Bmw X5 problems
The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. At launch, it featured all-wheel drive and was available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The second generation was launched in 2006, and was known internally as the E70. The E70 featured the torque-split capable xDrive all-wheel drive system mated to an automatic gearbox. In 2009, the X5 M performance variant was released as a 2010 model.
BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions. The X5 signaled a shift away from the utilisation of body-on-frame construction, in favour of more modern monocoque chassis construction. Although the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced more than a year prior to the X5, the X5 was the first to utilise a monocoque chassis. The M-Class used body-on-frame construction until its second generation.
The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.
The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

Latest positive Bmw X5 car reviews

Vehicle year: 2011
(Previously leased a 2003 X5 and 2008 X5 4.8i). This X5 is definitely my favorite, although the premium sound system is not as good as my 2008 X5. The NAV system has been improved, but it may take some time to get used to. The cargo space is decent and the back-up camera is great, showing an actual image of the vehicle from above and in the rear. However, the fuel economy at 13.5 MPG average is unacceptable and the lower engine acceleration for city driving is annoyingly sluggish.

Vehicle year: 2005
I bought my car used when it was 9 years old and had 90,000 miles on it. It has had its ups and downs, but I've grown to love it. Unfortunately, it started smoking after idling for a minute or so, which made me quite unpopular at fast food drive-thrus! One day, a young man in a parking lot asked me if my car smoked at idle. I was amazed that he asked, but he turned out to be a BMW mechanic. He told me that this particular engine had a head gasket issue which would cause the car to smoke at 100,000 miles. My car had 101,000 miles on it. The repair would have cost $2500, so I decided to look at used cars instead. However, after test driving several cars for a couple of weeks, I realized that none of them had the features, comfort, or sportiness of my car. So, I decided to get it fixed instead. It was cheaper to fix than to buy a new one. I asked the mechanic if there were any other issues that I needed to be concerned about. He said that at 150,000 miles, the transmission would have some shifting issues. Sure enough, at 151,000 miles, it happened. I got that fixed and asked about any other future problems. He said that he didn't know of any. I plan on keeping this car until it's completely beyond hope. I love the way it looks, its awesome handling, acceleration, and comfort. It's 15 years old now, and I still love my car!

Vehicle year: 2009
I really enjoy the diesel note at idle, it reminds me of my time in Europe. Although, I can't hear it at speed. The dual sequential turbo provides a surprising punch and it feels best at 80 mph. At that rate, it gets an honest 26 mpg, while in town it gets 17/18. Unfortunately, the electronics are suspect. Sometimes the clock won't boot and the nav screen won't come up. However, I had three Nav heads installed on warranty and it's probably fixed now. I did have an alternator go out, which took three weeks to get a replacement, but the dealer made a courtesy payment! With all those gears, it can be hard for the transmission to select medium takeoff velocity, but easy is fine and if you stomp on it, it flies. The middle is hard to attain. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this car and will probably trade it before the warranty expires.

Vehicle year: 2007
The X5 with the V8 has great acceleration and a nice growl. Although the ride is noticeably harsher than our MB GL450, it doesn't exhibit excessive body roll. On worn highways, I often try to drive to the side to get a smoother ride. I regret getting the side aluminum running boards as they make it much more difficult to get in and out. While many reviews say the iDrive is easy to learn, I wish BMW would add more dedicated buttons. The GL450 is much easier to use to access the map, radio, etc.

Vehicle year: 2004
The vehicle is really fun to zip around in, and while the ride is a bit stiff and sporty compared to other luxury SUVs, it still provides a great driving experience. Unfortunately, I did have some trouble with the AC breaking down three times during the first year, which was frustrating, especially in the hot Texas weather. However, once the issue was resolved, I have had a very positive experience overall with the vehicle. The standard audio system for this vehicle could use some improvement, as it is not up to par with other vehicles in this category.

Vehicle year: 2012
I have a 2012 X5 SUV that I've taken great care of, keeping it in the garage for most of the time. Recently, I received a yellow warning light indicating that the engine temperature was high and that I should stop driving the car. Unfortunately, the yellow light turned red and the car slowed to a crawl. I had to have it towed to the dealer where I was informed that the coolant pump had failed and that it would cost $1725.00 plus tax to repair. Although my car had only done 24,100 miles, it was out of warranty, and BMW was unable to offer any assistance. While I understand that I was out of warranty, I was disappointed that BMW was unable to help me out. I have owned many BMWs in the past, and my family owns some too, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend them. Customer service at the top is non-existent, and they show that they do not care about anything outside of the warranty. I hope that BMW can improve their customer service in the future.

I wish I had listened to Scotty Kilmer before purchasing this car. Unfortunately, it has had several breakdowns due to poor quality parts. I appreciate Honda's reliability and will likely stick with them in the future.
Ed Pouros 2024-11-25
Vehicle year: 2001
Although this truck was initially enjoyable to drive, it required dealer service a staggering 20 times within three years of purchase. From battery discharge in the winter to quirky electronic issues, the vehicle was plagued with problems. Despite the drivetrain being capable of towing a trailer within the rated load, the subframe bent from the tongue load. Additionally, the cupholders were poorly designed and could only hold one cup at a time, which was later corrected with an aftermarket cupholder. Due to the frequent dealer visits and lack of confidence, I did not feel comfortable driving it to remote locations, such as Canada, as I had originally intended. As a result, I opted to purchase a used Jeep for those long-distance trips, as it provided me with greater peace of mind.
Monty Hayes 2024-11-24
Vehicle year: 2021
The car has less than 9000 miles and unfortunately experienced a loss of power while on a bridge, resulting in a dangerous situation that required me to pull over. After being towed, it was discovered that there was a fault in the drive train, which was caused by two of the eight batteries being faulty from the factory. Despite BMW's efforts, the issue has yet to be resolved after four days. As a result of this experience, I have lost confidence in BMW and will not be purchasing from them again.
Austen Huels 2024-11-21
Vehicle year: 2005
I have owned my 2002 X5 since it was new. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with overheating at 3000 miles and the entire HVAC unit had to be replaced due to water flooding the interior at 17000 miles. Additionally, I have noticed a 5mph error (slow) in the speedometer, which the dealer explained was inherent in BMWs. The I/P center stack and console have some rattling issues, which the dealer has not been able to repair yet. I have also noticed that the headlamps dim when I use the heated seats. The steering can feel heavy and difficult in tight, low-speed turning. Overall, I would not recommend this car to anyone.
