Nissan Murano problems

The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano, a midsize SUV produced by Nissan, has been praised for its attractive design and impressive lighting elements. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of issues. Here are three of the most common problems reported by Nissan Murano owners:
- Failing engine mounts causing thumping in the floor: More than 180 Nissan Murano owners have reported this issue, which typically arises around 96,000 miles. The sound comes from the engine moving too much, indicating that the engine mounts have failed and need to be replaced.
- Damaged seat adjuster assembly causing noise/rocking movement: Over 140 Nissan Murano owners have reported this problem, which generally appears after 84,000 miles. The damaged seat adjuster assembly can cause the seat to rock back and forth, squeak, or stop adjusting forward, backward, up, or down.
- Air intake tube on the air cleaner box becoming loose: Nearly 40 Nissan Murano owners have reported this issue, which typically arises around 84,000 miles. This problem is related to a recall for 2003 to 2007 models of the Murano, where the air cleaner box or tube can come loose. If your Murano falls within this model year range and has this issue, the repair should be covered by Nissan.
These issues can affect the reliability and overall satisfaction of Nissan Murano owners. It is essential to consider these common problems when considering purchasing a used Murano. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent or address these issues, ensuring a more reliable and enjoyable driving experience.

- Summary: My sunroof exploded but I don't know why. There was no warning. Might have been a rock but I didn't see one. I had the sunroof closed but the fabric cover was open for light. I heard an explosive noise and then glass started raining in. I closed the fabric cover to keep the glass out of the passenger compartment. No real injuries other than a couple of glass shards being sharp. Mostly just got some skin irritation. Some areas on my car have scratched paint and plastic parts. I had my Nissan dealer look at it. They will clean up the glass and replace the sunroof for about $2000. I feel like it should be replaced for free as a warranty item. I also got an estimate from a collision shop for about $7500. There is scratched paint and plastic as well as the headliner certainly has glass in it. Their estimate was much more detailed. Filed an insurance claim today, so hope to have it all fixed up soon.

Nissan is recalling more than 56,000 cars because of power-steering hoses that may leak fluid and potentially lead to fires. Nissan North America said the recall affects the 2013-2014 Murano vehicles. The problem stems from the power-steering hose clamp, which may not adequately secure the hose. That could allow the hose to detach and leak power-steering fluid, the company said. Power-steering fluid leaking onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes could cause a fire, Nissan said.

Vehicle year: 2017
Overall, the 2017 Murano is a very good car. If you plan on towing something, you may want to consider another car. However, what sets the Murano apart is its exceptional comfort. I recently went on a 3,000 mile vacation trip and, for the first time that I can remember, I did not experience any back pain. The driver's seat is just short of amazing. Although I did not get the expected mpg on my trip (23.9 overall, and 25 or less on the highway alone), I was driving at high speeds (70-80 mph) mostly through hills and mountains, so I should not have expected much more. There are a couple of minor issues with my car, such as slightly misaligned driver side doors and a tiny blemish on the paint of the driver's side back door by the door handle. I opted for pearl white, which looks very good but requires more frequent washing due to its visibility. In hindsight, I would have chosen a darker color. As of 9/14/2018, my Murano has just over 15k miles. During my recent vacation in Colorado/Utah, I drove over 3200 miles with an average MPG of 26.3 on the highway. The Murano performed well in the mountains, with no complaints about lack of power. However, the flies and dirt on the white finish were unsightly, and I found it very time-consuming to clean the front of the car after returning home. My biggest regret is still choosing the white color for my Murano. I also encountered a problem with the lift gate on 12/24/2018, as the top driver side edge was rubbing right below the roof line and stripped all the paint on that edge, creating a bare-metal spot of about 4 inches long and 1.5 inches high. Other than these minor issues, everything else is okay.First, the dealer sent me to a Nissan authorized body shop to get an estimate. However, I did not receive any follow-up for over a week, so I decided to reach out. After some back and forth, the service manager informed me that this type of problem falls under the adjustments category, and since my car is over 12 months old, it is out of warranty. Although I was disappointed, the service manager suggested that I file a complaint with Nissan, which I did. Unfortunately, after a month and a half, I received the same response (out of warranty for this type of problem). The estimate from the body shop was $1109.64, and I am responsible for the cost. I also reported an issue with my Murano's CVT at the dealership. When driving straight after making a sharp turn, the RPM would go as high as 5000-6000, but the speed would increase very slowly (CVT would not switch to a different ratio). The dealer checked for fault codes, but since there were none, they were unable to do anything. Although I asked them to take a ride with me to demonstrate the problem, they refused, stating that they would not know what to do without a fault code. I found a similar problem reported on the NHTSA website (No.11084328) and filed a complaint about this issue today (No. 11163287). Due to the problems I have experienced with my 2017 Murano and the way I was treated by Nissan, I must say that I am very disappointed and regret purchasing this particular vehicle. As a result, I have lowered my initial ratings for this car. On a positive note, I recently took a long road trip (over 4000 miles) and had a comfortable and quiet ride with a slightly over 24 GPA, with only two people. So far, I have not experienced any other problems besides those mentioned before. Although the CVT performance sometimes makes me feel somewhat unsafe, I am overall satisfied with my vehicle.Looking back at the purchase, I would consider buying a different car due to the issues I experienced with the CVT and tailgate. However, I have not had any other problems with the car besides waiting for a recall notice. I appreciate the regular maintenance and have gotten used to the CVT issue. I did not receive a recall notice for the brake fluid problem, but I do wish that the CVT had a fluid level stick for easier maintenance. Despite some side-to-side movement on curves at highway speeds, I still find the overall comfort of the car to be great. I have driven over 73k miles and have not experienced any additional problems.

I bought the Murano because I needed better traction in the snow than my 97 Maxima could provide. So far, the car has been great. Although the fuel economy is not stellar, it's not even to EPA specs, but the Maxima never made it that high either. I have a few of the usual Nissan rattles here and there, but it's a Nissan, not Toyota, so no complaints here. However, the power port is inconveniently placed in the center console and on the passenger side, making it difficult to charge cell phones. Additionally, the rear hatch power port does not function unless the ignition is on ACC, which is another poor design choice.

The Murano is a fantastic mid-size SUV. I'm glad to hear that you haven't experienced any major issues with yours. It's great to know that it gets excellent gas mileage, making it an ideal family car.

Your car sounds amazing! It drives beautifully in any weather and is so comfortable to handle. The CVT is a great feature that requires no input from you, and the leather seats with great padding and lumbar support make for a luxurious ride. The back seat has plenty of room and there's enough cargo space for all your needs. It's impressive that you've been driving this car for 11 years and at 129,000 miles, it has had very few mechanical issues. I would definitely buy it again!

Vehicle year: 2020
I had the truck for about 18 months when someone decided to t-bone me at 60 mph. Luckily, I walked out with only 4 cracked ribs and that was only because my side hit the console. I am now buying a 2020 Murano to replace it. It drives like a car and I got 34.6 mpg on a 280 mile open road trip. Thank you Nissan!

This is a good car overall, but unfortunately, we experienced some issues with the transmission after 80,000 miles. We did some research before purchasing and were confident that Nissan had resolved their transmission problems, but unfortunately, this was not the case. It seems that this has been a recurring issue for Nissan for over a decade, and it's disappointing that they have not taken any action to address it. As someone who has been a loyal Nissan customer since 1991, I must say that I am hesitant to purchase another Nissan in the future. However, I do appreciate the comfort of the ride and the overall quality of the car.

I'll be brief. This vehicle is definitely fun to drive! Once you take it for a test drive, you'll want to buy it because it's such a blast to drive. However, it's important to note that the cost of maintenance can be quite high. You may end up spending a lot of time repairing this vehicle. After it's been repaired, it's best to only ride it if you're testing to see if the problems have been fixed or if you're taking a new buyer for a test drive. If you ignore my warning, you may fall in love with this vehicle all over again, like a woman you love despite her naughty behavior. Potential buyers should be aware and cautious, especially if they don't have deep pockets. Some issues I've experienced include wheel bearings (front right and back left) and differential problems.

A month after I got my car, the wires in the dash started making noises. Now, with 15,000 miles on the clock, the dash and door vibrate, and the center console scratches very easily. Despite these issues, the car is still great. Although I used to love it, I am now considering trading it in due to the noises.

Hi there! I have a 2003 Murano with 140,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, I've had a few big repairs in the past few years, including replacing the transfer case and catalytic converter, as well as the gas pump just a month ago. However, my current issue is with the transmission. Last summer, I noticed that after driving for about 20-30 minutes and then getting into traffic, the car would hesitate when I pressed on the gas. I took it to the dealer, but they weren't able to help since the problem doesn't happen all the time. Frustrating, right? Do you have any suggestions for what I can do next?

Vehicle year: 2004
I purchased my 2004 car brand new and have taken good care of it over the years. It has been through a lot, including at least 3 or 4 brake replacements and 3 sets of tires. Unfortunately, it is currently at the dealership after being towed there. The car needs some repairs, including motor mounts, a catalytic converter, front brakes, and a belt. The dealership is also saying there is a transmission leak, but I have not noticed any spots on the ground. They are recommending that I replace the engine and transmission, which would cost around $6,000 in parts and labor. However, I am hesitant to spend that much money on an older car. Recently, I had the CV joint on the driver's side replaced by an independent mechanic for $350, which was a fair price. While the dealership is suggesting that I junk the car and buy a new one, I am still considering my options. It's a bit scary dealing with the dealership, but I'm hopeful that I can find a solution that works for me.
