Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.
An all-electric battery-powered, or BEV version called the Equinox EV was introduced in 2022 with sales starting in 2023 for the 2024 model year. It adopts a separate design and underpinnings from the internal combustion engine powered Equinox.
First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

Tried to start vehicle no power, engine power reduced light back on as well as check engine light. I was left stuck on the road waiting on a tow truck to take my vehicle back to the dealership that worked on it previously after contacting Chevy it was determined my fuel system failed and the part needed us on back order.

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a 2015 LTZ V-6 with 22K miles from Thrifty Auto sales for $27K! I'm so glad to hear that you're pleased with your purchase and that you're enjoying the features and style. It's great to hear that the mpg rating is higher than what you've seen in other forums. On a recent 223-mile drive at 70+mph, you were able to achieve an impressive 26.7 mpg! Around town, you typically get 18-19 mpg. The V6 3.6 VVT is incredibly responsive, going from 0 to 60 in under 7 seconds with 301 hp and 272 lbs torque. This engine is also used in the Camaro, Impala, and other models. With a smooth, quiet ride and an 8 speaker Pioneer system, you can even rock out to oldies if you wish! It sounds like you've found a real keeper that you'll enjoy for at least 4 years.

I'm glad to share my experience with this car. I have owned it since day 1 for 10 years now and it has been a great all-around car when maintained properly. I have not had any unreasonable repairs to this vehicle, except a head gasket replacement at 65k miles that GM paid for. I understand that some people may have had a bad experience with this car, but I have had repairs to this vehicle, all of which fell under warranty. The only out of pocket expenses I have had are brakes and tires. The car has been reliable and I have spent $2400 on my extended warranty which expired at 125k miles. Since then, I have only had to replace a fuel pump after an accident. The car has been well-maintained with new struts, new tires/brakes twice since owning (Cooper CS4 tires), 2 new front wheel bearings, and 2 front tie rods. I do not know if the tie rods are from the accident or not. Aside from this, all mechanical, I have had no other issues with the car. The car has many pros, including awesome remote start, great AWD, good road handling, no blind spots, big and comfortable seats, plenty of legroom, and lots of storage space. For the year of this car, it's a great car to have and a good value. I would expect this car to have a repair cost of around $4500 from 100k miles to 150k miles. I would expect that around 150k, I would need some kind of engine work or transmission, but I have not gotten that far yet, and don't even burn oil or have any compression issues as recently tested. That's pretty acceptable. The exterior paint looks almost brand new still. Overall, I would highly recommend this car.Turning Radius is not the best, and the coolant needs to be flushed every 3 years to keep the heat hot in the winter due to the Dexacool, which tends to clog up. This service costs $225. The front headlamps tend to attract moisture, and I had to get them fixed twice. I even had to replace them once, which cost me $450 in labor and $175 for a pair of lights online. Overall, this is a good car, but it does have its faults. The Honda CRV required less maintenance, but we paid more upfront for it. However, it was not as fun to drive and seemed to lack technology. In the end, it all balanced out.

Overall, it's a great SUV. The only issue I've encountered is with the transmission, which can be slow to downshift. While it upshifts just fine, it can take a while to shift up or down even on the smallest inclines. When using cruise control, this can result in a speed drop of 5-7 miles per hour going up or down the incline before the transmission finally shifts down. This can also cause the whole car to shudder from being in too high a gear for too long. I've noticed this issue with my 2015 Equinox as well, but it's even more apparent with the 2018's smaller engine.

We have a 2017 Jeep Renegade 2.5 liter. As a comparison, the Equinox has more interior and storage space. However, the 2.0 liter turbo has 70 more HP and more torque, plus a 107 inch wheelbase, making it a great option. The vehicle also boasts a power adjustable lift gate, a feature not commonly found in other vehicles in this class at this price point. My mother-in-law drives the 2020 Equinox, and while the Jeep Renegade has more zip than the Chevy 1.5 Turbo, I still prefer the Equinox for its spaciousness, even in the 1.5 turbo. If you are considering purchasing a 2020 Equinox because of the sale, please reconsider. I have had a terrible experience with mine, as it has required major repairs to the motor's electronics twice in less than two years. Additionally, there is a significant shaking and high-speed wobble at around 30-35mph, accompanied by loud clicking when accelerating and a loss of power. Despite bringing it to the dealership, they have been unable to identify the issue and have dismissed my concerns. I am currently in the process of filing a lemon law lawsuit. I will not purchase another Chevy product again. Despite being bought new in 2010, it has been nothing but a headache since. The Key Fob went out at 20,000 miles, followed by a new timing chain at 30,000 miles, a new starter at 35,000 miles, and another new starter at 65,000 miles. At 70,000 miles, the pistons and rings had to be replaced due to high oil consumption, along with the cam shaft sensor and timing chain #2. Now, less than 3 weeks later with 71,000 miles, the transmission has a broken wave plate. The dealer has quoted me over $4000 to repair it. I have contacted GM twice, but have yet to receive a response. This experience has been completely unacceptable. From now on, I will be returning to Honda. Thank you for your understanding.

I have owned a 2011 LT2 Equinox for about a year and a half since I bought it new. It has some great features such as heated seats, power everything including an automatic opening tailgate, AWD, and a nice computer. Passengers find it comfortable too. However, it does not achieve the expected mileage, averaging a little over 19 mpg in mixed driving conditions and only about 24 mpg on the highway. Additionally, the driver's seat is uncomfortable, and I have to put a rolled-up towel in the bottom back to avoid getting back pains. It struggles when driving in the mountains or even getting up to highway speeds, and the automatic transmission seems a bit rough when accelerating hard.
