Volvo Xc90 problems
The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.
The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic).
At the end of 2014, the second generation XC90 was introduced. It is based on a new global platform, the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Both generations of the XC90 have won Motor Trend's SUV of the Year award in their debuts.
In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90.

- Electrical System Malfunctions: The electrical system in the XC90 has also been a source of frustration for some owners. Problems include sudden loss of power, faulty warning lights, and electronic glitches.

- Water Leaks: Water leaks are another issue that some XC90 owners have reported. These leaks can cause damage to the vehicle's interior and may lead to electrical problems if not addressed promptly.

- Airbag Malfunctions: There have been recalls for airbags that may not deploy correctly during a collision in certain XC90 models. These recalls affect models produced between 2015 and 2017.
- Software Issues: Software issues have been reported in some XC90 models, including problems with the vehicle connectivity module (VCM) that sends location information to the emergency services after a collision.
- Seatbelt Malfunctions: Some XC90 models have had issues with front seatbelt buckles that may separate during a collision, leading to a reduced level of protection for occupants.
While Volvo as a brand ranks well in terms of reliability, some individual model years and components of the XC90 have had more issues than others. Potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider them when making their purchasing decision. Traded in my Mercedes GLE 350 for it and couldn’t be happier! When driving around town, I typically average 80-100mpg. It’s even more comfortable, sportier, and more luxurious than either our previous GLE or BMW X5. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.

I've had the pleasure of driving both the 2.5T and T6 and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. The vehicles were incredibly comfortable, with ample leg and elbow room for even my 6-foot frame. The T6 has a sports car-like zoom at highway speeds, while the 2.5T feels like a rocket ship off the line. At around 30mph, the T6 really dominates and runs away, but the 2.5T feels more sporty. The ride was smooth as silk in both vehicles. It's truly amazing how spacious the car is inside, yet it drives and responds almost like a sports sedan.

Absolutely beautiful, inside and out. Rides great, and the seats are amazingly comfortable. While there isn't a spot specifically for your phone for Apple Play, there are plenty of other convenient features. The center console screen controls everything, which can take some getting used to, but once you do, it's a breeze to use. Overall, I haven't had any issues with this car.

I recently traded in my 2021 XC90 T8 for a 2024 T8 and I must say, it's even better than the previous model! All the little quirks have been ironed out and the charging pad that I previously complained about is no longer an issue. The navigation has been replaced with Google Maps, which is a great improvement. The dashboard has been upgraded and the touch screen is now much easier to use. The XC90 was already a very comfortable and fast car, but the battery now has almost double the range, which is over 36 miles! The Bowers Wilkins sound system has also been upgraded and it sounds amazing. After looking at all the cars in this class, I can confidently say that the XC90 is currently the best three row SUV to choose.

Vehicle year: 2014
I've just owned the XC90 R-Design for a bit over a week, and I must say that it is one of the best-looking, most comfortable, spacious, versatile, and well-designed SUVs/crossovers on the market. Before deciding on the Volvo, I looked at EVERYTHING in the segment, and I can confidently say that it offers the most attractive package at a price that can't be touched by BMW, MB, Lexus, or Acura. As a loyal BMW owner, I was extremely pleasantly surprised by Volvo's offering. Although the XC90 is an aging design, the R-Design breathes new life into it.

My XC90 has had several issues, including the carpet falling down in the front seat, unattached outside window trim, and problems with the braking system such as loud noise and exhaust entering the car. Additionally, the anti-skid warning light kept coming on and the trim around the lock came off when unlocking the front door. Despite repeated trips to the dealership, the issues were not resolved. However, I am confident that I will find a suitable solution for my transportation needs.

Vehicle year: 2017
I recently finished my lease on a 2017 XC90 T6 Inscription AWD with the Polestar Package. Unfortunately, my experience with this car was not great. It required frequent software updates and even had a leaking exhaust system. Additionally, the build quality was subpar, with issues such as a misaligned rear driver's side door that caused excessive buffeting at highway speeds and rattling doors. The 21 inch wheels looked nice but negatively impacted ride quality, even with the air suspension option. Despite having experience with competing brands' systems such as iDrive, MMI, CUE, and Comand/MBUX, I found the Sensus system difficult to use due to the poor ride quality. The screen was laggy and had small icons, which made it frustrating to use the frequently used controls such as climate control and seat heating/ventilation. It was also disappointing that the car lacked power folding second and third row seats, as well as a power steering column adjustment. Another design flaw was the placement of the rear climate controls, which were often interfered with by the front passenger's elbow, causing the fan to go full blast and create excess noise in the already loud cabin. The fan speeds were not gradual enough, resulting in either full blast or no air flow at all. Lastly, I had to deal with whistling air vents in the front row throughout the lease. Overall, I would not recommend this car.The Pilot Assist feature was one of the reasons I chose this car, but unfortunately, I lost trust in it when it almost pulled me into a division wall on the freeway without warning. Additionally, the front emergency braking activated on its own a few times in the last few months, even when there was no immediate danger of an accident. As a result, I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle, let alone with my family. I have since switched to a different brand, and I am much happier now.

I was thrilled when I first leased the 2020 XC90. The comfort and drive really lived up to its name. Unfortunately, just two weeks in, one of the tires popped, but it was quickly fixed. Less than a week later, the brakes needed to be replaced. Despite these setbacks, I still appreciate the car. Although, sometimes I do miss my Nissan Rogue!

We purchased our TX90T8 for $84k about a year ago, but unfortunately, we've had some issues with it. We've had to take it to the shop twice for a total of 30 days to fix problems with the hybrid system. The car displayed a message saying 'Hybrid System Failure, take to dealer immediately' both times, and unfortunately, we were out of town on both occasions. The first time, we ran out of gas before we could get it to the dealer, and the car wouldn't restart, so we had to get it towed. The second time, we were lucky enough to have enough gas to get it to the dealer. We also had some trouble with the 'Park Assist' feature, which would intermittently shut off. Our dealer was able to determine that one of the sensors was broken and replaced it. Another time, my wife was driving with the kids when the car suddenly lost all power on the highway. Thankfully, she was able to safely pull over to the curb. She called the dealer, who advised her to 'turn the car off and then turn it back on', which worked. Overall, it hasn't been the best experience, especially considering we're only a year into owning the car.

If you're considering purchasing a 2008 Volvo XC90 V8, it's important to note that the alternators on these models have been known to fail. It may be worth looking into whether the alternator has been replaced before making a decision. Additionally, there are many other vehicles in this class that offer better reliability, comfort, safety, and sportiness at a more affordable price point. However, if you're interested in purchasing mine, please let me know. It's worth noting that this vehicle has been known to experience power loss at highway speeds, which could potentially leave you stranded.
