2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse problems
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

- Summary: There was a previous recall on the anti braking system. Prior to the recall I had noticed that the ABS light was always coming on & I also noticed the brakes were at times seemed to be grabbing metal & not working . I took the car in to get fixed with the recall notice. Everything was fine until now the ABS light has been coming on frequently again & it is doing the same exact thing when braking. It seems when the light is off & the brakes start to not work properly then the light comes on & they do work. I never know when this is going to happen when the brakes fail. There is no loss of brake fluid. The recall repair was done at Ricart in Columbus Ohio. The problem was confirmed by the recall that this was faulty.

My vehicle has less than 75k miles and has been garaged most of its life as it is not a daily driver and I am the only owner. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
- Summary: Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Eclipse vehicles manufactured April 20, 2005, to February 13, 2009, and 2007-2009 Eclipse Spyder vehicles manufactured December 23, 2005, to February 13, 2009. Due to corrosion inside the antil-lock brake system (ABS) unit, one or more of the internal valves may seize. In a braking event that uses the ABS, a seized valve would increase brake pedal travel and reduce braking ability.
- Consequence: A sudden reduction of braking performance may increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: MMNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect, flush and clean the ABS hydraulic unit using high grade brake fluid, free of charge. If the inspection shows that the valves may seize, the ABS unit will be replaced. The recall began on July 21, 2015. Owners may contact MMNA customer service at 1-888-648-7820. MMNA's number for this recall is SR-15-004.

- Summary: MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING 45,988 MY 2005-2007 ENDEAVOR, GALANT, ECLIPSE COUPE, AND MY 2007 ECLIPSE SPYDER VEHICLES. THE BRACKET THAT IS THE ATTACHMENT POINT FOR THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK MOUNTING STRAP MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY FORMED DURING A METAL STAMPING PROCESS. THE PROCESS MAY HAVE CAUSED THE METAL TO HAVE A SPLIT IN THE AREA WHERE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS ONE OF THE TWO FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS LOCATED. IN THE EVENT THE FUEL TANK IS FULL AND THE VEHICLE IS SUBJECT TO A SEVERE COLLISION, THE BRACKET MAY BREAK AND ALLOW THE FUEL TANK TO DROP DOWN, POSSIBLY CAUSING A FUEL LEAK.
- Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT TO SEE IF THE LEFT REAR FUEL TANK STRAP MOUNTING BRACKET HAS SPLITTING BEYOND A SPECIFIC LIMIT. VEHICLES WITH MODERATE TO SEVERE SPLITTING WILL BE REPAIRED USING A REINFORCEMENT CAP, A SPECIAL STRUCTURAL ADHESIVE, AND A RIVET TO REINFORCE THE FUEL TANK MOUNTING BRACKET. The Eclipse is a blast to drive! It may take a little time to get used to the wide interior, dash, and hood, but it's totally worth it. The GT is an excellent choice, especially considering the price difference. I personally bought it, even though there was a GM employee program available for other cars.

I bought this car in 2006 straight off the truck (literally). It's pretty cool to be one of only 5 people in a 50 mile radius who owns a 4G Eclipse. I've found that torque steer isn't an issue as long as you don't floor it from a dead stop. As for handling, I've taken turns at 60 mph with no problems and can go through curves at 75 mph, so I don't really see what all the fuss is about. And yeah, the exhaust is a bit noisy, but it's an import - what do you expect? :)

Your 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT sounds like a fantastic car! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so much. The engine sounds amazing and the manual transmission must be a lot of fun to drive. It's great that the suspension handles bumps so well and that the car is finished so immaculately inside and out. I'm glad to hear that you're recommending it to your friends. It's impressive that it feels like a much more expensive car. While it would be nice to have AWD, it's good to hear that you're getting used to the FWD configuration. The gas mileage is pretty good too, especially considering you have the V6 with a manual transmission. It's no wonder you hardly ever turn on the radio with the sound of the engine being so great. I'm happy to hear that you have no complaints at all and are extremely happy with your Eclipse!

I was in the process of purchasing a Chevy Cobalt when I saw the new Eclipse at the auto show. Mitsubishi saved me from a costly mistake. The amenities, including the amazing 650 watt sound system, are incredible. Its ride is smooth and comfortable, allowing for enjoyable long trips. The design is amazing, it definitely catches the attention of others when sitting at a light.

The Eclipse is an absolutely stunning car, without a doubt the most beautiful on the road. It's a true work of art that also happens to be a joy to drive. While I'm disappointed with the gas mileage, averaging around 16-17 mpg in the city and only slightly better on the highway, it's still worth it for the experience of driving such a fantastic car. Even with its low gearing, it's hard not to love the Eclipse. It's just too nice!

The 4-cylinder version of this car has its fair share of problems, but it's not all bad. The fuel economy could use some improvement, as it falls short of the advertised mpg. On the bright side, the exterior design is unique and impressive. The engine can be a bit noisy, especially when shifting gears, but with some modifications to the exhaust and intake, the sound can be improved. The brakes tend to squeal, which is a bit concerning, especially since it started happening at only 2,000 miles. The front-wheel drive can cause some issues with steering if you take a turn too hard, but overall, this is a great car. With a few modifications, which I hope will be released soon, this car will be even better.
