2013 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-31
- VIN: JN8AZ1MU5DW
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: The air bag light started blinking. We took the car to our local Nisan dealership. We had to pay $220.77 just to have them look at it. They said there was an occupant sensor unit malfunction and it needed the bottom seat pad replaced. We were then told “that it is discontinued “! We are left with an air bag that doesn’t work, and a blinking air bag warning sign that constantly reminds us of the danger we are in. I am frightened to death to drive the car and angry that it cost $220.77 for nothing. When I asked what I could do - they said “You can trade it in and buy a new Nisan”! We will never buy another Nisan!! Can you help?

THEN IN 2020, VEHICLE SEIZED AT THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, BUT AFTER 5 MINS IT GOT STARTED TO DRIVE ABOUT .3 MILE. AFTER THAT VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO START, AFTER SENDING TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS TRANSFER SEAL LEAKING PROBLEM. MY MURANO SEEMS TO HAVE A GENERIC POWERTRAIN PROBLEM. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN MURANO CONSUMER AFFAIR, NO HELP THIS TIME. THEY HELP TO REPLACE THE TRANSIMISSION 2 TIMES THOUGH. NOT SURE IF THE TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED DURING TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT OR IT IS A MANUFACTURING FAULT.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-08-03
- VIN: JN8AZ1MWXDW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: ON AUGUST 3, 2019 MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2013 MURANO ON A TWO-LANE STATE HIGHWAY (COLORADO 133) BETWEEN REDSTONE AND MARBLE WHEN WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING, LEAVING THE ENGINE RUNNING NORMALLY. IT WAS LIKE THE CAR SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. WE WERE THEN COASTING ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE WE LOOKED FOR A SAFE PLACE TO STOP ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY THE CAR FOLLOWING US WAS NOT TOO CLOSE TO BE ENDANGERED BY OUR LOWER SPEED. THIS WAS A DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE ODOMETER READ 87,861 MILES. WE HAD OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS AT THAT POINT AND HAD DRIVEN IT IN A NORMAL FASHION. WE HAD NOT TOWED ANYTHING NOR DRIVEN OFF ROAD OR EXPOSED THE CAR TO ANY HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS. ULTIMATELY THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER, LOCATED IN GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO, 121 MILES AWAY, TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. AT THAT TIME WE LEARNED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS THE CVT MODEL USING BELTS AND NOT GEARS. THE DEALER TOLD US THE BELTS HAD SHREDDED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. THE NORMAL 50,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD PASSED, SO WE WERE FACED WITH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, APPROXIMATELY $4,000. WE THINK THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE WHEN WE HEAR OF CARS GOING INTO THE UPPER 100,000'S AND EVEN 200,000 MILES ON THE SAME TRANSMISSION. WE ALSO LEARNED THAT NISSAN HAD PROBLEMS WITH EARLIER CVT-EQUIPPED CARS AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 100,000 MILES, BUT THE 2013 MODEL YEAR HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH FAILURES TO JUSTIFY INCREASING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. BASICALLY, WE THINK 87,861 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THE LIFE OF A TRANSMISSION. WE HOPE NISSAN WILL COMPENSATE US FOR OUR EXPENSES.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-11-29
- VIN: JN8AZ1MWXDW
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING WITH FAMILY ON A RESIDENTIAL ROAD, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY STIFF. I QUICKLY CHECKED DASHBOARD INDICATORS AND EVERYTHING LOOK OKAY AND ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I PULLED INTO GAS STATION, POPPED HOOD AND NOTICED STEERING FLUID WAS VERY LOW. I BUY A BOTTLE AT THE GAS STATION, PUT A LITTLE IN THE RESERVOIR AND MOVED AROUND THE GAS STATION LOT. STEERING FELT NOMINALLY BETTER. I CHECKED THE STEERING FLUID AND RESERVOIR WAS LOW AGAIN. I THEN CALLED A FEW NISSAN DEALERS AND FOUND ONE THAT COULD LOOK AT IT THE VERY NEXT DAY. I PUT MORE FLUID IN AND HAD A RELATIVE FOLLOW ME TO DROP IT OFF. THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE HAD A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 17V184000 IN 2017 FOR THE POWER STEERING HIGH PRESSURE HOSE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE RECALL BACK THEN. I WAS CONCERNED THAT MAY BE A ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE HERE WAS THE POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE HAD A PLASTIC CLIP THAT FAILED. THE FAILURE CAUSED THAT HOSE TO RUB AGAINST THE DRIVE SHAFT WHICH CAUSED A HOLE TO BE WORN THROUGH THE HOSE AND CAUSING THE FAILURE. ALL OF THIS IS STATED IN THE ATTACH REPAIR ORDER FROM THE DEALER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK AND I WANT TO ENSURE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE DOESN'T OCCUR TO OTHER DRIVERS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND WAS CURRENTLY OCCURRING FREQUENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,800.

- VIN: JN8AZ1MW2DW
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I HAD MY 2013 NISSAN MURANO REPAIRED FOLLOWING A RECALL INVOLVING THE POWER STEERING. THE WORK WAS COMPLETED ON 2/2/18. ON 4/11/2019 I COMPLETELY LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING HOME. THANKFULLY I WAS ON NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS AND NOT THE INTERSTATE. BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR AND THERE WERE TWO LARGE PUDDLES OF FLUID UNDER THE FRONT END. AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED THE MECHANIC STATED THE CLAMP HAD APPARENTLY COME LOOSE AND RUBBED SEVERAL HOLES IN THE HOSE AND TUBE ASSEMBLY. The Murano is a go-getter type of vehicle that you can depend on. You'll find that the engine will outlast the body!

We really appreciate our 2012 Nissan Murano, but unfortunately, we're having some trouble with the liftgate. We took it to a Nissan dealer today, but even after 3 hours, they couldn't get it open. It seems like we're stuck with a liftgate that just won't lift.

As your kids grow up, it's natural to start thinking about replacing your old car. When I was in the same situation with my 8-year-old 2-door Solara convertible, I looked at both the Toyota Venza and Nissan Murano. While they were very similar in terms of major specs, the Murano's luxurious interior really stood out to me. I ended up getting the LE with the Platinum package, and I have to say, I'm really happy with my choice. While it's not quite as fun to drive as a 2-door sports car, it handles highways and local roads with ease when it comes to acceleration, cruising, and stopping. Plus, it feels incredibly solid and stable, even when trucks are whizzing by. My kids absolutely love all the extra room, and the well-placed rear vents are a nice touch. My husband is also a big fan of all the extra features and gadgets that come with the car!

Seven years and almost 92000 miles later, the car is still running well with fairly low maintenance costs. Although the driver's seat is not the most comfortable on long trips, it's a minor issue. The only annoyance is the road noise at interstate speeds. I stopped going to the dealership a while ago because their bottom line always came first, not the customer's satisfaction. I tried to contact the new owner of the dealership to give feedback on my experiences, but unfortunately, the manager never returned my email. Overall, I am very satisfied with the car.

I can understand why you were excited about this car, but it seems like the limited visibility out of the rear window and lack of leg room for backseat passengers were major drawbacks. It's a shame because it's a pretty car, but safety should always come first.
Zackary Parisian 2024-07-13
I'm not a fan of the driver's seat. Even after 2 years, it still bothers me. The leather seats cut into the back of my right leg. On a long road trip, my passengers complained that the back seats were uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I've had some repairs done, and today I found out that the control arm and tie rods need to be replaced at only 70,000 miles. The total cost is $1400.00, including some other regular maintenance that needs to be done. I think I'll put that money towards a deposit on another vehicle. I'm just tired of dealing with a numb right leg.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you've had a couple of issues with your Muranos in the past, but I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your 2013 Platinum model. It sounds like it's a great fit for you, especially with its comfortable interior and powerful engine. I understand that the gas mileage can be a bit of a downside, but it's great that you're considering other options like the Infiniti QX50. Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can help you with!
Oral Keeling 2024-05-06
We appreciate the effort put into the leather seats, however, we found them to be stiff and not as comfortable as those in other vehicles such as Volvo, BMW, VW or Lexus. The cabin was quite noisy, especially on the highway, which was disappointing. Additionally, the rear view was compromised and seemed dangerous. The exterior design sacrificed size for a sleek look, making it more difficult to park and maneuver than it should be. We also found the navigation to be not very user-friendly. Unfortunately, the dealership did not provide accurate information about the pricing incentives, which led us to decide on this vehicle prematurely. Lastly, the MPG was disappointing. Given these factors, we would not consider purchasing this vehicle again.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to let you know that after 8 years, it's important to replace the exhaust pipe going into the resonator. Unfortunately, the pipe has a design flaw that causes it to store water and rust, which can destroy the exhaust pipe. I would recommend avoiding purchasing vehicles with this design flaw to prevent premature wear and tear. Let me know if you have any questions!
