2024 Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.
An all-electric battery-powered, or BEV version called the Equinox EV was introduced in 2022 with sales starting in 2023 for the 2024 model year. It adopts a separate design and underpinnings from the internal combustion engine powered Equinox.
First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

- Summary: Intermittently, when you start the car, the computer or infotainment system does not work properly. For example starting the car today, the backup camera worked normally until my phone connected. When my phone connected the grid showing me what direction I was going based off of the way the wheel was turned disappeared. No matter what I did I could not get the grid back. This is one of many examples. When this is occurring all functions are extremely slow. For example I got into the car this afternoon and didn't want to hear the radio so I hit mute, the button did nothing. Then I turn the volume down, again it did not go down. Then I hit the phone call button on the steering wheel and again nothing. This seems to consistently happen when you first start the car while on Android phone connects to Android Auto. After a few moments while I'm driving, I am startled because suddenly the volume mutes and then unmutes and then goes down and then goes back up... Basically everything I pressed several moments ago suddenly happens like it's been sitting in a queue indefinitely. When the car is like this, if somebody calls me on the phone the Bluetooth is very garbled or if I use the navigation that's in Android Auto, again everything's very garbled and time delayed. The problem seems to resolve itself sometime around 5 to 10 minutes after I start driving so it only happens when you first start the car and it does not happen every time. The fact that this affects just about every system and the time delay causes things to happen when you're trying to focus on driving makes this a very unsafe situation. I called two local dealers who basically said that they'd be happy to check it out but if there's nothing wrong that general motors will cover, then I have to pay for their time to even look at it. Since it doesn't happen every time, I'm not willing to do that but this is a serious safety concern. I search for similar problems on Google and there are many reported.

- Summary: The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that on two separate occasions, the brake pedal depressed the floorboard without warning and failed to slow down as needed. During the second failure, the contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, the vehicle initially accelerated upon depression of the brake pedal before the vehicle started to slow down. As the contact depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard; the vehicle failed to brake in time and crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 40 MPH and attempting to make a left turn, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond, causing his wife to make the left turn at 40 MPH uphill. The contact stated that the vehicle decelerated as his wife was driving uphill. The contact stated that his wife then pulled into a driveway and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that upon restarting the vehicle, several unknown warning lights illuminated temporarily however, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure had occurred due to loss of communication with the electric brake system control module and the electronic brake control module. The dealer determined that the software was outdated and needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that he was concerned that the vehicle was unsafe to drive due to the premature failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

I got the Equinox LS about a month ago, so I can't speak to its reliability yet. However, I can say that the overall drive comfort and feeling is much better than my previous Nissan Rogue. The Equinox does a much better job at dampening bumps and rough roads, making it feel like a much higher quality SUV than its cost would suggest. Overall, I would highly recommend that people at least test drive the Equinox.

I bought the 2023 Premier version in July 2023 and it had everything I needed. The ride was comfortable and it gave me the confidence I needed with its powerful engine. However, after only 5 weeks and 1360 miles, I encountered a problem. While at the store, I started the car with my foot on the brake pedal and it immediately went to the floor. Several warning lights came on and I tried restarting it, but the same thing happened. The brakes were barely working when my foot was to the floor. I contacted OnStar and they sent me the codes, one of which was for the power boost brakes. The next morning, I took it to the dealer and they found that the warning lights were still on even though the brakes were working. The dealer contacted GM, but they only suggested to clear the codes and have me drive it. The dealer didn't think that was a good option and is now trying to replace the master cylinder. Unfortunately, it's been 8 weeks and the part is still not available. As a result, I cannot drive this car anymore as it is unsafe. GM has failed me on many levels and I cannot imagine driving this car anymore.

I recently received an Equinox LT as a fleet vehicle and I have some concerns about it. The interior design and technology seem a bit outdated for a 2023 model, and the 1.5L engine can feel underpowered at times, especially when coming off the Auto Stop feature. Additionally, the fuel economy could be better. As a mom of three, I was disappointed to learn that the car has a poor IIHS rating for rear seat occupant safety due to the lack of headrests for all three seats. However, I believe that there are many other great options in this segment to consider. Thank you for considering my feedback.

The Chevy product in question has several areas that require improvement. Specifically, the all-wheel-drive system, engine performance, fit and finish, interior, entertainment interface and screen, handling, and transmission all fall short of expectations. These issues must be addressed in order to meet the high standards of quality and performance that customers demand.

Overall, I had a good experience with the car. It has a nice package and provides a good ride. The crash tests were also good. However, I did experience some issues with the brake booster system failing three times in less than six months when the outside temperature was below freezing. This resulted in three tows and General Motors reimbursing for a long car rental. Although two different Chevy dealers reset the warning lights, they were unable to pinpoint the cause despite all the warning lights generating codes. As a result, I have concerns about the car's safety and reliability. It's unfortunate because the 2022 model of the same car was near perfect. I appreciate Chevrolet customer support and the attentive dealer management. I hope that the dealer will be given a factory fix, and if not, the car will be replaced or refunded.
