2010 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common 2010 Nissan Murano problems
The 2010 Nissan Murano has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to powertrain issues, engine problems, and electrical systems problems.
Powertrain issues are a significant concern for 2010 Nissan Murano owners. The on-demand all-wheel-drive system, which operates as a front-wheel-drive vehicle most of the time, can cause clunking noises under load due to a coupling problem that engages the rear axle when required. This system may not suit everyone's needs, and potential buyers should consider whether they expect front-wheel or all-wheel drive from their vehicle.
Engine problems are another area of concern for 2010 Nissan Murano owners. The V6 engine, while generally reliable, can experience issues with the continuously variable transmission (CVT) known for having shorter lifespans than conventional gearboxes. It is essential to inspect the CVT before purchasing a used 2010 Nissan Murano, as it might need to be replaced if it has done a lot of kilometers.
Electrical systems problems are also prevalent in the 2010 Nissan Murano. The CVT transmission, in particular, can be troublesome, with failures being quite common. If the transmission is not assessed by an expert mechanic before purchasing a used Murano with high mileage, it could lead to significant repair costs.
In summary, the 2010 Nissan Murano has common problems related to powertrain issues, engine problems, and electrical systems problems. Potential buyers should be aware of these issues and ensure that the vehicle has been adequately maintained, with a solid service record, before making a purchase decision.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-30
- VIN: JN8AZ1MU3AW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission is failing and I recently found out there had been a recall on the CVT transmission and I would like to get it fixed by the company.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-02
- VIN: JN8AZ1MU1AW
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Vehicle jerked and drove erratically. Would slowly stall and would not move while accelerating
SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-04
- VIN: JN8AZ1MW9AW
- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I began hearing a rattling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. I believed it was possibly the suspension, as the vehicle would also bounce more often than expected when going over any irregularities in the road (potholes, speed bumps, normal wear on roads, etc). I brought it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, and they found no issues. I had previously replaced all 4 tires and brakes before hearing this sound, and nothing was brought to my attention then, either. The noise continued, and I brought the vehicle to another mechanic, where the damage was found immediately. The frame had corroded to the point where the mechanic advised me to not even drive home, rather have the vehicle towed to the dealership to be assessed and checked for a recall. Multiple incidents similar to mine have been found - all starting after 100k miles - but none have resulted in an official recall notice.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-01
- VIN: JN8AZ1MW0AW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My 2010 Nissan Murano incurred transmission and transfer case failure @ around approximately 95,000 miles despite keeping up with the required maintenance. This was in a form of erratic jerking, overheating, and decreased pick up speeds. However, the vehicle did not have any service lights indicating further issues on the dash. I then went to 2 Nissan service centers to request that Nissan fix their faulty parts on 11/11/22 and 12/02/22. Both Service Centers acknowledge faulty parts by Nissan, but refused stating that my car is not under warranty and therefore, Nissan would not cover the cost. Nissan has had multiple class action law suits regarding their production of these parts and yet is evading responsibility. Since then, my car has sat in my driveway undriveable as Nissan continues to avoid rectifying the situation. I now owe the bank almost $3,000 for a car I can no longer drive and bank will not settle out the debt to the worth of the car. I now have to consider a voluntary repo which will ultimately negatively affect my credit and force me into a hardship. I cannot utilize this vehicle to go back and forth to work.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-18
- VIN: JN8AZ1MU1AW
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: While driving 70+ mph on a federal highway at night, I heard a loud explosion noise followed by glass raining into my vehicle cabin. (The shade was open.) We quickly closed the shade which caused a few more shards of glass to fall into the car. The noise caused by air vibrating the sunroof shade was nearly deafening but we were two hours drive away from home and decided to continue driving praying that no one would toss a cigarette butt or anything similar out of their car where it might land on our now-exposed roof. It wasn’t until we were able to exit to a gas station that we could see the extent of the damage and take photos.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: JN8AZ1MWXAW

I called Nissan to let them know what had happened with the dash cracking and the airbag warning, and that this was a safety issue that has occurred through no fault of mine. They told me that there was no recall on the car and I was responsible. The dash should not just crack ! And If the airbag system is compromised due to this cracking I feel Nissan should be responsible to make the necessary repairs! The car has less than 60,000 miles on it and is under a roof when not being driven.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-04
- VIN: JN8AZ1MU7AW
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: When stepping on the gas after stopping at a stop light or similar situation, the car acts like it's stalling for 2 - 3 seconds before finally going forward. It's intermittent. I've been told by the Nissan dealership that when they did the diagnostic check, that the error code P0868 came up long enough to be caught for the report but did not stop at that error code. This error code says it's "Fluid pressure low". My Nissan advisor said that it is not a hard failure because it did not stop at this error. However, they do recommend that the transmission be replaced. I have been reading a lot online about other Murano owners having this similar issue or an issue with their transmission. I had it at the dealership twice before this last result I mentioned above.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-16
- Crash: 1
- VIN: JN8AZ1MW1AW
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My car’s ABS failed to turn on even when braking from a far enough distance in the snow and caused me to rear end a car at 5 mph. I was holding down the brakes from 20 cars away and it felt like my brakes were unresponsive and all the way to the floor as my car continued sliding. Nissan’s voluntary recall was performed of flushing out the brake fluid and replacing it with the DOT 4 and it still failed as a working remedy for its defective ABS from what I have read from other owners. I love my car but might have to sell due to feeling unsafe driving in the snow. Please fix this Nissan before another accident occurs due to your defective ABS.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-01
- VIN: JN8AZ1MW3AW
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: Noticed a rattle in right rear of vehicle. Upon further investigation the k frame is rotted into two pieces where a body mount travels thur the structure steel frame. The corrosion is vast on this steel frame. There have been other complaints on various years same models. This is a very dangerous thing to break during driving because the entire wheel support connects to the corroded frame member. I have read on the internet that this is a issue with the k frame. The vehicle is well cared for and this repair is something I think should be a safety recall.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-06
- VIN: JN8AZ1MW2AW
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: After multiple repairs the brake light and battery light continue to come on. My vehicle turned off while driving. I believe it's a faulty voltage regulator for the alternator. This seems to be a common issue for my type vehicle.

I'm so glad to hear that you're considering a change after enjoying your H2 Hummer for 6 years! The Murano seems like a great choice, especially with its car-like driving experience. I think your choice of Black on Black is a great one, and it's great to hear that you don't mind the 18 miles per gallon in the city. It sounds like this car will be a keeper for a long time! The 2010 LE front wheel drive seems like a great fit for you, and I'm happy to hear that you're satisfied with your purchase. It's great to know that you were able to save 15 grand compared to the Lexus or Infinity. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share with you our recent experience of car shopping. After looking at multiple vehicles from different manufacturers, my wife and I narrowed our list down to the Nissan Murano SL and the Honda CR-V EX-L. We took both vehicles for a final test drive on the same day and the Nissan Murano was the clear winner! It had superior comfort, better ride quality, more trunk and interior space, and more features for the money. We've been driving it for 2500 miles now and we absolutely love it! We've been getting great gas mileage too, averaging 21 to 23 MPG using midgrade and premium gas. The CVT transmission is amazing and we're even considering replacing our other vehicle, which has a six-speed auto, with one that has a CVT transmission. Thanks for reading!

I'm so glad I went to Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda and Audi, but I absolutely fell in love with the Murano. Although it may be a bit more expensive to run than my previous Nissan X-Trail, the quality and performance make it well worth it. If you don't need a hardcore offroader, then the Murano is an excellent choice.

I drove many popular luxury vehicles and this car finished number one on my list. It's a great choice among any luxury vehicle.

While the vehicle may be visually appealing, it's important to consider the comfort of the seats. Unfortunately, the seats are quite hard and may create discomfort, especially for shorter individuals like my wife and myself who are under 5'6

P1778 - Step Motor Function is a known Transmission issue from Nissan. Despite this, Nissan did not issue any recalls up to 2011. As a result, I regret purchasing a Nissan and will not be doing so again. I reached out to Mcgrath Lexus in Westmont, but unfortunately, they did not follow up with me as promised. This experience has taught me that buying from a well-known dealer does not necessarily guarantee a hassle-free experience. However, I remain confident in my ability to make informed decisions when it comes to purchasing a vehicle.

The car has some great features, such as the rear seats that recline and the smooth car-like ride. However, the seats could be more comfortable and have more adjustments. Additionally, the rear cargo area could be improved as it currently has a cheap piece of carpeted plywood covering the spare tire. While I used the AWD feature last night for the first time and it stayed engaged even at 40/45 mph, I may not entirely understand how it works. Overall, it's a nice vehicle with some room for improvement.
