The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.

The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic).

At the end of 2014, the second generation XC90 was introduced. It is based on a new global platform, the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Both generations of the XC90 have won Motor Trend's SUV of the Year award in their debuts.

In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90.

Negative 2020 Volvo Xc90 car reviews

  1. Anthony Jakubowski 2024-11-23

I was thrilled when I first leased the 2020 XC90. The comfort and drive really lived up to its name. Unfortunately, just two weeks in, one of the tires popped, but it was quickly fixed. Less than a week later, the brakes needed to be replaced. Despite these setbacks, I still appreciate the car. Although, sometimes I do miss my Nissan Rogue!

  2. Lonnie Grant 2024-09-24

The XC90's performance left me disappointed after my test drive. While it is a nice looking ride, I found it to be unresponsive and underpowered. In my opinion, the trade-off for a 4-cylinder engine to save gas is not worth it. A V6 engine would greatly improve this SUV's performance. Perhaps Volvo will consider this for future models.

  3. Rodrigo Rice 2024-09-01

Since being owned by Chinese investors, some people feel that the quality of Volvo cars has decreased while profits have increased. Some believe that the XC-90 does not have the same level of safety and quality as earlier models produced under Ford. It has been reported that starting in 2022, all XC-90's will be assembled in South Carolina. We are currently exploring alternative options to replace our 2020 model in 2022.

  4. Gerald Beier 2024-02-17

If you're looking for precise control of your car, this might not be the best option for you. While it's sleek and aesthetically pleasing, it may not be the most practical choice in a bad storm due to its top-heavy and loose handling. However, I would recommend taking it for a test drive on city roads during a storm to see if you feel comfortable behind the wheel.

Positive 2020 Volvo Xc90 car reviews

  1. Maverick Boyer 2024-10-03

It sounds like you really appreciate the quiet ride, smooth braking, and speed!

  2. Ervin Rodriguez 2024-09-18

Love the car! I'm glad to hear that the 6 person version works great for you. I understand your desire for wireless Apple car play, an adjustable electric steering wheel, and some storage under the back section, as those were features you enjoyed in your XC60. However, it's great to hear that you find the luxurious feel, good performance, and user friendliness to be outstanding!

  3. Ned Roberts 2024-08-24

We previously owned a 2017 XC90, which unfortunately was totaled. However, we were so impressed with how well the vehicle protected us that we decided to purchase another XC90. This SUV offers great value for the money, with its stylish design, excellent features, smooth ride, and impressive versatility.

  4. Constantin Green 2024-06-18

This SUV is a great choice, with easy-to-use screen controls and a fun, smooth ride. While there is some slight road noise, overall there are no complaints.

  5. Brown Schiller 2024-06-18

We had a great experience with the overseas delivery program when we bought our T-5 Xc90. Although COVID-19 caused some delays and we had to have it shipped to our dealer, we finally got it on June 20th 2020. We took it on a road trip of about 4600 miles to Glacier Nat. Park and The Tetons in August and it performed well off-road. We deliberately got the base T-5 engine to avoid using premium gas and it runs great. Although we noticed some excessive road noise on the highway at speeds of 65 - 50, it is a true luxury car at normal speeds of 25 - 60 mph. We did have some trouble with the GPS guidance, but it got us where we needed to go. The button pad on the right side steering wheel needed fixing, but we are hopeful that the dealership will be able to fix it. Overall, we like the car and it has a lot of pep for the small standard engine. However, we did have some issues with the dealership lying to us when we ordered the car and the service department left a lot to be desired during the yearly warranty check up.I've owned 9 cars in my life, including cars, pickups, vans, and Corvettes. With experience ordering 4 from the factory and buying the others off the lot, I've learned that choosing the right dealership and considering its distance from you is crucial. Recently, I took my car in for its 20,000 mile servicing (actual miles - 13,000 miles) after the check engine light came on. The dealership diagnosed it as a bad O2 sensor, which required another appointment. Although the service department had a 6-week backlog, they offered a loaner car for the 1-2 days they needed to fix it. I suggested that it should only take an hour to change out the sensor, but they went with the tech's recommendation, which explains why they have such a long backlog. This meant another 3 hours on the road for a simple service, which was frustrating. I'm now considering trading it in for a Lexus or Audi since their dealerships are much closer to home. If a sensor goes out at 13,000 miles, what else is going to fail prematurely? However, for now, it's still under warranty.
