Toyota Avalon problems
The Toyota Avalon (Japanese: トヨタ・アバロン, Hepburn: Toyota Abaron) is a full-size sedan produced by Toyota. It is Toyota's largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship sedan in the United States, Canada, China and the Middle East. It was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion. The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.
Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation and subsequent Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom due to its extended-length chassis. From 2013, the Lexus ES was moved to the extended platform to match the Avalon.
As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.
Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend, fitting it in with Toyota's tradition of naming their sedans the word for "crown" in various languages (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla), types of crowns (Tiara), or other things associated with royalty (Scepter).

Common Toyota Avalon problems
Based on complaints from Toyota Avalon owners, several common problems have been reported with these cars:
- Cracked Dashboards: Many Toyota Avalon models, including those from 1995-2010 and 2012, have experienced issues with cracked dashboards. Owners have reported that their dashboards would crack, leading to aesthetic and potentially functional concerns.
- Transmission Issues: Owners of various Avalon models, such as those from 1995-1998, 2000-2007, 2009, and 2015, have faced transmission problems. These issues manifest as difficulties in shifting correctly, hesitation when shifting gears at low speeds, and even sudden jerking or staying in neutral while driving.
- Misfiring Engine: Avalon owners from 1995-2010 and 2012 have reported instances of misfiring engines. This issue causes the vehicle to hesitate and jerk, primarily due to faulty ignition coils. Replacing these coils can incur costs ranging from $5 to $50 plus labor.
- Peeling Paint: A common complaint, especially with the 2011 Avalon model, is peeling paint. Drivers have observed paint bubbling up and peeling, particularly on the roof and areas between the windshield and sunroof, affecting the car's appearance.
- Sudden Unintended Acceleration: Many 2014 Avalon owners have raised concerns about sudden unintended acceleration. This issue causes the car to accelerate without driver input, suspected to be related to electronic faults leading to throttle engagement without pressing the gas pedal.
- Fuel Leaks: Some Avalon models have been prone to fuel leaks, posing safety risks and potential fire hazards. This problem requires immediate attention and repair to ensure the vehicle's safety and performance.
These issues highlight the importance of thorough research and inspection when considering purchasing a Toyota Avalon, as certain model years have shown a higher incidence of these common problems reported by owners.

Vehicle year: 2013
This is our third Avalon and I must say, the 2013 model is a refreshing change with its updated exterior and interior design. I love every aspect of it, including the tires and wheels. We were fortunate enough to find a 2013 model with only 16500 miles on it. While I feel that I got a fair deal, I wouldn't say it was a great deal. The ride comfort and instrumentation are top-notch. My previous Avalon had a 6-disc changer instead of GPS, but it was also a limited model. Unfortunately, it was totaled in an accident caused by someone rear-ending us on I-40 while traffic was stopped. The Avalon's fuel efficiency is impressive, with 31 mpg on the highway and an average of 25 mpg in the city. I have truly fallen in love with the Avalon all over again with its new design. I highly recommend the limited model to anyone looking for an Avalon. The car handles exceptionally well with Michelin tires, and I am excited to take it on a road trip from North Carolina to Florida soon!

Your car has been a reliable and economical choice for nine years, only requiring routine maintenance. It's comfortable, peppy, and roomy, making it a great option for trouble-free driving.

Vehicle year: 1999
Overall, I found this car to be quite pleasant. It is a great choice if you are looking for a midsize car that is mechanically reliable. The car is very comfortable for long trips. However, there are a few issues that I encountered. Firstly, there is a leak in the trunk area due to spot welding at the factory. Although I fixed the wheel well area water leak, water still collects in the left (under the tool container). Secondly, there is a front rattle that relates to bad shocks and mounts. I plan to change them in the summer. Additionally, the rear stabilizer bar link is making noise and needs to be changed. Thirdly, the exhaust pipe on the front (flex pipe) is designed too low and combined with bad shocks on the front, it caused a repair. Lastly, the headlight is quite cheap with clear plastic. The wheel well should be larger to accommodate larger tires. I do feel that the tire width should be 215.

Vehicle year: 2021
This vehicle is the flagship of Toyota sedans. Its ride and comfort are above par. I have driven all types of Toyotas over the last 25 years and this is by far the best. While there is always room for improvement, I believe that giving it a rating of 2 stars or lower is not justified.

Congratulations on your wife's new car! It's amazing how much technology has advanced in the past 23 years, and the 2019 Avalon is a great example of that. The build quality and passenger compartment are impressive, especially compared to the 1995 Thunderbird. It's great to hear that your husband, who is 6'3

I noticed some wind noise in the flagship model, and the tires can be a bit noisy. The driving position may not be the most comfortable for taller individuals, but the car is reliable overall. While it may not have as much leg room as some other models, it still gets the job done. The factory has made some changes to the car over time, but it remains a solid choice for those looking for a reliable vehicle. Thank you for considering this car!

I hope this review finds you well! Although it's a bit late, I wanted to share my thoughts on the Avalon. When the new design was released in 2013, I was impressed with the improvements made from previous years. I purchased the Limited model in October of that year and have now owned it for over 3 years, giving me a better perspective for this review. While I agree with some of the comments made about the Avalon, such as the uncomfortable seats and low roof line making it difficult to get in and out of the car, I have found the performance and reliability to be great. The gas mileage has also been decent. However, the ride is not as smooth and there is noticeable road noise due to the low profile tires. The handling is alright, but the climate control and radio buttons are very sensitive. Additionally, the trunk light is not very bright. Overall, I would say the Avalon is better suited for around town or short trips of no more than 2 hours. It's not the best car for long trips. I may have had higher expectations for the 2013 Avalon, as my mother's 2007 Avalon had a better ride, comfortable seats, and was easier to get in and out of, while also being smooth and quiet. It's quite a difference between the two cars!

The Toyota Avalon did not meet our expectations as a flagship vehicle. While we have owned and know many people who own Toyotas, including older Avalons, this newer model does not compare in terms of build quality. Despite its attractive exterior and interior, the car has many rattles and squeaks, and the interior is filled with hard plastics that do not feel luxurious. The seats are very uncomfortable, and the leather is of poor quality. The base sound system is tinny, and the touch screen has a significant delay. The AC fan is noisy at higher speeds, and there is significant road noise at both low and high speeds. We had to return to the dealer to fix a rattling fuel line and malfunctioning USB port, which proved to be a challenge for the dealer. The cup holders are small and not very functional, and the ride is rough and jarring. While the engine is responsive and powerful, and the transmission has seamless shifts, we do not believe these features justify the significantly higher price compared to a Corolla. We were very disappointed with the car and have since sold it.

As loyal Toyota owners for almost 40 years, we were excited to purchase the 2020 version of our beloved Avalon Hybrid. However, we noticed a severe distortion in the rear window on the first day of owning the car, which was a safety concern. Although Toyota corporate acknowledged the issue, they did not have a resolution as replacement glass was also distorted. Fortunately, the dealership was extremely supportive and helpful, and we were able to find a different lot number with an acceptable rear window. We hope that Toyota corporate will take responsibility for this manufacturing defect before more car owners become dissatisfied. On a positive note, we are enjoying the phenomenal ride, improved engine power, and great safety features, although they can be overwhelming at times. We also miss the Android app, as others have mentioned. Overall, we remain loyal to Toyota and their quality products.

If you're around 6 feet tall, you might want to consider a different vehicle. As someone who's a little over 6 feet and weighs 225 pounds, I found that there were a few issues when I got into the driver's seat. Firstly, the vehicle sits quite low to the ground, which means that there isn't much headroom. Additionally, the front seat is about 1 1/2 inches shorter than other vehicles, which caused me to experience some thigh cramps when driving.
