- Summary: Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2015-2024 XC90 vehicles. The second-row seat belt buckle and lower belt anchor bolts may not be tightened properly.
- Consequence: An improperly tightened seat belt buckle may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing their risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the second-row seat belt buckle anchorage bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10259.

I was all set to buy the BMW X5 xDrive40e after reading great reviews and taking it for a test drive. However, I wanted to do my due diligence and compare it to other potential hybrid luxury SUVs. That's when I visited our local Volvo dealership and sat in the XC90 R design Recharge extended range model. I was blown away by the interior - it was so much nicer, cleaner, and more modern than the BMW. The seats and layout were the best I've seen in a vehicle. After taking it for a test drive, I was even more impressed. The 455HP engine was a rocket and the ride was smoother than the X5. Overall, the XC90 offered an impressive package with great quality, value, and luxury. It was an easy decision for me to choose the XC90 over the X5, especially since it offered more room and was more comfortable for my family. I also appreciated the sporty R design. Volvo's under the radar, easy-going approach and minimalist, clean designs won me over. The technology and safe drive systems are years ahead of rivals, yet they're kept simple and easy to operate with a touch screen and digital dash. The vehicle is truly smart and I'm currently getting 60-65 mpg as long as I charge it overnight (even on a regular 110V Garage charger). I'm truly impressed and have no second thoughts about this purchase - it's a phenomenal SUV!

The XC 90 Inscription had all the features we were looking for and more, without the outward appearance of high-end luxury. It's just a Volvo, not a Mercedes or BMW! Comfort was our first consideration, and the driving experience, visibility, heads-up display, and lane-keeping make longer drives a breeze. The seats in the car are amazing, and both the driver and passenger have the same control features, which is rare and a must! The interior quality is first-rate, with leather and wood, and the Harman Kardon stereo is superb. The car is equipped with every safety feature currently available and more. Recently, when the car detected a quick stop, the seatbelts retracted with modest force, pulling us back into the seats. It was a safety surprise! It's a big car that drives effortlessly, just like a midsize, but it's truly peppy. We were quite lucky connecting with Valenti Volvo of Watertown, CT. They were the only dealer that charged only $500 over invoice, not over list, but over invoice. All other dealers we visited (Kia, Ford, Subaru, etc.) were charging over list (with $5-10K typical), often with lengthy waits for a car that might be coming in. As promised, our car was delivered on Christmas Eve 2021, and they even provided a big red bow (like on TV). They were fantastic to work with. Long ago, we had a Volvo station wagon. Update as of 8/24/22: I am still thoroughly impressed with the XC90. It is an absolute pleasure to drive and incredibly comfortable. We are approaching our first oil change, and it will be the first time we have had to take our Volvo back to the dealer since we drove it off the lot. I have never owned a new vehicle that did not have to go back to the dealer to resolve an issue within the first six months, so this is a testament to the great quality, craftsmanship, and reliability of the XC90. The only minor issues I have are the center console storage being less than generous and the lack of cupholders. We traded in our XC60 with 24,000 miles and essentially got what we paid for it new in 2018. We used the money to purchase an XC90 because it has a more spacious cabin for our family. I knew I wanted the T6 engine with AWD in our XC90, having had some experience with Volvos. The T5 in our XC60 lacked some oomph, but the T6 is incredibly powerful for a 2.0 four-cylinder. Overall, I really like this vehicle, but I have had some trouble with the Pirelli tires. Unfortunately, this is the second vehicle I've owned that came with this brand of tires, and they have not lasted very long. I had to replace all four at just 25K miles. I believe there are better tires available that cost less and last longer. In my experience, these tires have not been very reliable.

Took delivery 3 weeks ago after owning the 2016 XC90. I'm absolutely loving the new hybrid! It's much quieter and smoother than my 2016, even without air suspension. I'm especially thrilled with the Pure electric mode, which has allowed me to complete my 10 mile round trip work commute without using any gas for the entire three weeks of ownership. The new Google interface of the infotainment system is also a much-needed improvement over the old system. It's so much easier to use overall, with easy access to temperature controls and a vastly improved navigation system using Google Maps. Overall, I'm really impressed with the changes for 2023 and the plug-in hybrid option. It's a significant improvement over my previous 2016 XC90.

This car has experienced some issues with the backup camera and sensors, as well as the entertainment system screen. The trim around the vehicle was also faulty, but it has since been replaced. While Volvo has acknowledged that there is a software update coming in April, I believe that customers should not have to wait for a potential solution. As a luxury car with a price tag of over $80,000, it is reasonable to expect a high level of quality and performance. I have owned two previous new XC90s and have not experienced these issues before. It is important for Volvo to address these concerns and ensure that their customers are satisfied with their purchase.

The Volvo XC90 has a great design and is very comfortable. However, I have experienced some mechanical and quality issues with the car. At 11,000 miles, the brakes went and rotors had to be replaced. Additionally, I had some trouble with the sunroof leaking water into the car, leaving a musty smell. The infotainment system sometimes blacks out while driving and isn't very responsive when trying to turn on heating seats, radio and temperature. The transmission had to be reprogrammed because it was sticking in gear and wouldn't downshift and hesitates. The engine is a bit unpredictable on power. Overall, the quality of the vehicle is poor. Although the looks and interior comfort are great, they only go so far. I only have 14k miles on the car and can't wait until the lease is up. I wouldn't choose to drive another Volvo.

Congratulations on your new 2022 Volvo XC90 Momentum 7 passenger 4wd! It's a great looking car with standard stereo, nav, and Sensus system, as well as all the standard driver safety tech. Although there were some issues with fit and finish, the dealer was unfortunately unable to fix them. Additionally, the blind spot monitor would come on randomly, even when no one was in the blind spot. The third row is best suited for children under 10, but overall it's a well-designed car. It's unfortunate that what was supposed to be a great car turned out to have some issues. At first, I was really happy with my purchase, but then I started experiencing some of the same problems that other reviewers have mentioned, such as battery and module issues. Unfortunately, I've had to leave the car at the service center three times for a total of almost two months due to difficulties getting parts. Since we don't live near the Volvo service center, this has caused some major inconvenience for us. Needless to say, we're disappointed with our experience and wish we had chosen a more reliable option to avoid these ongoing headaches.

The car has some areas for improvement. While the NAV may not be the most useful, I find that using Google maps on my phone works well. The cruise control can be a bit inconsistent, but generally stays within a reasonable range of the set speed. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get the HUD to display much information beyond the cruise setting and speed limit. Additionally, the 2” receiver is a clever feature, but it was too short for my bike rack and required some modification. Despite these issues, I am still considering my options and appreciate the reminder for my one year service. Thank you for your help!
