The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.

- Summary: My sunroof exploded but I don't know why. There was no warning. Might have been a rock but I didn't see one. I had the sunroof closed but the fabric cover was open for light. I heard an explosive noise and then glass started raining in. I closed the fabric cover to keep the glass out of the passenger compartment. No real injuries other than a couple of glass shards being sharp. Mostly just got some skin irritation. Some areas on my car have scratched paint and plastic parts. I had my Nissan dealer look at it. They will clean up the glass and replace the sunroof for about $2000. I feel like it should be replaced for free as a warranty item. I also got an estimate from a collision shop for about $7500. There is scratched paint and plastic as well as the headliner certainly has glass in it. Their estimate was much more detailed. Filed an insurance claim today, so hope to have it all fixed up soon.

Nissan North America said the recall affects the 2013-2014 Murano vehicles. The problem stems from the power-steering hose clamp, which may not adequately secure the hose. That could allow the hose to detach and leak power-steering fluid, the company said. Power-steering fluid leaking onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes could cause a fire, Nissan said.

Steering Rack: Power steering rack and electronic power steering fluid - Power steering is very notchy. Upon inspection of vehicle found power steering rack leaking from the passenger side seal. Recommend replacing rack and bleeding power steering system. The steering wheel is attached to the steering rack by the steering shaft. When the steering wheel is turned, the steering rack interprets the directional input and pushes or pulls the front wheels in the desired direction. The steering rack is secured to the chassis.

This vehicle is a convertible and the top frame is once again damaged due to the same recall for links. I recently took the vehicle to Lorenzo Nissan as the top is not working. They advised the frame links are bound, and the frame needs to be replaced. As this was covered under previous recall, the recall is obviously not adequate.

You have a great vehicle on your hands! I noticed that you mentioned the handling, roominess, and smooth ride of the SE model, which are all fantastic features. I also agree that the CVT transmission contributes to the smoothness of the ride. It's great that you upgraded to 265/60/18 tires to improve the vehicle even further. I personally did not experience any issues with the throttle response, but I understand that some critics have mentioned it. It's good to know that you use premium fuel as recommended. I'm impressed that the vehicle handled well even when forced half off-road at 75mph! The only area for improvement that you mentioned was the highway mileage, which I can understand. I leased my fourth Murano on 9/26/13 after test driving several cars. I decided to stick with the Murano because of its smooth ride, which is unmatched thanks to the CVT. I made a smart decision by adding the navigation package. Although the design has remained unchanged for 10 years, I still gave it an 'average' rating. The Blind Spot Monitoring feature is great, but it will take me some time to trust it. I have had perfect experiences with the build quality and reliability of my last three Muranos, and I hope that the 2013 model continues this trend.

Congratulations on your new Murano LE! It sounds like you made a great choice. The LE model has some fantastic features, including memory seats, dual moonroof, power liftgate, backup camera, intelikey and bluetooth with voice dialing. The interior is also much more luxurious than the previous model, which must be a pleasure to drive. Although there are a few minor changes, it's great to hear that you and your wife are happy with your purchase and that you both love the new Murano even more than the old one.

I have owned this car since it was new. I originally went in to buy an Altima, but ended up driving out in the Murano. It has been an absolute joy to drive and has proven to be a reliable vehicle for over 142,000 miles. The only major issue I have encountered was when the transfer case went out at 138,000 miles, which cost $3000 to fix, but was still cheaper than buying a new car. The one flaw I have found is that the fuel filler neck tends to rust and pit, which causes the Check Engine light to come on. However, I have sanded it down and applied LPS3 rust preventor, so we'll see if that lasts.

Hi there! I had an issue with my car where the engine light was constantly on. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they found that the support bracket on the driver's side was broken. They quoted me $1300 to fix it, but after several conversations with Nissan, they agreed to cover the cost of the repair. It took some effort, but I finally got the OK from them.

This car can be quite challenging when it comes to basic maintenance. If you ever need to replace the spark plugs, be prepared for a bit of a task. It took me over 4 hours to replace just one plug, when it would normally take me half an hour at most. Accessing the rear components that require removal is difficult due to the lack of space. However, if you have a mechanic to do your basic maintenance, you should be fine. If not, you may want to consider other options. I miss my VW Rabbit, but I will update if I find any pros pertaining to this vehicle.

The car has an average fuel economy of 15 mpg and unfortunately, there have been numerous issues with the door locks failing. Most notably, the driver seat forward and reverse motor has been a common failure. This can be a costly repair, with owners having to shell out up to $1,800 to replace the whole assembly. However, I was able to fix the issue by testing each of the three motors and finding the forward/reverse motor to be defective. After cleaning the commutator and adjusting the brushes, the motor was operational again. It's worth noting that Nissan does not sell this motor as an OEM part and it's rare to find a used one for sale. This can be a big drawback for the Nissan Murano, as you never know when the seat will fail or the power locks, which can cost up to $1,200 to have the dealer repair. At Regal Nissan, we strive to provide the best possible service to our customers and we always aim to build a strong dealer-customer relationship. However, if you're looking for a reliable car, you may want to consider a Ford or Chevy. It's also worth noting that the master cylinder failed next, which cost $776 for the dealer to replace, but unfortunately, there were none in stock in Atlanta. Luckily, NAPA garage was able to replace it with an OEM part for $435. Next time, I plan to hone it with a tool from Pep Boys and use a kit to rebuild it. If you're experiencing issues with your Nissan, you're not alone. Many frustrated owners have shared their experiences online, with some even promising to never own another Nissan. At 45,000 miles, the Check Engine light illuminated due to a faulty Catalytic Converter, which was not correctly diagnosed by the dealer. The honeycomb in the converter was sucked into the engine, causing damage. Unfortunately, the correct diagnosis was made only after the factory warranty had expired. At 68,000 miles, the engine has scored pistons, resulting in the burning of approximately 1 quart of oil every 500 miles. The cost of repair exceeds the value of the car.
