The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sport compact car that was produced by Mitsubishi in four generations from 1989 until 2011. A convertible body style was added during the 1996 model year.
The first two generations share the automobile platform and parts with the rebadged Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser captive imports. They were built during Mitsubishi Motors' close relationship with Chrysler Corporation. Their partnership was known as Diamond-Star Motors (DSM). In Japan, the first two generations were sold at a specific Japanese retail chain called Mitsubishi Car Plaza. The third, 2000–2005 generation shared a redesigned platform with the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus. In May 2005, the fourth, and final generation Eclipse was introduced, replacing the Chrysler platform used for the third generation with the PS platform.
According to Mitsubishi Motors, the Eclipse was named after an unbeaten 18th-century English racehorse that won 18 races in a row and then retired.
At the end of August 2011, the final Eclipse was manufactured and subsequently auctioned for charity.
In 2017, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse name on a compact crossover vehicle, called the Eclipse Cross.

This car sounds fantastic! It has so many great features like heated seats, an aux for iPhone hidden in the center compartment, a rear view camera hidden in the rear view mirror, a moonroof, a subwoofer in the trunk, alloy wheels, fold down seats, and solid doors. While it may not be the best choice for families or drag racers, it's perfect for everyday single people who enjoy a drive to work or college students who don't want to break the bank. If you can find one with low mileage and no accidents, it could even become a collector's item!

We recently traded in our 2006 Eclipse GT for a 2009 Eclipse GT. I really like the look of the dual exhaust. This time, we opted for the 6-speed standard instead of the automatic transmission and it seems to have so much more power. I'm not sure if they made the back window larger, but it definitely feels easier to see behind you when backing up. I'm looking forward to enjoying the sun-roof when the weather is nicer and the Rockford-Fosgate stereo is absolutely amazing! I love this car and I think I'm hooked on Eclipses forever!

Lots of power and handles very well. The GT with the rear fin gets a lot of looks and even questions as to what kind of car it is. I noticed some comments about the short distance of the low beams, but there is a switch on the dash to adjust this. Don't worry if you panic the first night you drive it, I did too!

Runs smooth with great power and at a good price. The average MPG of 20 is reasonable considering its horsepower. The 650W audio with subwoofer is really amazing and provides good sound quality. Although, the truck can be hard to close and requires a bit of force.

This car was designed with more emphasis on aesthetics than practicality. It has a weight of over 3500 lb, which is quite heavy for a sport coupe, and a turning circle of 40 ft, which is comparable to that of an SUV. Additionally, it has several blind spots due to its wide pillars and small side windows, as well as small side mirrors. Maneuvering this car in tight spaces may prove challenging. The car also exhibits noticeable understeer. The interior, even with the leather option, features cheap-looking materials, such as plastic on the door handle and middle dash, which detract from the overall experience. The rear seat is primarily intended for storage. A redesign may be necessary.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this vehicle. While the interior could use a bit of sprucing up, it's generally fine. I particularly love the blue dash at night. The only real downside is that, for a small car, it's quite heavy and has a turning radius more akin to a Super Duty Pickup. So, be sure to give yourself plenty of room when trying to fit into a parking space!
