The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

Prior to the recall I had noticed that the ABS light was always coming on & I also noticed the brakes were at times seemed to be grabbing metal & not working . I took the car in to get fixed with the recall notice. Everything was fine until now the ABS light has been coming on frequently again & it is doing the same exact thing when braking. It seems when the light is off & the brakes start to not work properly then the light comes on & they do work. I never know when this is going to happen when the brakes fail. There is no loss of brake fluid. The recall repair was done at Ricart in Columbus Ohio. The problem was confirmed by the recall that this was faulty.

This was my first car and it was wonderful! It ran well for about 7 years without any major issues. Although the timing belt went, it's likely on all eclipses. It rides well and has a very sporty look. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone!

The decision was easy - $0 down and 1.9% financing for 5 years. The car has decent acceleration, doesn't require premium gas, and gets 26mpg combined. It has been trouble-free with no problems whatsoever. The car handles well and is fairly quiet and comfortable. Although the shifter could be smoother and ABS and side airbags are not offered, Mitsubishi financing is difficult to beat in a cash crunch. While there are other cars that offer more for the money (my wife has a Jetta with leather, ABS, and side airbags for the same price), this car is a great option.

I am thrilled with my recent purchase of a 98 GS Eclipse. Although it has 140 hp, I am having a lot of fun driving it. This model is one of the most popular import cars to modify and upgrade, and I have seen some impressive aftermarket body kits and turbo's on 95-99 eclipses. While I have had to make a few minor repairs due to some wiring issues and corrosion, I am confident that this car will last me for years to come.

I've owned two 2nd gen GSXs and I must say, they are quite the lookers. The AWD system is a great feature that performs exceptionally well in all weather conditions. The turbo engine provides good torque, but it does have noticeable turbo lag and the power band is relatively narrow, running out of breath at around 6000 RPM. Unfortunately, the mechanical and electrical systems of the car are not very reliable. The dashboard design, while attractive, is flawed as the shift lever blocks the stereo. Additionally, there are some interior and suspension parts that can cause squeaks and rattles, and rain can leak into the cabin. Lastly, if you're tall, cars with a sunroof can be a bit of a tight fit. Overall, the GSX is a great car with some minor flaws that can be overlooked if you're a fan of its looks and performance.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my Eclipse GTS Automatic. I've had it for over 4 years now and it's been a really nice car. I bought it used and it was still under factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. Even though I've driven it hard (currently at 67000 miles), I've had very few issues with it. The only problems I've had have been some minor electrical issues. For example, the factory 6-CD player stopped working and Mitsubishi wanted $450 to fix it, so I just replaced it with an aftermarket setup. Also, the switch for the passenger side window only rolls the window up, not down, so the passenger has to roll down their own window. Lastly, the sunroof switch is a bit touchy. Oh, and one more thing, the plastic scratches easily. Overall, I'm really happy with my Eclipse and I hope this helps you if you're considering getting one too!

I have driven 500 miles so far and have been impressed with the looks, handling, Fosgate sound system, tire quality, and interior design. However, I am disappointed with the noisy engine and lack of sound dampening. Perhaps this is why they offer a 650 watt stereo. Additionally, I dislike the fact that if you get a flat tire, you cannot use flatfix as it will interfere with the tire sensors. Furthermore, the electronic code for the key seems unnecessarily complicated and may lead to the need for assistance. Despite these issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of the vehicle.

I purchased my 2001 Eclipse GT at the beginning of summer and I have loved it ever since. The car has a body kit, K&N cold air intake, stage 2 clutch, custom paint, tinted windows, subs, and an Invidia exhaust system with bigger piping from the cat to the muffler. I enjoy driving the car around and it gets good gas mileage, especially with the cold air intake. Insurance rates are a little high due to it being a sports car. However, if you plan on having some fun with the car and adding some modifications, I highly recommend it.
