The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.

Consequence: An improperly tightened seat belt buckle may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing their risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the second-row seat belt buckle anchorage bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10259.

Consequence: The rear passenger may become trapped by the front seat without the ability to cancel the seat's movement, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Volvo Car will notify owners, and dealers will update the rear seat control display software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 14, 2021. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10093.

Summary: Volvo Car USA LLC (Volvo) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Volvo XC90, S90, V60, V60 Cross Country, V90, XC40, XC60, and V90 Cross Country vehicles. The software installed in the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may have an error causing the Telematics and Driver Support Systems to function improperly. As a result, the GPS will not provide location information to emergency personnel in the event of an emergency.
Consequence: If the GPS location is not provided to emergency personnel it can inhibit emergency response in the event of a crash or injury.
Remedy: Volvo will notify owners, and dealers will correct the software, free of charge. The recall began December 26, 2018. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo's number for this recall is R39917.

Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule for my 2018 Volvo, I encountered an issue with an oil leak. Upon inspection, the dealership claimed that the issue was due to a lack of maintenance and oil sludge build-up. However, I had changed the oil twice using 100 percent synthetic oil, which is what Volvo calls for, at a local oil change shop in my hometown. While the manual recommends using Volvo for servicing, it does not require it, and there was no indication that receipts needed to be kept. Despite providing bank statements and maintenance records from an actual Volvo dealership, the manufacturer denied my warranty claim. This lack of cooperation and trust has led me to pay off my lease early and trade in my vehicle for a different brand. It is unfortunate that the manufacturer was unwilling to work with me or the two Volvo dealerships who tried to help me resolve this issue.Unfortunately, it appears that the manufacturer is exploiting any possible loophole to avoid honoring your warranty and requiring you to pay for repairs out of your own pocket. This is a clear example of why consumers must be cautious.

This car looks luxurious both inside and out, but unfortunately, it has had some repair issues. I have owned two of them, and Volvo even bought back my first one. While I have had some problems with the car, I really like its features. I purchased the 2018 XC90 T8 Inscription, which is a plug-in hybrid, and have owned it for several months now. Unfortunately, my check engine light came on at 3,400 miles, and it has been in the shop for a week so far. The thermostat needs replacing, and the part is back-ordered, which means the repair estimate on my brand new vehicle is a minimum of two weeks, more like three weeks if I'm lucky. Despite these issues, I still appreciate the car's features. As for the gas pumping issue, I have had some trouble at certain gas stations, but overall it has not been a major problem.It looks like there have been some improvements with the newer XC90, but it seems that there are still some issues that need to be addressed, Volvo. Additionally, I've noticed that my seats are starting to squeak. If you're interested in beta testing a luxury SUV and paying full price, then this might be the SUV for you. However, if you're looking for a brand that values your time and won't require frequent trips to the dealership, you may want to consider other options.

I test drove this vehicle and found it to have a wonderful interior and nice exterior styling. The electronics and safety features are impressive. However, I did have some concerns about the drive train. The 14 mile all-electric range is not very practical, as it is more like 8 miles at best. Additionally, the gasoline powered range is not very impressive, with only 13 gallons of fuel capacity. The T8 is essentially a front wheel drive vehicle with an electric rear wheel drive assist, which may not be suitable for those who need to tow or carry heavy loads. That being said, it could be a good fit for someone who lives in the city and primarily uses their vehicle for short trips. With a full charge, the vehicle is fast from a standstill. The front armrests may be a bit short for taller drivers, and the ride with the optional wheels and tires can be a bit rough, even with the air suspension. Overall, there are many positives to this vehicle, but it can be quite expensive once you start adding options. Some dealers are selling them at or below invoice, and the extra $5002 in tax credit would be appreciated. However, the T6 may be a better value for some. By the way, I am considering getting another X5 diesel.

Great seating and space! The driving experience is comfortable and confident. However, I have experienced some reliability issues. In the first two years, I had to take it in for repairs more than three times each year, and the cause was always different. While the driving experience and comfortable seating are great, due to the reliability issues, I cannot recommend this car. My model is the 2018 XC90 T6.

Continued review after 2 years of ownership: I hope this message finds you well! I just wanted to share that I am still thoroughly enjoying my XC90. It has proven to be an exceptional vehicle for traveling with my wife and dogs. On the highway, I typically get between 25.4 and 27 miles per gallon, depending on how fast I am driving. The only time I have had to take it in for service was for the 10,000 mile check-up. Unfortunately, the Pirelli tires did not last as long as I had hoped, only about 30,000 miles. When I do decide to trade it in, I am considering upgrading to the T8 so that I can drive on battery in the city and save on fuel. In my opinion, the new generation XC90 is the best Volvo ever built and I would highly recommend it. Like many other Volvo owners, I have owned other premium vehicles and cross-shopped for the best value, durability, and drive-ability before choosing a Volvo. Having owned MB, Lexus, and other vehicles, I can honestly say that for all but one, my Volvos have been the most durable and reliable. I have driven this XC90 for 6,000 miles in all types of weather and driving conditions, both in town and on the interstate. Here are my thoughts on the pros and cons: PROS - 1) The drive-line is excellent. Don't let the fact that this SUV only has a supercharged/turbocharged 4 cylinder motor worry you. It is just as good, if not better, than competitors' 4 cylinder and some V6 motors. The engine is very strong with plenty of power for passing and getting on the highway. It is also fairly quiet, even under hard acceleration. The shifts are smooth and it is hard to tell when the transmission is shifting. I found the car to be very well-damped and smooth, even though I have the optional 21-inch wheels. 2) The MPG is as advertised, so there were no surprises there. 3) The ergonomics are in a class by themselves, as Volvo has always been known for their comfortable seating and the XC90 does not disappoint. Anyone who has owned German autos will know what I'm talking about because seats in MBs and BMWs are like sitting on concrete and become uncomfortable after a couple of hours. Thank you for taking the time to read my review!Audi seats are slightly more comfortable, but the closest comfortable seat to a Volvo is Lexus. The XC90 has all controls within easy reach. The second-row seating is comfortable, with the ability to recline the seat backs, plenty of knee room, and large foot-wells for people wearing bulky shoes or boots. The third-row seating is easily accessible, but it may not be spacious enough for adults. The SENSUS system is intuitive and easy to use. Take a couple of hours to learn the system, and you won't be disappointed with the information, audio, Wi-Fi, climate control (all three sections), navigation, forward and backup cameras, and more. The LED headlights (swiveling) and fog lights angles are enjoyable. The fog lights illuminate to each side of the vehicle extremely well. The interior lighting is fantastic, and the ability to change the colors and strength of the lights is a plus. The backup lighting is superb. It is great to have service covered instead of paying huge maintenance fees. The SUV has been bulletproof, with no rattles, squeaks, or groans in the cabin. There have been no problems with SENSUS. I call the cabin the 'cone of silence.' However, SENSUS can sometimes be slow to process upon initial start-up, taking up to 10 seconds for the software to wake up and all applications to activate. It would be better if the backup camera was not part of the infotainment system. Volvo would be wise to separate the camera from the rest of SENSUS. Setting up Wi-Fi connectivity through AT&T was not an easy online process, and I ended up spending an hour or more on the phone with an AT&T representative to get connected. That's all for now.Sounds like I'm writing an ad for Volvo with so few CONS, but truly, for me, this SUV is a delight to drive with no bad surprises. Most certainly, it's the best-built Volvo I have owned. By the way, Friendship Volvo in Bristol, TN, is one of the best Volvo dealers I have ever dealt with, both stateside and while I lived in Germany. Matthew Ratcliffe, the sales associate, is fantastic to work with, and the service department is exceptional (they have serviced 4 of my other Volvos).

The only downside to this car is the lack of power ports and cup holders. However, I must say that this SUV deserves a 5-star rating! I have driven it for 35,000 miles in various conditions, from snow to desert, from sea level to 13,000', and on interstates and backwoods roads, and it has never let me down. The safety systems have engaged more than a few times, possibly preventing accidents. I cannot praise this car enough. I look forward to seeing how it performs when it goes over 100k in 2 years.

The Volvo SUV is truly a remarkable vehicle. The luxury options are among the best in the market, and the interior design is so thoughtfully crafted around the driver that it's hard to believe more people haven't discovered it yet. The quality of materials is on par with Bentley, and the mix of leather, wood, and chrome dressings, highlighted with LED accents, is simply stunning. Although the shiny black plastic area tends to collect fingerprints easily, Volvo provides a cleaning cloth to keep it looking pristine. The seats are incredibly comfortable, with heat, cooling, and a massage option that you'll wonder how you ever lived without. Even the second-row seats recline and are super comfy. The built-in child booster seat is convenient for when you have family or guests. The $3200 Bowers & Wilkins audio system is like being in a live concert, where every detail is heard in crisp clarity without hurting your ears. If you love music, this alone could be reason enough to buy this SUV. I chose the hybrid option, which saves you $5k off the purchase price when you lease and gives you 15-18 miles of gas-free driving when plugged in. It adds extra power that makes this 6600lb car move very fast. I also love that it drives completely silent on the Pure or hybrid mode. The instrument display is great, and the main 9” Sensus central display is so easy to use and really thought through. It is so sensible and user-friendly that I am very impressed. Apple CarPlay works great, as does the Bluetooth option. The XM radio is amazing, and it has a Spotify app that uses the AT&T modem if you sign up for data service. I'm using the trial and have had a few issues with buffering, as there is no option to download a playlist like you can on a phone.I'm thinking of just using my iPhone with Spotify instead of paying for another device that costs $10/20 per month. I wanted to mention that the safety features are the best available. I absolutely love the auto steering feature that helps you stay in your lane during normal everyday driving. It watches the road lines and applies corrective steering automatically if you start to drift. The heads up display is also great. It gives you a warning if you are driving too close, or if it senses a forward collision (which it sometimes falsely does on curvy roads). It displays the current speed limit and warns you if you drive faster (you can adjust the warning speed too). These features help you to be a better driver. Overall, I'm so impressed and happy with my purchase. I sold my Porsche 911s to buy this vehicle and I would never go back! I also love that there aren't tons of these cars on the road and when friends hear I bought a Volvo, they don't have any idea how amazing it is. Everyone already knows that Volvos are the safest cars in the world, they just don't expect them to be this exceptional.

Absolutely beautiful, inside and out. Rides great, and the seats are amazingly comfortable. While there isn't a spot specifically for your phone for Apple Play, there are plenty of other convenient features. The center console screen controls everything, which can take some getting used to, but once you do, it's a breeze to use. Overall, I haven't had any issues with this car.
