2006 Bmw X5 problems
The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. At launch, it featured all-wheel drive and was available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The second generation was launched in 2006, and was known internally as the E70. The E70 featured the torque-split capable xDrive all-wheel drive system mated to an automatic gearbox. In 2009, the X5 M performance variant was released as a 2010 model.
BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions. The X5 signaled a shift away from the utilisation of body-on-frame construction, in favour of more modern monocoque chassis construction. Although the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced more than a year prior to the X5, the X5 was the first to utilise a monocoque chassis. The M-Class used body-on-frame construction until its second generation.
The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.
The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

Common 2006 Bmw X5 problems
The BMW X5 2006, also known as the E70, is a luxurious SUV known for its driving dynamics and timeless styling. However, like any vehicle, it has its common problems.
One of the most prevalent issues with the BMW X5 E70 is engine stalls. Owners have reported that their vehicle would stall while on the road, with some instances occurring at low speeds and others while driving fast. This problem can be traced back to the fuel system, where the fuel pump and injection system may fail, leading to stalling and loss of power.
Another common problem is interior leakage, specifically from the sunroof. The sunroof's drain tubes tend to malfunction, causing water to leak into the interior and potentially damage the electronics on the front. This issue can be particularly problematic in areas with heavy rainfall.
Transmission issues are also a concern for BMW X5 E70 owners. Some model years have experienced problems with the transmission, leading to erratic handling and knocking noises from the undercarriage. Suspension and subframe bushing wear can also occur, especially in high-mileage vehicles. These issues can manifest as early as 30,000 miles and may require costly repairs.
Electrical problems are another area where the BMW X5 E70 has faced criticism. Electrical faults are the most common issue, followed by problems with the brakes and fuel system. While repairs are usually quick and straightforward, they can still add up, leading to higher repair bills.
In summary, the BMW X5 E70 has several common problems, including engine stalls, interior leakage, transmission issues, suspension and subframe bushing wear, and electrical faults. While these issues can be concerning, they are not uncommon for vehicles in this class. Proper maintenance and regular inspections can help mitigate these problems and ensure a more reliable ownership experience.

AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-24
- VIN: 5uxfa13506l
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEATS
- Summary: This car has relatively few miles (85k), and has always been operated by a single person. The passenger seat cushion has a sensor mat that activates the passenger airbag. With relatively fewer miles and very few passengers, the passenger seat didn't experience the normal use as likely modeled by BMW. However, during the fall of 2020, (during the height of covid), a warning light stating the passenger air bag had a malfunction. We were in the midst of nursing and the warning light then went out during the first three months of 2021. When it came on again in May, 2021, I asked BMW about it as was told, "That's Campaign 13V-564. The front passenger airbag seat occupancy sensor mat isn't working. This means, if there's an accident, the airbag protecting the passenger won't deploy." Apparently there as a "safety check" on this in 2014 and the recall closed as of January 2021....so, I was four months past the expiration date of their safety check for this important malfunctioning seat cushion. As advised by a BMW representative, I requested "goodwill assistance" with covering all or some of this repair (estimated at approx $2k). I was just told that BMW will not provide any goodwill assistance with this and there is apparently no one within BMW Customer Relations I can escalate this to. So, I am reaching-out to the NHTSA in hopes someone can assist me in navigating this. It seems to me, an important safety item such as a passenger sensor for airbag deployment on a car with fewer miles (and passengers) than average, experiencing a brief warning that didn't repeat during covid when we were unable to get to a BMW dealership, and for a "safety check" issue that just ended prior to us contacting BMW to repair is something I don't think BMW should be able to dodge.

Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V564000 (Air Bags) however, the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. - Summary: I PURCHASED A 2006 X5 4.4I (N62B44 ENGINE)USED WITH 138,000 MILES. WENT TO LEAVE DRIVEWAY, CAR WAS IN REVERSE, PRESSES BRAKES TO ADJUST MIRRORS, LET OFF TO KEEP BACKING OUT, HAD TO PRESS AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ADJUSTMENT, I LOOKED UP AND I WAS DRIVING THROUGH THE BUSHES IN MY FRONT YARD. BRAKES WERE PUSHED BUT NOT ENGAGING. I THOUGHT THAT TO BE ODD, SO I WANTED TO RUN TO A CERTIFIED BMW REPAIR FACILITY. I WAS IN TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 40 AND HAD TO UTILIZE THE BREAKS AGAIN, THE CAR STOPPED. WITHIN ONE MINUTE I HAD TO PRESS AGAIN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP, I PUMPED THE BREAKS AND THE PEDAL WAS SO HARD THERE WAS NO GIVE. I PLOWED THROUGH A RED LIGHT ALMOST CAUSING A SEVERAL CAR PILE UP, AND WAS FINALLY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. AT THE REPAIR SHOP, I WAS TOLD THE VACUUM PUMP WAS LEAKING OIL EVERYWHERE BECAUSE IT WAS BUSTED, THE OIL WAS BACKING UP INTO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND HAD MIXED WITH THE BREAK FLUID AND THE BREAK BOOSTER WAS BAD. I AM HAVING TO PAY 2400 FOR THE SERVICE WHEN IT WAS JUST PURCHASED 3 DAYS AGO. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON AT TIME OF PURCHASE WHICH WOULD HAVE KEPT ME FROM PURCHASING WITH CASH. THERE ARE STILL NO WARNING LIGHTS ALTHOUGH I HAVE TAKEN DOWN SEVERAL BUSHES BECAUSE THE X5 WOULD NOT STOP AND ALMOST CAUSED A HEAD ON COLLISION BECAUSE THE X5 WOULD NOT STOP AGAIN. THE 2007 X5 HAS BEEN RECALLED TO THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE EXACT SAME DIAGNOSIS AND SYMPTOMS, THE 5 SERIES FROM THAT YEAR WAS ALSO RECALLED. JUST NOT THE X5 DUE TO AN OBVIOUS OVERSITE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS VEHICLE WHEN IT IS OPERATED WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. THE VACUUM PUMP, BREAK BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER ARE ALL PART OF THE RECALL, WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT A BMW CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATED NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON MINE. I

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-03-23
- VIN: 5UXFA93596L
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: BMW X5 BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP AND NOTICED THAT THE TRUCK NEEDED MORE BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE THE LONGER I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE PEDAL BEGAN TO RISE AND THE TRUCK WOULD BEGIN TO CREEP FORWARD UNLESS MORE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE PEDAL. I DROVE TO THE BMW DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A RECALL PERFORMED ON THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY MAT. DURING THAT VISIT I INFORMED THE SERVICE WRITER OF THE BRAKE ISSUE AND ASKED IF IT WOULD BE CORRECTED UNDER A RECALL AS WELL. I WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY OTHER RECALLS. I RESEARCHED IT AND FOUND THAT SOME BMW X5'S WE'RE EXPERIENCING SOME ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES AND WERE BEING RECALLED BUT NOT MY VEHICLE. I ORDERED ALL NECESSARY PARTS AND REPLACED THEM MYSELF. WHICH CONSISTED OF A NEW UPDATED PUMP, ALL UPDATED OEM LINES WITH CHECK VALVES AND A NEW TRW OEM BRAKE BOOSTER. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT ENGINE OIL VAPOR TRAVELS INTO THE LINES AND UP TO THE BOOSTER WHICH CAUSED THE RUBBER DIAPHRAM TO FAIL IN THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THESE ARE ALL THE SAME PARTS MENTIONED IN THE RECALLS ON OTHER BMW X5'S COVERED BY THE RECALLS.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-01-21
- VIN: 5UXFA13596L
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: THE CAR SHOWED NO SIGNS OF ANY FAILURES, NO WARNING OR SERVICE LIGHTS, AND AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF A CROWDED PARKING LOT THE CAR STARTED EMITTING WHITE SMOKE OUT OF BOTH TAIL PIPES AND STALLED SUDDENLY. THE CAR WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESTART AND I HAD TO PUSH IT BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT TO AVOID OTHER TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER 10 MINUTES AND AGAIN EMITTED CLOUDS OF HEAVY WHITE SMOKE. AT THIS POINT I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO MY LOCAL BMW DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANK CASE VENT VALVE APPARENTLY FROZE UP AND NEEDS REPLACING. THIS PART ALSO CALLED PCV VALVE HEATER IS UNDER RECALL FOR MODEL YEARS 2007-2011. MY CAR IS A 2006 AND FROM ONLINE SEARCHES IT APPEARS OTHER 2006 AND OLDER BMW X5S ALSO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE IDENTIFIED IN THE RECALL (17V-683, ISSUED IN DEC 2017). I AM TOLD THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE THE CAR TO CATCH FIRE IF CONTINUED IN OPERATION AND EVEN AT IDLE OR OFF. HOW CAN THE RECALL BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER IMPACTED MODEL YEARS?

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your 03, 3.0 and that you're now the proud owner of a 4.4.Sport! The improvements that BMW made to this model are truly impressive. The ride is solid and quiet, and the acceleration is great. I would highly recommend getting the sport package, as the seats are even more comfortable. I understand that driving in NYC can be challenging, but this truck handles the roads unbelievably well. Additionally, BMW has fixed the annoying hatch rattle and made it easier to remove the rear cover. While this truck may be expensive, it's definitely worth the investment. The only downside is that the gas mileage isn't great, but as they say, nothing in life is perfect. If you're on a tight budget, this may not be the best option for you, but I'm sure you'll find something that suits your needs. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car that I've had since it was brand new. It's equipped with Premium, Sport, and Rear Climate Packages, and was produced in October 2005. I've really enjoyed the premium package, especially the luxurious leather and the rear shades that are so convenient! The sport package is also great, but I've noticed that it's better on smooth roads than on rough ones. However, the self-leveling suspension and air shocks that come with it are really impressive. I haven't had to fix anything major, just regular oil changes which were all covered under warranty for the first four years. Now that it's out of warranty, I did have to replace the thermostat, but it wasn't too bad. Overall, I absolutely love driving it!

Hi there! I wanted to share with you my experience with this amazing vehicle. Since I've owned it, I've had the valley pan, panoramic moonroof, and AC headunit serviced, all of which were covered under warranty. The interior is incredibly spacious and comfortable, making it easy to get small children in and out of car seats thanks to the large door openings. While the rear cargo area is somewhat limited, I do appreciate the clamshell hatch. But the real joy of this vehicle is driving it - it handles like a sedan and has plenty of power, always putting a smile on my face. And the styling is simply timeless, subtle yet distinctive. I absolutely love it! Plus, with the CPO warranty, extended service, BMW 2 payments, and 0.9% financing, it was an incredibly attractive purchase. Thanks for listening!

This is undoubtedly the 4WD to have, although it may come with a higher price tag. While I would have given it a perfect reliability score, I did experience a faulty passenger seat sensor that left me without my X5 for 29 days while waiting for a spare part to be ordered from Germany. However, the dealer was incredibly helpful and loaned me a fantastic 530 for the entire duration of the service. They also kept me informed about the situation every day with a very professional and courteous approach.

Congratulations on your second X5! It's great to hear that you loved your first one so much. The X5 is a fantastic car - quiet, smooth, and a joy to drive. It's also the perfect size for your needs and gets surprisingly good mileage. In fact, the on-board computer calculated your three-year mileage at an impressive 21.0 MPG! It's no wonder you didn't even consider another vehicle when your lease was up. You made a great choice signing another three-year lease last December.

As a seven-time BMW owner, I was disappointed to experience issues with both the transmission and sunroof in my 05 X-5. Despite five months of frustrating arguments, the problems were only resolved after replacements were installed. Unfortunately, the same issues persisted in my replacement 06 X-5, leading me to believe that the plates were simply swapped. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this vehicle and will not be purchasing another X-5 in the future.

The N62 (X5 4.4) unfortunately has a valve stem deal issue that can cost up to $4000 to repair. If you search for 'X5 white smoke cloud', you'll find more evidence of this issue. It tends to happen around 130000 miles, which is where I'm at now. If you're looking for a reliable vehicle, it's best to avoid this model and stick with the 6 cylinder. It's a shame that this issue exists, as the car is otherwise awesome. I unfortunately had to spend a lot of money to fix it.

I understand the appeal of the fun to drive and German engineering concept. However, my personal experience with this car has been disappointing. There are several common issues that have been widely discussed in blogs, such as fan clutch, gasket failure, window regulators, taillight failure, and door handles. Unfortunately, BMW did not address these problems during the 6 years that this car was in production. As a result, I do not feel confident taking this car on long trips, as I fear being stranded and facing expensive repairs. Overall, I would not recommend purchasing this car.

This car has some amazing features and looks beautiful. It's also quite fast. However, it's important to note that if the car has over 100k miles, it may require frequent repairs. Unfortunately, I've had to fix mine every week since I bought it six months ago. It's been quite a hassle, with issues ranging from the head gasket to the window regulator. I would recommend purchasing a warranty if you decide to buy one.

Although I have experienced some issues with my BMW, I am confident that the dealership will be able to resolve the problem. I have had to bring it in for repairs a few times, but I trust that the experts at the dealership will be able to fix the issue and get me back on the road. While it has been inconvenient, I am confident that this car will serve me well in the long run.
