2017 Bmw X5 problems

bmw logo

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. At launch, it featured all-wheel drive and was available with either a manual or automatic gearbox. The second generation was launched in 2006, and was known internally as the E70. The E70 featured the torque-split capable xDrive all-wheel drive system mated to an automatic gearbox. In 2009, the X5 M performance variant was released as a 2010 model.

BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions. The X5 signaled a shift away from the utilisation of body-on-frame construction, in favour of more modern monocoque chassis construction. Although the Mercedes-Benz M-Class was introduced more than a year prior to the X5, the X5 was the first to utilise a monocoque chassis. The M-Class used body-on-frame construction until its second generation.

The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.

The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

Upon exiting my vehicle I could hear the air leaking from the tire but a visual inspection did not show any cuts, nails, or punctures. I called Orr and was told to bring the tier/car in. I had to pay ($250) to have the vehicle towed to them and was charged $82 by Orr to mount and balance a replacement tire. I was told that the tire had a cut in it but was never shown. On my way to work this morning and the other tire that was purchased on 02/10/2023 is registering low tire pressure. So it appears that the (2) tires purchased are defective tires!

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-08-14
  • VIN: 5UXKT0C36H0
  • Components: SUSPENSION,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE
  • Summary: Hi, I have bought BMW x5 2017 from certified dealer in Nov 2020. From the beginning, vehicle is giving me problems. I spoke with BMW customer care and they are not helping me much. Below are the problems that vehicle has given me. They are so many other problems but I am noting the major problems. 1. Vibration during acceleration 2. The rear suspension got broke 3. Vehicle stopped on the road while traveling with an infant. Problem they said is fuel is not pumping into engine. They confirmed tank has 3/4th of gas. So that’s the problem with the vehicle. - they left us on the road for 4-5 hours until they tow the car. - my family including 3 months old baby has to get shelter inside a gas station for almost 12 hours until I get a rental car because they didn’t give loaner vehicle or not provided any help to rescue my family to bring to safe location. 4. The air suspension completely broke while traveling from Baton Rouge. Which caused back pain problem to my wife who recently has c-section. I am still dealing with her back pain treatment after that. And they took more than 20 days to repair and give the car back. I got an old Dodge Journey as a loaner from rental agency. Why do I need to pay for luxury car if I have to drive a Dodge Journey. 5. During the problem 3, BMW service center said fuel wasn't pumping into the engine and they said they fixed the issue. Again on August 14th 2022, vehicle was broken due to fuel pumping issue while I was in a city which is 2 hours from where I live. vehicle stopped on highway without any notice. They could have saved me and my family lot of stress and health issues if they supported us well and inspected the vehicle before selling us. They looted our money and played with us emotionally and caused physical and mental damage by doing it. I had to rescue my 3 months old baby because of this vehicle which stopped on high way during hottest season of summer mid June 2021. Your help is much appreciated in this regard.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-01-26
  • VIN: 5UXKR0C31H0
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: Rear tailgate suddenly flew open while driving at a speed of roughly 25 mph without any user input. Car was fully locked and at speed, trunk/tailgate release button was not pushed. The tailgate was fully closed and locked, and there were no warning lights or chimes indicating otherwise. This has only occurred once as of today and has not been able to be replicated, so it is not necessarily "available for inspection upon request". My safety, as well as others, were put at risk by this malfunction as our family dog is often transported in her crate that is located in the trunk, and if this malfunction had occurred while she was back there, her crate could have very easily fallen out of the car at high speed, undoubtedly leading to death. In this same instance, her crate falling out of the trunk at highway speeds, or really anything else being transported in the trunk, could have easily penetrated another car's windshield, resulting in injury or death of another vehicle's inhabitants. As previously stated, this problem has not been able to be reproduced by a dealer or independent service center at the time of this writing. The tailgate has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or any other parties. There were no warning lamps, messages, or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, nor have there been after the fact.

  • Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2013-2018 BMW 328d and 328d xDrive, 2014-2018 328d Sports Wagon and 328d xDrive Sports Wagon, 2014-2016 535d and 535d xDrive, 2015 740Ld xDrive, 2015-2017 X3 xDrive28d SAV and 2014-2017 X5 xDrive35d SAV vehicles equipped with an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module with an integrated cooler. If the EGR cooler leaks internally, the coolant can mix with diesel engine soot. The high EGR temperatures may result in these particles possibly smoldering and melting the intake manifold.
  • Consequence: The melting intake manifold can increase the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the EGR cooler as necessary. If a leak has already occurred, the engine intake manifold will also be replaced. These repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began May 13, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Negative 2017 Bmw X5 car reviews

  1. Allen Gerhold 2025-01-07

I had a disappointing experience with BMW's customer service. After owning a brand new x5 e40 hybrid for 5 years, the charging system and air suspension failed. I was charged over $8000 to fix these issues, which I felt was a high cost for such a short lifespan. I was hoping for a more empathetic response from BMW, especially considering that even lower-end vehicles have better performance. Overall, I was disappointed with the customer service I received.

Positive 2017 Bmw X5 car reviews

The hybrid X5 is fantastic when it comes to fuel economy, especially for an SUV of its size. You can expect to get an average of 35 mpg in all-around driving, which is pretty impressive. Additionally, short trips in town can be driven in full electric mode, which means you won't have to use any gasoline at all!

  2. Amparo Jenkins 2024-08-04

The only thing I can think to say negatively about this car is that it can get quite hot, even in the winter. However, I got a great deal on an end of year model, despite the limited color choices. Overall, I had a great sales experience and I am absolutely thrilled with my purchase!

Hey there! Have you had a chance to test drive the all-wheel drive yet?

  4. Van Abernathy 2024-06-17

I can't express how much I adore this vehicle, even more than any of the many BMWs I've owned, including the 5 series. It's truly a beauty of a beast.

  5. Howard Klein 2024-03-19

The X5 35D M Sport is an amazing car! I've tested many SUVs, but nothing comes close to the X5. I love the handling, comfort, torque, look, and power that this car has. The build quality is superb, and it can go 1000 km with an 85L fuel tank! It has 88k km on it.
