2021 Toyota Avalon problems

The Toyota Avalon (Japanese: トヨタ・アバロン, Hepburn: Toyota Abaron) is a full-size sedan produced by Toyota. It is Toyota's largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship sedan in the United States, Canada, China and the Middle East. It was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion. The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.

Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation and subsequent Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom due to its extended-length chassis. From 2013, the Lexus ES was moved to the extended platform to match the Avalon.

As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.

Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend, fitting it in with Toyota's tradition of naming their sedans the word for "crown" in various languages (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla), types of crowns (Tiara), or other things associated with royalty (Scepter).

Common 2021 Toyota Avalon problems

The 2021 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, in its final year, has been noted for some common issues and complaints by its owners. While many appreciate its comfort, efficiency, and spaciousness, there are areas where the vehicle falls short.

One of the main complaints is the placement of the heated steering wheel icon, which is located on the lower left dash part, near the driver's left knee. This placement is considered inconvenient and outdated by some owners.

Another issue is the limited utility of the sedan, particularly when it comes to cargo space. The trunk holds 16.1 cubic feet of gear, which is the same as the gas model. However, the fuel tank is smaller, holding 13.2 gallons instead of 15.8 on the Avalon Limited. This reduction in fuel tank capacity can lead to more frequent fuel stops.

The sedan's layout and size also present challenges when it comes to loading larger items. For example, stuffing a goalie bag into the trunk can be a frustrating experience, as it requires a significant amount of effort and maneuvering. This lack of practicality and ease of use can be a drawback for those who need to transport larger items frequently.

The technology in the 2021 Toyota Avalon Hybrid has also been criticized for being outdated. This can be a disappointment, particularly for younger passengers who are accustomed to more advanced features. The low ride height and lack of a hatch or easy opening for cargo can also be a source of frustration for some owners.

In terms of reliability, the 2021 Toyota Avalon Hybrid has received mixed reviews. Some owners have reported issues with noises, leaks, and other problems. These issues can range from minor inconveniences to more significant problems that require repairs or replacements. However, it's worth noting that Toyota is generally known for producing reliable vehicles, and the Avalon Hybrid is no exception.

Overall, while the 2021 Toyota Avalon Hybrid has many positive qualities, it's important to be aware of the common issues and complaints that have been reported by owners. These issues can impact the overall ownership experience and may be a factor to consider when deciding whether to purchase this vehicle.

  • Summary: The Rear Cross Traffic Warning signal is installed behind rear head rest, which muffles the alert sound to barely audible, even when setting is on high. Vanandergriff Toyota dealership in Arlington, Tx., verified this information to me after bringing my car in four times for service because I was not being warned of persons and vehicles passing behind me. I've called Toyota's home office and told nothing can be done, as it was installed this way, although I am still asking they remove muffling material or change location of warning equipment. It is very dangerous, as persons and cars are not always visible due to parking location or blind spots. This should be a recall item. All other warning signals on front of car work properly. I was told by company representative to just use drive-through parking! Consumer contacted Toyota customer service and the dealership in Arlington, Tx. where it was purchased. Consumer was told nothing can be done to fix the problem.

Negative 2021 Toyota Avalon car reviews

  1. Leopold Champlin 2024-11-24

Wow, it's amazing that you were able to get 11 years and 465,000 miles out of your 2005 Avalon! However, I can understand how the lower headroom might be a challenge for someone who is 6'6

  2. Melvina Cartwright 2024-07-28

This is a significant improvement in the 'sports ride' experiment that Toyota tried in 2013. The previous models rode like a truck, which alienated the demographic that brought them to the party. However, this new model offers a much better ride. Although some may find its appearance reminiscent of a whale shark, it's important to note that Toyota's recent lineup has undergone significant changes.

  3. Gabriel DuBuque 2024-07-03

Have you ever been in a situation where you unexpectedly come across a piece of tire tread on the road and couldn't avoid it in time? It's frustrating when it damages your car, especially when it's not your fault. This happened to me recently, and unfortunately, it caused some damage to my car. It's incidents like these that make me hesitant to buy low slung sedans like Toyotas.

  4. Gilberto Runte 2024-05-11

The extreme forward angle of the headrests is causing neck pain and tension, and the gas mileage is poor. Additionally, the 2020 model lacks a rear window shade, which was a nice feature in my 2016 Avalon, especially in Florida where it helps to keep the interior cool. The abundance of unnecessary bells and whistles is also a concern. In hindsight, I regret not considering other makes and models, such as Honda.

  5. Holden Hills 2024-04-12

Hi there! I recently purchased a 2020 Avalon Hybrid Limited in September and I've been enjoying it so far. However, I did run into a small issue with the windshield wipers. When I tried to lift the driver's side wiper, it was obstructed by the hood and I was worried about damaging it. I reached out to the dealership and corporate customer service to address the issue, but unfortunately, I didn't receive the help I was hoping for. Despite the frustration, I'm hopeful that we can find a solution. Thank you for listening!

Positive 2021 Toyota Avalon car reviews

  1. Gerald Green 2024-11-22

The Toyota safety sense is really impressive in the new Avalon, and the central console is slightly detached from the dashboard, which provides a great contour for the driver in terms of visibility.

  2. Alexandro Vandervort 2024-10-07

This car is very well designed, quite comfortable and has every upgrade imaginable. It compares to much more expensive luxury cars, for less money.

  3. Triston Lebsack 2024-07-18

This car may not be a high-performance vehicle with only 300 HP, but it still has plenty of power and handles great.

  4. Alex Carter 2024-06-26

My third Avalon. It's great to hear that you find it comfortable and that it has a lot of electronic options. Additionally, it's fantastic that it gets excellent gas mileage!
