Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.
An all-electric battery-powered, or BEV version called the Equinox EV was introduced in 2022 with sales starting in 2023 for the 2024 model year. It adopts a separate design and underpinnings from the internal combustion engine powered Equinox.
First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

Tried to start vehicle no power, engine power reduced light back on as well as check engine light. I was left stuck on the road waiting on a tow truck to take my vehicle back to the dealership that worked on it previously after contacting Chevy it was determined my fuel system failed and the part needed us on back order.

This 2016 Equinox has been an excellent choice for me. The ride is fantastic, and both my wife and I have noticed that our legs don't feel tired after long trips. The car handles wonderfully, with great steering and a comfortable ride. The 4 cyl. 2.4 engine is powerful enough to handle hills and easily pass on the highway without needing to push the pedal. I have been averaging over 27 MPG on the highway and better than 23 MPG around town. I have had no issues with the car, and it continues to impress me even after owning it for over two years. It is the best vehicle I have owned in many years, and I am extremely happy with my choice.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with Equinox vehicles. Over the past 10 years, my family and I have purchased 3 of them and we've noticed that they keep getting better with time. We really appreciate the ride quality, spacious interior, and all the available options. The only thing we wish was different is that the 22 model we currently have, which has a 1.5L Turbo and an RS badge, had a larger engine. Other than that, we're really happy with our Equinox. I bought my Equinox brand new three years ago and have been very pleased with its performance. In 24,000 miles, I have not had any issues. While I was aware that the 2.4L engine may not achieve the EPA fuel mileage numbers at typical highway speeds, I was disappointed to find out that it is nearly impossible to achieve the highway number. However, I have been able to measure 29.5 MPG on a 500-mile highway run in ECO mode running 65-70 MPH. If I had to do it over again, I might opt for the 6-cylinder engine as I am unsure how the 4-cylinder will hold up. On the plus side, the Equinox is quiet and we have not had any squeaks or rattles. It has run flawlessly with no returns to the dealer for any reason other than oil changes. I think the Equinox looks pretty decent and handles well. The brakes and HID headlights are great, and there is a good amount of room in the back seat. The side airbags are also a great feature. However, there are a few negative aspects that I have noticed. Firstly, the center stack is angled away from the driver, making it difficult to reach the main knob on the upper right of the radio without leaning forward. Secondly, I find the seats too firm and uncomfortable, which bothers my sciatic nerve and causes numbness. Lastly, the Equinox cargo room is much smaller than it should be for a vehicle of this length. Despite these issues, I am overall satisfied with my Equinox.According to Edmunds specs, the Equinox and the other vehicle only differ in width by 1 inch. However, I'm puzzled as to why the Equinox is so much smaller in the back. It seems like the Equinox is trying to be a small fuel-efficient SUV, but it doesn't excel at either end of the spectrum. It doesn't achieve the EPA numbers and isn't big enough to handle big family trips due to the small cargo area. Additionally, the cargo area is too narrow to fit golf clubs. While I'm not sold on the 2.4L engine, some people have reported that it is underpowered and doesn't achieve the sticker ratings. I'm uncertain how well it will hold up over time. The 6-speed transmission is good at keeping the engine revs low for better fuel economy, and I like the manual shift control. However, it is the worst-shifting new-car transmission I have ever owned. I don't consider it a severe problem, but more of a constant annoyance. It's just not nearly as smooth as it should be. In conclusion, the car has been completely reliable, which is ultimately what matters the most to me. However, I do have a few concerns as noted above.

I test drove both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder models and found that the 6 cylinder had about 100 more horsepower than the 4 cylinder, making it a better fit for me, especially when climbing hills. The car feels more solid and has a quiet and smooth ride. I really like the driver convenience package, sun sound & navigation package, rear liftgate power (which gives you the homelink option for opening your garage doors), and the driver confidence package. The premium sound is nice to listen to and the sound is even throughout the vehicle. I especially appreciate the driver visibility and height at which you are sitting while driving. So far, I have averaged 20 mpg on the first tank of fuel, but I logged quite a bit of time idling in my driveway learning all the features on this SUV. While the Equinox is great, I think it would be even better with two added features: 1) heat vents for the rear passengers and 2) an audible speed alarm which you can set to go off if you exceed the predetermined speed setting. The ride is so smooth and with the V6 power, you can easily exceed the highway speed limits and not realize it. I added mud flaps, Husky floor mats, and door sill protectors to keep the vehicle looking nice for a longer period of time. Update: Having owned the Equinox for a year now, I still love everything about it. However, I have experienced some issues with the console locking up while driving and playing music through the USB port. The navigation froze and the radio would play the same two seconds of the same song over and over. At that point, you cannot turn the volume down, or turn the radio off, or adjust anything on it. That scenario lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes and then the radio shuts down. (What a relief when it does!)) I was informed that I need a software update on the main computer, which I can get when I bring the car in for the next oil change. Currently, the car has about 7,500 miles on it. Additionally, I have noticed that when driving on the highway, I have to make frequent minor steering adjustments to stay in my lane. Although I have had many other vehicles, I rarely had to make such adjustments. It keeps me on my toes, especially when there are vehicles on both sides of me. However, I still love the car and would buy it again in a heartbeat. An update after two years of ownership: I still adore the Equinox, and it handles exceptionally well in the snow. I have not encountered any issues whatsoever!

I purchased this SUV 2 years ago with 60K miles on it. Since then, I have had to replace several parts, including the engine, blower door, tires, brakes, battery, and rear hydraulic shocks. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this vehicle. If you search online for 'Equinox blows cold air,' you will find many people who have experienced similar issues with their doors and have had to pay over $1000 to fix them. It may be best to avoid this vehicle altogether.

I recently purchased a brand new Chevy Equinox, but unfortunately, I have been experiencing some issues with mold, water damage, and a melted seat. Despite several visits to the shop, both Hampton Chevy and Priority Chevy have been unhelpful in resolving the issue or providing a refund. GM is currently involved, but the process has been frustrating. As someone with asthma and a husband who is a retired disabled firefighter, it's disappointing that they haven't taken our situation into consideration. Additionally, I have been left without transportation as they have refused to provide a rental car for this new vehicle with less than 1250 miles. I hope we can find a solution soon.

The Stabilitrak Off/Traction Control Off/Service Stabilitrak light keeps coming on, even after having the vehicle taken in 3 times. It is important to note that this warning could indicate a variety of issues with the vehicle. Despite this, I was able to make it 21 miles home from the service department before it came on again. It is recommended to thoroughly research this issue, as there are numerous complaints about it. It is unfortunate that GM has not taken action to address this ongoing problem.

I want to start by admitting that I may be a little biased, having come from a minivan that offered plenty of space and amenities that I just assumed were standard on all vehicles. To begin, I bought my Equinox based on different reviews I read and the commercials, which were very compelling. So, I take full responsibility for not looking closer and asking a few extra questions. Firstly, the gas mileage is not great. I tried using the 'eco' button, but it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. My 10-year-old minivan actually gets better gas mileage. Secondly, I was disappointed to find that the backseat does not have air vents. In order to cool off or heat up the car, you have to either freeze or burn the front passengers. This seems like an oversight. Thirdly, storage is limited, so if you're looking to grocery shop for a large family, this may not be the car for you. Fourth, I test drove a 2015 model but ended up buying a 2016, only to find that the CD player had been removed. I feel like this was designed to force customers to pay for Sirius XM, which I'm not interested in. Overall, I'm not completely satisfied with my purchase. However, I didn't give it a lower rating than three stars because I should have done more research beforehand.
