The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

Prior to the recall I had noticed that the ABS light was always coming on & I also noticed the brakes were at times seemed to be grabbing metal & not working . I took the car in to get fixed with the recall notice. Everything was fine until now the ABS light has been coming on frequently again & it is doing the same exact thing when braking. It seems when the light is off & the brakes start to not work properly then the light comes on & they do work. I never know when this is going to happen when the brakes fail. There is no loss of brake fluid. The recall repair was done at Ricart in Columbus Ohio. The problem was confirmed by the recall that this was faulty.

We have a case number with them. The car showed the check engine light but we changed spark plug cables and alternator. It seemed fine otherwise.

You made a great choice with your new GS-T in burnt orange with leather, sun-roof and 5-speed! It's one of the prettiest cars you've ever owned and it's no surprise that you received compliments on its looks. It's impressive that the car only had one minor issue, with the outside door handle breaking at about 70,000 miles. It sounds like it was a lot of fun to drive, with great speed and handling, and impressive gas mileage of 25-30. Well done on your purchase!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with this car I bought used. It's had a few issues with alignment and a rear main seal leak, but I've been taking it to the shop regularly and it's been running smoothly. It may not have the most horsepower, which can be a bit of a challenge in hilly areas or when driving through mountains, but overall it's been a reliable car. The interior did start to show some wear and tear after 100K, but that's to be expected with any car. Thanks for listening!

Although you've had to do the typical routine stuff, such as timing belts, tires, and accessory belts, it's great to hear that your original clutch is still going strong. Although I have had some major issues with my car, I still believe it is a great and fun car to drive. However, I would recommend purchasing it with under 40k miles and with a turbo, as the straight 4 engine may not hold up well to extensive highway driving. Despite having to replace the transmission, all belts, brakes 4x, rotors 2x, power steering pump, and tires since purchasing it with 35,000 miles, I am confident that with proper maintenance and care, this car can still provide an enjoyable driving experience.

I want to remind potential buyers to be aware of the potential issue with the Eclipse's condenser, as it is poorly protected. Although my vehicle required an $800 repair to the condenser within 4 months of ownership, the dealership and manufacturer claimed that it was not covered under warranty due to the possibility of road hazard damage. Unfortunately, I have heard of others experiencing the same issue, even with as little as 400 miles on their vehicle. It is important to be cautious and informed when considering purchasing an Eclipse.

I purchased this car back in 2001 with 120k miles and recently sold it with 122k miles. It was a reliable car and I didn't have to spend any money on it until the ECU (CPU) stopped working. Although the mechanic made it seem like a big deal, I was able to find a solution through www.ecutogo.com here in Houston. They sell rebuilt ECUs that are easy to install yourself. This is a common issue with almost every Eclipse, but it was a fairly easy problem to fix. The only other minor issue I had was with the lift arms on the hatch, but it was not a big deal. You can easily purchase a new pair at Autozone and even install them yourself, although it can be a bit tricky. Overall, the car runs well and is very reliable, never failing on you.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. It's been a blast to drive, but unfortunately, it's been having some major issues lately. After hitting 90,000 miles, the turbo suddenly stopped working and it became more of a burden than anything.
