2022 Honda Ridgeline problems
The Honda Ridgeline is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by Honda. Currently the company's only pickup, it is built using a unibody frame and a transverse-mounted engine. It is offered only in a crew–cab short-box configuration with one powertrain.
First generation (YK1; 2006)
The first-generation Ridgeline went on sale in March 2005 as a 2006 model year vehicle. The Car Design Yearbook called it "Honda's first foray into the true heartland of the American automotive way of life—the pickup truck." An engineering team from Honda R&D Americas, led by Gary Flint, designed the vehicle. According to the author of Driving Honda, the automaker wanted to target buyers who were looking to move to a pickup from sedans, minivans, and sport utility vehicles (SUV).
The development started in 2001 with a development mule using an extended version of a first-generation Acura MDX with a competitor's pickup bed integrated into the rear structure. After four years of development, a Sport Utility Truck Concept was shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Later that same year, Honda unveiled a revised version at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show and announced the official name of the vehicle, the Ridgeline. The production version of the Ridgeline was unveiled the following year at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.
Honda's publications claim that the first generation Ridgeline shared only 7% of its components with other Honda vehicles. Its powertrain resembled the one used in the first-generation Acura MDX but was "extensively calibrated and strengthened" for heavier hauling and towing duties.
Production of the first generation Ridgeline ended in early 2015.

Common 2022 Honda Ridgeline problems
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline has been reported to have several common issues by its owners. One of the most frequently mentioned problems is an audible clattering sound coming from the engine, particularly when under load or going uphill. This issue has been reported to develop in the last few months and is not related to the octane level of the fuel used. Some owners suspect that it may be related to cylinder deactivation, but a solution has not been found yet.
Another common issue reported by 2022 Honda Ridgeline owners is related to the infotainment system and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system has been described as "dogshit" and has been reported to randomly lose its connection to iPhones and CarPlay, making it impossible to re-establish the connection while driving. This issue has been attributed to the ancient version of Android and minimally resourced hardware supporting the infotainment system.
A few owners have reported issues with the transmission, including a transmission fault that prevented the truck from coming out of park and required a transmission module replacement.
Some owners have also reported issues with the steering column and power steering motor, which have been described as a clicking sound when turning the steering wheel. This issue has been attributed to a bad steering column or power steering motor and has required replacement.
Additionally, some owners have reported a popping/rattling noise from the front drivers area when driving at low speeds, which has been attributed to the "bindings" in the front drivers area and has required replacement of the axle and struts.
In summary, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline has been reported to have several common issues, including engine clatter, infotainment system and Apple CarPlay problems, transmission issues, steering column and power steering motor problems, and popping/rattling noises from the front drivers area. These issues have required various repairs and replacements, and owners have expressed frustration with the frequency and severity of these problems.

The safety issue is highbeaming oncoming cars making it difficult for them to see and making them really angry at me. I have had the dealer look at it multiple times, I have even taken the issue to American Honda. - Summary: After pulling into my son's driveway that only has a slight downward grade, I put my Honda Ridgeline into park, shutoff the engine and then exited the vehicle. I took only a step by the driver's side mirror when the vehicle rolled back about six inches. I immediately got back into the vehicle and started it up to make sure it was in park. Both indicators on the dash and the center consol button showed the vehicle was in park. I then set the emergency brake. This incident was reported to my dealer on 2/15/24. They found no codes stored and no concerns with the transmission. They stated" advised customer vehicle may roll back until the parking brake pawl engages. This is normal operation of the transmission."

I now only use them manually.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-20
- VIN: 5FPYK3F88NB
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The incident with my 2022 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition occurred while driving on the interstate from Minneapolis back to my home in Illinois (Chicago suburbs). While taking an exit ramp to a different interstate I slowed down before the turn and then, when accelerating to merge onto the other interstate, my Ridgeline "check engine" light began flashing and the vehicle began to limp along at a maximum speed of ~40MPH. I quickly pulled off to a parking lot and arranged for a tow truck for the next day, as it was very late in the evening and very cold. The next morning, I went to meet the tow truck at the parking lot, and I started up my Honda Ridgeline with no issues (and no check engine light). It was then that I found a message board conversation titled “Check engine light flashing after freeway driving” on the internet [XXX] ) and discovered this issue had been occurring with other Ridgelines in similar conditions - i.e., long drives in cold weather where the driver slows down and then accelerates. In all cases, it seems that simply turning off the vehicle and re-starting a few minutes later fixes the problem, but not before you encounter a potentially dangerous situation with a disabled car on the road. On [XXX] I took my Ridgeline in for service at my local Honda dealership (where I had purchased the vehicle in 2022) and they were unable to find any issues or error codes stored (no error codes being stored seems to be the common occurrence with other drivers who have had this issue). In my view, this issue, while somewhat uncommon due to the particular set of circumstances needed to produce the error, presents a major safety issue for the Honda Ridgeline as it can essentially disable your vehicle while driving on the interstate. I’m hopeful that the NHTSA can work with Honda to quickly diagnose and resolve this safety issue before it leads to tragic consequences. SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-19
- VIN: 5FPYK3F53NB
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: Around 25,000 miles front brakes started making screeching noise with regular stopping. I am not a hard breaker. Rotors according do the dealership have developed hot spots. Honda has changed to a coated rotor which cannot be turned. I also have a 2019 Honda ridgeline that has the non coated rotors and have had no problems with front brakes.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-24
- VIN: 5FPYK3F89NB
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The auto headlight dimming is not functioning properly and blinds oncoming traffic quite frequently. This seems to be a known issue when investigated. It is a feature sold with the vehicle as standard equipment on this trim level. It is marketed as a convenience to assist with dimming if the operator misses the opportunity to dim for oncoming traffic. If I engage this feature, it rarely dims, and I am routinely flashed. It is concerning for the safety of the opposing vehicles, as well as road rage that could develop from not dimming for the oncoming drivers.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-01
- VIN: 5FPYK3F73NB
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: When traveling on a dark road at night the auto high beam feature of the vehicle will dim the headlights when there is nothing around (no lights, no cars, etc) and it will also fail to reactivate the high beams after passing by a vehicle with their headlights on . This feature is utterly useless and is certainly a safety hazard as the high beams cannot be used in the auto mode because their function is sporadic and non-responsive to the surroundings.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-01
- VIN: 5FPYK3F79NB
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The automatic high beam feature frequently does not dim with oncoming traffic and disengages for reflections such as road signs.

I does it at 75 mph with no other cars within 10 miles or at 50 mph. All with no other cars within miles. My family will not ride in vehicle cause scared because of un safe technology. I do not feel safe driving this Honda vehicle with this bad technology.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-05
- VIN: 5FPYK3F59NB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Was stopped at a traffic light and idle-stop had engaged. Released brake and vehicle failed to restart. Multiple attempts to restart before it actually started. Many dash indicators were lit, but I was too frantic to notice which. Was in heavy traffic and it was very unsettling. Only time this has happened, but I feel like it will repeat. Have not been to dealer, but I will.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-11
- VIN: 5FPYK3F71NB
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The auto high beam head light function on the 2022 Honda Ridgeline does not work as expected and is a safety issue. They do not always dim for oncoming vehicles therefore "blinding" the person in the oncoming vehicle. This could potentially cause an accident. Please note they will sometimes dim from glare on a road sign but not always from an oncoming vehicle. Basically the functionality is erratic and does not work as expected. This has occurred since I purchased the vehicle in 5/2022 but I do not drive at night that often but was recently on an out of town trip that required me to drive at night. I still own the vehicle and it is available for inspection if needed. When taken to the dealership on 5/1/2023, Priority Honda Roanoke indicated no codes were returned and they said nothing was wrong with them. I was also told there was nothing else the dealership could do about them and I would need to contact Honda directly. I have opened a case with Honda, it is case 14251538.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-23
- VIN: 5FPYK3F70NB
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On 08/23/23 multiple safety warning lights activated on my dashboard. I took my vehicle to my Honda Dealer and after two days it was returned and I was told that it was repaired. The next day while driving the exact same thing occurred and I noticed that the vehicle was not accelerating normally and the brake warning light activated although there were no cars or objects in front of me. I returned to the dealership who kept my vehicle for 5 days returning it to me and telling me that they could not duplicate the error. I drove my car approximately ten miles from the dealership and all of the warning lights again activated and the vehicle was not accelerating as it had prior to this problem. I returned to the dealership and they now have the vehicle and explained that they will contact the Honda Help line.

2022 Honda Ridgeline recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2022 Honda Ridgeline.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
- Summary: Honda (America Honda Motor Co) is recalling certain 2020-2024 Ridgeline vehicles. The rearview camera (RVC) tailgate wire harness may fatigue and break, which can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.
- Consequence: A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the RVC tailgate wire harness, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed July 1, 2024. Second letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Honda service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is YI7.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER

I took possession of the vehicle in early March this year and I must say, I am very impressed with its quality and driving characteristics. It replaced my 2016 RX350 and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Before making the purchase, I test drove a 2017 model owned by my brother-in-law. Although I am not particularly fond of the push button shift, I am getting used to it. The only issue I have had with the vehicle is that the clock spring on the steering column has had to be replaced twice already. Unfortunately, I am already noticing the creaking sound coming from the steering wheel again which signals that it will have to be replaced again pretty soon. Thankfully, all replacements were done under warranty at the Honda dealer where I purchased the vehicle. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem? [contact info removed]

Hey there! I totally get where you're coming from - it can be tough to adjust to a new vehicle, especially when you're used to something as great as a 2014 F-150. But I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your Ridgeline! It sounds like it has all the luxury you were looking for, plus great gas mileage. And the best part? You saved a whopping $25,000 compared to the F-150 you were considering. While it's still early days with only 3,000 miles on the clock, it's great to hear that you're happy with your purchase. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I've been an owner of cars and SUVs for years, but recently decided to look into small trucks and ultimately selected the Ridgeline. I've been really satisfied with its comfort, performance, and value. I've taken the vehicle on long trips and the comfort is great, although the MPG could be better. One feature I really like is the hidden compartment below the bed liner, which provides more secure storage. Overall, I would definitely purchase this vehicle again.
-
Great truck! It's so quiet and has a smooth ride. Plus, it's loaded with lots of nice features.

I'm so glad to hear that you love everything about your new 2022 Ridgeline!

I previously owned a 2019 Ridgeline and absolutely loved it. However, when it developed transmission problems at around 30,000 miles, I decided to purchase a 2022 Ridgeline. Unfortunately, I have not had the same positive experience with this truck. There are a few design choices that I find frustrating, such as having to remove a plastic engine cover and an exhaust manifold to access the battery. Additionally, the push button transmission can be a bit sloppy and it's easy to accidentally put the truck in the wrong gear when parking. I was also disappointed to find out that there is no option to install a CD player as Honda removed the connector. Lastly, the truck turns off when you stop and there is no way to permanently override this feature, which can cause a delay when starting. Overall, I have not been satisfied with my purchase and would not consider buying another Ridgeline. I hope Honda takes customer feedback into account when designing future models.

I'm on my third Ridgeline now and I've loved every one of them. I've put well over 250K miles on my first two and they were both great. The 2022 model is no exception. It's incredibly comfortable with great ergonomics and plenty of room for four adults. The engine performance is also very good. While the 3-clutch transmission can be a little quirky and tends to roll a bit before engaging, it's still a great ride. After 26K miles, I'm getting over 24 mpg which is fantastic. One of my favourite features is the trunk under the cargo bed which locks and is water-tight. The only thing I wish was different is that the cargo gate also locked, which would provide additional secure storage with a hard tonneau cover. The sonar can also be a bit quirky, as it trips the on-safety braking if there's too much snow, bug splatter, or if a car is approaching on an inside curve. Despite these minor issues, the overall ride and performance are great. However, the navigation, radio controls, hands-free features, Bluetooth, Honda Link, and the entire tech package are just terrible. They rarely work properly and the nav system is awkward. Unless you have the exact street address, it can't locate very common sites or places. Voice commands are also a joke. Despite these issues, I still love the vehicle and would highly recommend it. I doubt I'll buy another one, but that's only because of the tech issues. Overall, it's a great ride and I'm very happy with it.
