Nissan Murano problems

The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano, a midsize SUV produced by Nissan, has been praised for its attractive design and impressive lighting elements. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of issues. Here are three of the most common problems reported by Nissan Murano owners:
- Failing engine mounts causing thumping in the floor: More than 180 Nissan Murano owners have reported this issue, which typically arises around 96,000 miles. The sound comes from the engine moving too much, indicating that the engine mounts have failed and need to be replaced.
- Damaged seat adjuster assembly causing noise/rocking movement: Over 140 Nissan Murano owners have reported this problem, which generally appears after 84,000 miles. The damaged seat adjuster assembly can cause the seat to rock back and forth, squeak, or stop adjusting forward, backward, up, or down.
- Air intake tube on the air cleaner box becoming loose: Nearly 40 Nissan Murano owners have reported this issue, which typically arises around 84,000 miles. This problem is related to a recall for 2003 to 2007 models of the Murano, where the air cleaner box or tube can come loose. If your Murano falls within this model year range and has this issue, the repair should be covered by Nissan.
These issues can affect the reliability and overall satisfaction of Nissan Murano owners. It is essential to consider these common problems when considering purchasing a used Murano. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent or address these issues, ensuring a more reliable and enjoyable driving experience.

- Summary: My sunroof exploded but I don't know why. There was no warning. Might have been a rock but I didn't see one. I had the sunroof closed but the fabric cover was open for light. I heard an explosive noise and then glass started raining in. I closed the fabric cover to keep the glass out of the passenger compartment. No real injuries other than a couple of glass shards being sharp. Mostly just got some skin irritation. Some areas on my car have scratched paint and plastic parts. I had my Nissan dealer look at it. They will clean up the glass and replace the sunroof for about $2000. I feel like it should be replaced for free as a warranty item. I also got an estimate from a collision shop for about $7500. There is scratched paint and plastic as well as the headliner certainly has glass in it. Their estimate was much more detailed. Filed an insurance claim today, so hope to have it all fixed up soon.

Nissan is recalling more than 56,000 cars because of power-steering hoses that may leak fluid and potentially lead to fires. Nissan North America said the recall affects the 2013-2014 Murano vehicles. The problem stems from the power-steering hose clamp, which may not adequately secure the hose. That could allow the hose to detach and leak power-steering fluid, the company said. Power-steering fluid leaking onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes could cause a fire, Nissan said.

I bought this car in May 2018 and I absolutely love it! The seats are incredibly comfortable and the ride is smooth. While the road noise could be quieter, it doesn't bother me too much. The backseats are very spacious and I can comfortably fit four more people with me. I take pride in keeping my car clean and smelling good!

Traded my GLE-350 SUV for a Murano and I must say, the Nissan handles and rides much better. The controls are also easier to operate, especially the navigation system. The Murano handles like a sports car and the ride is great. It also has plenty of room and costs thousands less than the GLE. In my opinion, Nissan wins again! I would give the Murano 5-stars plus.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 09 Nissan Murano. I absolutely love how comfortable it is and how well it handles. However, I have noticed that during the winter months, the rims tend to accumulate snow which can make the ride a bit rough. I understand that this is a common issue with most rims, but it seems to happen more frequently with mine. Additionally, I've had some trouble with my driver door freezing shut due to slush splashing up. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the seal or something else. Other than these minor issues, I really enjoy my Murano! By the way, do you happen to know where I can find stores that carry 235/55/20 tires? Thank you so much!

This is the second Murano I have owned. I'm so happy with it! I've driven other brands, but the looks and feel of the car surpasses them all. It's so luxurious! It easily rivals the much more expensive luxury cars. The interior is very comfortable and provides ample room, even for 3 adults in the back seat. The ride is smooth and easy to drive. I absolutely love my new Murano!

I received this car from my dad, who had used it in Florida and during Michigan summers. Although it has seen several winters and is about 15 years old, it has held up well as far as rusting, with only about 110,000 miles on it. While my dad was highly pleased with the car, my opinion is entirely different and I only drive it because my better Honda Odyssey got totaled by a teenager who failed to stop at a stop sign. In my opinion, the CVT transmission is not ideal for winter driving. Once a wheel breaks traction, the transmission shifts into higher gear ratios, making it difficult to re-establish traction. The windshield wipers are also a bit of a hassle. The passenger side wiper arm is about 3 feet long and parks into a closed pocket under the rear edge of the hood. Snow can get into the pocket and turn into hard ice, causing the wiper arm to slip on its shaft and park way high on the windshield. This design feature requires more care than any other car I have ever driven in the winter. Driving slower would actually make it happen sooner. Despite these issues, I am grateful to have a car to drive and appreciate my dad's generosity in passing it down to me.The car has some features that may not be ideal for winter driving. For example, the wiper arms are located under the hood, which makes it difficult to stand up the wiper arms/blades for any reason, such as to prevent them from freezing to the windshield, or to scrape frost/ice off the windshield, or to change wiper blades. Additionally, the windshield defroster can cause some issues, resulting in a windshield that is externally wet at the bottom (refreezing into hard ice) and internally fogged at the top. However, the car has some good features too, such as the rear hatch door that swings close over the bumper. The plastic bubble headlights on this car can get covered with ice and snow in winter, but with proper care, they can be kept clean without any scratches. The car does not have It seems like the braking system on this car needs improvement. There have been instances where one wheel hits an icy spot and the whole system gives up completely, making it difficult to stop the car. The transmission also needs some work as it cuts out suddenly at low speeds, leaving you in free-fall and putting you at risk of hitting another car's bumper. The door locks are also poorly designed and can easily lock you out of the car. Additionally, the radiator cap is difficult to remove. Lastly, I am not a fan of the cold-looking brushed stainless steel interior trim. On a positive note, the car offers a degree of engine braking which could be useful. However, there is room for improvement in terms of safety features such as a safety interlock to disconnect the cruise control and prevent the transmission from accidentally being knocked out of 'drive'.

I purchased this vehicle in 2004 and have been happy with its overall look and performance. While I did not prioritize gas mileage, my main concern was finding a safe vehicle for my wife. Unfortunately, the check engine light has remained on due to a bad catalytic converter, which was later repaired in subsequent models. This issue has caused the engine to burn oil due to particle blowback, and the only sensible repair option is a new engine. Additionally, the driver side seat panels and armrest have cracked and peeled apart, and during hot weather, the door locks tend to stick. However, I have found a workaround by holding the unlock button and letting the windows roll down to get in. Lastly, the gas tank door opener has stopped working, but I have disconnected it from the system instead of paying $300 for the part. Despite these issues, I am looking forward to parting with this vehicle.

This car does not seem to hold up well over time. I have noticed some creaks and misfits that are usually associated with higher mileage, but have appeared at only 25k. I am concerned about the long-term reliability of this car. Additionally, the passenger seat has come loose and the front end suspension system is quite noisy. The engine does not appear to be holding up to normal wear and tear, as it is using oil and the mileage is decreasing.

The design of the Murano's hood, with its 3 inch incline by the windshield, is a bit of a miss. When the sun is overhead, it reflects right into your eyes and face. Additionally, the slimmed down design affects the car's visibility. The most annoying issue with my Murano is the frontal impact avoidance warning system. It keeps beeping and saying that it is unavailable, then after a few minutes, it becomes available. However, after waiting for 10 minutes or so, it beeps again and becomes unavailable. I hear this thing beep constantly every 5 to 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the dealer couldn't fix the problem either.
