Common 1995 Dodge Grand caravan problems
The Dodge Grand Caravan, a popular minivan, has had its fair share of problems over the years. This article will focus on the 1995 model and its common issues based on complaints from owners.
- Faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM): The TIPM is a critical component of the Dodge Grand Caravan's electrical system, responsible for controlling various functions such as power windows, door locks, and starting the engine. Some 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan owners have reported problems with the TIPM, including difficulty starting the engine, randomly opening windows and doors, and the vehicle not starting at all. These issues can be caused by a faulty TIPM, which may need to be replaced to resolve the problem.
- Engine Troubles: Some 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan owners have reported engine problems, including the engine stalling while driving, misfiring, and issues with the starter. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out spark plugs, faulty ignition coils, or problems with the vehicle's fuel system.
- Power Door Lock Failure: Power door lock failure is a common problem in many Dodge Grand Caravan models, including the 1995 model. This issue is often attributed to a faulty key and the internal switch, which causes the door locks to malfunction. Drivers report that a beep confirmed that their doors were locked before driving, but upon checking later, they often found their doors unlocked. Some owners were able to restore their power door lock's function by removing and replacing the 20 amp fuse.
- Oil Leaks: Some 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan owners have reported leaks in the oil filter adapter in the engine block, which may be traced back to the oil filter housing adapter or the gasket itself. Dodge has made a revised oil filter adapter to address this problem, and for some, the issue was fixed at no cost at all because it was included in the warranty.
- Front Crankshaft Seal Popping Out: Many 2006 Dodge Caravan owners have complained about their minivan’s crankshaft seal popping out, which may also be the culprit behind an oil leak. The faulty seal may cause the check engine light and oil warning lights to switch on before the owner notices the state of their front crankshaft.
These are some of the most commonly reported problems with the 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan based on complaints from owners. It's important to note that not all vehicles of this model year will experience these issues, and many owners have reported trouble-free ownership. However, if you're considering purchasing a 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan, it's essential to be aware of these potential problems and budget accordingly for any necessary repairs.

- VIN: 1B4GP44R1VB
- Components: EQUIPMENT,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: TWO PROBLEMS EXIST WITH OUR GRAND CARAVAN--THE 1ST ONE, I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WOULD BE UNDER THE COMPUTER ASPECTS OF THE VAN OR NOT, BUT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON FOR ONE SWIPE WHENEVER THEY WANT TO DO SO. WE TOOK THE VAN IN SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE AND THEY SUPPOSIDLY PUT A PART ON IT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT DID NOT WORK, IT WAS DONE ONCE OR TWICE MORE AND TO NO AVAIL IT STILL SWEEPS THE WINDSHIELD AT RANDOM TIMES WITH THE SWITCH NOT IN THE ONE POSITION. WE HAVE HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM FROM OTHER DODGE GRAND CARAVAN OWNERS BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN THE ISSUE ADDRESSED. THE 2ND PROBLEM IS THAT THE HEADLIGHT COVERS ON THE FRONT OF THE VAN ARE VERY DISCOLOURED--TO THE POINT OF BEING YELLOW--THIS HAS NOT ONLY HAPPENED TO US, BUT TO MY SECRETARY'S DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. IT SURE MAKES FOR DULLER LIGHT WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON. IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF OTHER PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THANK YOU FOR YOU ATTENTION INTO THIS MATTER.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2002-11-09
- VIN: 1B4GH44R5SX
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: THERE IS A STRUCTURAL WEAKNESS IN THE FRONT DOORS OF DODGE/CHRYSLER MINIVANS THAT CAUSES DOOR FAILURE. THE DOORS BECOME IMPROPERLY ALIGNED WITH THE DOOR FRAME, MAKING THEM DIFFICULT OR IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE. THE DOOR ALSO FAILS TO LATCH PROPERLY AS A RESULT OF MISALIGNMENT. THIS CAN CAUSE THE DOOR TO FLY OPEN SUDDENLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, PARTICULARLY WHEN TURNING A CORNER. IT HAPPENED TO ME, BUT FORTUNATELY MY PASSENGER WAS WEARING HIS SEATBELT AND WAS NOT THROWN OUT OF THE CAR. OTHERS MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY. TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO, WHEN THE DOORS ON MY 1995 GRAND CARAVAN BEGAN TO FAIL, I WENT TO AN AUTOBODY SHOP FOR REPAIR, THINKING IT WAS A SIMPLE MATTER OF REPAIRING WELDS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DOOR HAD BEEN REPAIRED BEFORE (BY A PREVIOUS OWNER). I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT MY LOCAL DODGE/CHRYSLER DEALER HAS REPAIRED MANY DOORS, SO THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY, AT LEAST IN THE CASE OF MY VEHICLE, THE DOORS WERE BRAISED, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE, I UNDERSTAND, TO WELD THEM. IT LOOKS TO ME AS IF THE ONLY LASTING REPAIR WOULD INVOLVE REINFORCING THE DOOR FRAME, WHICH WOULD INVOLVE EXTENSIVE BODY WORK. MY DOORS ARE FAILING AGAIN, AND I WANT A FIX THAT WILL LAST! IT SCARES ME TO DRIVE THE CAR, BECAUSE I'M AFRAID I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF IT IN AN EMERGENCY. *NLM

You've got yourself a great car that drives well and comes with an excellent warranty. We're thrilled that you're happy with it!

I've been dreaming of owning a Caravan since 1988, when I first drove cross-country from California to Connecticut. Finally, after fourteen years, I got my hands on one. It has been a reliable companion for five years, but lately, I've been experiencing some issues with the interior lighting system, transmission, and headlights. Despite these problems, it still runs smoothly, with 203,000 miles on the odometer. However, I'm now considering getting a newer model, as I've heard from friends and relatives that Dodge has continued to improve their Caravans over the years.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with a car I've had for a while. I bought a loaded 3.8L LE 2 years used and it has been a great car for my family. It has been driven a lot, first by my family and then as my daily driver for a few years. Recently, my teenage son has been driving it for 1.5 years. While it's sad to part with it, we're excited for my son to upgrade. This car has been a real workhorse and has been generally very reliable. It always started and ran smoothly and quietly, even to this day. We did have to rebuild the transmission at 70K miles, but it's still going strong at 225K miles. The AC did go out about a year ago, but otherwise, very little went wrong. I was surprised to see other reviews dinging this vehicle, as they were all submitted when the car was 10 years old! What do you expect? Most other 10-year-old cars are in the junkyard or some canal somewhere by now.

I bought this van when it was 5 years old and had 109,000 miles on it. Since Jan 2001, and up to June 2003, I have put 198,000 miles on it. Although I had to replace the serpentine belt, a water pump, and the driver's CV boot needs replacing, it has given me very reliable service. I understand that the hinge on the driver's door needed welded, but the sheet metal gave way around the hinge, which is not uncommon. This van has been our main family vehicle, and we are planning to buy another Grand Caravan when we decide we want something a little newer.

The van has been fantastic for eight years. It has great power and hauling capabilities, making it a super family vehicle.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my van. I've had it since it was almost new, first as a company van and then I purchased it for personal use. I'm happy to report that even with 162500 miles on it, it still has the original engine and transmission! In the last 4 years, I've only had to replace the battery, tires, and rims, and just this month I had to replace the EGR valve and get a tune-up. Not bad at all for a 7-8 year old van with that many miles on it! I feel confident enough to take it on a long road trip from FL to Chicago and back again. Thanks for listening, John C.

The grand caravan fitted my need ok. The capacity is great. The engine I have had no problems except having to replace an engine mount. However, the suspension is very poor, making it feel like you're driving a truck, and it rocks horribly for a van. Additionally, the side door doesn't work right and needs constant repair due to design flaws. In my opinion, a better buy would be to get an Aerostar, which is much better.

I recently had some issues with my vehicle that were quite frustrating. The brakes, transmission, and ignition all failed, and the engine was not running smoothly. Additionally, the driver door hinge and latch had some issues, and the interior was falling apart. I ended up deciding to purchase a new Honda Odyssey, which I am very happy with!

I've had my van for 6 years now, and it's been a reliable companion. The 3.3L automatic engine served us well for 4 years. However, recently the transmission failed at 92,000 miles, and it cost me $1,600 to fix it. Despite this setback, I still feel fortunate. While it's true that Dodge doesn't build vehicles to last, I've had good experiences with Chrysler products in the past. Overall, I'm satisfied with my van and the service it has provided me.

The van was fine for about the first year. However, during the next summer, the air conditioning started having problems, and unfortunately, the same issue occurred every summer thereafter. I was informed by my car repair shop that caravans are notorious for having air conditioning problems, and once the van experiences these issues, they tend to persist year after year, costing a lot of money. At just over 100,000 miles, the transmission failed, which was quite surprising. Later, I discovered that transmissions are also known to fail on caravans. Additionally, the paint started to peel. As someone who took good care of the van, I am very disappointed. I have decided to switch back to a Toyota!
