2014 Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.
An all-electric battery-powered, or BEV version called the Equinox EV was introduced in 2022 with sales starting in 2023 for the 2024 model year. It adopts a separate design and underpinnings from the internal combustion engine powered Equinox.
First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

All of these codes are between the Crankshaft position, variable timing position and high pressure fuel issues. I almost wrecked my SUV because of these 3 factors and I have seen thousands of videos on YouTube with other people having the same issues. This is beyond dangerous to be out on the road driving and these codes pop up causing "Reduce Speed" warnings and "Stabilitrak". This will be the 2nd time I've had to replace the Crankshaft position sensor and Variable Timing Solenoid, along with a brand new timing kit that I had put on right after I bought the car over a year ago, that is now in need of repair. There has to be some way that Chevrolet can fix these issues for those of us who buy their vehicles. They are supposed to be safe, dependable, durable and last longer than what they do before they start having all of these issues. I have had so many problems with the last 2 Equinox's that I have owned and each one of them have all had the same error messages pop up within a year or less of driving them, some have lasted over a year. I as a vehicle owner should not be held responsible for these kinds of issues going on in a vehicle that I still owe for. Chevrolet needs to understand and take care of their customers to prevent accidents from happening, vehicles from breaking down after short periods of time and replace/repair these malfunctions at their cost so that people like me don't keep going out here spending hundreds of dollars for the same fix after a year or 2 replacing, and it sometimes still not even fix the problem. There are so many others out here with the same exact issues that I am having, P0016, P0017, P0089 and 228D codes all dealing with fuel, vehicle speed, Stabilitrak, etc. Something has to be done about this and there has to be a way where they can be fixed for longer than 50,000 miles

Engine was running with no oil and cause pistons to misfire and vehicle began stalling with my young children in the vehicle. Piston damage has caused metal shavings to enter engine and engine now needs to be replaced with 61,000 miles on the vehicle. My safety and my children’s safety was risked with no warning and no indication there was any issue, which could have resulted in an engine fire. Two different repair shops said this is a common issue with the equinox and has been involved in class action lawsuits in other states for models 2008-2017. I have called the dealership which resold the vehicle to me used knowing there was an issue and didn’t disclose any information regarding this and they have refused to do anything for me except for so the repairs and have me pay out of pocket because they say there is no issue large enough for a recall.

This is a known problem with 2010-2014 chevy equinox and a special coverage was issued in 2015, but not all affected vehicles were included in this special coverage, but my vehicle was not included even though the model, year, mileage, and specific issue are all the same as other equinox's that do fall under this special coverage. The special coverage needs to be extended to additional vehicles and Chevy will not address this complaint from me directly. The safety issue is that this problem was going on for months, but the check engine light did not go off to alert me of an issue. I noticed a sound when the vehicle was idling and when my car was suddenly not making it to the next scheduled oil change without being extremely low on oil. Had I not noticed the sound or checked my oil level on the spot (which the average consumer may not due) my engine would have seized up on the highway because it was down 3 quarts even though I had a recent oil change. The car does not make it between standard oil change time frames of 3,000-4,000 miles due to the heavy oil consumption from the defective pcv valve.

- Summary: “Check engine” light came on recently (September 30th) accompanied by a rattling noise and smell of something burning inside the vehicle. Stopped at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts to have them pull the code before heading to auto shop. Code pulled was P0014 stating issue with exhaust camshaft. Took vehicle to Techway Automotive shop for diagnostic and let them know the code that was pulled at O’Reilly’s. Mechanic completed diagnostic and stated vehicle is consuming oil rapidly causing the engine pistons to “come apart”, specifically the piston rings and seals due to the high oil consumption and that the engine will give out sooner or later, worse case scenario the engine will blow or will cause a fire. Mechanic stated this is a common issue with these vehicles and it cannot be repaired, only complete engine replacement will “fix” the issue but would still require frequent oil level checks every 1000 miles or less. Burning smell and loss of power is very concerning to myself and passengers safety. I have found multiple accounts from others with the same year, make, model and engine type dealing with the same issues or worse. Several have already experienced the worst of it which is their engine catching fire. I was unaware of this being an ongoing issue until it happened to me and I started finding all of these other accounts of the same issues but no sign of recall for this vehicle even though there appear to have been recalls and class action suits filed for older and newer vehicles of the same make and model with similar issues. This needs to be addressed and repaired or fully compensated by the manufacturer since they have been aware of this problem since their 2010 models.

- Summary: Purchased car used in April 2020. Noticed the first month issues with oil consumption. In December 2020 the dealership replaced the motor with a “new” motor and the car also needed a new catalytic converter. Warranty on “new motor” was 3 month or 3,000 mile warranty. Car mileage was 121,000 when motor was replaced. Now motor is at around 150,000 and motor stopped while driving. Everything in the car completely shut down on me while I was on the road. Both motors would consume all my oil within 1,000 miles. No one could tell me where the oil was going or what was continuing to happen to the catalytic converters. Purchased a brand new motor with 0 miles on it for $5,800 not counting cost to have it installed. Also had to purchase another catalytic converter. Since I have purchased this car no low oil light or anything to warn me about the oil has never came on in the car. One time 700 miles after changing the oil, I checked the oil on my own, no lights or anything, and there was not a drop of oil in the car. This car is dangerous. People need to be warned before they purchase one that there are no warnings on the oil or the motors. This car has been a nightmare since I purchased it and I’m stuck with it because of being “upside down” on the vehicle and having to pay out of pocket for so many repairs.

Fixing a timing chain issue is NOT cheap, nor should it be the responsibility of any chevy equinox owner seeing as how there are so many other people who share the SAME issue, like duh. obviously, this is a manufacturer defect. - Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2015 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles. The ball joints in the windshield wiper module may corrode, causing one or both windshield wipers to fail.
- Consequence: Inoperative windshield wipers can reduce visibility in certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect the wiper module, and repair or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on April 21, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2022. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212352530.

I absolutely love my 2014 Equinox! It's such a fun vehicle to drive and the engine is fantastic. Plus, it gets great gas mileage which is always a plus. I've only had mine for a couple of months, but I can honestly say that I have no complaints so far. If you're in the market for a new car, I highly recommend test driving the Equinox to see just how well it handles. Hi there! Over the last 3 years, we've had some great luck with this product. The only downside we've noticed is that there are no rear vents for AC and heat, and the noise level can be a bit too loud. Thanks for considering this feedback!

I purchased a 2014 Chevy Equinox 2LT, 4 cylinder front wheel drive three weeks ago. The listed price was $33,800 and the current mileage is 1,400. As a supporter of American-made products, I decided to give GM another try after some positive reviews of similar vehicles. Unfortunately, my experience with this car has been less than satisfactory. I have encountered several issues with it, including being stranded on the road twice within the first 1,400 miles of ownership.

Although the initial experience with my 2014 Equinox was disappointing, I have come to appreciate its dependability and low maintenance. Despite some challenges with the driver's seat and console, I have learned to adapt and make the most of its features. While the passenger side may be a bit difficult to access, the vehicle has proven to be a reliable choice over the past 5 years.

I purchased my car brand new in 2014 and it ran smoothly for the first few years. However, by the third year, the check engine light came on and I took it to the dealer. They changed the camshaft sensors and explained that this car burns a lot of oil, which was concerning. Despite my worries, the service department assured me that everything was under warranty and that there was no need to worry. Unfortunately, this issue occurred two more times before the warranty expired in 2019, with the car only having 87K miles on it. The service department informed me that I needed a Catalyst Converter and that I would also need to change my timing soon, but they did not provide an explanation as to why this was necessary. GM offered me a discount to repair the car, but only if I fixed it immediately. The General Manager even suggested that I buy another car with a warranty, which was not helpful. I was disappointed with the service and the quality of the car, and I have decided not to purchase another Chevy. Despite this experience, I still believe that GM is a good brand, but unfortunately, this particular car did not meet my expectations.

Hello, I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out regarding my recent purchase of a vehicle from your dealership. I had specifically asked the sales person/manager about the ability of this vehicle to go up my gravel driveway, as it has several flat areas and turns. Unfortunately, I have had some trouble with the vehicle spinning out on the incline and reversing up the slight incline out of cover. I have researched extensively online but have only found information about driving down similar inclines. I am disappointed that the vehicle has not met my needs, especially after spending over a month researching and test driving different vehicles. However, I have always had a positive experience with your dealership and staff, and I am hoping to discuss the possibility of trading this vehicle for one that better suits my needs. On a separate note, I have been having some trouble operating the Infotainment system and would appreciate any assistance in connecting my iPod to the speakers via the USB port in the center console.
