2015 Chevrolet Equinox problems
The Chevrolet Equinox is a crossover SUV introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It was intended to be a replacement for the North American Chevrolet Tracker and Chevrolet S-10 Blazer. The third-generation Equinox also replaced the first-generation Chevrolet Captiva.
An all-electric battery-powered, or BEV version called the Equinox EV was introduced in 2022 with sales starting in 2023 for the 2024 model year. It adopts a separate design and underpinnings from the internal combustion engine powered Equinox.
First generation (2005)
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in 2004 at the 2003 North American International Auto Show for the 2005 model year.
The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in 2005 at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show for the 2006 model year.
Riding on the GM Theta platform, the unibody is mechanically similar to the Saturn Vue and the Suzuki XL7. However, the Equinox and the Torrent are larger than the Vue, riding on a 112.5 in (2,858 mm) wheelbase, 5.9 in (150 mm) longer than the Vue. Front-wheel drive is standard, with optional all-wheel drive. They are not designed for off-roading unlike the truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
For the 2006 model year, GM updated the Equinox for the first time, adding GM badges on the front doors, as well as recoloring the dashboard panel from grey to black. For 2007, the instrument cluster got a redesign with a trip computer display, replacing the Saturn-sourced unit.
The first-generation Equinox and Torrent were produced exclusively at the CAMI Automotive GM/Suzuki joint venture plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada. The 3.4 L LNJ V6 engine is made in China (by Shanghai GM), while the Aisin AF33 transmission is made in Japan. Starting with the 2008 model year, the Equinox Sport and Pontiac GXP were available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that was made in the United States.
Production ended in May 2009.
The Chevrolet Equinox was not sold in Mexico during the 2009 model year.

- Summary: On the morning of 7/1/24, I drove my vehicle to work as usual. There were no exceptional incidences and the only warning light on the dashboard was that of a malfunctioning tire sensor. I parked at my job as usual. There were no signs of overheating or smoking and there were no warning lights on the panel except for what was previously mentioned. That evening, as I was leaving, the car started and stopped after driving about 2 yards. It would not start again afterward and I wound up having it towed to my mechanic. He told me that I had no oil and that the engine was irreparably damaged and would need to be replaced. Again, there were no warning lights on the dashboard alerting me of low oil or engine overheating prior to this incident. As a matter of fact, the check engine light did not turn on either. Of course this would happen just as I finished paying off the car. So now I am forced to spend $3k+ to replace the engine. It is a shame that so many people are having the same issue with this make/model and Chevy should make reparations to those that have been affected.

- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of one or both of the side impact air bags, the air bag's inflator may rupture and the air bag may not properly inflate. The rupture could cause metal fragments to strike the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death. I bought this car in 2016 with only 12k miles on it. Now, it has 106k miles on it, but the only repair I had to make was for the windshield wiper motor last year. Fortunately, GM reimbursed me for it due to a recall that happened a month or so later. Although I mostly drive around town, I've also taken it on the highway a few times. Regular maintenance has been a key factor in keeping it in great condition. As part of the routine 100k mile maintenance, I replaced the spark plugs, serpentine belt, and tensioner. I don't want to jinx it, but so far, it's been a great ride.

I love this SUV! It's perfect for my family of four, always on the go. There's plenty of space for a smaller SUV, and so far, I haven't had any problems with it (fingers crossed).

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you were interested in the Trail Blazer, but unfortunately they were discontinued in 2009. However, I wanted to let you know that I traded my 2005 Trail Blazer for a 2015 Equinox and it has been an amazing investment. I'm happy to report that my Equinox still has the original battery!

I regret not sticking with a GMC, but I decided to purchase a smaller SUV. Although it drives fine for my short commutes, the radio quality is subpar and the blower on the heater/air is quite loud. Additionally, the storage box in the back of the car blocks outside sounds, which is an unnecessary feature. The design of the second row of seats is also impractical, causing my boxes to shift while driving. Despite these issues, I plan to trade in the car, even though I may not receive a fair value due to its low mileage.

I purchased this car in February 2017 and took it to a Chevrolet dealership for an oil change. I'm very particular about who I trust with my car, so I wanted to make sure it received special treatment. However, after the oil change, the engine check light came on later that night. I hoped it would go off, but unfortunately, it didn't. The next day, the car shut down while I was running errands, but thankfully, it started back up a few minutes later. On January 10, 2018, I was on my way to work when the car suddenly stopped in the middle of the road. I was stuck there for a few minutes, but eventually, the car started again, and I made it to work on time. With only 48,000 miles on the car, I shouldn't be experiencing these issues.

I've been driving this vehicle for almost 4 months now. I decided to switch to the Chevy line because I wanted to buy American, but unfortunately, I'm not happy with my decision. I live in Northern Virginia, so most of my driving is in the city, but I also frequently visit my parents and boyfriend, which requires highway driving. Despite my efforts to drive conservatively, I'm only averaging between 16-19 mpg, which is much lower than I expected. I feel embarrassed to drive a vehicle that gets such low mileage, and I never would have switched if I knew this was going to be the case. The engine also sounds terrible, and it struggles to pick up speed. I've talked to other Equinox owners, and they all agree that the gas mileage is a major issue. One lady even had to replace her engine because it burned out due to excessive oil consumption, and her vehicle is barely a year old. Despite these issues, there are some things I like about the car, such as the comfortable seats and spacious interior. However, the itchy material on the seats and the highly reflective trim around the gear shifter are minor annoyances. Overall, I'm disappointed with the gas mileage, but I do appreciate some of the car's features.Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I've logged a complaint with Chevy. The Equinox falls significantly short of expectations, especially for the price, compared to other SUV/CUVs. Despite having lumbar support and power on the driver side, the seats were uncomfortable and the seated experience was not satisfactory. The MyLink system in the center console was abysmal and too complicated to use while driving. The road noise was also quite noticeable, which is not ideal for a FWD. Overall, the car was disappointing in pretty much every way, especially when compared to equivalent vehicles from other manufacturers. Chevy needs to take a long look at their competitors' inventory to improve the value for money of their products.

Despite having only 36,500 miles on my 2015 car, I have experienced major issues with it. The engine started making a noise, which the dealer was unable to identify. Upon checking the oil, I discovered that the car had no oil in it. The dealer redid the oil, but a week later, while driving on the freeway, I lost speed and could not go over 10 miles. This SUV has always had problems with pick up speeds and the eco boost does nothing for the car's gas mileage. Currently, my car is at the dealer with transmission problems. While this was my first GM car, I cannot say that I would purchase another one.
