- Summary: MY X5 HAS BEEN A FAIRLY RELIABLE VEHICLE WITH SOME QUIRKINESS ALONG THE WAY. I HAD A "CROSSOVER PIPE" TO START LEAKING COOLANT. THE THING TO LOOK FOR IS IF YOU OPEN YOUR HOOD, AND LOOK IN THE CENTER OF THE ENGINE (FROM THE FRONT), THERE IS A SMALL HOLE. COOLANT WILL COLLECT AND POUR OUT OF THAT HOLE ONTO THE GROUND. THE FIX THROUGH BMW IS ANYWHERE FROM $9000-$10,000.00; IF YOU ARE GOING TO ALLOW BMW TO REPLACE THE PART AND LABOR CHARGES WITH SOME PARTS. WHAT HAPPENS IS OVER TIME THE SEALS GO BACK IN THIS PART, AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO IT IS TO OPEN YOUR ENTIRE ENGINE, TO REPLACE THE PIPE. I WENT TO A LOCAL CAR SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN FOREIGN VEHICLE REPAIR NAMED KELLY MOSS MOTOR SPORTS NEAR MADISON WISCONSIN, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THIS JOB FOR UNDER $3000.00. THEY DID FANTASTIC WORK, AND MY VEHICLE HAS NOT LEAKED SINCE! THIS PART WILL EVENTUALLY GO BAD, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A CLIMATE WITH CONSTANT HOT TEMPS OR EXTREME WEATHER THAT GOES FROM HOT TO COLD (BOTH DESTROY THE RUBBER GASKETS IN THIS PIPE). I ALSO WAS GOING TO WORK AND LOST ALL MY COOLANT, THE WATER PUMP AND COOLANT PIPE NEED REPLACED/REPAIRED WHICH IS NOT A CHEAP JOB..IT IS MORE THAN THE VALUE/COST OF THIS VEHICLE(IF DONE AT A BMW DEALER). THESE ISSUES ARE KNOWN AND VERY COMMON. BMW SHOULD ISSUE RECALLS FOR THESE PROBLEMS OR GIVE ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIRS INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY MAKING EXCUSES AND GIVING REASONS ON WHY THEY WILL NOT HELP! I HAVE BEEN AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO ANYTHING I CAN TO GET ASSISTANCE FOR MY REPAIRS AND HOPEFULLY MANY OTHERS. - Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES WITH 3.0 L ENGINES AND MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, IF THE VEHICLE IS IN FIRST GEAR, AND MOVING SLOWLY, WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HELD IN A CONSTANT POSITION OF LOW ENGINE SPEED AND WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL HELD IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION, ENGINE SPEED MAY INCREASE.

- Consequence: WITH PROLONGED DRIVING, THESE BOLTS COULD BECOME LOOSE, CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOUSINGS. THE RIGHT OUTPUT SHAFT COULD BECOME DISCONNECTED, AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Our vehicle has unfortunately been a nightmare for the past 3 years. In the first 6 months, we experienced a dead battery and were stranded. Since then, we have had to replace the battery 4 times, including today. Additionally, we have had issues with a squeaking steering wheel, thumping suspension, broken climate control (twice), replacing door handles and power locks (three times), and a stuck driver's side window. It is our belief that this vehicle should have been built in Germany, like the rest of BMW.

The vehicle is really fun to zip around in, and while the ride is a bit stiff and sporty compared to other luxury SUVs, it still provides a great driving experience. Unfortunately, I did have some trouble with the AC breaking down three times during the first year, which was frustrating, especially in the hot Texas weather. However, once the issue was resolved, I have had a very positive experience overall with the vehicle. The standard audio system for this vehicle could use some improvement, as it is not up to par with other vehicles in this category.

This BMW X5 has been the best SUV that we have ever driven so far. It's safe and stable enough to make us feel comfortable and worry-free even in bad weather.

The first car I owned was better than this one. Although it is hard to improve, there are some minor adjustments to be made. I think maybe the transmission is slipping or just isn't as responsive as it should be, it may need a bigger one. Additionally, there are blind spots in the rear, which can be inconvenient if the mirrors aren't adjusted perfectly. If you choose the navigation system and a 6 changer CD, the CD cannot be put in the glove compartment, but has to be in the rear, which is a bit inconvenient. The back-up beeping can be a bit bothersome, so it would be great to have a cut-off switch that's not event-related. Overall, I just seem a bit disappointed with it.

I wish I had listened to Scotty Kilmer before purchasing this car. Unfortunately, it has had several breakdowns due to poor quality parts. I appreciate Honda's reliability and will likely stick with them in the future.

The car has had several issues since it was new, including carburetion problems and poor sensor system leading to premature brake pad replacement. Additionally, the sunroof hoses were pinched during assembly, causing water to fill the front floor wells. The wiring boxes were also filled with water, leading to corroded junctions and malfunctioning rear tail lights. Despite these challenges, we have been able to source the necessary parts and make the required trips to keep the car running smoothly.

While BMW is a well-known name in luxury cars, the X5 falls a bit short. It would be great if some of the options that come with a hefty price tag were included as standard on such an expensive vehicle. However, the BMW is very responsive with handling and acceleration/braking.
