The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

Did a bit of research and found it's a defect in the system. Once the car fails to hold pressure I have to very rapidly spam the break pedal to get a sliver of pressure so my car can come to a stop. Breaking with little pressure grinds the brakes and doesn't stop the car.

THEY FLUSHED OUT THE ABS SYSTEM AND REPLACED DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID WITH DOT 4, RAN ABS SYSTEM TEST AND IT CAME OUT "OK NO REPAIR TO ABS NEEDED AT THIS TIME." SINCE THEN, I HAVE EXPERIENCED 7 MORE BRAKE FAILURES WHERE THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RE-CREATE THE INCIDENT, WHICH SEEMS TO HAPPEN AFTER, NOT DURING, BRAKING OVER ROUGH ROAD SURFACES. THE BRAKE PEDAL USUALLY COMES RIGHT BACK UP AFTER A FEW SECONDS OR MINUTES, AND IS FINE UNTIL ANOTHER BRAKING INCIDENT OVER ROUGH ROAD. THERE ARE NO CODES DELIVERED AT ALL DURING THESE INSTANCES. THE WHEEL ALSO REMAINED INTACT ON THE HUB. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE TO THE BUMPER, FENDER, INNER WHEEL HUB SPLASH GUARDS, HEADLIGHT, ETC. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HIS SEAT BELT DID NOT LOCK ON IMPACT. CAR WAS TOTALED AND CONSIDERED SALVAGE, BUT I RECONSTRUCTED IT AND HAVE OVER $4,500 INVESTED IN REPAIRS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE BRAKES AND LOWER CONTROL ARM WORKED PROPERLY. APPARENTLY I'M GOING TO HAVE AN $800 PART REPLACED FOR NO REASON. FOUND ON NHTSA THE INDICATORS OF A BAD PART AND THE FACT THAT IT IS DOCUMENTED MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON SHOULD BE ENOUGH. I CONTACTED THE MITSUBISHI DEALER IN CHARLESTON, SC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD SEEN NUMEROUS VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM (MITSUBISHI). I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE ONCE THIS PIECE OF MATERIAL FALLS OFF THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO PROTECT THE PASSENGER FROM THE AIRBAG AT ANY TIME. I WAS INFORMED IT WOULD COST $1,200 TO FIX. THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 100,000 MILES ON IT YET. I BELIEVE THAT HAVING MY VEHICLE IN THE CONDITION IT IS IN IS VERY DANGEROUS AND MITSUBISHI OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T MANUFACTURE A GOOD RELIABLE PRODUCT WHICH IS NOT ONLY DECEPTIVE BUT DANGEROUS. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 20, 2005, to February 13, 2009, and 2007-2009 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured December 23, 2005, to February 13, 2009. Due to corrosion inside the antil-lock brake system (ABS) unit, one or more of the internal valves may seize. In a braking event that uses the ABS, a seized valve would increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking ability.
- Consequence: A sudden reduction of braking performance may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, flush and clean the ABS hydraulic unit using high grade brake fluid, free of charge. If the inspection shows that the valves may seize, the ABS unit will be replaced. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-15-004.

THE BRACKET THAT IS THE ATTACHMENT POINT FOR THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY FORMED DURING A METAL STAMPING PROCESS. THE PROCESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE METAL TO HAVE A SPLIT IN THE AREA WHERE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS ONE OF THE TWO FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED. IN THE EVENT THE FUEL TANK IS FULL AND THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SEVERE COLLISION, THE BRACKET MAY BREAK AND ALLOW THE FUEL TANK TO DROP DOWN, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FUEL LEAK.
- Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNTING BRACKET HAS SPLITTING BEYOND A SPECIFIC LIMIT. VEHICLES WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE SPLITTING WILL BE REPAIRED USING A REINFORCEMENT CAP, A SPECIAL STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE, AND A RIVET TO REINFORCE THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS CAN RESULT IN THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERATIVE AND ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED WITHOUT THE GEARSHIFT MECHANISM BEING PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION.
- Consequence: IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT SHIFT TO PARK BEFORE REMOVING THE KEY AND FAILS TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE IGNITION INTERLOCK CABLE AND REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 20, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-888-648-7820.

- Consequence: BREAKAGE OF THE CROSSMEMBER MAY ALLOW SEPARATION OF THE PASSENGER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARM, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

I traded my 07 Spyder GT for this black 07 GT coupe back in April and I have no regrets. I have the sun & sound package, so I still get to enjoy some open air. The hatchback has come in handy with our recent move, as it can fit a lot in there. I love the exhaust note, the comfort, and all the looks I get. I have averaged 23 MPG for city driving, which is the same as my wife's 04 Spyder, so no complaints there. I don't push it too hard because then you will see the needle fall. It's funny that the critics hate this car, but all of the consumers love it. I'll believe an actual owner over a magazine any day. I highly recommend this great car!

The 2007 Eclipse is the best car I have ever driven, even at the ripe old age of 45. I love the handling, the stylish look, as well as the speed of a 4-banger! It makes me feel young and turns heads wherever I go!

This is my commuter mobile. It has plenty of power and torque despite being a 4-cylinder engine. There's plenty of interior room for the front seats, but unfortunately, the rear seats are not suitable for passengers - they're just extra storage space. You get a lot of car for your money with its style and performance compared to its competitors.
