Bmw X5 problems

bmw logo

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. At launch, it featured all-wheel drive and was available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The second generation was launched in 2006, and was known internally as the E70. The E70 featured the torque-split capable xDrive all-wheel drive system mated to an automatic gearbox. In 2009, the X5 M performance variant was released as a 2010 model.

BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions. The X5 signaled a shift away from the utilisation of body-on-frame construction, in favour of more modern monocoque chassis construction. Although the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced more than a year prior to the X5, the X5 was the first to utilise a monocoque chassis. The M-Class used body-on-frame construction until its second generation.

The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.

The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

I previously owned a 328is which was an amazing car. This positive experience led me to purchase a used 2006 X5 4.4i with very low mileage, thinking it was a safe bet. Unfortunately, we have experienced non-stop troubles, expenses, and wasted time at the shop during the 18 months of ownership. The latest issue has taken BMW 8 months and 5 trips to the dealer to determine the cause of the coolant leak, and we still aren't 100% sure. They are now considering replacing the heads or even the entire engine. It's been a frustrating experience, and I am disappointed to say that I will not be purchasing a BMW again. It's a shame because they are known as the ultimate driving machine, but in this case, it's been more like the ultimate driving machine to the shop.

The drive train is functional, but it can be quite costly to maintain and has some engineering flaws. The accessories are of low quality and have a high rate of failure, which can be expensive to replace. The electronics have some programming issues and a high rate of failure. It would be more satisfactory if the drive train was paired with a better vehicle. Unfortunately, a lot of money was spent for little gain.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my BMW car. I have a short commute of 18 miles to work, and I charge my car at each end of my commute. During my drive, I use electric mode only until it runs out of electricity (usually 12-14 miles), and then switch to gas for the last few miles. According to the BMW app, which monitors my car's performance each trip, I regularly get an impressive 130-150 miles per gallon during my commute! However, when I use my car for other purposes, the mileage drops significantly. On all gas, I get about 24 mpg. But if it's a combination of commuting to work and going away for the weekend (with no charging over the weekend), it appears that I average in the low 30's overall. So, if you have a short commute and are willing to charge at both ends, you can achieve amazing mileage! Otherwise, it's probably not worth the hassle of dealing with the electric. As a comparison, in my Lexus Hybrid SUV, I averaged in the high 20's with no external charging. Thanks for reading!

After trying several luxury SUV's from other manufacturers, I decided to give the BMW X5 a chance. Unfortunately, it hasn't been the best experience. While it was enjoyable to drive at first, it has spent more time in the shop than on the road since I purchased it several months ago. While I understand that every car can have its issues, I have been disappointed with the service department's attitude and lack of understanding. I hope that they can improve their customer service in the future.

I received my X5 4.4L V8 in January 2012 and I must say, the performance and body design of this vehicle are truly awesome. The interior layout and iDrive system are equally impressive. However, I have been experiencing some issues with the rear entertainment system. Although the DVD player activates when I initially place a DVD in the player (when the vehicle is on), it does not resume play using the DVD play button. Additionally, the DVD player volume control button does not work. I contacted one of the local BMW service departments and they informed me that the problem is a software issue and that BMW is currently working on a solution. I appreciate their help and hope to have this resolved soon.

I'm glad to hear that you've never had any issues with your 2009 car. It's great to know that you were satisfied with the recent replacement of the left front headlight. It sounds like you really enjoy driving it, especially the steering and the way it hugs the road. The pickup is impressive too! It's no wonder your friend is considering getting one. The car feels tight and safe, which is always a top priority. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with me!

Great car! The interior is spacious and roomy, and it drives like a dream. The handling is excellent, and it's surprisingly quiet despite the sports package and large 315 20” tires. With lots of power and torque, it's one of the fastest SUVs you can get. Plus, it gets good gas mileage for a 5300+ lb vehicle (depending on driving style). On a long trip with 5 adults, we averaged 20-21 MPG. Overall, it's a fantastic choice!

I am so impressed with how good the X5 is! It's a completely different vehicle to the old shape and, to my surprise (I didn't think it was possible to improve on that one), it's much, much better too. The iDrive can be a little tricky at first, but it's child's play once you get the hang of it. I test drove the Audi Q7 before and it drove like a tank with noticeable gear changes. All in all, I think this is a great 4x4. I would definitely recommend it, but then again, mine was made in Germany.

I purchased the 2022 BMW X5 45e a while ago and opted for every available option. Having previously owned a 2018 Audi Q5, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with the X5. It is a well-rounded vehicle with impressive electric capabilities. In city driving, I consistently get 40-45 miles on a full charge and have only used a single tank of gas so far, even on a 300-mile highway trip with no charging stations. In hybrid mode, I get around 35 mpg on exclusive highway driving, which is also quite quick. The infotainment system is well-integrated and intuitive, unlike the Audi MMI, and the voice commands work perfectly. The BMW assistant is also very impressive. The digital key works great with my Apple devices. The ride is very comfortable, especially with air suspension, and it's fun to drive in hybrid and sport mode. The electric-only mode is more suitable for slower city driving. The interior is luxurious and gorgeous, with supple merino leather that is very comfortable. The breaking capability is also very impressive, especially with the larger M sports breaks that I opted for. However, the 240V Level 2 charger is limited to 16 amps, which means it takes 4-6 hours to fully charge. BMW could have pushed for 32 amps. The rear seats are a bit straight and uncomfortable for longer journeys, but kids seem to be happy with them. As someone who is 6'3I agree that the 45e is a better option than the 40i version. The steering response is better, and the drive is more engaging, which makes it perfect for daily driving needs. Additionally, with the $7500 federal credit available, it's a great deal. Overall, BMW has done an excellent job with this vehicle. It's the perfect choice for those who drive less than 50 miles a day and need extra power for weekend driving in the mountains.
