2009 Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.

First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

THERE ARE OTHER 2009 GMS THAT HAVE RECALLS ISSUED. A BODY SHOP TOLD US WE SHOULD CONTACT THE DEALER FOR AN ESTIMATE BECAUSE THERE WERE RECALLS ON THEIR AIRBAGS BUT THE DEALER SAID THERE ARE NONE. I'M TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A FREE ESTIMATE AFTER NOTIFYING THEM THE CRACK HAS BEEN DEVELOPING FOR SOME TIME AND WE'VE BEEN WAITING ON A RECALL.

THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.

I bought my 2009 Equinox to replace a 2002 Trailblazer. I absolutely love this vehicle, although I wish it had more room in the back to haul things. Unfortunately, I can't fit four golf bags and four golfers. Other than that, I think it's a fantastic vehicle, very well equipped with options.

This car is definitely a great choice for me. I appreciate having a bit of extra space without having to spend more money on a truck. It has proven to be very dependable for me over the past year, even with just routine maintenance.

You've owned this SUV since new for 18 months and it's been a great ride! The mileage is impressive on the highway and the general comfort is as good as any in its price/vehicle type category. However, there are a couple of things that could be improved. Firstly, the road noise on the highway is a bit higher than expected. Secondly, the lack of a dash mounted rear hatch release control can be a bit annoying. Overall, it's a very roomy and functional SUV in its class.

I've been driving the Equinox for 6 months now and I'm happy to report that I'm getting 24 MPG on the road! As someone who has owned Tahoes for 15 years, I can confidently say that this Equinox has just as much acceleration as those larger vehicles. And the best part? I haven't had a single problem with the car in the first 6 months - no repairs or replacements needed!

Although it has many good features, it has proven to be quite unreliable. The battery needs to be charged by driving long distances or leaving it running, which can be inconvenient if you make frequent short stops. Unfortunately, the dealer has been unable to identify the problem. Additionally, the console can be awkward to use when there are two people in the car. The defrosters and most vents bring in outside air from across the engine, which can cause eye irritation and congestion due to the toxins from the engine. Even my small pickup has a better turning radius. I have decided to trade it in for a different make than Chevrolet, even though it will result in a loss. Thank you for your understanding.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with the 2006 model that I bought off the showroom floor. Overall, I really liked the interior and exterior look of the car, and the gas mileage is pretty decent. There are also lots of options available, which is great. However, I did have some issues with the electrical system - it never worked quite right, and even after getting it fixed under warranty, other electrical components started failing. The cup holders aren't the best, and the turning radius is pretty wide, so it can be a bit tricky in parking garages. Another thing to watch out for is that the tailgate lift hydraulics tend to go bad pretty quickly, and they're quite expensive to replace. Unfortunately, mine went bad less than two years after I bought the car, and now, two years later, they're bad again. The brake components also went bad pretty quickly, so that's something to keep in mind. On the plus side, the cargo room is really nice for its class, and there's plenty of leg space in the backseat. I have only owned Honda or Ford SUVs. When I purchased my Chevy in July 09, I looked at and test drove several models and read reviews. This particular model was the last one on the lot, and I loved it in the beginning. However, I have experienced a few issues since then. Firstly, the Onstar battery had to be replaced. Secondly, there is a knocking noise when I turn the steering wheel. I have been to the dealership three times to address this issue. The first two times, they couldn't hear anything, and the last time they heard a slight noise, but they were unable to explain why I continue to hear this noise. I don't want the hassle of going through the lemon law, and I am disappointed that I have to pay for a vehicle that feels like a piece of crap. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with a negative impression of Chevy, and I don't think I will be purchasing from them again.
