The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.

The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Summary: Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2015-2024 XC90 vehicles. The second-row seat belt buckle and lower belt anchor bolts may not be tightened properly.
Consequence: An improperly tightened seat belt buckle may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing their risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the second-row seat belt buckle anchorage bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10259.

Summary: Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2019-2022 V60CC, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. During steering gear assembly, double screws may have been assembled on top of each other, which can cause a screw to fall into the gearbox housing.
Consequence: A screw inside the gearbox housing can cause the steering wheel to lock up and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 1, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10213.

After experiencing two months of ownership, one of which was spent in the shop for repairs due to a faulty module responsible for switching between electric and fuel, I must say that I am disappointed. As someone who has owned 12 Volvos in my lifetime, I expected this car to be the crown jewel, but unfortunately, it has proven to be unreliable. Despite the nearly $80K price tag, the car sputters and only occasionally works as it should. I cannot recommend this car to others.

As a loyal Toyota driver, I was excited to try out my first luxury car. However, I've had a few issues with it in the first year of ownership. Despite the great fuel efficiency and comfortable ride, I've had to take it to the shop four times already. My previous Toyotas only needed standard maintenance, so this has been a bit frustrating. The first time I took it in, there was a shuddering jolt that happened multiple times, but no one could find anything wrong. After a few more incidents, Volvo acknowledged the problem but didn't have a solution yet. They eventually fixed it with an O-ring rebuild kit for the rear differential. A few months later, my airbag light went off while driving, but they couldn't find anything wrong. Then, I experienced a terrible shutter and lunge while driving, and my power steering light came on. After towing it to Volvo, they couldn't find anything wrong at first but eventually discovered it needed a major upgrade. Despite these issues, I still want to love my car and have invested in an extended warranty. However, I do worry about what will happen when it's out of warranty. I've never had to update my Toyotas, so this is a new experience for me.

I've had two BMW X5s in the past, both of which were well-equipped with features such as ventilated seats, heads up display, and adaptive cruise control. I recently purchased the XC90 T8, which comes with all of these features at the same price point as a new X5. However, I have noticed some differences in performance. For example, when I set the cruise control at 70 mph, the car tends to fluctuate between 67-72 mph. Additionally, the speed can only be adjusted in 5 mph increments. I also had some trouble with my Kuat bike rack not aligning with the holes in the factory hitch, but I was able to solve this issue with an extender. Unfortunately, the wireless charging pad has not been working properly and the HUD has limited information. Despite these issues, the car has a spacious and attractive interior and rides smoothly. Overall, I am happy with my decision to lease it, even though I still have 32 months left on the lease.

For a luxury car, this was a bit of a disappointment as it lacks or has faulty features. Many features that are normally included in even mid-level cars are either lacking or poorly executed. For example, the voice recognition is poor, and the valet remote cannot be reprogrammed or replaced. Additionally, the steering wheel adjustments are only manual, and the car does not light up when approaching, although the doors unlock. Unfortunately, there is no way to change this, and there is no automatic door locking on exit. The car is also way too noisy above 30mpg, and the computer interface is inadequate with a small screen. The rear hatch is too low even in the uppermost position, making it easy to hit your head, especially if you are tall like me (I am 6'4Lane keeping assist is a concern as it only activates when the tires are on the outer lane markings, causing the car to overdrive the lane marking and forcing active avoidance. It would be great if Volvo could improve this feature to maintain proper lane discipline. It seems that Volvo is a bit behind in terms of modern requirements compared to other brands like Honda, Acura, Infinity, Hyundai, and Lincoln. I apologize for the negative review, as I had high expectations for this car after passing on similar models like the Acura MDX AWD, Lincoln Nautilus Black Label, and Hyundai Genesis. However, after living with the car for over two years, I have become more accepting of its issues and have learned to deal with them. Poor mileage is still a concern, especially with high gas prices. As a car enthusiast and engineer working in the auto industry (although not for Volvo directly), I recently purchased a 2021 S60 and was so impressed that I also got an XC90 T5 for my wife. Over the past 30 years, we have owned various brands including Nissan, Infiniti, Honda, VW, BMW, and Cadillac, and have had no complaints about any of them. However, the history of Volvo's engines led me to choose the T5 trim for both our S60 and XC90. While there were some issues with premature engine rebuilds due to excessive oil burning in the early T5 engines from 2015-2018, these issues have been addressed with new piston rings and the new T5/T6 engines are usually flawless (except for some premature supercharger failures on the T6). I prefer the T5 (2023 mild hybrid and called B5) because it is a simpler engine design that has been in production for about 10 years now. Neither of our Volvos consume any appreciable amount of oil between oil changes. The T5 feels peppy enough as long as you're not driving a loaded car all the time. I recommend avoiding the Recharge (T8) due to numerous issues. The ride in the XC90 is great with no appreciable wind noise, and it is definitely the most solid car we have ever owned. The S60 is also very sturdy. Volvo has a ton of engineering safety features (real tangible things, not gimmicks) that are very unique and give them an advantage over every other brand. This was the main reason I bought my first Volvo. We usually keep cars for many years and so far it looks like these will be no exception. We have had no issues at all with either of our Volvos, just oil changes. It's important to note that the trim level matters, and the Recharge is a very complex car with new technology that works well but is not reliable. This applies to any other premium plug-in hybrid.Just be prepared to handle those issues and don't expect a vehicle with so much software and electronics to be as reliable as a pure gas car. I must say, the build quality is amazing. If you're a car enthusiast and work on them, you'll immediately notice that with Volvos. When you look under the car, it's a work of art. The organization of the components and quality of the build is second to none. The extensive use of aluminum is another indication that this car is definitely a premium vehicle.

The XC 90 Inscription had all the features we were looking for and more, without the outward appearance of high-end luxury. It's just a Volvo, not a Mercedes or BMW! Comfort was our first consideration, and the driving experience, visibility, heads-up display, and lane-keeping make longer drives a breeze. The seats in the car are amazing, and both the driver and passenger have the same control features, which is rare and a must! The interior quality is first-rate, with leather and wood, and the Harman Kardon stereo is superb. The car is equipped with every safety feature currently available and more. Recently, when the car detected a quick stop, the seatbelts retracted with modest force, pulling us back into the seats. It was a safety surprise! It's a big car that drives effortlessly, just like a midsize, but it's truly peppy. We were quite lucky connecting with Valenti Volvo of Watertown, CT. They were the only dealer that charged only $500 over invoice, not over list, but over invoice. All other dealers we visited (Kia, Ford, Subaru, etc.) were charging over list (with $5-10K typical), often with lengthy waits for a car that might be coming in. As promised, our car was delivered on Christmas Eve 2021, and they even provided a big red bow (like on TV). They were fantastic to work with. Long ago, we had a Volvo station wagon. I am thrilled with my new Volvo XC90. The base model is stunning and has every safety feature you could need. The ride used to be stiff and jittery, but the design was changed a few years ago and now it's just as smooth as a Mercedes. The comfort is even better than a Mercedes and the responsiveness exceeded my expectations. Overall, this car is an incredible value for what you get.

I absolutely love my 2022 XC90 Recharge! The quiet ride is amazing, and the stiffer feel is just what I was looking for. Even with 21The newer version, called extended range, can go 30 miles in PURE mode which would be better for me, but that's just how it goes. Everything else is still perfect, just like when I bought it. The dealer even did an oil change at 10k with no cost. I absolutely love driving it, especially in the snow. All the tech works and it has exceeded all my expectations. Although I would get higher overall mpg if I didn't take lots of long trips, that has nothing to do with the vehicle. An update: At 20k, the SUV still has no issues or problems. I will be going to the dealer next week for the 20k service. In summary, I am looking forward to my next Volvo. This one performs exactly as advertised. Another update at 2 years old with 32000 miles - No issues, runs just like new.

I was all set to buy the BMW X5 xDrive40e after reading great reviews and taking it for a test drive. However, I wanted to do my due diligence and compare it to other potential hybrid luxury SUVs. That's when I visited our local Volvo dealership and sat in the XC90 R design Recharge extended range model. I was blown away by the interior - it was so much nicer, cleaner, and more modern than the BMW. The seats and layout were the best I've seen in a vehicle. After taking it for a test drive, I was even more impressed. The 455HP engine was a rocket and the ride was smoother than the X5. Overall, the XC90 offered an impressive package with great quality, value, and luxury. It was an easy decision for me to choose the XC90 over the X5, especially since it offered more room and was more comfortable for my family. I also appreciated the sporty R design. Volvo's under the radar, easy-going approach and minimalist, clean designs won me over. The technology and safe drive systems are years ahead of rivals, yet they're kept simple and easy to operate with a touch screen and digital dash. The vehicle is truly smart and I'm currently getting 60-65 mpg as long as I charge it overnight (even on a regular 110V Garage charger). I'm truly impressed and have no second thoughts about this purchase - it's a phenomenal SUV!
