2006 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common 2006 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano is a popular SUV crossover, but it has had some issues over the years. The 2006 Nissan Murano, in particular, has had several common problems reported by owners.
One of the most common problems with the 2006 Nissan Murano is related to the transmission. Many owners have reported sluggish response in traffic, which detracts from an otherwise enjoyable driving experience. This is due to the continuously variable transmission (CVT) that the Murano uses, which operates differently than traditional automatic transmissions. The CVT can be slower from the start and gradually change gear ratios without shifts, which can take some getting used to.
Another issue with the 2006 Nissan Murano is related to the suspension. The SE model of the Murano includes a sport-tuned suspension with firmer front and rear springs, which can make the ride harsh. This can be a problem for those who are looking for a smooth and comfortable ride.
The Murano also lacks a third-row seat, which can be a problem for those who need to transport more than five people. This is a common issue with many SUV crossovers, but it is worth noting for those who need the extra seating.
In addition to these issues, the 2006 Nissan Murano has also had several recalls. These recalls include issues with the alternator, airbags, fuel system, and service brakes. It is important to check if any recalls apply to your car and have them fixed as soon as possible.
The 2006 Nissan Murano also has several common problems that are not specific to that year. These include issues with the engine mounts, brakes, and transmission. The engine mounts can cause excessive engine movement, leading to abnormal vibrations and potential damage to surrounding components. The brakes can have issues with the pedal feeling too soft or too stiff, which can be a safety concern. The transmission can have issues with hard jerking and difficulty accelerating, which can be a major problem for drivers.
Overall, the 2006 Nissan Murano is a popular SUV crossover, but it has had several common problems reported by owners. These issues include transmission problems, harsh suspension, and the lack of a third-row seat. It is important to be aware of these issues and have them addressed if they occur. Regular maintenance and inspections can also help prevent these problems from occurring in the first place.
Is Nissan Murano 2006 a good car?
The Murano scored very well in our tests and is a competitive model in the crowded SUV market. We like its powerful engine, nimble handling, strong brakes, comfortable rear seats and relatively good fuel economy. However, a stiff ride, limited rearward visibility and its use of premium fuel are notable drawbacks.

- Summary: I was driving from a funeral on Saturday July, 30th. 2022. The Car Has Been Fine, & Shown No Leading Hints Of Error. I Did Have A Spare Tire On In Which It Had No Problems Either. After The Funeral I Was Notified My Tire Was Ready, So I Headed Over To Get It Changed. After About 10/15 Mins Of Driving (Taking My Daughter To Work) The Car Started To Pull, & Make A Screeching/Loud Noise. At First I Thought Maybe It Was The Brake Pads, Or Tire Rubbing. After Calling My Dad (A Mechanic), & Talking With Others. Searching Online As Well. It Was Said To Be The Transmission. Few Moments Went By Then It Was The Transfer Case, Axel, Then Finally An Electrical Issue. My All Wheel Drive Light Constantly Flashes. I Have No Control Over The Off/On Module. Anything Over 5MPH It’s Does The Noise, & Tries To Pull The Car To The Left. It Gets Louder, & More Strong As I Accelerate. I’ve Never Had Problems Out Of This Car, Nor Has It Acted This Way Or Anything Close. It Was All Like A Random Happening. Now I Feel I’m At A Loss As No One Knows The Actual Problem. As My Fiancé & I Both Work. We Have No Other Transportation, & Have No Way Of Getting A New Car At The Moment.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-18
- VIN: JN8AZ08T96W
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My car horn recently stopped working when depressing the areas on the steering column with the horn icon. I almost got into multiple accidents, first when driving on the interstate and could not honk on aggressive drivers who sharply pulled in front of me when driving; and later when trying to park in a parking lot and another driver reversed into me because he could not see me and I could not honk to signal him that I was in his blindspot. I checked with my mechanic of 23 years and he found that there was no issue with the fuse or the horn itself - the horn activates when manually triggered. However, there is a problem with the relay from the steering column to the horn and with this Nissan model, that relay is integrated with the air bag in the steering column. It's possible that there's also an issue with the airbag but it's never had reason to deploy. Lodging this incident because the horn is a central part of any car safety system and there seems to be a manufacturer defect in the relay that is integrated into the steering column to trigger the horn.
SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-06
- VIN: JN8AZ08W36W
- Components: SUSPENSION,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: We were driving 35 MPH, and the rear tires started squealing. We pulled over and saw that both rear tires were slanted inward and the left rear was twisted, not going straight. I tried to drive it further and the rear tires would not turn. After going a block, we parked it and got a ride home. The next day, we had it towed to the local Nissan Dealership. They inspected it and told us that the rear subframe had given out, due to rust. Thankfully, we were not going fast, as this situation made the whole rear suspension disconnected from the vehicle. I have called Nissan Customer Affairs, and they just quote what the warranty is on the vehicle. They say they can do absolutely nothing for us. Many Nissan Forums have multiple customers posting a similar problem. Who buys a car, and the frame just gives out? I am extremely disappointed with Nissan's lack of responsibility and customer service. I'd like them to offer some resolution. Ironically, we also own a '13 Nissan Murano. I am very concerned that the same thing could happen to this vehicle in the next few years. If that's the case, I'm going to sell it in a year or two. Please help us out NHTSA. Thank you for your time.

I'm glad to hear that you like this car! It seems to have a good repair record and provides a nice ride. It's also great that it has flexibility for load carrying. I understand that you have a couple of complaints, one being the CVT and the other being the rooftop rack. Around 75,000 miles, the CVT started to show problems, specifically failure to upshift and revving up to 3K rpm or more at 20 or more MPH. Of course, this was sporadic and never showed itself when taken to the dealership until the day when it finally appeared and you drove it over, revving mightily all the way. Nissan replaced the transmission under warranty, which is great. The CVT has always been functional but rather halting, which may not be to everyone's liking. The other complaint applies not only to the Murano but to many other SUV's of all brands. The rooftop luggage rack consists of two rails parallel to the long axis of the car, but does not have an essential transverse front rail. It's stylish, but unfortunately of absolutely no value when trying to prevent a load from sliding backward. You need to fasten a load to a front rail to prevent it from sliding backward. Overall, it sounds like a fine vehicle and it's great that it's your third Nissan.

Just wanted to say that this car is outstanding! It has exceeded all my expectations and more. I highly recommend it. Even my wife, who is only 5ft tall, was able to adjust the pedals to her liking and loved it. The backup camera is also great. If you're considering this car, I would definitely recommend getting the SL model. I used to be a Toyota customer for years, but the styling and features of this car for the money are unbeatable.

I've been really pleased with my Nissan. As a bigger guy, I've struggled to find a cabin that's roomy enough, but this one has plenty of leg and head room in both the front and back. The fit and finish of the car is good, and the gas mileage is even better than my old Montero. I average about 18 to 19 miles in predominant city driving, and on the highway, it performs great. The AWD is a real plus in the Midwest, providing a nice, tight drive. While I'm still getting used to the deceleration with the CVT, the car is very responsive in acceleration, which is a nice feature. There is a slight hiccup when slowing down, but it's nothing major. You'll also need to learn to feather the gas in the snow/slush, but overall, I'm really happy with my purchase.

I recently purchased this car with 26000 miles on it and I must say, it's the nicest car I have ever owned! It's quiet, comfortable, and powerful. I typically get an honest 23 mpg with it, although I do mostly highway driving. However, like any car, it's not without its flaws. Firstly, I've noticed that it's a bit short on storage. There aren't enough drawers or pouches to put all my stuff. Secondly, the doors don't prop and hold open at enough convenient positions, which can be a bit inconvenient. Thirdly, I've noticed that the AM radio reception is poor. Although FM is fine, AM is still handy for news and such, and this car can't pull in most of the stations my old radio could. Lastly, I find the sliding armrest thing to be a bit silly. Overall, I still think this car is great and I'm happy with my purchase!

I can tell you really love your Murano! It's great to hear that it has been reliable and easy to drive for the past 12 years. I hope you get to enjoy it for many more years to come!

Congratulations on your new purchase! I'm glad to hear that you were able to find a great deal on a SL AWD with touring edition Murano. It sounds like you did your research and made an informed decision.
