Common 2007 Saab 9-5 problems

The Saab 9-5, particularly the 2007 model, has several common problems that owners have reported. These issues span across various components of the vehicle, including electrical, engine, transmission, suspension, body, and exterior components.

Electrical problems are a significant concern for the Saab 9-5, with issues such as ignition switch problems, dashboard lights, and power windows malfunctioning. Some owners have reported problems with the car's electrical system, which can result in issues such as a dead battery or problems with the alternator

Engine problems are another common issue with the Saab 9-5. Some owners have reported issues with the engine, including oil sludge buildup, which can cause engine damage and failure. Additionally, the engine may experience issues such as turbo failure, problems with the timing chain, and overheating

Transmission problems are also a concern for the Saab 9-5, with issues such as slipping gears, hard shifting, and problems with the torque converter

Suspension problems are common in the Saab 9-5, with issues such as worn-out shocks, struts, and bushings, which can cause excessive vibrations, noise, and a rough ride

Body and exterior issues are also a concern for the Saab 9-5. The car is known to have issues with rust, especially around the wheel arches, and the car's paint may fade or peel over time. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the car's headlights, which can be expensive to replace

The 2007 Saab 9-5 has 17 problems and defects reported by 9-5 owners, with the worst complaints being seat belts/airbags problems.

The Saab 9-5's engine is known for its complex design and expensive spare parts, which can make maintenance costly. The direct ignition system used in the engine is particularly expensive to maintain, with faulty valve lifters and electronic problems being too costly to repair

The Saab 9-5's suspension is not very durable and can be burdensome to restore. The most expensive part in the restoration is the transmission, making it essential to ensure that the engine and gearbox are in excellent condition when choosing a suitable Swede

In summary, the Saab 9-5, particularly the 2007 model, has several common problems that owners have reported. These issues span across various components of the vehicle, including electrical, engine, transmission, suspension, body, and exterior components. It is essential to ensure that the vehicle has been properly maintained and has undergone regular servicing to avoid any problems that may arise in the future.

Is Saab 9-5 a good car?

Saab's 9-5 is a competent car with capable and secure handling. A major 2010 redesign produced a car that wasn't as well rounded as previous 9-5s. It handles fairly nimbly and has great fit and finish, but the 220-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine is noisy and a little weak for the class.

What year of Saab is the most reliable?

The Saab 900 (1994-1998) is a mid-size luxury car produced by the Swedish automaker Saab. It is the fourth generation of the Saab 900 series. Known for its Scandinavian design, innovative features, and solid build quality, the Saab 900 (1994-1998) is considered one of the most reliable Saabs in its lineup.

Why does Saab have a bad reputation?

One of the main reasons for its failure is poor reliability. The 9-5 had a well-constructed body, but its interior doesn't hold up over the years. Wear and tear are relatively noticeable, and the green-backlit LED display became a chore to read with age.

Which is better Saab 9-3 or 9-5?

When we compare the Saab 9-3's and the Saab 9-5's specifications and ratings, the Saab 9-3 has the advantage in the areas of typical lower range of pricing for one- to five-year-old used cars, and fuel efficiency. The Saab 9-5 has the advantage in the areas of interior volume and base engine power.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-13
  • VIN: YS3ED49G573
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: My vehicle was on recall for Takata air bags. My vehicle was then installed with a new set of Takata airbags. Are not these airbags just as unsafe? Have not there been cases of the same issues happening to these airbags? Is my 2017 front passenger Airbag going to explode like a grenade and kill me? These are all questions I have, but I am told these airbags are safe. Yet I have seen lawsuits where someone died in another vehicle make but with 2017 Takata airbags as the cause of death and or injury. Should not my car have been replaced with non Takata brand airbags? Are any Takata airbags safe when compared to other brands?

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET IT CORRECTED ? A DEATH OR 2, OR 400? I ALSO HAVE A 2001 SAAB 9-5 AND THIS PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST. HOW CAN A CAR PRODUCER BE ALLOWED TO PRODUCE DANGEROUS CARS LIKE THIS? Negative 2007 Saab 9-5 car reviews

  1. Nicolas Pagac 2024-10-24

I have owned many cars, including most types. However, this 39th new car has been a huge disappointment, comparable to my experience with GM's and Fords in the 80s. Unfortunately, within just two days of owning it, the side 'memory seat' lower seat wrap around and buttons broke off the driver's seat and are now hanging. Although parts are on order, the low gas mileage for such a tiny engine is also a concern. If a 2.3L engine were in a Honda, it would get 45 MPG, not 18. In light of these issues, I cannot recommend purchasing a SAAB. Other cars offer greater value and quality at lower costs.

  2. Bernhard McCullough 2024-02-02

Nice car! It's great to hear that it runs better on Super fuel. The front seat seems very cozy, and while the back seats are nice, they don't have as much room as older models. It's also pretty sweet to look at in black.

Positive 2007 Saab 9-5 car reviews

  1. Richie Hayes 2024-11-25

Hi there! I haven't had the car for very long, but I'm already so impressed with it! I'm really tired of the heavy feeling that many vehicles have, so I love how this car combines power with a light feeling. It's not like you need a long runway to get it going! It's so hard to find a vehicle that's fun to drive around town but also makes for a great touring sedan, but this car seems to be good at both. I'll have a better idea when I take a 1600 mile road trip in a couple of weeks, but I'm already feeling pretty optimistic!

  2. Sage Kulas 2024-07-17

I decided to buy this car (a 2007 w/ 45,000 miles) after test driving all three - the 2007 Honda Accord, the 2007 Toyota Camry, and this SAAB. In my opinion, this car is the best ride of all three - by a long shot. It's the most fun I've ever had driving a vehicle, with great power - 260 HP w/ turbo - and a smooth, quiet ride. I even think it has a better ride than my wife's Mercedes-Benz ML 340. Long live SAAB!

  3. Luigi King 2024-06-21

Brisk acceleration and very fun to drive, especially on the highway. This spacious midsize sedan comfortably seats four adults and has a huge trunk. The sporty design and feel, along with the thumping stereo system, make for an enjoyable ride. Shifting the transmission to the 'sport' mode increases the fun factor. The large, oversized Pirelli tires provide excellent grip, and the noticeable front-end steering torque adds to the excitement.

  4. Mose Ferry 2024-06-10

That's awesome! Your family now has a second Saab, a 2007 sedan that your son drives at college. It's a perfect car for him, especially since Saab is well-known for its safety features. It's great that he gets to drive something different from everyone else. You found it used with 78k miles for only $3800, which is a great deal. You refreshed it with a long list of things that needed to be replaced due to age, and I'm sure your son will get many years of use out of it. Just keep in mind that parts are getting harder to find, so always make sure to get high-quality, original parts online. It's also important to be the type of person who can do your own repairs, as this could save you a fortune at a shop. But don't worry, they're not hard to work on and there's plenty of help available online.

  5. Kaleigh Heller 2024-06-08

If you're a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes driver, you might not be blown away by the Saab 9-5. However, it's a powerful and comfortable car that can carry a lot of stuff in the wagon model. It's spacious enough for five people, and it's well-built and has a unique charm. Best of all, it's much more affordable than its German and Japanese competitors. It's the kind of car that you'll want to keep in the family for years to come. Think of it as a cooler and more stylish version of an old Volvo wagon.
