2007 Toyota Avalon problems
The Toyota Avalon (Japanese: トヨタ・アバロン, Hepburn: Toyota Abaron) is a full-size sedan produced by Toyota. It is Toyota's largest front-wheel drive sedan and serves as its flagship sedan in the United States, Canada, China and the Middle East. It was also produced in Australia from April 2000 until June 2005, when it was replaced in November 2006 by the Aurion. The first production Avalon rolled off the TMMK assembly line in Georgetown, Kentucky, in September 1994, and subsequent generations have all been manufactured at the Kentucky location to date.
Toyota marketed the Avalon as a replacement for the Cressida, a model discontinued for the American market in 1992. While the Cressida was an upper-level mid-size rear-wheel drive car with a straight-six engine, the Avalon is front-wheel drive, powered by a V6 engine. In recent years, there has been considerable overlapping with its platform mates, the Camry V6 and the Lexus ES, although the third-generation and subsequent Avalon was distinguished by offering extra legroom due to its extended-length chassis. From 2013, the Lexus ES was moved to the extended platform to match the Avalon.
As of 2013, the Avalon was sold in the United States, Canada, China, South Korea and the Middle East. It was discontinued in the United States in 2022.
Avalon is a legendary island featured in the Arthurian legend, fitting it in with Toyota's tradition of naming their sedans the word for "crown" in various languages (Crown, Corona, Camry, Corolla), types of crowns (Tiara), or other things associated with royalty (Scepter).

Common 2007 Toyota Avalon problems
The Toyota Avalon, a full-size sedan, has been known for its reliability over the years, but certain model years, including the 2007 model, have experienced common problems. Here are some of the issues reported by owners of the 2007 Toyota Avalon:
- Structural Issues: Structural issues have generated 30 complaints in total, with drivers reporting cracks in the dashboard around the airbags.
- Airbags: There are 20 reports on file for airbags, with drivers reporting failure to deploy in the event of an accident.
- Engine Problems: The 2007 Toyota Avalon has been recalled 6 times, which is well within the median range for a vehicle this old. Drivers report the Toyota Avalon lasting at least 200,000 miles before the engine and transmission problems start to mount up.
- Water Pump Leaks: Some owners have reported water pump leaks, which can negatively affect how the car functions during a collision. Experts recommend replacing the airbag once it has been deployed.
- Clock Spring Failure: Airbags are often connected to a component known as the clock spring. An old or worn clock spring can sometimes lead to the warning light coming on abruptly.
- Faulty Alternator: Toyota Avalon alternator problems were commonly reported by owners. The main symptoms include engine stalling out at odd times or car not starting altogether, electrical issues causing normal power functions to malfunction, and hearing unusual loud sounds.
- Acceleration Issues: Acceleration issues, such as the cruise control system randomly slamming the brakes or the accelerator seemingly getting stuck, have been reported by owners. These problems can be caused by a damaged mass airflow or oxygen sensor, a faulty catalytic converter, debris-infested fuel system, or a misaligned timing belt.
- Air Conditioner Problems: Air conditioner problems, such as a malfunctioning air conditioning system, have also been reported by owners.
These issues should be considered when purchasing a used 2007 Toyota Avalon. However, it is important to note that Toyota vehicles are generally reliable, and the Avalon is known for its luxury features and power. With proper maintenance, a 2007 Toyota Avalon can last for many years and provide a comfortable and dependable driving experience.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-14
- VIN: 4T1BK36B47U
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: The dashboard melts/gets sticky when it is hot and humid outside. Once the dashboard is in the sticky state, it appears wet with melted/sticky plastic. When we look out the front windshield while driving, the sun reflects off of the extra shiny sticky dashboard and the experience of the entire front dashboard surface reflecting the sun is like looking directly into the sun. You cannot see out the front windshield because the glare is too severe because of the shiny dashboard top. Even with sunglasses on and visor down, it is impossible to see ahead of the car while driving because of the blinding glare. The glare off of the sticky dashboard and the reflection of the dashboard onto the inside of the windshield is very scary. The Toyota dealer said that they are aware of the issue and extended the warranty to replace the dashboard because of the problem, but they did NOT issue a recall. The extended warranty expired, ironically, this vehicle has been kept in a garage since it was bought in 2007 and only has 50,000 miles on it now...so we didn't know there was a problem until several years after their extended warranty expired in 2017. The dealer said that I would have to pay out of pocket to replace the dashboard and they would not pay for it. We called Toyota "Resolution Department" and they said the same thing. We asked them if they admit that it is a factory defect and it creates a dangerous driving situation, why would they not want to make it right?

- Summary: I am the owner of the 2007 Toyota Avalon that my son was driving. He experienced a very dangerous situation where his steering wheel getting locked while driving on Dec 10, 2021 afternoon. He stopped the car immediately by slamming on the brakes. The car was towed to a local Toyota dealership, Toyota of Redlands, California. The Service Manager Todd Klingbeil was able to reproduce the issue based on the earlier Toyota Recall information for 2000-2004 Avalons, and they replaced the steering bracket assembly. It is clear that my 2007 Avalon car experienced similar Steering locking issue/defect like in the Toyota Avalon 2000-2004 recall bulletin. I brought the matter to the attention of Toyota (manufacturer), but they simply ignored the matter saying there is no recall for 2007 Avalon, and they would not cover the cost nor reimburse me. And they never responded to my fax, emails and phone calls.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-08-20
- VIN: 4T1BK36B57U
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I HAVE TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE AT ALL TIME NO MATTER WHAT POSITION THE CAR IS IN AT THAT TIME. IF NOT, THE CAR WOULD MAKE A MOVEMENT TO WHERE IT ACTS LIKE IT WANT TO JUMP OUT OF THE GEAR THAT THE CAR IS POSITION IN. EVEN IF THE CAR IS IN POSITION PARK POSITION IF THE BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED THE CAR WOULD MAKE A HARD MOVEMENT LIKE IT WANT TO KEEP MOVING. WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE IS APPLIED AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS STILL IN THE DRIVE OR REVERSE POSITION AND THE STATIONARY PTO SWITCH IS ENGAGED BY THE OPERATOR, THE ENGINE MAY REV AND OVERCOME THE PARKING BRAKE'S ABILITY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2011-04-16
- VIN: 4T1BK36B57U
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: 2011: I NOTICED THE DASH FELT SOFT, NOT STICKY EXACTLY, BUT FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, PLIABLE. 2013: WHILE DRIVING ON VACATION I REALIZED MY VISIBILITY WAS TREMENDOUSLY IMPEDED BY THE INCREDIBLY OPAQUE GLARE IN MY WINDSHIELD FROM THE DASHBOARD. IT WAS SO BAD, I REALIZED I COULD MAKE OUT THE PATTERNED IMPRINT (DESIGNED TO RESEMBLE LEATHER GRAIN). THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO REDUCE THIS GLARE AS LONG AS THE SUN IS OUT. IT SERIOUSLY IMPAIRS MY ABILITY TO SEE CLEARLY, IS OBVIOUSLY DISTRACTING, AND ADDED TO MY FATIGUE ON THE TRIP. A SAFETY ISSUE IF THERE EVER WAS ONE CAUSING DRIVER IMPAIRMENT DUE TO EYE STRAIN ADDING TO DRIVER FATIGUE. 2015: I NOTICED MY FIRST CRACK IN THE DASH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE AIRBAG. WITHIN A MONTH, I FOUND ANOTHER CRACK IN THE CENTER OF THE DASH. THIS IS A GARAGE KEPT SECOND CAR, USED FOR LONG TRIP COMFORT AND SUNDAY DRIVES. 2016: CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT PROGRESSING CRACKS IN DASH. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL BUT IT HAD ENDED 2 MONTHS EARLIER. SORRY BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. 2020: I AM WAITING FOR PIECES OF MY DASH TO FALL OFF. MY LATEST CRACK FOLLOWS THE INSTRUMENT COCKPIT TOP EDGE COMPLETELY ACROSS TO THE DRIVER'S DOOR CURVE. IT JUST SPLIT APART. THIS IS MY BABIED AND PROTECTED CAR, 2007 AVALON XLS WITH 64,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE OWNED TOYOTAS SINCE THE EARLY 80'S; COROLLA, TERCEL, CELICA, CAMRY, RAV4, AVALON. NOT ONE OF THEM EVER HAD A DASH PROBLEM. IN LOOKING AT COMPLAINTS HERE THE MAJORITY OF THEM ARE ABOUT THE DASH. TOYOTA SHOULD STEP UP. WHO GETS TO DECIDE THAT ONE SAFETY ISSUE IS WORTH A RECALL BUT ANOTHER ISN'T? THE GLARE IS SO BAD THAT, MORE THAN ONCE, I HAVE BEEN NERVOUS ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE BRAKE LIGHTS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. IS IT FAIR THAT THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO OPERATE MY TOYOTA IS ON A CLOUDY DAY OR AT NIGHT? I HOPE EVENTUALLY ENOUGH COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS WILL HELP.

ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-07-24
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: IN JULY 2013, MY PERFECTLY WONDERFUL TOYOTA AVALON (2007, 67,700 MILES) RUPTURED A TTVI OIL HOSE AND WITHIN A MATTER OF MINUTES BLEW UP MY ENGINE. UPON CONTACTING TOYOTA, I WAS TOLD THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM FOR CAMRYS AND AVALONS INCLUDING MY YEAR AND MODEL, BUT THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR COVERED BECAUSE MY VIN #WAS OUTSIDE THE PARAMETERS. I FILED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS AN APPEAL OF THIS PHONE AND LOCAL DEALER DETERMINATION. I RECEIVED ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY COMPLAINT (1307241937) BUT NO DETERMINATION. I JUST CALLED TOYOTA NATIONAL TORRANCE, AND WAS TOLD MY STATUS WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THEY HAD DETERMINED MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED-- MY APPEAL WAS TO THE POINT OF WHY MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED. I LIVE IN KY, 20 MILES FROM THE TOYOTA PLANT AND HAVE MANY FRIENDS THAT WORK THERE. MANY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE VIN IS AN UNRELIABLE PARAMETER, BECAUSE OFTEN THEY HAVE OLD PARTS ON THEIR TRAYS THAT ARE INSTALLED ON LATER VEHICLES. EVERY PARTY AGREES THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN ON THE EXACT RARE DEFECT-ORIGINATED PROBLEM AND THAT MY DAMAGE WAS THE RESULT OF THE EXACT DEFECT DESCRIBED IN THE CAMPAIGN. EVERY PARTY AGREES THAT I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE ISSUE IS WHY MY VIN NUMBER (AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS I AM SURE) WAS NOT INCLUDED AND WHY, GIVEN THE EVIDENCE THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, TOYOTA IS NOT WILLING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR OF THE CAR---$307 FOR HOSE AND $6500 FOR ENGINE WHICH ENDED UP BEING THE MARK DOWN OF WHAT LOCAL TOYOTA GAVE ME FOR MY CAR TOWARD A NEW CAR. *JS

THIS HAS ALSO CREATED A CONCERN NOT ONLY FOR THE GLARE, BUT FOR THE CHEMICAL ELEMENTS THIS HAS DISPERSED INTO THE VEHICLE.I CALLED TOYOTA IN '18, BUT WAS TOLD VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I WOULD NOT CONSIDER THIS A WARRANTY PROBLEM, BUT A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED WITH A RECALL. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE REGARDING THIS DETERIORATION CONDITION. VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE OR RIDE IN. FIRST NOTICED THIS IN LATE '12 AND THIS HAS GOTTEN MUCH, MUCH WORSE EVEN THOUGH IS IT GARAGED THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

I TOLD THEM I CANT SEE AT NIGHT AND THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I FEEL THEY NEED TO TAKE A LOOK AT THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE YOUR REAR WINDOW.

I've had my Avalon for about a year now and, overall, it's been a good experience. Although I've encountered the same issue as others with the window washer fluid, I haven't had any other major problems. The only concern I have is with the paint, which seems to be of poor quality. I'm not looking forward to seeing how it holds up in a couple of years. When my wife drives, we get around 32 miles per gallon on the freeway and in the low 20s in town. However, I don't seem to get the same results when I'm behind the wheel. At times, the transmission feels a little strange, almost like it's slipping, but it hasn't caused any issues so far. We've been fortunate to have had no problems with the car. I decided to have the factory wheels chromed for about $400, which was a good value for the money.

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to let you know that I purchased a car for my wife, but unfortunately she found it difficult to drive in the busy Houston traffic. However, the car is still in excellent condition and has many great features. It drives like a dream and has both warm and cool front seats, temperature controls, and a power tilt/slide glass moonroof. Please let me know if you're interested in taking a look!

I've been driving the XL model since August 2007 and have covered around 6500K miles. I've owned two Beemers and an Infinity before, and I enjoyed them very much. However, the Avalon is special because it's smooth, quiet, and fairly economical on gas, considering its size. I use regular octane, but I've also tried Plus and Premium at times. The cloth/velour seats are very practical, keeping me warm on cold days and cool on hot ones. The transmission is excellent, shifting gears seamlessly, making it a symbiotic relationship between car and driver. The only downside is that the driver's seat needs more back support. Overall, I would rate this car as a 9-1/2, almost perfect, but then again, nothing's perfect.

I'm so glad to hear that you had a great experience with your new Limited Avalon! It sounds like it's one of the best cars you've ever owned. I appreciate your detailed comparison with the Audi A6, and it's great to hear that the Avalon beats it in almost every respect. The navigation system sounds particularly impressive, and I'm glad to hear that it can be set for different routes. While the lateral support may not be as good as the Audi, it's great to hear that the seat adjustments are almost infinite, making it easy to find a comfortable setting. The lumbar support and vented seats also sound like a real plus, especially on long drives. And getting 34 mpg is fantastic! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Hi there! I'm a 19-year-old guy and I absolutely love my car! Despite having driven it for two years and clocking up 160k miles, it's still going strong. It's got all the luxury features of my friends' BMW and Mercedes, but with the added bonus of low insurance and repair costs that come with owning a Toyota. Today, I was backed into by a semi-truck, but thanks to my trusty car, I only ended up with three scratches! This car has plenty of power, a smooth ride, and an amazing stereo system that always surprises people. I have the limited trim with all the features possible, and even though the car is 13 years old now, the only thing that's broken is the rear sunshade - which is pretty impressive! All in all, I highly recommend this car!

Hey there! I totally understand your frustration with car companies making their vehicles less user-friendly. It can be really frustrating when simple parts and accessories lose their quality. However, I think it's important to remember that Toyota still makes great engines with a history of reliability. While newer models may require more maintenance, it's important to keep up with regular maintenance to ensure your car lasts as long as possible. Your 2000 Camry sounds like a great car and it's awesome that it's still running well! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

The looks of this car were all that remains after less than a year 6 problems in the first year. Rain leaks, water from washer fluid leaks, tire sensors bad, no start twice, and a very strange shift pattern unless I drive like my grand mom. No fun car. Looks good but I expected more. Next time it is the Acura. Either I got a bad apple or the Toyota name is not all what is is hyped up to be.

I purchased this car new and have been driving it as a 'little old lady'. Unfortunately, at 85,000 miles, the car experienced a blown head gasket which also damaged the oxygen sensors, resulting in a repair bill of $4000. While this experience has been disappointing, I am confident in my decision to purchase a Toyota. I have noticed that the front driver seat is not as comfortable as I would like, as I can feel the springs through it. However, I appreciate the overall quality of the vehicle and will consider Toyota for future purchases.

I have experienced some quality issues with my 2nd Avalon (the first being a '98 XLS). The AC hose clogged at 35k miles, causing damage to the carpeting. Additionally, the oil line broke at 28k miles, resulting in a loss of engine oil while on the road. Despite these issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of the Avalon. While the engine noise may be noticeable, it does not detract from the vehicle's performance. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and look forward to continued use of my Avalon.

This vehicle is comfortable on smooth roads, but can be a bit bumpy on rougher terrain. There is an intermittent rattle somewhere, but overall it's a pleasant ride. In windy conditions, it can feel a bit unstable, but it's manageable. The headliner is not perfectly flush with the back window, but it's within the manufacturer's tolerance. The paint is a bit delicate and can scratch easily, so it's important to be careful when washing it. The window wipers can leave streaks in the driver's line of sight, which can be distracting, but using Rain X can help keep the windshield clean.
