2006 Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.

The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.

Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

Then I had a red light. After it turned green and I began driving, the vehicle started wobbling and it was hard to control my position in the traffic lane. Other drivers avoided me, and slowed down to prevent an accident. At this point, I reached a reduced speed construction area. When I drove at about 20 mph, the vehicle wobbled even worse. The driver’s side wheel started going clunk, clunk., so I pulled into a gas station. The left front tire was low, but nowhere near flat. A man put some air in the tire and it held the air. At that point, I recognized that it was too dangerous to drive the vehicle again. Chevy roadside assistance took it to the nearest dealer, Mills Chevrolet. They will look at it on Monday 11/4/2022.

IN ADDITION, THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE MIST PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM SEEING OUT OF THE WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW WATER PUMP WAS NEEDED. THE MECHANIC FLUSHED OUT THE SYSTEM AND PLACED A NEW HEAT SYSTEM IN THE ENGINE WITH NEW ANTI-FREEZE. THE FAILURE RECURRED LATER THE SAME WEEK. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.

I love this vehicle! It has so many neat features. This is actually the first vehicle I've owned with a sunroof, which I enjoy very much. Plus, with a 5-star crash rating and dual-stage airbags, I feel much safer than I did in my previous SUV, a 2000 Blazer. And get this - on my first highway trip, I got 26 MPG, which is 6 MPG more than my old SUV!

I've had this car for 11 months and put 20K miles on it. I absolutely love it! It handles well on the highway and in congested city streets, with good pick up and handling. I haven't had any problems at all. With as much as I drive, it's nice that the gas mileage is good. My family and friends appreciate that the back seat has plenty of room and the seats are adjustable.

We bought this vehicle with our growing family in mind. It's the perfect size for parking, weekend trips, and everyday driving. The cargo room is great, the interior is functional, and the exterior styling is fantastic. I especially love that it doesn't look like every other SUV out there! We haven't had any problems with it at all.

I purchased this car second-hand after it had been sitting in the mountains of California for nearly a year or two. The previous owner sold it to me because they bought a bigger car. At the time of purchase, the car had about 120,000 miles on it. As a daily driver, we have taken it on many adventures, including camping trips, river and fishing spots in Nevada and California, and even through the mountains during snowstorms. After buying the car, I immediately had it serviced since I was nervous about its condition. Surprisingly, the cost of getting everything checked out, including the brakes and oil and fluids replaced, was only $340. I had no issues transferring the title from California to Nevada. A few weeks ago, I noticed the coolant was low, so I filled it up. The car started rattling a bit when I turned it on, but after putting in fuel cleaner, I read that the rattling could be from the gas I put in. I'm crossing my fingers that we can keep this amazing little family car going for a few more years, especially since we already have all our camping trips planned out. With the number of miles we've put on it since March, I definitely think we're overdue for an oil change, but I'm not worried about the sound. I know the mechanic we go to will be able to take a look at it and get it changed. Hopefully, we can make it past 200,000 miles, and I'm thinking we might even be able to break 280,000 before we retire her. I'm trying to be team Chevy and hope we can truly break 350,000 miles, but with fewer daily driver miles and more vacation miles.I drive 90 miles a day, partly on the freeway and partly on back roads and through town, including 10-15 miles to and from the store while running errands. I often catch myself going 80 in the 70mph zones because the car is so comfortable and easy to drive that you don't even notice you're speeding. The car has some get up and go, even with four people in the car and a back full of camping supplies, but I don't like to push it if I don't have to. When napping before going into work, the seat isn't too comfortable, but laying it all the way back and curling up on my side isn't too bad. Falling asleep while driving is not an option, but the car seat fits just fine on either side with plenty of leg room for everyone. The only issue we seem to have is with the passenger door, which sometimes gets jammed if you lean on it. It was an easy fix and the auto body shop didn't even charge me for it. The window buttons are a little sticky and finicky, but I do have a six-year-old who likes to climb all over my seats when getting out, so I like to think she's just rough on my car.

I bought this car brand new and unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. The check engine light came on a year later and the car wasn't running properly. The dealer informed me that the coolant system needed to be replaced and it took 10 days for Chevy to manufacture the parts. Since then, I have had to replace the coolant system 5 times in 4 years. Recently, I discovered that the engine was the root of the problem, not the coolant system. With 76K highway miles, I now need a new engine because Chevy failed to correctly identify the issue. I also experienced some trouble with the car flooding when it rained and had to replace the starter twice. Overall, I have had some challenges with this car, but I am hopeful that Chevy will be able to help me resolve these issues.

I purchased this car from someone who had kept all the maintenance receipts and was informed that there were little to no issues. However, I have come to realize that this car has some drawbacks. Firstly, the center console is not very user-friendly as it is difficult to retrieve items that fall between the seats. Additionally, the location of the cupholders is not ideal, and the power jack (cigarette lighter) is in an awkward position. Occasionally, I have to tap the gas when starting the car. Furthermore, I have had to replace/repair the brakes five times due to a tapping noise when stopping and a terrible grinding noise when stopping in reverse. Interestingly, I have only come across one other review that mentions this issue.

The car has had a recall in 2006 and some parts have been fixed multiple times. However, the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem until I showed them. Despite this, I was told that nothing was wrong. Although the car feels unstable, I am confident that it will not stop running while I am driving. I am currently looking to sell the car. It is important for GM to prioritize the safety of their customers. I would not recommend purchasing this car.

We used the NHTSA and FuelEconomy.gov websites to narrow our search. Unfortunately, we found that their ratings were not accurate. For example, my son tapped a deer one night and the headlight lens didn't even break, but it still cost us $5500. Additionally, we've had to replace the tires three times in just 75k miles. The vehicle is quite noisy and only gets about 14mpg, which is disappointing. Even my 2007 3/4 ton 4WD Diesel has a tighter turn radius. The seats are also uncomfortable and easily stained. Despite these issues, we remain hopeful that we can find some redeeming qualities in this vehicle.
