Mitsubishi Eclipse 1995 problems
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

Common Mitsubishi Eclipse 1995 problems
The Mitsubishi Eclipse, produced in the 1995 model year, is known for several common problems that can affect its performance and reliability. These issues are primarily related to the engine, transmission, and sunroof.
Engine problems are one of the most frequently reported issues with the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. One common problem is that the engine may turn over but won't start. This issue can occur in the Eclipse 1995 Sedan with 250,000 miles. The engine may run as normal, but suddenly, it may refuse to start. This problem can be caused by various factors, including faulty spark plugs, a malfunctioning camshaft, or other engine-related issues.
Another common engine problem is a ticking noise from the engine that gets louder and faster with the RPMs. This issue can be caused by a faulty fuel pump, a damaged timing belt, or a problem with the engine's oil pressure. If left unaddressed, this problem can lead to more severe engine damage, including engine failure.
Transmission problems are also common in the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse. One of the most frequently reported transmission problems is difficulty shifting gears. This issue can be caused by worn-out synchronizer gears, damaged clutch discs, or other transmission-related issues. In some cases, the transmission may need to be replaced or rebuilt to fix the problem.
Another transmission problem that can affect the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a rattle noise from the transmission. This issue can occur when the car is idle and can be caused by a faulty clutch pressure plate or a problem with the transmission's internal components. If left unaddressed, this problem can lead to more severe transmission damage, including transmission failure.
The sunroof can also be a problem area in some 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse models. In some cases, the sunroof may become stuck closed or have difficulty moving. This issue can be caused by a faulty sunroof motor or a problem with the sunroof's internal components. In some cases, the sunroof may need to be replaced or repaired to fix the problem.
In summary, the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse is known for several common problems that can affect its performance and reliability. These issues are primarily related to the engine, transmission, and sunroof. - VIN: 4A3AL54F5SE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TODAY AND OUT OF NOWHERE ALL OF MY WHEELS LOCK UP AND I LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. LUCKILY I STOPPED AND DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MUCH WORSE IF OTHER CARS WOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND. THIS PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT IT OBVIOUSLY WASN'T. THE RECALL SAYS THAT FLUID LEAKS OUT OF THE TRANSFER CASE AND CAUSES LOCK UP, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. THERE IS A RECALL THAT NEVER EXPIRES FOR THIS UNTIL IT IS FIXED ONCE. SINCE IT SHOWS AS FIXED THE RECALL NO LONGER SHOWS AS OPEN FOR MY VIN, MITSUBISHI REFUSES TO ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. A TRANSMISSION SHOP ADVISED ME THAT THIS FLUID SHOULD NEVER LEAK OUT ONCE, SO SURELY NOT TWICE IN 84,000 MILES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND CALLED MITSUBISHI DIRECTLY AND NOBODY CARES THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN AGAIN AND SOMEONE COULD BE HURT. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT AND I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REFILL IT WITH FLUID AND DRIVE IT AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED IN THIS CAR SINCE WE PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW IN 1995. IT ALSO HAPPENED TO ME IN MY EAGLE TALON TSI THAT IS THE SAME CAR AS THIS AND IT WAS FIXED UNDER THE RECALL SO I KNOW THIS ISSUE WELL AND ALL OCCURRENCES ARE IDENTICAL. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE AND I NO LONGER FEEL COMFORTABLE RIDING IN A MITSUBISHI IF THEY ARE UNWILLING TO ADMIT WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM. I BELIEVE MY TRANSFER CASE SHOULD BE REPLACED SINCE THE ISSUE OBVIOUSLY WASN'T FIXED CORRECT THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. *JB

You made a great choice with your new GS-T in burnt orange with leather, sun-roof and 5-speed! It's one of the prettiest cars you've ever owned and it's no surprise that you received compliments on its looks. It's impressive that the car only had one minor issue, with the outside door handle breaking at about 70,000 miles. It sounds like it was a lot of fun to drive, with great speed and handling, and impressive gas mileage of 25-30. Well done on your purchase!

I love this car, no problems. All wheel drive and a turbo, that accelerates like nothing. Add an air intake and an exhaust system, and your car is now better than all others.

I've only had it for two weeks, but it's completely stock and runs great, so smooth. I'm loving it! I'm not sure what I plan on doing with it, but I just hope it doesn't turn out like my 1995 Eagle Talon.

This car has been a great purchase for me. I bought it with 43K miles and it has been a dream mechanically, with only minor issues like the turbo needing frequent oil changes (2K to 2.5K per) and a costly tune-up at 60K miles. The ball joints were recalled and fixed for free. While some body parts are a bit shoddy, everything still works, although sometimes the cruise control button takes a few presses to work properly. The A/C and heat work great, and the engine and drivetrain are fabulous. The turbo gives a kick that current models don't have, and on the road, it is rock solid. Overall, the Eclipse has been the most trouble-free and reliable car I've ever owned.

This car really holds its value. I'm so glad I bought it used because it's almost in showroom quality. I absolutely love this car! It has pretty good pickup too, although I don't race it since mine is an automatic. These cars are really great deals, especially for less than $5000.

Although my car has had some issues, I have taken care of them promptly and effectively. Over the last three years, I have replaced the alternator, starter, main computer, ball joints (uppers), tie rod ends, struts (front), crankshaft pulley, head gasket, and main and rod bearings. Despite these repairs, the car has only 79,000 miles on it and is in good condition. I am confident that the car will continue to perform well and I plan to sell it soon.

Hi there! I noticed you mentioned that you bought this car because of its looks. While I understand that, I wanted to share my experience with you. I personally wouldn't recommend buying this car as a used car due to some issues I've had. For example, after 80k miles, I had to replace the transmission and the sunroof leaks. Recently, I've been having some trouble with the car starting, and even though I've taken it to a couple of mechanics, they haven't been able to find the problem. I'm currently considering taking it to the dealer for repairs, but I'm a bit worried about the cost. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you were considering buying this car. Let me know if you have any questions!

This model is highly sought after, but unfortunately, the engine, transmission, and overall condition of the car were not up to par. Initially, the car ran well, with good fuel economy, smooth shifting, and a pleasing BOV sound from the turbo. However, after a mild winter, the car began to experience issues. Despite my diligent maintenance, including regular oil changes, new coolant, and filter replacements, the car's condition continued to deteriorate. I even installed an Apexi N1 exhaust to enhance its sound. The car was primarily driven on highways, but one day the check engine light came on. I suspected it was the oxygen sensor, which I replaced, and the issue was resolved. Unfortunately, the alternator and suspension failed the following day. Despite my best efforts, it seems this car was beyond repair.
