2007 Nissan Murano problems

The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common 2007 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano, introduced in 2003, is a popular SUV known for its unique design and powerful V6 engine:
- Suspension Problems: A significant number of complaints, around 13%, are about suspension issues. Drivers have reported significant corrosion eating through the shocks, leaving the SUV essentially sitting on the axle.
- Seating Problems: Seating complaints make up around one third of the total. There are reports of fractured seat brackets, leaving the front driver's seat rocking back and forth. Some drivers have also reported being shocked by the heater wiring in their seats.
- Engine and Powertrain Problems: There are 60 engine complaints and 62 powertrain complaints on file. Recurring themes include engine stall and shaking while in motion. This may be due to a recall for bad intake air ducts, which can leave the engine gasping for oxygen.
- Recall Issues: The Murano has only been recalled twice, but these recalls affected a significant number of vehicles. The first recall was for bad intake air ducts, which could cause engine stalling. The second recall was for faulty occupant sensors in the airbag system.
- Transmission Problems: Some drivers have reported issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT), which is the only transmission option for the Murano. These issues include engine stall and shaking while in motion.
These problems, while concerning, are not necessarily indicative of widespread issues with the 2007 Nissan Murano. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common complaints and consider them when making a purchasing decision. It's also recommended to have any used vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic before purchase to identify any potential issues.

SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-05
- VIN: JN8AZ08W37W
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I had noticed that my car would sway when driving around a curve or when switching lanes and was going to take it to the shop to be checked out, but my back passenger tire went flat on my way home from work which was odd because they were brand new tires. When I went to change the tire I noticed that the inside of the tire was completely worn and wires were sticking out. I drove home at 35-40mph because the sway was even worse with the spare tire. I had a mechanic come to my home to check the car out because I was afraid to drive it any further. When he jacked the car up to see what was going on, upon inspection he noticed the sway bar had come loose on the passenger and driver side of the car and that the sub frame on the driver side of the car was completely rusted through. The mechanic was able to reattach the sway bar, but advised not to drive it until the sub frame could be fixed. I contacted a certified welder and had my car towed to the welder to have the frame welded back together. The certified welder was only able to partially weld the frame and stated that the car would need the frame replaced because it was too rusted out to properly fix and that it was not safe to drive. Now I’m without a vehicle even though the car is in great running condition because the frame is unable to be fixed and the cost to buy a new frame and have the work done is more than the car kbb values the car for. I don’t know why this issue hasn’t been recalled and fixed. I could have crashed and died and my children left without a mother. It’s sad to see so many complaints and nothing done about it.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
- VIN: JN8AZ08W37W
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The frame of the car has had a catastrophic failure, the rear frame has broken away from the body of the car on both sides. This has caused the car to be completely unsafe and unable to be driven. The broken frame was discovered as I was doing basic maintenance on the car, putting new brakes on the rear of the car and checking low air in a tire. At that time I discovered the brand new tires on the back were worn to the core on the inside and then I saw that the frame itself had broken away from the body. I have done repairs and maintenance on my own vehicles for many years, so I am the one that discovered the broken frame not a dealer or repair shop.
STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-17
- VIN: JN8AZ08W07W
- Components: STEERING,SUSPENSION,WHEELS
- Summary: Driving to work in the rain the vehicle began to sway when breaks were applied. The back of the vehicle went right and the car went left. I moved to the right lane and the vehicle fishtailed! I was totally afraid that I could drive into a ditch or be killed on the highway. I drove very slowly to the repair shop, after inspection, I needed struts but then the mechanic looked further and saw that the rear k-subframe was completely corroded and unable to be welded. The one piece was completely apart from the other. A danger to drive. Once I began to look for a replacement part, I began to see how many other Murano owners have had the same issues with the subframe rusting out. This is absolutely crazy that this part is not recalled as the part is defective in the construction of it. Nissan should be ashamed. My life and my daughter's was at risk. There are no warning lights to advise of this problem prior to its failure.

- Summary: Have been driving Murano thinking only needed 4 wheel alignment. Rear wheels as I was told some time ago looked like to tow in I think you call it was off, leaning in. Took to garage, mechanic stated, k- frame completely rusted in half on both sides. Stabilizer bar just dangling. Stated it's a wonder I had not been killed. Said from the look I had been driving it for quite some time in this condition. Currently has 175k miles on it. I bought in 2019, had 161k on it then. Bought up north. Vehicle is in perfect shape otherwise. Now, I have nothing. He said possible I could have bought that way. I see many, many of these frames rusting through too early. Why would Nissan avoid this issue. I will put date discovered, but I believe date was years sooner as I only drive in local area.

This car is definitely worth your money! It's stylish and has plenty of power when you need it. Plus, it's great on the road.

This is my second review and I must say, I am absolutely thrilled with my 2006 Murano! I traded in my 2003 model for this one and I love it even more. The car is packed with safety features that go above and beyond what you would expect. For example, the engine is a break-away engine, there are 8-10 airbags, and the windows and sunroof won't shut if something like fingers, head, etc. is in the way. Plus, the backup camera and doors won't lock if the keys are in the car. The new smart key is also a great feature, especially when you have your hands full - the car will recognize you and you won't need keys to open the doors or start the car. All in all, this car is an incredible value for your money!
-
In 28 years of driving, I can't remember a more pleasurable driving experience! The comfort and smoothness are just great. The CVT is the transmission of the future! If you are considering cars in this segment, don't overlook the Murano. With all its features, I think it represents great value. This is my 4th Nissan and I have been very happy with all of them.

I've owned my Murano for about nine months and I have to say, I'm really happy with it! It's the S AWD version and while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, the performance is unbeatable in its class. I've seen a lot of people complain about the gas mileage, but I get a solid 28 to 29 mpg on the highway doing 60 to 65 mph. Of course, like any vehicle, it will decline significantly from 65 to 80. In town, I average about 18 to 20 mpg. The ride is very solid, but not uncomfortable at all. I've never had a maintenance issue with it, which is great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone! By the way, I'm pretty sure all models have reclining back seats - you just need to pull the tabs where the seat meets the back. I know mine does and I have a pretty basic model.

This is our second car, and when the lease is up next April, we will most likely lease another one. It is a good, solid car that performs well with no trouble. Since this is my wife's car, I expect it to be safe and easy to drive. Although we wish the gas mileage was better, we still love the car, and so does my wife.

This car can be quite challenging when it comes to basic maintenance. If you ever need to replace the spark plugs, be prepared for a bit of a task. It took me over 4 hours to replace just one plug, when it would normally take me half an hour at most. Accessing the rear components that require removal is difficult due to the lack of space. However, if you have a mechanic to do your basic maintenance, you should be fine. If not, you may want to consider other options. I miss my VW Rabbit, but I will update if I find any pros pertaining to this vehicle.

The car has an average fuel economy of 15 mpg and unfortunately, there have been numerous issues with the door locks failing. Most notably, the driver seat forward and reverse motor has been a common failure. This can be a costly repair, with owners having to shell out up to $1,800 to replace the whole assembly. However, I was able to fix the issue by testing each of the three motors and finding the forward/reverse motor to be defective. After cleaning the commutator and adjusting the brushes, the motor was operational again. It's worth noting that Nissan does not sell this motor as an OEM part and it's rare to find a used one for sale. This can be a big drawback for the Nissan Murano, as you never know when the seat will fail or the power locks, which can cost up to $1,200 to have the dealer repair. At Regal Nissan, we strive to provide the best possible service to our customers and we always aim to build a strong dealer-customer relationship. However, if you're looking for a reliable car, you may want to consider a Ford or Chevy. It's also worth noting that the master cylinder failed next, which cost $776 for the dealer to replace, but unfortunately, there were none in stock in Atlanta. Luckily, NAPA garage was able to replace it with an OEM part for $435. Next time, I plan to hone it with a tool from Pep Boys and use a kit to rebuild it. If you're experiencing issues with your Nissan, you're not alone. Many frustrated owners have shared their experiences online, with some even promising to never own another Nissan. This car was great for the first 5 years. However, at 73,000 miles, some very expensive and unwarranted repairs became necessary. The driver's seat frame cracked, which necessitated replacement that cost $1300. Additionally, the high-pressure power steering line also went, which was a $600 repair. The transfer case associated with the CVT transmission is seeping and requires a rebuild that will cost over $2500. Unfortunately, my Nissan service manager told me that Nissan is fully aware of each of these issues and has published service bulletins because of the high failure rate. However, Nissan would not reimburse me for these repairs. It's worth noting that the extended warranty on the CVC does not cover the transfer case.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Murano after owning it for 3 years. My Mo is still factory spec with no aftermarket upgrades, but I have to say that the 06/07 models are truly the best years. The significant styling changes to the exterior and interior in 05 really boost the class and elegance of the car. Plus, the 06/07 models benefited from increased sound deadening and are free of most early glitches. Even after test driving newer cars, I still believe that the 1G Murano stacks up well against modern competitors, which is a testament to Nissan's forward thinking and sound design back in 03. The only modern amenities missing are Bluetooth and Aux/iPod interfaces, but that's not a big deal for me. Overall, the Murano strikes a great balance between sport, practicality, and comfort, and I plan to keep my Mo around for a while. Thanks for listening!

I chose the Nissan Murano after conducting extensive research due to its advertised MPG, utility, and amenities. With 45K miles on it, I have only needed to perform scheduled maintenance and have experienced no issues whatsoever. The Goodyear tires are still the original ones and have about 5K miles left on them. For those who enjoy weekend skiing, the AWD works well in the snow and on wet surfaces. Additionally, the seats are quite comfortable on long drives. Although the gas mileage was initially poor at 17 MPG, I now regularly achieve 21-22 MPG in mixed driving. Despite the CVT transmission, which can be a bit of a fun-zapper, the car is fairly quick. My only complaint is that the paint chips a bit too much for my taste.
