2010 Toyota Avalon problems
The Toyota Avalon (Japanese: トヨタ・アバロン, Hepburn: Toyota Abaron) is a full-size sedan produced by Toyota. It is Toyota's largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship sedan in the United States, Canada, China and the Middle East. It was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion. The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.
Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation and subsequent Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom due to its extended-length chassis. From 2013, the Lexus ES was moved to the extended platform to match the Avalon.
As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.
Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend, fitting it in with Toyota's tradition of naming their sedans the word for "crown" in various languages (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla), types of crowns (Tiara), or other things associated with royalty (Scepter).

Common 2010 Toyota Avalon problems
The Toyota Avalon is a full-size sedan that has been in production since 1994. While it is known for its comfort, reliability, and affordability, there are some common problems that have been reported by owners of the 2010 model. Here are some of the most common issues based on complaints from owners of this car:
- Sudden Acceleration: Some 2014 Avalon owners have reported that their vehicles would accelerate for no reason, with the RPM jumping from 700 to 3600 in 1.5 seconds. Some have also reported that their accelerator pedal went from 27% to 79.5% in less than a second. Toyota claims that no issues were detected from the affected models. However, sudden unintended acceleration usually occurs when a vehicle experiences an electronic malfunction, causing the throttle to expand without the driver stepping on the gas pedal. In some cases, sudden acceleration can also happen when the driver hits the brakes, switches to cruise control, or shifts gears.
- Peeling Paint: Many 2011 Toyota Avalon owners have reported that the paint on the roof of their vehicles would bubble and peel off in sheets due to the lack of primer upon applying the paint. Owners have reported that paint bubbled on the roof of their vehicles as well as in between the windshield and sunroof.
- Transmission Issues: Transmission issues have been reported by many Avalon models, including 1995-1998, 2000-2007, 2009, and 2015. The Avalon struggles to shift correctly or hesitates when shifting from second to third gear at low speeds.
- Faulty Alternator: Toyota Avalon alternator problems were also commonly reported by owners. The main symptoms that were experienced were the following: engine stalling out at odd times or car not starting altogether, electrical issues causing normal power functions to malfunction, and hearing unusual (often loud) sounds. The most common remedy to this Toyota Avalon issue is to get an alternator replacement. Alternator replacement can cost upwards of $700 depending on which shop you take it into.
It's important to note that while these issues have been reported by some owners of the 2010 Toyota Avalon, not all vehicles of this model will experience these problems. If you are considering purchasing a used 2010 Toyota Avalon, it's recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a licensed mechanic to ensure that it is in good working condition.

- Summary: TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.
- Consequence: A STUCK OPEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY RESULT IN VERY HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
- Remedy: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. TOYOTA WILL BEGIN MAILING LETTERS TO OWNERS ON DECEMBER 31, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331, LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I've had the pleasure of driving my car through some amazing states, from Montana all the way to New York and Florida. It's been a great experience, and I even got to drive over the Rockies in it!

Hi there! Have you ever wondered what others are paying for their cars in your area? Or when the new models are coming out? Another great tip is to buy at the end of the month. Hope this helps!

The Toyota Avalon did not meet my expectations for a quiet ride, despite positive reviews. The road and wind noise were intrusive and annoying, making it difficult to enjoy the stereo system. As a consumer, I expected a higher level of insulation from a sedan of this caliber. I hope Toyota will take this feedback into consideration for future models.
