The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.

The first generation was introduced at the 2002 North American International Auto Show and used the Volvo P2 platform shared with the first generation Volvo S80 and other large Volvo cars. It was manufactured at Volvo's Torslandaverken. Volvo moved production equipment of the first generation to China and ended Swedish production at the end of 2014, renaming the car as the Volvo XC Classic (or Volvo XC90 Classic).

At the end of 2014, the second generation XC90 was introduced. It is based on a new global platform, the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Both generations of the XC90 have won Motor Trend's SUV of the Year award in their debuts.

In late 2022, the electric-only EX90 was introduced as the successor of the XC90.

Negative 2019 Volvo Xc90 car reviews

  1. Melvin Simonis 2024-10-13

The car is pleasant to drive, solid and well finished inside. However, I have experienced some reliability issues which I did not expect from a Volvo at the top of their line. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon to have several thousand dollar repairs for failed sensors just outside the warranty window. This is really unacceptable for a car of this price, especially one that touts quality and safety as their brand. In comparison, Toyota offers better quality at a substantially lower price and is more affordable to maintain. Additionally, the touchscreen, particularly the navigation feature, is several generations behind other manufacturers. After owning multiple Volvos, I am considering exploring other options.

  2. Jaydon Waelchi 2024-10-12

I recently purchased a 2019 T6 CPO with 35k miles due to my growing family and the great reviews I read online. While my family has owned multiple BMWs, Acuras, and Audis, unfortunately, this vehicle has proven to be the most unreliable. Over the last 10 months of ownership, the car has been in service for more than 2 weeks, which is unacceptable for a car of this price. Within the first month, the rotors were warped and had to be replaced (a known issue with this model), and the touchscreen is slow and doesn't start a few times a month, which the dealer has been unable to fix. Additionally, there have been issues with the transmission oil leaking. I have learned a valuable lesson: it's not worth paying German luxury brand prices for FOMOCO/Chinese quality.

  3. Dusty Torphy 2024-09-08

Great build, but the ride can be quite noisy and rattle your teeth.

  4. Geovanni Marvin 2024-08-03

I have been a loyal Volvo owner since 2006 and have owned five XC90's. While the older Swedish-built models were great, I did have some issues with my last XC90 and Volvo took it back after acknowledging it was a lemon. I appreciated their honorable actions and was willing to give them a second chance. Unfortunately, my latest XC90 T8 Inscription has been in the shop for a month and I have had trouble getting in touch with the service team. Despite my frustrations, I am hopeful that we can resolve the issue. I believe that Volvo cares about their customers and their products, and I am confident that they will work to make things right. While I have had some setbacks, I still believe that Volvo makes great cars and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish vehicle.

  5. Ervin Kuhic 2024-05-29

I love our XC90, but unfortunately, I wouldn't purchase another one due to some issues with the build quality. The interior rattles quite a bit, the brake rotors needed to be replaced after only 12K miles, and there was a check engine light at 3K miles for an EVAP leak. However, I must say that the drive is quite nice and the handling is incredible for its size. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the quality, as I would expect more from a car of this caliber.

  1. Hilton Wiza 2024-11-23

After owning a LEXUS GX460 and enjoying it, I'm thrilled to have this Volvo. It is so much more superior to the GX I'm surprised. In every way. The power, the ride, the technology inside, the safety features. Plus the looks! Well done, Volvo!

  2. Price Mitchell 2024-11-11

The luxury package, B&W sound, and air suspension are definitely must-haves for me! They are well worth the wait for a vehicle with these options.

  3. Consuelo Wolff 2024-10-15

Driving the Volvo XC90 was like being young again. It was an amazing and unbelievable experience. The technology and performance are on another level. I just love it! Volvo and I forever ❤️💪🏼⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  4. Jayme Stehr 2024-10-11

Before acquiring the Volvo Inscription, I owned 4 German SUVs (BMW, MB). For me, air suspension and B&W are a must. After 2 years, I have had no technical issues and the ride is great and quiet. The engine can be a bit noisy, but it has good torque. I am definitely planning on getting another one in 2022, but not a German one!

  5. Deontae Ankunding 2024-10-05

You exceeded all of our expectations!
