The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.

- Summary: My sunroof exploded but I don't know why. There was no warning. Might have been a rock but I didn't see one. I had the sunroof closed but the fabric cover was open for light. I heard an explosive noise and then glass started raining in. I closed the fabric cover to keep the glass out of the passenger compartment. No real injuries other than a couple of glass shards being sharp. Mostly just got some skin irritation. Some areas on my car have scratched paint and plastic parts. I had my Nissan dealer look at it. They will clean up the glass and replace the sunroof for about $2000. I feel like it should be replaced for free as a warranty item. I also got an estimate from a collision shop for about $7500. There is scratched paint and plastic as well as the headliner certainly has glass in it. Their estimate was much more detailed. Filed an insurance claim today, so hope to have it all fixed up soon.

That could allow the hose to detach and leak power-steering fluid, the company said. Power-steering fluid leaking onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes could cause a fire, Nissan said.

- Summary: july 2024 traction warning kept appearing on a daily basis. I have pushed Traction off button which both remain on then when car is off (for about 15min or so) then both disappear. Steering Rack: Power steering rack and electronic power steering fluid - Power steering is very notchy. Upon inspection of vehicle found power steering rack leaking from the passenger side seal. Recommend replacing rack and bleeding power steering system. The steering wheel is attached to the steering rack by the steering shaft. When the steering wheel is turned, the steering rack interprets the directional input and pushes or pulls the front wheels in the desired direction. The steering rack is secured to the chassis.

This vehicle is a convertible and the top frame is once again damaged due to the same recall for links. I recently took the vehicle to Lorenzo Nissan as the top is not working. They advised the frame links are bound, and the frame needs to be replaced. As this was covered under previous recall, the recall is obviously not adequate.

Vehicle year: 2015
undefinedThe Murano is easy to steer and drive, and noticeably quieter than the previous model. The power steering is heavily assisted at lower speeds, making the vehicle easy to maneuver. It handles pretty well, better than my Rogue did, but probably not as well as its Mazda counterparts. The handling and comfort/ride quality balance is good. The engine mates well to the CVT and both are responsive. The CVT can be placed in manual mode and simulates a 7-speed conventional automatic, which is very cool. The engine is generally smooth and powerful, though it can be a little rough under hard acceleration. However, it has enough power that you usually won't feel the need to push it too hard. The engine noise is well isolated from the cabin. I have been really pleased with the highway mileage. I have driven several hundred miles and while results are mixed, on a recent trip I got 29.6 mpg after 177 highway miles, including a couple of stops at rest areas, with an average speed (according to the trip computer) of 64 mph. As long as there's not a lot of wind and the surface is level, engine RPM's can be as low as 1200-1300 in normal cruising, and almost always <1500. I got in the low 30's for mileage on several short trips at 55-60 mph. I did only get about 23 mpg on one stretch of about 100 miles driving into a lot of wind and rain, but that is to be expected. City mileage is nothing special and seems close to the claimed 21 mpg. The AWD is excellent and this thing feels rock-solid and stable in the worst weather at freeway speeds. The gas tank is over 19 gallons, so it has great highway range. The only negative aspect is visibility. This thing has a high cowl and a funky-shaped hood with flares in it, making it tough to see what's directly in front of you at close range in dark conditions, and especially towards your front quarter panels. The headlights are OK but don't provide especially good projection in my opinion. There can be some significant blind spots to the rear and sides.The last-generation Murano had better visibility than the current model. I had the chance to test drive a car with the Around View monitor system, which was excellent. Unfortunately, the car I purchased did not have it, and I believe it is only available in the SL trim for the Murano, although it is offered in the SV trim for the Rogue. If you can afford it, it is definitely worth the investment. By the way, I absolutely love the remote engine start feature, which will come in handy this winter! Update 5/19/17 - I have owned this vehicle for two years now, and I can honestly say that I like it as much today as I did the day I bought it. Overall, it is probably my favorite vehicle I have ever had. I have not had to make any repairs at all, other than a leaking tire, and the mechanical/electrical reliability has been perfect. This car is very sure-footed in heavy rain and even snow, and it is a great road cruiser. The seats are terrific for long distance trips. If I had to buy this car again, I would probably go up to the next trim level to get the around-view camera system.

This rental vehicle had a minor handling issue due to mis-matched tires and some strange rattles while driving. However, I was thoroughly impressed with its overall performance. The ride was very comfortable, even in the cloth SV trim, and acceleration was good for a CVT. During our 800 mile highway trip, I felt very confident and safe cruising at 75-80 mph the entire time. The blind zone detection indicators being on the doors instead of on the mirrors were a great feature that made me more aware of my surroundings. Although outward visibility is not the best, I quickly got used to it. Cargo room was decent for us and our two kids, but we travel lightly. I was really impressed with the mileage, getting just over 26 mpg, even with my fast driving. I would not hesitate to buy one, and would recommend getting one with a power lift gate. This rental did not have that, and the rear gate was a little awkward to use manually. Overall, this is a sound choice for a larger 2-row SUV.

I'm thrilled to share that the 2021 Murano is my first Nissan vehicle and it has exceeded my expectations! The driver's seat is incredibly comfortable and supportive, making it a joy to drive. Even the rear seats are spacious and comfortable, making long drives a breeze. What's more, I consistently get better fuel economy than the EPA estimates, averaging 8.2L/100 km on the highway and even achieving 7L/100 KPH on a 700 km trip with the cruise set at 100 KPH. I'm truly impressed with the Murano's performance, especially considering it's a 6 cylinder vehicle without any turbo, hybrid, or cylinder deactivation. The 20To date, I have logged over 42,000 km of worry-free driving. I have only had the prescribed oil changes and inspections as recommended by Nissan. Only time will tell the reliability and durability of this vehicle. So far, I would definitely give it a 5-star rating and I am 100% satisfied with my experience.

The response and handling are great, and the interior is well put together, fun, and sophisticated. It's packed with technology, all of which is user-friendly. The engine is strong, and we're excited to have a lot of fun in it for a long time.

I purchased this vehicle used and it has turned out to be a great car to drive. I commute 210 miles a day to work and this vehicle handles the trip with ease at 70 mph while using just over a quarter of a tank. The car handles turns nicely, even though it's the 2WD version. The Café Latte interior looks great and is very quiet and comfortable inside. However, the FM radio reception is not great in mountainous regions. I had to replace the passenger side view mirror, but it was an easy fix. I had to take it to the dealer to flash the memory, and I also had to replace the three original catalytic converters at 210,000 miles. Despite all of this, my Nissan Murano still has 236,000 plus miles on it and is still going strong. All in all, I really like my Nissan Murano.

The car's quality is subpar. Many components are detachable and glued, including the piece over the entry lock on the door and the passenger visor. Rusting near the window area and a faulty gas tank door, which is a common issue, caused me to break the lock and left me stranded at a gas station. I am now facing significant expenses to repair the entire front wheel braking system, including the rotors and potentially the calipers. Additionally, I had to replace the motor mounts, which cost me around $1000. Despite my frustration, I am confident that I can find a better SUV that meets my needs.

When I purchased the Murano, it had less than 5 miles on it. Unfortunately, after 6 months, the A/C went out and the diagnosis was a defective hose. Then, 8 months later, the throttle started accelerating on its own, which prevented me from braking. Fortunately, I was able to kill the engine. The diagnosis was a defective throttle. I had the car towed to Baker Nissan, who suggested I call the dealership I purchased the vehicle from. I called Sterling McCall, but they said there was nothing they could do and directed me to Nissan Corp. Even after the Toyota issues, they said it had been fixed and denied my request for a buyback. Instead, they offered me a service program to make me feel better.

I really like a lot of things about this car, but there are a few issues that I want to mention. First and foremost, the steering can be a bit sensitive at freeway speeds, which means you may need to make more corrections than you would expect. I had a shop supervisor ride with me and he agreed that the 2015 Murano has a different type of electronic power steering that causes this issue. Nissan is aware of the problem, but unfortunately there is no fix other than to check the alignment. If you're not used to how the car handles, you may not notice this issue, but it's definitely there. I would recommend taking it for a test drive on the freeway to see if it bothers you before making a purchase. Secondly, the fuel economy is not as good as reported. I'm only getting 19.9 mpg in mostly highway driving, which is well below the EPA values. This seems to be a common issue and could potentially lead to a lawsuit. Thirdly, the interior materials are cheaper than my 09 Murano and some panels don't align properly. I'm disappointed in the assembly process. Lastly, the handling isn't as good as my 09 Murano, but the ride is softer.

The car was good for the first few years, but unfortunately, the repairs started coming in. There were so many issues that it's hard to know where to begin. I bought the 04 Murano in 06 and it ran well until it hit 100K. However, the engine started burning oil at a rate of about a quart per week, which is definitely not normal. The suspension is also one of the worst I have seen on any car, with tie rods or control arms needing to be replaced every few months. Additionally, the stereo stopped working and the rear door latch needs to be greased every few months. The parts and repairs are so costly that it's like owning a BMW, and it's hard to work on because it's so difficult to replace things in the engine. Unfortunately, this is due to bad design on Nissan's part. I won't be buying a Nissan again, especially due to their V6 burning oil. It's such a disappointment. However, the car does have AWD, which is a positive feature.

The Murano has many great features such as comfort, power, 4 wheel drive, roominess, and style. It is unfortunate that Nissan has not adequately addressed the list of failure points with its customers. While newer models after 2006 may have improved, the chronic defects in the 2003-2006 models have left a major black mark in my book. The internet is rife with common chronic failures in these vehicles, and Nissan's poor handling of their responsibility to the consumer has left me with a negative impression. I have experienced enough of these failures that I will never buy a Nissan again. Although I have noted several failures on the internet, my 2006 Murano with 88,000 miles has only experienced a few minor issues. While I am fearful of the CVT transmission failing, I am grateful for the extended warranty that came with the car. Since my original review, nothing major has failed on the car, but there are some minor things such as the driver's side sun visor occasionally drooping.I've read on the web that some people have had issues with the pivot point becoming too loose, causing it to obstruct their vision. I'm expecting to have to make some adjustments, such as adding set screws or a sleeve, to stabilize it. Additionally, the cup holder plastics and springs are prone to breaking easily. I've had to repair them multiple times by adding steel pins and using plastic solvent cement to reinforce them.
