The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV manufactured by Toyota mainly for the North American market since 2000 for the 2001 model year, being derived from the Tundra pickup truck. It is the second largest SUV ever produced under the Toyota brand, after the Japan-exclusive, military-focused Mega Cruiser.
Previously manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana in Princeton, Indiana between 2000 and 2021, and then in Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas in San Antonio, Texas since 2022, the Sequoia is the first vehicle from a Japanese marque in the popular mainstream full-sized SUV class in North America, and initial planning done by first-generation Sequoia chief engineer Kaoru Hosokawa aimed the Sequoia directly at the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and other full-size SUVs.
Up until the 2021 model year, the Sequoia was slotted between the mid-size 4Runner and the premium Land Cruiser in the North American Toyota SUV lineup. With the discontinuation of North American sales of the Land Cruiser from the 2022 model year onward, the Sequoia became the flagship SUV in Toyota's North America lineup.
As of 2021, the Sequoia is sold in the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica. It is offered in left-hand drive only.

- Summary: On [XXX] while driving our 2011 Toyota Sequoia 4x4 Limited (5.7 iforce non flex fuel) my wife was preparing to stop at a traffic light. Completely unexpected and with no warning, the vehicle started bucking, the engine began making a knocking noise and numerous dashboard lights started flashing. It immediately stalled while attempting to stop, thus, causing a very dangerous situation, losing total control of the brakes and steering, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of her. The vehicle had to be towed from the middle of the road, while in heavy traffic. Eventually it was diagnosed (at my mechanics shop) and determined to be a broken valve spring in cylinder #7. This caused the valve to drop into the cylinder bore, making contact with the piston, known as "catastrophic failure on an 'interference' engine"..I later learned that these DEFECTIVE ($5) valve springs, are used in my meticulously maintained 5.7 Toyota motor,...THE SAME PART NUMBER UNDER RECALL IN SEVERAL LEXUS VEHICLES!! Being that I constantly maintained this vehicle and it being in overall excellent condition, I determined it was less expensive to have the engine replaced over repaired. I spent over $4600 in a used motor with 88k miles, and $5400 in labor for the replacement.. total cost of over $10,000 for a $5 defective part that was only recalled on the Lexus vehicles. I kept the original engine in case I can (eventually) have Toyota Corp do an inspection on it and get some kind of compensation on this dangerous, avoidable, selective vehicle recall. No luck thus far but have pictures, invoices and all documents on this situation that I can provide when requested. I am having difficulty downloading these documents to this site. EVIDENCE OF THIS PROBLEM IS READILY AVAILABLE SEARCHING "TOYOTA TUNDRA CAM LEAK FIRE", FURTHERMORE, CHANGE.ORG PETITION HAS OVER 5,178 SIGNATURES REQUESTING THE RECALL. THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED IN VEHICLES FROM 1,000 MILES AND UP. TOYOTA NOW USES A DIFFERENT SEALANT TO PREVENT THIS LEAKING, SO THEY MUST HAVE RECOGNIZED THE ISSUE BUT HAVE REMAINED SILENT. UPON CONTACTING TOYOTA, THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT HE "HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM". THE DEALERSHIP THAT IS FIXING THIS HAS A NUMBER OF EXPERIENCED MECHANICS THAT DO SEE THIS OFTEN. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION AND THE COST TO REPAIR IS OVER $3,000!

DEALERSHIP NOW ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM AS IT WAS SO SEVERE IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO IGNORE. ONCE THE PROBLEM WAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE ROTORS RESURFACED AS THE CAR WAS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THEY DESIGNED THIS FROM THE MODEL WITH CHAMBER BREACH WHILE A SOLID ROCKET GENERANT, NOW IT IS FILLED WITH GAS MIX UNIDENTIFIED. EVERY YEAR WE HAZ THIS PROBLEM, FROM OCTOBER TO JANUARY THEY DECIDE WHAT HAZ WHOOPING GAS THEY WILL FILL WITH IN THE NEW MODEL RELEASED IN JANUARY. NEXT THEY WILL DECIDE THE SOLID ROCKET GENERANT FROM JANUARY TO MARCH. AUTOLIV HAS INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE LEAKING CYLINDER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. AS TRENDED PREVIOUSLY, SIDE CURTAIN GUILLOTINES TRAP THE HEAD IN THE FORCE AND DIRECTION OF THE CRASH AND REPEATEDLY WHIP CUSTOMERS WHEN DOOR STRUCTURE HAZ BEEN COMPROMISED. I HAD A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA PRIOR TO BUYING THIS CAR AND THE HEADRESTS IN THE THIRD ROW OF THAT CAR HAD NUMEROUS SETTINGS FOR THE THIRD ROW HEADRESTS. THE TOYOTA MANUAL TALKS ABOUT ADJUSTING THE HEADRESTS SO THAT THE MIDDLE OF THE HEADREST HITS THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD NEAR YOUR EARS BUT THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO WITH THE HEADRESTS ON THE THIRD ROW. THIS WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IN A CRASH BECAUSE THE HEAD AND NECK WOULD NOT BE PROPERLY SUPPORTED. I CONTACTED THE DEALER A WEEK AGO, TWO DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR, ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 7 recalls for different components of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain JTEKT power steering gear assembly service parts for 2007-2021 Tundra and 2008-2022 Sequoia, part numbers 44250-0C160, 44250-0C131, 44250-0C170, and 11250-0C121. The power steering gear assembly may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in an oil leak.
- Consequence: An oil leak may cause a sudden loss of power steering assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the power steering gear assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on February 17, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 21TH01.

- Summary: Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2005-2011 4Runner, Highlander, Sequoia, and Sienna, 2005-2010 Avalon and Tundra, 2006-2008 Camry Solara, 2006-2010 Highlander hybrid, 2006-2011 Rav4 and Tacoma, 2007-2010 FJ Cruiser, 2007-2011 Camry hybrid, 2009-2010 Venza, 2010-2012 Prius, 1988-1990 and 2005-2010 Camry, and 1989 and 2009-2010 Corolla vehicles equipped with aftermarket accessory seat heaters with a copper strand heating element. The electrical wiring in the seat heaters may be damaged when the seat cushion is compressed.
- Consequence: If damaged, the copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the seat heaters, free of charge, and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory. The recall began on July 14, 2016. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226. SET number for this recall is SET16B.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Company (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Tundra, Sequoia, Corolla, Corolla Matrix and Scion xB, 2008-2011 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2006-2011 RAV4, 2006-2010 Yaris, and 2009-2010 Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. During the manufacturing of the Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts.
- Consequence: If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. The affected vehicles may experience compression of the seat cushion which may damage the seat heater wiring.
- Consequence: Damage to the seat heater wiring could cause the wires to short, increasing the risk of the seat burning and causing personal injury to the occupant.
- Remedy: SET will notify owners, and dealers will disconnect the heaters with copper strand heating elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory, free of charge. The recall is expected to began in January 2015. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-866-405-4226.

- Summary: Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.
- Consequence: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.
- Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

- Remedy: FOR THE LAND CRUISER, SEQUOIA, TACOMA AND TUNDRA VEHICLES, THE DEALER WILL RE-CALIBRATE THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM ON AFFECTED VEHICLES AND INSTALL AN UPDATED TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL AT NO CHARGE. FOR THE FJ CRUISER VEHICLES, THE TPMS CANNOT BE RESET SO THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) FOR THE TPMS WILL BE REPLACED. TOYOTA IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPING THE REMEDY ECU. I'm glad to hear that you owned a '04 Sequoia Limited and were interested in seeing what improvements they would make. It sounds like they have made some great changes! The interior has been brightened up and all switches are now well displayed at night. The third row seats have been simplified and can now lay flat with just the touch of a button. Additionally, getting out of the third row is now much easier with a release on the back of the second row. It's great to hear that the interior has been upgraded to be first class.

Traded in a Nissan Armada that I loved for the new 2010 Sequoia. While I could have saved $4,000 with a rebate on the new Armada, after I test drove the new Toyota Sequoia I had to have it. It is simply the best large SUV on the market now. It handles almost like a car, rides great, and gets better EPA than my Armada. You should definitely consider buying it - you won't regret it!

This is definitely the best SUV on the road right now. I used to own a Suburban, but the quality and performance of the Sequoia is unmatched. The interior is incredibly well-designed and the options are minimal, which sets it apart from competitors who nickel and dime you for every little thing. The engine performance is excellent and it gets good mileage at 17MPG (13.8 L/ 100km). Even when I'm pulling my 7000lb travel trailer, I don't notice any lack of performance. The vehicle is also very child-friendly, with easy access to all rows and built-in sun shades on all windows. The dealership treatment is also second to none, with seven years of oil changes included.

I have to admit, this purchase was a compromise for me. Although I wasn't initially sold on the new, larger interior, we decided to take a chance on this vehicle to accommodate our family and pets, especially considering our love for our 2003 Limited Sequoia. However, there are a few things that I would like to mention. Firstly, the size of the vehicle can make it difficult to park, despite the improved turning radius. Secondly, the interior finish is not up to par, with cheap plastic materials used throughout. Additionally, the seats are not very comfortable. Lastly, I miss the cargo space in my 2003 Sequoia, as the self-storing third row reduces the amount of available space. Overall, I still appreciate the features of this vehicle and hope to get used to its size soon.

We recently purchased a 2011 Toyota Sequoia. Unfortunately, we have found that many of the most important functions of the navigation system, radio, media system, etc. are inaccessible while the car is in motion. We understand that this may be a safety feature, but it has made it difficult for us to use the car as we had hoped. We believe that it is important for car makers to prioritize both safety and usability. Despite this issue, we still appreciate the many great features of the car. Taken as a whole, this is a great vehicle, and great looking too. However, it could benefit from a few more features (see below). Additionally, the dash panels could be improved as they are made of cheap plastic, which detracts from the overall aesthetic.
