The X5 is primarily manufactured in North America, at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg. Assembly operations also take place in Russia by Avtotor, along with operations in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. The X5 is also modified for armoured security versions, at the BMW de México Toluca plant.
The automaker's SAV series, which was started by the X5, has expanded with derivations of other number-series BMWs. This began in 2003 with the X3, and continued in 2008 with the X6 (which shares its platform with the X5).

The valve put pressure inside engine which it couldn't handle causing a blown gasket and oil leak, the leak fell on the serpentine belt and AC belt and they slipped off. This is crazy and very dangerous.

I then try to start the vehicle and it will not turn over. The car remains stuck in park. Eventually the battery wears down and will not even engage the starter. But the lights and flashers will still be on. I have taken the car in multiple times to the bmw dealership telling them of the situation and they tell me it is not showing any problem. The vehicle does not give any warning and there are no engine or warning lights that appear. This happens at any time of day. There are constant complaints of these issues happening with multiple models of bmw.

They made sure as part of there man made 358.00$ diagnosis that it was not related to the fuel pum.

- Summary: I was returning home from work and the engine started to sputter/vibrate. I was right next to a gas station and as I was pulling into the gas station, the engine died and would not restart. I had the car towed and then I proceeded to troubleshoot the problem. I did a fuel pressure test and found that there was no fuel pressure. I tested the fuel pump relay and found it to be operational. I accessed the primary fuel pump to check power and found the fuel pump wiring to be missing an inch of insulation on both wires and the insulation is brittle for another inch or two. There were two splices on the fuel pump wiring where recall #16V746000 was performed and a new connector was spliced in. Those two splices were melted together. Recall #16V746000 was a problem with the fuel pump connector melting due to loose wiring. I have concern that there is still an issue with the fuel system wiring overheating or the repair process is not adequate to solve the issue.

MY VEHICLE IS OVER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY BY 4 MONTHS BUT UNDER THE MILEAGE LIMIT BY 40,000 MILES. - Summary: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2009-2012 X5 xDrive35d, 2008-2012 X6 xDrive35i, X6 xDrive50i and X6 M, 2007-2012 X5 30si, X5 xDrive30i, X5 xDrive35i, X5 48i, X5 xDrive48i, X5 xDrive50i and X5 M and 2010-2011 X6 ActiveHybrid vehicles equipped with non-desiccated, passenger frontal air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSPI-2) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger front air bag, free of charge. The recall began March 11, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The fuel filter heater, which is used for warming up the diesel fuel during vehicle operation at low outside temperatures, could experience an electrical overload condition and become permanently activated.
- Consequence: The fuel filter heater could remain activated even when the ignition is off and lead to a dead battery. The unit could also overheat, possibly resulting in a vehicle fire.

I really enjoy the diesel note at idle, it reminds me of my time in Europe. Although, I can't hear it at speed. The dual sequential turbo provides a surprising punch and it feels best at 80 mph. At that rate, it gets an honest 26 mpg, while in town it gets 17/18. Unfortunately, the electronics are suspect. Sometimes the clock won't boot and the nav screen won't come up. However, I had three Nav heads installed on warranty and it's probably fixed now. I did have an alternator go out, which took three weeks to get a replacement, but the dealer made a courtesy payment! With all those gears, it can be hard for the transmission to select medium takeoff velocity, but easy is fine and if you stomp on it, it flies. The middle is hard to attain. Overall, I have mixed feelings about this car and will probably trade it before the warranty expires.

The SUV, while a little noisy outside, is extremely quiet inside and comfortable, with excellent power and very good fuel mileage.

The car sounds fantastic! It has great build quality, looks good, and gets great mileage on the road. Passengers and bystanders alike seem to love it. Plus, driving it is incredibly comfortable - you can easily go 400 miles without feeling fatigued.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with cars. I used to have a Mercedes, but I didn't enjoy it very much. On the other hand, I had a BMW 528i for years and it felt really sturdy and safe. Recently, I decided to switch to the X5 and I have to say, it's been a great choice! The mileage isn't the best, but that's to be expected with a 4.8L engine, right? Overall, it's a fantastic car that feels like a sports car while still being luxurious.

5,000 mile review: This vehicle offers a great compromise between V8 performance and SUV comfort, while also being environmentally conscious with up to 30 mpg on the highway. However, it is important to note that the diesel engine can be heard at low RPMs, which may not be to everyone's liking. Additionally, the X5 model has a loud exhaust note, which some may mistake for performance. When combined with the diesel engine, the driving experience can be noisy and intrusive. That being said, after the first 5,000 miles, the vehicle achieved an impressive 24.5 mpg mixed and 29.5 mpg on the highway. This is especially noteworthy considering the vehicle's weight of over 2.5 tons and the fact that it is not yet broken in. If you are looking for an SUV that is both comfortable and environmentally friendly, this could be a great choice for you.

I purchased this SUV a year and a half ago, but unfortunately, I have had a few issues with it. Despite its good looks and powerful V-8 engine, the cost of repairs has been quite high. Within six months of driving it, I had to replace the water pump, which cost me $900. A year later, it was back in the shop again, and after $500 of diagnostics, I was informed that I needed a $2100 coil package replacement. Currently, the belt tensioner is making noise and the acceleration does not feel right. I am disappointed with the quality of BMW vehicles and have decided to look for a new, dependable vehicle in the near future. Despite my experience, I am hopeful that I will find a better fit for my needs.
