2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse problems

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.

The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.

According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.

At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.

In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

Negative 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse car reviews

  1. Braeden Cassin 2025-07-04

I have driven 500 miles so far and have been impressed with the looks, handling, Fosgate sound system, tire quality, and interior design. However, I am disappointed with the noisy engine and lack of sound dampening. Perhaps this is why they offer a 650 watt stereo. Additionally, I dislike the fact that if you get a flat tire, you cannot use flatfix as it will interfere with the tire sensors. Furthermore, the electronic code for the key seems unnecessarily complicated and may lead to the need for assistance. Despite these issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of the vehicle.

  2. Roberto O'Hara 2024-10-21

This car was designed with more emphasis on aesthetics than practicality. It has a weight of over 3500 lb, which is quite heavy for a sport coupe, and a turning circle of 40 ft, which is comparable to that of an SUV. Additionally, it has several blind spots due to its wide pillars and small side windows, as well as small side mirrors. Maneuvering this car in tight spaces may prove challenging. The car also exhibits noticeable understeer. The interior, even with the leather option, features cheap-looking materials, such as plastic on the door handle and middle dash, which detract from the overall experience. The rear seat is primarily intended for storage. A redesign may be necessary.

  3. Eli Prosacco 2024-08-09

Overall, I'm really pleased with this vehicle. While the interior could use a bit of sprucing up, it's generally fine. I particularly love the blue dash at night. The only real downside is that, for a small car, it's quite heavy and has a turning radius more akin to a Super Duty Pickup. So, be sure to give yourself plenty of room when trying to fit into a parking space!

Had the car since Feb 08 and finding too many little things that bother me every time I drive it! Should have rented one first for a week before purchase.

Positive 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse car reviews

  1. Christophe Borer 2025-11-25

Overall, I like the car, but I have noticed that the dash is separating. According to the dealer, the complete dash needs to be replaced, which is quite expensive at $1900. I have also noticed that other Mitsubishi cars seem to be experiencing the same issue. I am concerned if this could affect airbag deployment. However, I appreciate your help in addressing this issue.

  2. Derick Bahringer 2025-11-21

The Mitsubishi Eclipse GT exudes poise and agility, ready to pounce like a tiger. It effortlessly navigates through traffic while maintaining a firm grip on any surface. Its unique exterior design turns heads and is reminiscent of the iconic Porsche 911 from 1962. The interior amenities are thoughtfully designed with the driver in mind, ensuring comfort is always within reach. Mitsubishi's commitment to their products is evident in the impressive re-design. Overall, the Eclipse GT is a head-turner that impressively combines style and functionality.

  3. Bartholome O'Conner 2025-11-21

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your SE! It sounds like you've had a lot of experience with sporty vehicles over the past 20+ years, and it's great to hear that your 2008 has been treating you well. With 20k miles on it already, it's clear that you've been putting it to good use! It's also great to hear that you're getting good gas mileage and that insurance is reasonable. And it's always fun to drive a car that turns heads! Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us.

  4. Reilly Becker 2025-11-16

I'm really pleased with my purchase! The car has been flawless so far, with great performance for the money and awesome styling. However, visibility can be a bit of a problem and the car can get a bit silly when pushed hard in corners. It would have been nice if the car came with a LSD or AWD. Additionally, while the interior is nice enough for most people, the materials used don't quite match the quality you'd expect from a 30K car. Overall, it's a great buy with a lot of potential. With a CAI, the performance and engine sound are night and day. In the end, you get a little more than what you pay for.

  5. Howard Hudson 2025-11-16

This car is fantastic! The price was amazing, especially for a car of this year and mileage. Before deciding on the Eclipse, I looked at the Mustang and the Honda Accord Coupe, but both of these cars fall short in terms of looks and warranty. I'm so glad I bought this car, even though it's the GS model, it comes with many standard features. It drives like a dream, very fast and peppy for a 4cyl engine. The miles per gallon are okay considering the weight of this vehicle and the safety features. Overall, it's a great car for the money!
