At the time, we were experiencing no issues, but took it anyway where we were told that everything was OK and as far as I know, no work was done to correct the potential defect. Subsequently that assembly has fallen apart on both sides and now we're left with a vehicle that repeatedly enters limp home mode often at very inconvenient times, triggering the wipers, as well as all the lights on the dashboard. We'd really like to know that this known issue can be fixed and that Chrysler/Dodge didn't actually put an expiration date on safety.

JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE TALKING TO CHRYSLER AND MENTIONED THE WIRE HARNESS ISSUE WITH THEM, TOLD THEM OF THE SAFETY CONCERN THIS COULD HAVE ON MY AND MANY OTHER FAMILIES OUT THERE THAT OWN THESE VANS. SOMETIMES THEY WILL NOT LOCK UNTIL YOU ARE GOING 30 MPH OR 45 MPH. NOTE THAT ALL THREE SPEEDS ARE MULTIPLES OF 15. AFTER THE DOORS EVENTUALLY LOCK THEMSELVES, ALL OF THE DOOR LOCKS IN THE VEHICLE WILL UNLOCK WITHOUT WARNING AS YOU ARE DRIVING. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED - 20 MPH, 70 MPH, WHATEVER. ONCE THEY UNLOCK, THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE "UNLOCKING" THE DOORS REPEATEDLY EVERY 5- 10 SECONDS CONTINUOUSLY. THE FRONT DOORS CAN BE MANUALLY LOCKED BY PUSHING DOWN THE DOOR LOCK BUTTON LOCATED AT THE TOP REAR SECTION OF THE DOOR. AS SOON AS YOU MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS, THEY WILL UNLOCK AGAIN AND CONTINUE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS EVERY 5 - 10 SECONDS AS YOU ARE DRIVING THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT IN THE DASH LIGHTS UP WHEN YOU START THE CAR AND STAYS CONTINUOUSLY LIT AS YOU ARE DRIVING IT. I CONSIDER THESE DANGEROUS DEFECTS. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, AND MY DODGE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE NO "OPEN RECALLS" FOR MY VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 86,000 MILES ON IT.

I purchased this minivan in 2009 with only 18,000 miles on it and got a great deal. It has been perfect for my family of five, especially with the convenient stow and go feature. I have always taken it to the dealership for oil changes every 4,000 miles or 4 months, so I have solid records on file. They also did the 36,000-mile check-up. Although I had to replace the rear rotors and pads at 32,000 miles and have the front rotors turned and new pads installed, I was able to do all the work myself and save about $400. I was surprised that it needed brakes so soon. I also saved some money by doing the brake fluid flush and power-steering flush myself. I did have the dealer flush the transmission fluid. While there have been some recalls and it seems to require more maintenance than my Japanese cars, I still love my minivan.

I've had experience with minivans for over 15 years, and before that, wagons. This is by far the best one I've owned. I really enjoyed the previous G Caravan and the T & C before this one. It drives well, is comfortable, has good power (3.8 engine), and I haven't had any problems with it even after 29000 miles. It has the best mpg I've ever had (25 highway, 19-20 town), and I absolutely love the Stow and Go feature. I'm not sure what the 'professional reviewers' are looking for in a minivan, but this one has everything I need. It also has more usable space than any other minivan I've seen, which is what led me to choose the Chrysler T&C back in '94.

The vehicle we leased exceeded our expectations. During a week-long trip, I drove it for 3000 miles and found it to be a great choice. The van handled well and the engine had ample power. Although there was some wind noise, it did not detract from the overall experience. The radio could be improved, but that is a minor issue. The gas mileage was reasonable for a vehicle of this size, averaging about 22mph with 80% of the driving on the interstate. The keyless entry system was not to my liking, as it caused the horn to beep and the lights to blink every time the doors were locked. Despite this minor inconvenience, I was thoroughly impressed with the vehicle's performance and would highly recommend it to others.

There is plenty of room in this vehicle for both passengers and cargo. It's great for families!

This is our third Chrysler minivan and it's the best one yet! We upgraded from our 2006 Town and Country and have been blown away by the improved power and ride quality. Plus, there's so much more storage space now!

This vehicle has experienced some cooling and heating repairs, including AC pipes, radiator and radiator cap, intake manifold gasket, and water pump. Additionally, there have been some issues with the interior plastic panels, seat handles, and bumper clamps. However, it is important to note that these repairs have been made and the vehicle is still functional. While it may not be the most reliable option, it is still a viable choice for those in need of transportation.

Our '08 Grand Caravan SXT is a good vehicle, but I wouldn't get another one. As one reviewer mentioned, the car tends to eat brakes. I had to replace the front brakes at approximately 20K miles and the rear brakes at 25K miles. This is quite early, considering that rear brakes do only 10% of the stopping work. There is no reason for the rear brakes to be replaced so soon, which is absurd. However, I must say that Chrysler reimbursed me $93 for the brakes (I spent $200 for all 4 brakes), which was a pleasant surprise. We had a few trips to the dealership because the A/C didn't blow cold air and the radiator cap was leaking (both recalls). In terms of fuel economy, we averaged 23 MPG on a trip to Boston. Most of the driving is city driving, and we get 17MPG.

My wife and I bought our 2008 Grand Caravan a few years ago because we were drawn to its new body style and stow and go feature. Unfortunately, we have experienced 4 recalls and an electrical issue that no one seems to be able to diagnose. We have had to replace the brakes and rotors twice, which has been frustrating. Overall, we have not been satisfied with this vehicle. I hope Chrysler can improve their reliability and affordability in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I've had so many recalls, I know all the shop attendants by first name. It's been frustrating dealing with poor reliability. The brakes went before 20K miles and were recalled, the AC went out over the summer and was recalled, and the car shifts down hard when I let off the gas, which may be a transmission problem. The doors and radiator cap were also recalled. In hindsight, I should have considered buying a used car with 75K miles, which would have been more reliable.

I spent $988 to replace all four brakes on a Grand Caravan with just under 18,000 miles. The rear brake shoe was frozen and the front brake pads were 97% worn. Despite the dealer's advice to watch the front brakes, the rear brakes were the real issue. Unfortunately, this Canadian assembled vehicle made from Chinese parts did not meet my expectations. I believe it's time to consider other brands.
