The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.

  • Summary: While driving down the highway with my infant child the vehicle lost power I could not accelerate went from 75mph to a struggling 5mph. No matter how far I pressed the gas pedal there was no acceleration no revving of engine just complete nothing just pure panic. I was able to pull off to the side of the freeway in a not so safe place however I had no choice. I out hazard lights on and turned off the car. After waiting approx 5 min. I attempted to start car to no avail. The battery light as well as abs light stayed on. I again waited for another 5 -10 min and tried again nothing but same warning lights. I eventually had to wait for approx 45-_60 min when it finally started however I was only allowed to go no fastethan 5 mph. I was able to exit freeway where I parked car for several hours and walked home. Upon retrieving vehicle it still had same results. I drove home @ 5mph. I took car in for repairs and was told I needed a new battery wiring harness. I had that ordered a d repaired. Car drove home just fine however the following day the same incident occurred. Took car back in and was told I needed a new alternator which I replaced. However the following day the same thing occurred. Upon driving car back to a major dealership to notify them of the same problem, however once in their parking lot the mechanic attempted to drive car into the service bay and car wouldn't start. Immediately the mechanic said " oh you hear that clicking sound?" " That's the starter you need a new one". I once again had them service my car and put in a new starter.Yet once again the following day the same problem. In all these occurrences the car had just out of no where with no warning lost power leaving my children and I in a potentially dangerous situation multiple times. The vehicle has been parked in my garage. I can't afford replacing parts just to have the same incident. As far as dates go there were multiple dates that the vehicle stalled on me and had no acceleration.

THE VEHICLE IS USED PRIMARILY TO DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK ON PAVED HIGHWAYS. WHEN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE FURTHER, I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE MULTIPLE OTHER OWNERS OF FIRST GENERATION NISSAN MURANOS WHO EXPERIENCED SIMILAR ISSUES, INCLUDING ONE WHOSE FRAME ACTUALLY BROKE IN HALF WHILE DRIVING (THANKFULLY THAT DID NOT HAPPEN IN OUR CASE). AS SUCH, I FEEL THIS ISSUE IS PRESENTS A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK TO THE DRIVER, PASSENGERS AND OTHER MOTORISTS. THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS, WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERMEDIATE RESONATOR IN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM OF THE ENGINE, MAY SEPARATE FROM THE RESONATOR WITH ENGINE MOVEMENT. THIS SEPARATION OCCURS DUE TO THE PREMATURE AGING OF THE MATERIAL USED IN THE INTAKE AIR DUCTS WHICH CAUSES EXCESSIVE SHRINKING.
  • Consequence: ENGINE MAY STALL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

    My wife insisted on this car, so she bought it. Unfortunately, we will be trading it in due to too many squeaks. I'm not a fan of the design, as it looks like a raised up P/T Cruiser. It seems too expensive when you can get a better Acura MDX. The buttons under the console are a bit inconvenient. We already have a small scratch on the aluminum trim. The engine has a truck-like vibration, which is not as refined as Lexus, Acura, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW.

    We purchased a used 2003 Murano with the expectation that it would be problem-free. Unfortunately, less than a month after buying it (at 74K miles), we experienced issues with the accelerator stalling for 3-5 seconds. After conducting some research, we discovered that the transmission was failing. Despite being under warranty, Murdock Hyundai was unwilling to work with us to either provide an equal trade or repair the transmission. While the Murano may look cool and sporty, we found that the entire car is prone to breaking down prematurely. Even minor bumps in the road can cause the steering wheel to feel loose and the tires to feel like they are popping. Overall, we had a very negative experience with this car and would not recommend it to anyone.

    I would not recommend purchasing a 2003 Murano. My personal experience with this vehicle was terrible. Despite the previous owner taking good care of it and completing all regular maintenance, I had to take out towing on my insurance because the car was so unreliable. It left me stranded 8 out of 10 times, even on short trips. Unfortunately, I had to deal with multiple issues such as the fuel pump, transmission, CO2 sensor, and catalytic converter. I gave the car away because I did not want anyone else to experience the same problems. I suggest doing thorough research and reading reviews before making a purchase. On a positive note, I had a Nissan Altima before the Murano and it was the best car I ever had. It had over 300k miles and still drove like a champ. Perhaps Nissan has improved the Murano over the years, but I would not risk it. I recommend considering a Toyota instead.

    Hello! I recently hit a milestone of 89750 miles on my Murano, but unfortunately, the transmission has gone bad. It turns out that this is a common issue with this year and the 2004 models, yet the factory has not acknowledged it. The cost to fix it is over $5000, which is quite a lot. I believe that Nissan should take responsibility and address this issue for the sake of their customers. I have decided to join a class action lawsuit against Nissan for this defective transmission, specifically the pressure sensor unit. It's a serious safety concern as it could potentially cause accidents. For instance, you could be pulling out into traffic and the car won't move for 10-15 seconds. I hope Nissan will take this matter seriously and take appropriate action to prevent any accidents from happening.

    Our Murano has been operating in a very harsh environment in Minnesota and it just keeps running perfectly. Maintenance is easy and I put new brake pads on at 60k miles. The finish is holding up very well, considering it has had contact with tree branches. Compared to my friend's Lexus, it rides better and we love the CVT. I will definitely buy one again unless they make changes that detract from its current performance. Oh, and I almost forgot, my wife hit it in a parking lot on the left rear and the bumper was damaged. But, I was able to pull it out by hand and it popped back into shape with only minor scratches. I'll fix that problem in the spring. Overall, we feel very good about our Murano and I think it's refined enough for almost anyone's taste.

Its transmission is unique in that it doesn't have gears, which means it always selects the best ratio for any situation, whether you're climbing a hill, passing, or cruising. The new 3.5 engines are the best ever built, made entirely of aluminum and designed to last 100,000 miles (excluding fluids). Nissan uses the 3.5 engine in all their vehicles and tunes them accordingly. That's why the 350Z has over 280HP! The Murano's engine can make the same power, but it's detuned, which means it's running in a mild state of tune and not stressed, so it will run forever.

    We checked every comparable SUV, including the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Lexus RX330, and Acura MDX. In our opinion, the Murano provides the best value and performance for the money. We get stares and questions about it everywhere we go. The performance has been great, and the wet-weather handling is outstanding! We can't wait for winter to see if this continues. We have no complaints about the fit/finish, and our dealership experience at Classic Nissan has been outstanding too. If you're in the market for an SUV, do yourself a favor and check out the Murano.

    Hi there! I had an issue with my check engine light coming on shortly after purchasing my vehicle. I took it back to the dealership to have it checked, along with an oil change and tire rotation since it had around 5500 miles on it. They found that the gas cap wasn't put on correctly, which was a relief! However, I was surprised to be charged $72 for the check on my new vehicle. Unfortunately, the light has continued to come on and when I brought it back, I was told that I would have to pay for another check if there wasn't a mechanical issue. I decided not to pay for another check, so my light is still coming on. Any advice on what I should do next? Thank you!
