Common 2010 Dodge Grand caravan problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:

  1. TIPM Malfunction: The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) controls various electrical functions in the vehicle. Malfunctions in the TIPM can lead to problems starting the engine, erratic exterior lighting behavior, and unpredictable windshield wiper movement. Depending on the severity, a TIPM might require a reset or complete replacement.
  2. Fuel Pump Relay Fault: Unexpected stalling has been reported by many owners, often pointing to an electrical fault related to the fuel pump relay within the TIPM. Inspecting and potentially replacing or repairing the affected relay can help mitigate this issue.
  3. Power Sliding Doors Issues: Malfunctioning power sliding doors are often attributed to electrical problems. Inspecting the wiring and connections, and replacing damaged wires or connectors, can restore proper function.
  4. Power Windows Troubles: Owners have experienced issues with power windows failing to open, close, or responding inconsistently, indicating electrical faults. Checking the window regulator, motor, and wiring for faults is crucial to address these problems.
  5. Electronic Accessories Malfunction: Radio, DVD players, and other electronic accessories may not turn on or behave erratically due to electrical issues. A software update for the infotainment system or inspecting the wiring and connections can help resolve these issues.
  6. Ignition Switch Problems: Difficulty in turning the key or the vehicle not starting can be linked to issues with the ignition switch. Replacing the ignition switch with a compatible part for the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan model can often solve this issue.
  7. Battery Drain: Some owners have reported faster-than-normal battery drain, indicating potential electrical issues with components drawing power when they shouldn't. Conducting a parasitic drain test using a multimeter can help identify the culprit.
  8. Airbag Warning Light: Illumination of the airbag warning light without a clear reason may indicate an issue with the vehicle's electrical system, especially the sensors. Using a diagnostic scan tool to identify the specific problem and performing a reset or sensor replacement as needed can address this issue.
  9. Headlight Problems: Flickering or dimming headlights can be dangerous and often indicate an electrical fault, possibly related to the TIPM, wiring, or the bulbs themselves. Inspecting the bulbs and then the wiring and TIPM can help pinpoint and resolve the issue.

These common electrical problems with the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan highlight the importance of regular maintenance and prompt troubleshooting to ensure a safe and reliable driving experience.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-21
  • VIN: 2D4RN3D15AR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: The ignition switch is faulty and extremely dangerous. The module that is defective is called the WIN module or Wireless Ignition Node module. Over 1 million dodge and Chrysler cars between 2008 and 2010 were recalled for this issue but when I called the local dealer for my 2010, they claim my car does not have the issue. I had the same exact issue with my 2008 and it also was claimed not to be covered which cost me over $600 to repair. What is the issue? Well, the car will spontaneously turn off while driving and or go into the accessory mode. This is extremely problematic because it is happening at random and is unexpected. In addition, the key then requires the driver to force it into the hole using extreme pressure to get it re-started. I feel that not enough of these were recalled as I have the exact problem (twice now on both my Vans) as described in R03 / NHTSA 14V-373. Since I keep my cars longer than most, this it seems entirely possible that the issue shows up later as the car ages. Incident can be re-produced at will with slight manipulation and happens at least once per week without trying to force the issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-02-07
  • VIN: 2D4RN5D16AR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: While driving power would shut off, everything shuts down for 2 seconds, and then goes back on. Does this sometimes 10 times within 15 minutes of driving. Then twice already after buying new battery (I thought it needed one because it would not even crank, had all lights, etc. But wouldn't start) it would not start till after 8 attempts, would start right up and drive with no issues. I searched online with people having same exact issues. I called Dodge and they said my van did not have a recall. I don't understand why if my van is having same issues.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-12-27
  • VIN: 2D4RN4DE4AR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: When driving down the highway, the engine may randomly turn off. Turning the key will usually turn the engine back on. When this occurs, all power to the vehicle is turned off until it is restored by moving the key. It is obviously a faulty ignition switch, but apparently there is no current recall for this problem for my vehicle. Other 2010 Grand Caravans have been recalled and repaired due to this problem in the past, but not mine. This issue should be addressed by FCA immediately!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-05-01
  • VIN: 2D4RN6DX7AR
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING,ENGINE
  • Summary: Interior panel lights will dim and flicker, headlights dim, radio will lose power, cabin fans for air conditioning will slow then the engine dies. This can happen while idling or driving at highway speeds without warning. When the engine dies all power steering is lost and braking and control is extremely difficult. After stopping the gear shift will not move into park and the key will not move to the off position for several minutes. Diagnosis narrowed this down to the TIPM. It was replaced and the issue stopped for 6 months then reoccurred. TIPM replacement again fixed the issue. Obviously the TIPM's have a defect and has been widely reported. Major issue is that only remanufactured TIPMS are available from the same defective build. Dealer charges over $1000 for the part and more to install it. There should be a class action lawsuit on this obvious dangerous defect that has not been addressed by Dodge.
2022-12-16

Negative 2010 Dodge Grand caravan car reviews

  1. Terence Collier 2025-03-06

My car would stall while driving, leaving me without power steering or brakes. I took it to the dealer I bought it from, and they were able to duplicate the issue a couple of times. One time, the person driving it was going 30 miles an hour, and the car stalled, almost causing an accident. It was not safe for me to be in. Additionally, the transmission was clunking and making my car jump when coming to a stop. Despite no codes popping up, the dealership was unable to identify the issue and fix it. I have a case going with customer service, but it has been difficult to contact them when I need to speak to them. The dealership also has a tendency to not respond to their requests. I have experienced stalling while going off an off-ramp and making turns, which is very dangerous. GM has expressed interest in getting me into a different car, but there have been excuses. I caution others to be aware of these issues. I have already paid for repairs that did not fix the problem, and I did not receive a refund. I no longer have this car.

Hi there! I bought this van back in September and unfortunately, it's already in the shop due to some noises in the exhaust system when I accelerate from a complete stop and a cold engine. The exhaust system has just been replaced, but now there seems to be another noise. As I write this, the van is still in the shop. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with their van? Thanks!

  3. Hadley Wyman 2025-02-15

Hi there, we've had a bit of trouble with our SE model van. Unfortunately, we've had to take it in for repairs a few times now, including a recent issue where the engine light came on and it wouldn't shift into second gear. We've noticed that a few other SE vans are also being repaired for similar issues, including one with only 38 miles on it. We've owned the vehicle for 5 months now, but have only been able to drive it for a total of 2 months, not consecutively. The dealership has offered to put in one more transmission before considering a refund. As a family that has traditionally only bought Dodge vehicles, we're a bit disappointed with this experience. Thanks for listening.

Hello! I wanted to share some important information with you. There is currently a recall on 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravans due to a problem with the Wireless Ignition Node. This can cause the key to shift from the on to accessory position and cause the engine and vehicle to lose power, which can increase the likelihood of a crash. It's important to note that unless this recall has been fixed, this van is not safe to drive. Unfortunately, replacement parts are currently backordered, with a minimum wait time of 4 months. If you are shopping in the used car market, please make sure this recall has been fixed before you purchase. It's worth noting that dealerships do not check to see if this recall has been fixed, so it's important to check specific VIN numbers at www.safercar.gov. I hope this information is helpful and saves someone the headache we are now suffering. Despite the recall, we have enjoyed this van. It's very comfortable and roomy, and drives nicely. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

After 9000 km, the transmission bearing has gone on my first Dodge, and it will definitely be my last. It's been quite a hassle, especially considering it's a brand new car... What do you suggest I do?

Awesome van! It rides great and the radio is the best in the business. Plus, it's a quiet ride. I've been averaging 21 mpg's.

Having a DGC with the stow 'n go feature is like having two vehicles. You can turn your 7-passenger kid-hauler into a very roomy and practical cargo-van in less than 30 seconds. In fact, you can pack more in this van than you could in an uncovered pick-up truck! It is designed to fit a 4x8 sheet of material! Bravo, Chrysler. This van is not only stylish, but also very roomy, comfortable and competitively priced. There are so many seating/hauling possibilities! Although the fuel economy is not stellar, it's better than a truck, and it's much more useful. The transmission in mine was jerky at first, but after 2500 miles it shifts smooth as silk. The under floor storage is impressive too!!

I really like it! It's great to see that Chrysler has made such an excellent minivan. The 2006 Dodge short base 3.3 L 175 hp gets an impressive 26 mpg on the highway, while the 2010 Dodge Grand 4.0L has even more power with 251 hp and still manages to get 27 mpg. That's a fantastic result! My kids are thrilled with the 2 DVDs, table, and LED lighting. The MyGIG system is also awesome! It's clear that this is one of the quietest vans on the market.

I purchased my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan brand new in February 2011. It has been an overall terrific vehicle. The second row seats stowed away easily, making it convenient for my son to get his bowling equipment out of the side doors during his competitive tournaments. The vehicle handled well through the high altitudes of the Rockies from Illinois to Las Vegas in 2011, and also during a trip to Fort Worth, Texas in December 2011. My Grand Caravan may not have a lot of fancy features, but its comfort, spaciousness, and sturdy solid feel are its selling points. The vehicle handles well even in ice and snow conditions, and I was able to regain control of the vehicle during a serious slide on ice in Arkansas on the Texas trip. The brakes were the worst issue on the vehicle, but the problem was resolved after I replaced the pads and rotors with high carbon rotors and ceramic brake pads. Although I have had some weird engine codes at times, the vehicle has always passed the Emissions Tests required by the State of Illinois. I have over 100,000 miles on it, and I have been diligent with maintenance, including oil changes every 3000 miles, transmission fluid purged at 70,000 miles, and radiator fluid flushed at 50,000 miles. The 3.3 liter engine is not an acceleration demon, but it is adequate, and the mileage has been about 21 mpg overall. I can't complain. By the way, I have owned several performance cars, but I love this big old tank the most. I have owned 5 Dodge Caravans over the last 30 years, and I really like them. Most cars today come with a lot of options and features that can be overwhelming and distracting. Personally, I prefer cars without CVT transmissions or interference engines. It's important to remember that just because something is modern, it doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Unfortunately, since April 2023, diagnostic codes like P0172 and P0456 have become a real headache. I'm currently debating whether to fix my car or junk it, as parts are becoming increasingly expensive for my 15-year-old vehicle. While the body, suspension, brakes, and interior are still in great condition, the dodgy electronics in my Dodge are causing issues with controlling the engine fuel/air mixture and spark timing. The cost of towing my car to the shop alone is killing my budget. In the future, I'm considering purchasing a Toyota or Honda, as my repair shop has told me they require the fewest repairs and are the least expensive to fix. I trust these local guys to give me honest advice.

We've only had our 2010 Dodge Caravan for a week and we absolutely love it! It's beautiful, comfortable, and we're confident in its reliability because this is the 5th Chrysler minivan we've owned. We looked around to see if there was anything we liked better, but we ended up coming right back to the Dodge Caravan. Nothing else even came close, especially for the price.
