The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV manufactured by Toyota mainly for the North American market since 2000 for the 2001 model year, being derived from the Tundra pickup truck. It is the second largest SUV ever produced under the Toyota brand, after the Japan-exclusive, military-focused Mega Cruiser.
Previously manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana between 2000 and 2021, and then in Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio, Texas since 2022, the Sequoia is the first vehicle from a Japanese marque in the popular mainstream full-sized SUV class in North America, and initial planning done by first-generation Sequoia chief engineer Kaoru Hosokawa aimed the Sequoia directly at the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and other full-size SUVs.
Up until the 2021 model year, the Sequoia was slotted between the mid-size 4Runner and the premium Land Cruiser in the North American Toyota SUV lineup. With the discontinuation of North American sales of the Land Cruiser from the 2022 model year onward, the Sequoia became the flagship SUV in Toyota's North America lineup.
As of 2021, the Sequoia is sold in the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica. It is offered in left-hand drive only.

- Summary: WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC IN A PARKING LOT TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY, WITH CAR IN "DRIVE", FOOT ON BRAKE AND AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO A HIGH IDLE (APPROX 1200-1500 RPM). THE CAR LUNGED FORWARDED SLIGHTLY, BUT I WAS ABLE TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE AND STOP WITHOUT COLLIDING WITH THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME. WHEN I ENTERED THE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THE ACCELERATOR WAS UNRESPONSIVE. I WAS ABLE TO COAST BACK TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING ANY TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. I NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND ENGINE WAS STILL AT A HIGH IDLE. I PUT THE CAR IN "PARK" AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER A FEW SECONDS I RESTARTED THE ENGINE; THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON BUT THE ENGINE IDLED NORMAL AND THE ACCELERATOR RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP EARLY THE FOLLOWING WEEK, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD ALREADY GONE OFF. THE DEALERSHIP KEPT THE CAR ALL WEEK, BUT WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET THE CAR AT THE END OF THE WEEK, THEY INDICATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE MALFUNCTION AND NO FAULT CODES WERE STORED IN THE CAR'S COMPUTER. HOWEVER, THE CAR MALFUNCTIONED IN THE EXACT SAME MANNER JUST A FEW HOURS AFTER I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, FORTUNATELY IN RELATIVELY SAFE CONDITIONS. I WAS AGAIN ABLE TO "RESET" THE ACCELERATOR FUNCTION BY TURNING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING. AND I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL ON. THIS TIME THEY INDICATED THAT SEVERAL FAULT CODES HAD BEEN STORED IN THE COMPUTER--SOME THAT THEY WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH. THEY KEPT THE CAR IN THE SHOP FOR ANOTHER WEEK AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE MALFUNCTION MIGHT BE ELECTRONIC/SOFTWARE RELATED. IF THE ACCELERATOR BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE IN TRAFFIC, THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY CREATE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. *TR

The power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in an oil leak.
- Consequence: An oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
- Consequence: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. - Consequence: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.

I recently traded in my 03 Pilot with 100K miles on it, which was a great car. I decided to upgrade to the top of the line Platinum, but unfortunately, my wife backed into a pile of rocks in a parking lot island just three weeks later. It turns out that the sonar is off until you turn it on, which was our mistake, but it still feels like a major design flaw. Despite this setback, I have put 4K miles on the car and have noticed a major vibration at highway speeds. After some investigation, I found that the universal joint was failing and the drive shaft was bad. Thankfully, these issues were covered under warranty, but I still feel that Toyota's reputation is somewhat overrated. I consider these issues unacceptable for a $60K vehicle. If you don't need to tow, I would recommend buying a Pilot instead. However, if you do need to tow, this is still a nice car. Unfortunately, the Platinum model doesn't offer a bench 2nd row, and there is limited room behind the 3rd row due to wasted space between rows 1&2. Overall, I think this is a nice car, but there are some drawbacks to consider.

Congratulations on your new 2010 Toyota Sequoia! It sounds like you made an excellent choice. The SUV is powerful and capable both on and off the road, and the JBL Synthesis sound system is fantastic. While the fuel mileage may not be the best, it's still one of the best full-sized SUVs on the market today. In fact, I would highly recommend it over the Expedition, Tahoe, Yukon, and Armada any day.

The Good Stuff: This truck is a real gem! It looks great and even with 90K miles on the clock, it still drives like new. It's perfect for towing too! The Bad: Unfortunately, the leather seats are not up to scratch. They're poor quality and the bucket seats are uncomfortable. Additionally, the gas mileage could be better.

We traded in a Lexus Hybrid for this vehicle and have been very pleased. It's like driving a living room on wheels, extremely comfortable on both short and long trips. The third row is truly functional as well as comfortable. I highly recommend the power option for the third row seats. I would definitely recommend this vehicle for a family that needs a luxurious ride with great reliability. We were considering a mini-van, but after driving this Sequoia, there is no comparison.

I'm on my third Sequoia (mixed in between with 2 Expeditions) and I wouldn't have bought it without the new folding third row on this generation. While the headroom is a bit tight for taller drivers with a sunroof, the value is top-notch and it has awesome power. The gas mileage is on the lower end of the segment, but that's not a deal-breaker. Although the Toyota NAV system is typical 'junk', I'm not really disappointed, just pointing out some flaws. Overall, it's still heads and shoulders over the Tahoe/Suburban and Expedition. I do wish they would tighten up the suspension a bit, but as a 4wd, it can handle some roughness for better handling. A hybrid option would have been a nice addition.

Taken as a whole, this is a great vehicle, and great looking too. However, it could benefit from a few more features (see below). Additionally, the dash panels could be improved as they are made of a cheaper plastic. Overall, though, it's a fantastic car!

Hey there! If you're considering buying a car, you might want to take a closer look at some other options. We had a Toyota and unfortunately, we had some issues with visibility and handling. We also found that the maintenance costs added up over time. We had some trouble with alignment, which caused abnormal tire wear after a couple of rotations. I have to admit, this purchase was a compromise for me. Although I wasn't initially sold on the new, larger interior, we decided to take a chance on this vehicle to accommodate our family and pets, especially considering our love for our 2003 Limited Sequoia. However, there are a few things that I would like to mention. Firstly, the size of the vehicle can make it difficult to park, despite the improved turning radius. Secondly, the interior finish is not up to par, with cheap plastic materials used throughout. Additionally, the seats are not very comfortable. Lastly, I miss the cargo space in my 2003 Sequoia, as the self-storing third row reduces the amount of available space. Overall, I still appreciate the features of this vehicle and hope to get used to its size soon.
