2011 Honda Ridgeline problems
The Honda Ridgeline is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by Honda. Currently the company's only pickup, it is built using a unibody frame and a transverse-mounted engine. It is offered only in a crew–cab short-box configuration with one powertrain.
First generation (YK1; 2006)
The first-generation Ridgeline went on sale in March 2005 as a 2006 model year vehicle. The Car Design Yearbook called it "Honda's first foray into the true heartland of the American automotive way of life—the pickup truck." An engineering team from Honda R&D Americas, led by Gary Flint, designed the vehicle. According to the author of Driving Honda, the automaker wanted to target buyers who were looking to move to a pickup from sedans, minivans, and sport utility vehicles (SUV).
The development started in 2001 with a development mule using an extended version of a first-generation Acura MDX with a competitor's pickup bed integrated into the rear structure. After four years of development, a Sport Utility Truck Concept was shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Later that same year, Honda unveiled a revised version at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show and announced the official name of the vehicle, the Ridgeline. The production version of the Ridgeline was unveiled the following year at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.
Honda's publications claim that the first generation Ridgeline shared only 7% of its components with other Honda vehicles. Its powertrain resembled the one used in the first-generation Acura MDX but was "extensively calibrated and strengthened" for heavier hauling and towing duties.
Production of the first generation Ridgeline ended in early 2015.

Common 2011 Honda Ridgeline problems
The 2011 Honda Ridgeline has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include:
- Transmission Issues: Many owners of the 2006 Ridgeline complained about the transmission system, particularly how it refuses to shift into the fourth gear. Other owners reported that the transmission would malfunction intermittently, while others complained about excessive vibrations while on the road. In some cases, the Ridgeline transmission would experience hesitations and hard shifts between 40 and 45 mph speeds. The most common culprit is the torque converter.
- Electrical Troubles: Some owners complained about horns blaring out of nowhere, while some had problems with the vehicle’s forward collision sensing feature. Another noteworthy electrical issue with the Ridgeline pickup is with the headlights. Numerous drivers complained that their headlights stopped working after a few years. Honda had to issue a recall to address the headlight issue.
- Engine and Engine Cooling Exterior Lighting Structure: The 2011 Honda Ridgeline has had recalls related to engine and engine cooling, exterior lighting, and structure. These recalls were related to issues such as fuel tank leaks, engine stalling, and brake fluid leaks.
- Interior Accessories: Some owners have reported issues with interior accessories such as the audio system, power windows, and power door locks. These issues can lead to problems with the sound system, windows not working properly, and doors not locking or unlocking as they should.
It is important to note that these issues do not affect all 2011 Honda Ridgeline owners, and many owners have reported positive experiences with the vehicle. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

2011 Honda Ridgeline recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 11 recalls for different components of the 2011 Honda Ridgeline.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame mounting surface, where the fuel tank mounting bands are attached, to corrode and possibly detach the fuel tank, which can result in a fuel leak.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed August 9, 2022. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is LCD.
- Manufacturer: Dorman Products, Inc.
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."
- Consequence: If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

I'm so glad to hear that you and your son are both enjoying your Ridgelines! The in-bed trunk is definitely a standout feature that many people appreciate. It's great to hear that you find it so useful, especially for things like golf clubs. The Ridgeline really does offer a comfortable and classy ride, and it's impressive how versatile it is. I hope that Honda does consider adding a V8 option in the future to give you even more power. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with the Ridgeline!

It's more of an SUV than a truck, but it has great cargo and towing capacity when you need it!

I purchased this truck on 1/5/2017 with 34,000 miles on it and I was the third owner. I have been extremely pleased with its dependability over the past 5 years of commuting. The only services required were minimal routine maintenance. Even after 5 years and 100,000 miles, it still looks and runs like new. I have used it for everything from moving furniture to hauling mulch or construction waste, and it has been perfect for all tasks short of full-size heavy hauling. It is also excellent in New England snow. The interior is still clean and comfortable, making it a great utility vehicle for most homeowners. While the gas mileage could be better, it is not a deal breaker. Overall, this truck is the best decision any DIY guy or lady could make. I plan to drive this beauty until the wheels fall off, and when they do, I will put them back on and keep on truckin'.

I've had the Ridgeline for about a month and I absolutely love it! I've driven trucks all my life and this is by far the best one yet. The drive is so smooth and quiet, and I'm pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage - it's even better than the EPA estimates. I'm definitely a Honda fan now and will keep buying them as long as they keep making them!

I see that you've had the 2010 Ridgeline for 30 days and 700 miles. It's great to hear that you've owned 7 Honda's and have had excellent experiences with them. The Ridgeline is an excellent truck that can meet most people's needs and it rides like a full-size car.

We owned a 2010 RTL, which was our second Ridgeline. Although we enjoyed the truck, we decided to trade it in for a 2008 Lexus GX470 after 17 months. Why did we do this, you may ask? To us, the answer is simple - while the Honda excels in some areas, it falls short in others. Although it has great highway manners and ride quality, the wind and road noise at highway speeds is unbearable. When we brought up the issue with Honda, we were told that all Ridgelines are like that. Really? Are they designed to be noisy? Apparently, gas mileage is more important. Speaking of which, our 2010 only averaged a measly 17.x mpg on a recent 3000 mile highway trip.

I owned a Ridgeline RTL for 30 months. Although I initially loved the vehicle, I encountered some quality issues. The rear sliding window seal would get pinched and leak, and there was wind noise on the front windshield due to the window seal pulling away, especially during cold weather. I also experienced a high-pitched 'whistle' that I tracked down to a body seam behind the XM antenna, which I was able to silence by covering the seam with electrical tape. Additionally, there was a dash rattle caused by the factory not tightening the left front speaker screws, and the dash had to be removed, creating a new rattle. I also had a problem with the heater temperature sensor control, and the door and body panel seams were aligned poorly. Lastly, the rear seat was uncomfortable.

I bought this vehicle because Consumer Reports rated it highly. However, I found it to be useless in the snow. The iframe crossbar underneath catches snow and stops it from moving, making it difficult to drive. Additionally, it did not have as good mileage as the Tacoma, although it was faster when needed. I also experienced issues with the power windows not going up in the cold, and had to pull them up by hand and press the button. The 4 position tire sensor was overly complex and expensive to maintain, as I had to pay a lot of money to reprogram it every time I rotated the tires (which was required twice a year for my Honda AWD). Overall, I found this vehicle to be quite needy. However, it was easy to sell, which was a relief as I could not get rid of it fast enough.

The driver's seat squeaks and unfortunately, Honda is currently unable to provide a repair for it. According to the Honda Field Service Person, the squeak is considered normal. The local dealership service writer found this remark amusing. However, Honda Customer Service may not be able to assist with a fix at this time. Based on this experience, the writer may not consider purchasing another Honda vehicle, but this is understandable given the circumstances.
