2009 Honda Ridgeline problems
The Honda Ridgeline is a mid-size pickup truck manufactured by Honda. Currently the company's only pickup, it is built using a unibody frame and a transverse-mounted engine. It is offered only in a crew–cab short-box configuration with one powertrain.
First generation (YK1; 2006)
The first-generation Ridgeline went on sale in March 2005 as a 2006 model year vehicle. The Car Design Yearbook called it "Honda's first foray into the true heartland of the American automotive way of life—the pickup truck." An engineering team from Honda R&D Americas, led by Gary Flint, designed the vehicle. According to the author of Driving Honda, the automaker wanted to target buyers who were looking to move to a pickup from sedans, minivans, and sport utility vehicles (SUV).
The development started in 2001 with a development mule using an extended version of a first-generation Acura MDX with a competitor's pickup bed integrated into the rear structure. After four years of development, a Sport Utility Truck Concept was shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. Later that same year, Honda unveiled a revised version at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show and announced the official name of the vehicle, the Ridgeline. The production version of the Ridgeline was unveiled the following year at the 2005 North American International Auto Show.
Honda's publications claim that the first generation Ridgeline shared only 7% of its components with other Honda vehicles. Its powertrain resembled the one used in the first-generation Acura MDX but was "extensively calibrated and strengthened" for heavier hauling and towing duties.
Production of the first generation Ridgeline ended in early 2015.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-06
- VIN: 5FPYK16599B
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: After driving through Lake Alfred and getting on I-4 heading NE bound toward Orlando, I noticed a very loud noise. I drove to the next exit a few miles down the road (the car seemed to handle fine), Exit 55 at Davenport FL. On the exit ramp, I began to smell burning rubber. After pulling over into the grass off of the exit ramp (to clear traffic) and coming to a complete stop - I smelt Gasoline. I killed the ignition and looked under the vehicle (see attachments). I immediately called 911 to get a fire truck - as to my surprise - I had a fuel leak right next to dragging metal (how this didn't ignite is beyond me - but I am grateful it did NOT ignite!). First fire truck arrived about 10min after calling 911and they requested a second truck be rolled out also. I did not know what was going on. Under the guidance of the Fire fighters - I called my insurance company to organize a Tow truck. I assumed something had caused undercarriage damage (although I did not distinctly recall hitting anything). State Farm organized to Tow it to their authorized repair station - who then advise they will not be repairing the vehicle due to an open Safety Recall. State Farm then had the vehicle towed to the nearest Honda Dealer in Winter Haven to investigate. I NEVER received a Recall Notice! I have had this vehicle since 2020 and it has been registered and tagged in BOTH Kentucky and Florida. Even with this - I never received a Recall Notice!!! I called America Honda 9/6 at 9:49am & spoke with Jessica. I inquired as to why they did not send me a Recall Notice. She stated that they only had me listed as an owner of a 2003 Accord (which I purchased in 2023). For some reason they did not have my Honda Ridgeline showing me as the registered owner? I was very upset by this. I spoke with a David at Winter Haven Honda and he said that the Dealership has sent the Inspection photos to America Honda. I'm still awaiting resolution to this Safety Recall Investigation.

- VIN: 5FPYK165X9B
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AROUND WITH MY WIFE AND SMALL CHILDREN UNAWARE OF THE POSSIBLE HARM THAT COULD COME TO THEM FROM THE "EXPLODING" AIRBAGS. WE JUST RECEIVED OUR TRUCK BACK WITH THE FIXED DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG AFTER HAVING A RENTAL FOR 3 MONTHS SINCE HONDA DID NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PARTS YET. WE JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE "EXPLODING" PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WHICH THEY ALSO DO NOT HAVE PARTS FOR. WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE OUR TRUCK FOR FEAR THAT THE AIRBAGS COULD HURT OUR SMALL CHILDREN OR OTHER PASSENGERS. WE HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE #S PROVIDED ON THE RECALL BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET ANY RESPONSE FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS. WE ARE CONCERNED THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS DEFECTIVE AS WELL BEFORE THEY GAVE OUR VEHICLE BACK TO US SUPPOSEDLY "FIXED." WE ARE ALSO CONCERNED THAT OUR SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS HAVE THE SAME DEFECTS AND EVEN IF WE GET OUR PASSENGER AIRBAG FIXED THERE WILL BE YET ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE SIDE AIRBAGS.

2009 Honda Ridgeline recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 9 recalls for different components of the 2009 Honda Ridgeline.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
- Summary: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame mounting surface, where the fuel tank mounting bands are attached, to corrode and possibly detach the fuel tank, which can result in a fuel leak.
- Consequence: A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed August 9, 2022. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is LCD.
- Manufacturer: Dorman Products, Inc.
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL
- Summary: Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."
- Consequence: If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

The vehicles are equipped with passenger frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag inflator, free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are E5D and X5C.

The affected vehicles received a replacement driver air bag inflator as part of a previous Takata inflator recall remedy or a replacement driver air bag module containing the same inflator type as a service part. Due to a manufacturing error, in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver frontal air bag, these inflators may explode.
- Consequence: An explosion of an inflator within the driver frontal air bag module may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver, front seat passenger or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began April 10, 2019. I've owned 5 Fords and 1 Chevy, but I finally decided to get out of the big truck mode. It was a huge decision, but I'm extremely pleased to say that it was the right one. The Ridgeline has a great design, it's fun to drive, and it's a pleasure to own. Plus, I get to keep the extra dollars saved on gas! This is a solidly built truck that gets the job done. It's hard to believe that the big three couldn't figure out how to put the trunk feature in the full-size trucks or design seats that actually fold up and give real cargo space. Oh, and did I mention that there are no rattles either? If you're thinking about buying a truck, make sure to test drive the Ridgeline. Don't let your manly beliefs hold you back from experiencing a great ride. You'll be surprised and a lot happier that you did. I know I am!

Check out the history online, including Carfax. Even though it's a good vehicle, you still might be able to negotiate the price with the dealership, especially if there's only light cosmetic damage. I wish I had noticed the outside of the truck better and paid attention to the small details.

I've had this truck for a little over a month and it's been excellent. More people should definitely consider it. I compared it to the Tundra, Tacoma, F-150 and Chevy and it's by far the best value! The trunk is awesome, the ride is car-like, and it has more than sufficient off-road (4x4) capability for 99% of us. The towing ability is respectable and the interior features are a great blend of luxury, quirky, and utility truck. It's so easy and pleasant to drive this truck. After 5 years of a Tacoma and a lousy Chevy 2500, I've finally stepped up into a truck built just for me. The gas mileage is okay, averaging about 18.5, but I can get over 21 on the highway. The V-6 has plenty of power and torque. Overall, it's a great truck of high quality and I even like the looks.

I currently have 8500 miles on my truck. I just got back from a 2000+ mile trip from Amarillo to Walsenburg, CO to San Luis Lake SP to Navajo SP to Durango to Albuquerque, NM and back home. I towed a 4400 lb (600 on hitch) travel trailer at 55 mph (my choice -- it was more comfortable driving 55 than faster -- I'm 67 yrs old!). I went over 3 passes (Raton: 7800 ft, La Veta: 9400 ft, & Wolf Creek, 10,868 ft) and got 12.5 mpg while towing. I went up the passes at 55 mph until the speed dropped, then reset the cruise at 40 mph and stepped on the throttle until the transmission dropped into 2nd gear. I walked the passes at 3800rpm @ 40 mph in 2nd on cruise with no problems at all. My truck has been absolutely fantastic and has done everything I've asked of it and more.

We traded in our old SUV for a pickup and I couldn't be happier with our choice of the Ridgeline. It's been four months since our purchase and it still turns heads with its stylish design and nifty features. Driving it is a pleasure, as it has a car-like feel. Overall, it's a big-time winner!

I am confident that Honda produces excellent compact cars, coupes, and sedans. However, in my experience, their trucks do not meet the same high standards. The MPG is at best 10, and the interior is made entirely of plastic, which looks cheap and rattles. Additionally, the sunroof seal leaks water when the glass is closed. Despite these issues, the stereo system with navigation is a standout feature. I am eagerly anticipating the end of my lease in 20 months, at which point I plan to switch to a Tundra, a true truck.
