Bmw X5 problems

bmw logo

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. At launch, it featured all-wheel drive and was available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The second generation was launched in 2006, and was known internally as the E70. The E70 featured the torque-split capable xDrive all-wheel drive system mated to an automatic gearbox. In 2009, the X5 M performance variant was released as a 2010 model.

BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions. The X5 signaled a shift away from the utilisation of body-on-frame construction, in favour of more modern monocoque chassis construction. Although the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced more than a year prior to the X5, the X5 was the first to utilise a monocoque chassis. The M-Class used body-on-frame construction until its second generation.

The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.

The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

I confidently recommend upgrading to a 2023 X5 with all the latest features, as it is a reliable and impressive vehicle. However, I must express my disappointment with my current 2 1/2 month old X5, which has only covered 1300 miles and has already required two repairs due to a parasitic system draining the battery overnight. Today, the car was completely dead. This experience has been frustrating and has led me to question the quality of the car and the service provided by the dealer. I hope that BMW can address these issues and improve their customer service, as I am hesitant to consider purchasing another BMW in the future.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my BMW X5 that I bought a few years ago. As a loyal BMW owner since my first 2002 back in the late 70s, I've had pretty good luck through the years. However, with this particular car, I've had a few issues such as the transmission going out at 75K, the tail light housing needing replacement so the lights don't continue to go out, and some problems with the oil changes. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the quality of BMW cars. However, I'm considering trying out a Lexus for my next car. Thank you for listening to my experience!

I recently purchased the new X5 at a great price, just a few hundred over invoice and factoring in the $2500 rebate. While I had high expectations for the vehicle's performance and handling, as I had previously owned a BMW 330i with ZHP, I was unfortunately disappointed. However, I did find that the X5 is similar in performance and handling to my outgoing 2001 MDX. I also noticed some issues with the turning radius and gaps in the doors that allowed dirt to enter. Additionally, the tires are run-flat only and can be quite expensive to replace, as BMW does not allow for repairs. Overall, I still appreciate the great deal I received on the X5 and am enjoying the vehicle despite these minor issues.

My daughter was really drawn to the styling of this car, so I decided to buy it for her. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best experience with the dealership (Autobahn Motors in Fort Worth) and their service department. Despite being a one-owner car that appeared to be well taken care of, we've had a lot of issues with it since purchasing it in 2009 with 48,000 miles on it. Recently, the low coolant light came on and we took it to the dealer. They initially thought it was just a busted radiator cap, but unfortunately, the light came back on and the SUV stopped running. We had to take it to a Dallas dealership where they discovered a cracked reservoir, which ended up being quite expensive to fix.

I purchased a 07 BMW X5 40i for 22k. Unfortunately, problems started occurring during the first week of ownership and continued to arise every week for the next three months. Despite spending 12k out of pocket on repairs, not including the additional 6k covered by the warranty, I have just discovered another issue that will cost 4k to fix. Regrettably, this car has caused me nothing but pain and stress. I have not been able to drive it for two months without it needing to be serviced. While I am still paying off the loan, I no longer have any use for this vehicle and would advise others to steer clear of it.

Congratulations on your new purchase! You've got yourself a very clean 2004 3.0 6 cylinder BMW X5 with only 95k miles on it. It drives like new and has great handling, getting an impressive 20mpg combined city and highway. While the computer screen unfortunately has some sunspots, it's good to know that the vehicle can handle highways and rough areas with ease. Although BMW parts can be expensive to replace, it's reassuring to know that they can be easily obtained through dealers. The passenger spaces are roomy and comfortable, although the back storage area is a bit limited. Overall, it sounds like you've made a great choice with your new BMW X5!

I absolutely adore my 2010 X5 diesel with 11,000 miles on it! The build quality is top-notch, and I've experienced no defects whatsoever. The performance and comfort are both exceptional. I'm eagerly anticipating the release of the new X5 4.0d in 2011, and I'll definitely be first in line to get one. I love the convenience of an SUV, but I'm also conscious of the environment, which is why I appreciate the clean diesel technology that BMW has incorporated into this vehicle. I did consider the X5 M with its 555hp, but I couldn't justify the gas consumption and pollution. So far, I haven't had any issues with the tires, and for those who are concerned about the spare tire, it's clearly stated in the owner's manual. I've been a loyal BMW X5 owner since 2001, and I must say that this is the best one yet. It's a bit more truck-like than previous models, but it strikes the perfect balance between performance, fuel efficiency, and low emissions.

I love the X5 M50i. There's more to this beauty than meets the eye! The performance is impressive, and it adds functionality for those who prefer an SUV. I don't regret my purchase.

I've owned this car since mid-May and have already put 6,000 miles on it. This is actually my second X5 - I traded in my 2019 model for this one, and I have to say, it's even better than the last. The speed is fantastic - it goes from 0-60 in no time, and the Sport mode makes passing a breeze. The exterior is sleek and sporty, and I'm glad they kept the traditional kidney grill. The interior feels truly luxurious, with new technology that makes it feel like an iPhone. The curved info screen is perfectly visible for both the driver and front passenger, and it's easy to track mpg performance for each trip and overall (I'm achieving about 1.5 mpg above the rating). The ability to customize the instrumentation gives the driver comfort when following map and road directions, and the heads-up display map/direction is easy to read and follow. The ride is very smooth, although I would have preferred regular tires over flat-resistant ones since the latter is a little stiffer. The elimination of the stick-type shifter for a short and small shifter eliminates obstacles for reaching other controls on the middle panel. The reduction of air vents' size reduces clutter while the air stream is not reduced. Finally, you can tell right away that you're in a BMW because everything, like the doors, windows, and body, fits tight and reduces road noise to the max. Well done, BMW engineers, as usual!

I used to have a ML350 bluetec, but I must say that the X5 surpasses it in terms of ride, handling, and performance, not to mention better MPG. Although the X5 falls short in backseat room, specifically legroom, and has a slightly smaller cargo area, it is still a great luxury SUV. I do think that some of the options on the X5 should be standard. If you are not familiar with diesel, you will hardly notice the difference compared to a typical gasoline engine. X5 owners with a gasoline model will notice the difference, but it is important to note that the diesel is not lacking in any way. Despite the price, it is a good value for the money, and I have been extremely satisfied with it for the past 8 months.
