The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

THE THING TO LOOK FOR IS IF YOU OPEN YOUR HOOD, AND LOOK IN THE CENTER OF THE ENGINE (FROM THE FRONT), THERE IS A SMALL HOLE. COOLANT WILL COLLECT AND POUR OUT OF THAT HOLE ONTO THE GROUND. THE FIX THROUGH BMW IS ANYWHERE FROM $9000-$10,000.00; IF YOU ARE GOING TO ALLOW BMW TO REPLACE THE PART AND LABOR CHARGES WITH SOME PARTS. WHAT HAPPENS IS OVER TIME THE SEALS GO BACK IN THIS PART, AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO IT IS TO OPEN YOUR ENTIRE ENGINE, TO REPLACE THE PIPE. I WENT TO A LOCAL CAR SHOP THAT SPECIALIZES IN FOREIGN VEHICLE REPAIR NAMED KELLY MOSS MOTOR SPORTS NEAR MADISON WISCONSIN, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO DO THIS JOB FOR UNDER $3000.00. THEY DID FANTASTIC WORK, AND MY VEHICLE HAS NOT LEAKED SINCE! THIS PART WILL EVENTUALLY GO BAD, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A CLIMATE WITH CONSTANT HOT TEMPS OR EXTREME WEATHER THAT GOES FROM HOT TO COLD (BOTH DESTROY THE RUBBER GASKETS IN THIS PIPE).   • Consequence: WITH PROLONGED DRIVING, THESE BOLTS COULD BECOME LOOSE, CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION HOUSINGS. THE RIGHT OUTPUT SHAFT COULD BECOME DISCONNECTED, AFFECTING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

    Our vehicle has unfortunately been a nightmare for the past 3 years. In the first 6 months, we experienced a dead battery and were stranded. Since then, we have had to replace the battery 4 times, including today. Additionally, we have had issues with a squeaking steering wheel, thumping suspension, broken climate control (twice), replacing door handles and power locks (three times), and a stuck driver's side window. It is our belief that this vehicle should have been built in Germany, like the rest of BMW.

    The vehicle is really fun to zip around in, and while the ride is a bit stiff and sporty compared to other luxury SUVs, it still provides a great driving experience. Unfortunately, I did have some trouble with the AC breaking down three times during the first year, which was frustrating, especially in the hot Texas weather. However, once the issue was resolved, I have had a very positive experience overall with the vehicle. The standard audio system for this vehicle could use some improvement, as it is not up to par with other vehicles in this category.

    The first car I owned was better than this one. Although it is hard to improve, there are some minor adjustments to be made. I think maybe the transmission is slipping or just isn't as responsive as it should be, it may need a bigger one. Additionally, there are blind spots in the rear, which can be inconvenient if the mirrors aren't adjusted perfectly. If you choose the navigation system and a 6 changer CD, the CD cannot be put in the glove compartment, but has to be in the rear, which is a bit inconvenient. The back-up beeping can be a bit bothersome, so it would be great to have a cut-off switch that's not event-related. Overall, I just seem a bit disappointed with it.
