2005 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano (Japanese: 日産・ムラーノ, Hepburn: Nissan Murāno) is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Nissan since May 2002 for the 2003 model year, and currently in its third generation.
As Nissan's first crossover SUV for the United States and Canada, the Murano was designed at Nissan America in La Jolla, California, and was based on the Nissan FF-L platform shared with the third generation Altima. The European version of the Murano began sales in 2004.
The Murano was Nissan's only crossover SUV in the United States until September 2007, when the Rogue went on sale. In Canada, the X-Trail had been on sale as Nissan's second car based SUV since 2004 as a model for 2005; it was replaced by the 2008 Rogue at the end of 2007. The Murano is sized between the Pathfinder and the now defunct Xterra (which was replaced by the Rogue as a compact SUV). A convertible variant, the Murano CrossCabriolet, was available for the second-generation model for the model years of 2011 to 2014.
The nameplate Murano derives from the Italian islands of Murano and the namesake Murano art glass for which the islands are widely known.

Common 2005 Nissan Murano problems
The Nissan Murano 2005 is equipped with the Nissan 3.5L V6 VQ35DE engine, which is generally reliable but has some issues. The most significant problem with this engine is its increased oil consumption, which is particularly noticeable when the vehicle has high mileage. The engine tends to consume more oil, which can lead to engine starvation if the owner does not regularly check and maintain the oil level. If the car produces a lot of black smoke, it is advisable to avoid it.
Another common issue with the engine is the timing chain tensioner. This tensioner is made of plastic and is responsible for maintaining the tension on the timing chain. If it fails, the timing chain can break, causing a rattling noise, or it can jump, causing engine timing issues and potential engine damage. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that the tensioner is in good condition to avoid these problems.
The valve cover gaskets are also prone to oil leaks, which can be expensive to repair. These gaskets are designed to prevent oil from leaking, but they can wear out over time, especially in high-mileage vehicles. If left unattended, oil leaks can cause significant damage to the engine and other components.
The Nissan Murano 2005 also has some issues with its transmission. The CVT transmission is known to have problems, particularly when the vehicle has high mileage. In some cases, the transmission may fail, requiring expensive repairs. However, Nissan has extended the warranty to cover these issues, which is a positive aspect.
The seat on the driver's side is also a problematic area in the Nissan Murano 2005. The seat frame is prone to cracking, which can be expensive to repair. The plastic worm gear on the electric seat is also known to go out, and the dealer does not sell the part. However, a solution can be found on forums for around $20.
The exhaust manifold is also prone to cracking, and the cam positioning sensor can fail, causing the car to take a long time to start and die unexpectedly while driving. The oil filter is also known to have leaks, which can be challenging to diagnose, but the solution is to replace the spacer between the block and the oil filter.
In summary, the Nissan Murano 2005 has several common problems, including increased oil consumption, timing chain tensioner issues, valve cover gasket leaks, transmission problems, seat frame cracking, plastic worm gear failure, exhaust manifold cracking, and cam positioning sensor failure. While some of these issues can be expensive to repair, Nissan has extended the warranty to cover some of them, which is a positive aspect. It is essential to maintain the vehicle regularly and address any issues promptly to avoid more significant problems in the future.

Website forums indicate many consumers conclude this problem is due to inferior design (hole in frame allows water to condensate/pool & rust the frame from the inside-out). 2. I conclude this part failed prior to the standard benchmark-life of automotive parts of 20-years. 3. I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the Murano. When I downsized from my Chevy Tahoe, I was looking for a smaller SUV with a lot of interior space, especially in the back seat, and I loved the sporty style of the Murano. I was so excited to purchase an '05 the first week they came out, and it rode very smoothly and quietly. I was also thrilled to see that it had much better gas mileage (21 mpg avg) compared to my Tahoe's 14mpg. However, I've had a few issues in the fourth year of owning it. My power seat and driver door lock have both broken, and I've had to replace my tires twice. Now, my engine is making a knocking noise, and I'm told it's probably the motor mounts, which will cost another $900. It's definitely been an expensive car to maintain, but I still have fond memories of it.
-
I traded my Mercedes ML320 (after a final $4000 repair bill) for something more dependable, and the Murano was my choice - and one I haven't regretted so far. The Mighty Mo has rapid acceleration, sports car handling, a decent AWD system, and good all-around gas mileage (I see 21 city/hwy), all wrapped in a dependable Japanese package. While the AWD system isn't as responsive as the system in the Mercedes, it has done a good job of getting me around in bad weather. All around, it's a great vehicle with a spacious interior. I'm very pleased and would definitely buy another one.
-
Looked at reviews for months. When I drove the SE, I was hooked. It's been great so far - not a single squeak and very smooth acceleration. If you want to know the mileage, just press the button and it will tell you. The controls are easy to figure out. I absolutely love this car/truck, although I'm not quite sure what it is!
-
Although the car has good mechanicals and style, it seems to have been plagued by a number of design and quality issues. Unfortunately, these include a defective power passenger window, a faulty power outlet in the front, a broken driver's seat motor (which is a big $1,000 problem, as Nissan wants to replace the entire seat for a plastic gear in the motor that has universally failed), bubbling chrome plating on the grille, and lots of squeaks and rattles. It's concerning that these issues are already showing up on a $40,000+ car, especially since you're only putting 2,800 miles a year on it. It's hard to say what will happen at 15,000 or 20,000 miles. However, I'm here to help and we can work together to find a solution to these problems.
-
Handles great, u-turns tight, and has plenty of inside space. The visibility is fantastic, making it a pleasure to drive. Anyone lucky enough to have this vehicle will fall in love with it. It handles even better than our old RX300, which was already very heavy, sturdy, and comfortable.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my '05 SL 2WD. I've had it since it arrived off the boat in October 2005 and it currently has 132,000 miles. This is the first time I've ever kept a vehicle over 75,000 miles before! I drive 65 miles R/T 4-5 days a week through the beautiful Arizona desert and farmlands at 45-70 MPH, mostly using cruise control. In the summer, I average 21.5 mpg or around 420 mpt. In the fall-spring without A/C, I average 23.6 or 475 mpt. The most I've ever gotten was a confirmed 525 mpt one winter! My local dealership has done all recall work as well as routine maintenance, and I'm happy to say that it has been a great family ride that has never left us stranded. Unlike many Fords or Chryslers I've owned, this car has been a reliable companion. Sure, it has its known problems, but this one is no different. Thank you for taking the time to read about my experience!

I recently purchased my second Nissan, after owning a reliable 98 Pathfinder with 210,000 miles. Unfortunately, this one had a power steering fluid hose leak at 45K miles ($400) and an electronic board issue at 60K that limited my power ($450). Additionally, I've had to replace the battery multiple times ($90 each time) and the visor keeps falling on its own ($400 for a dealer replacement seems excessive). There have also been two leaks, one from the engine oil and one from the transmission ($850). The engine oxygen sensor also failed ($450). Currently, the drive train feels rough and not as smooth as before, which is concerning. I'm hesitant to take it to the dealer and see what they find, but I'm hopeful that these issues can be resolved soon.

I bought a used 2005 Nissan Murano with 67,476 miles on the odometer from Landers McLarty Nissan in Huntsville, Alabama on August 17, 2011. The salesperson, Eukrina, assured me that the dealership only sells dependable and trustworthy vehicles that meet their high standards. However, two weeks after the purchase, I noticed some issues with the car, including vibration and knocking noise from under the hood. After a mechanical inspection, it was revealed that two motor mounts were broken, and the total repair estimate was $847.12. I contacted the dealership to see if they could help with the repair cost, but they were not willing to assist. Despite their claims that I must have caused the issue, I believe that the dealership sold me a lemon. I had to replace the front engine mount on September 12, 2011, at a cost of $400.00, and the rear lower engine mount on October 15, 2011, at a cost of $402.15. At 72,469 miles, the service engine light came on, and after an engine diagnostic test, it was discovered that the catalytic converter was bad. I was advised that this could be a manufacturer-covered replacement issue. On December 20, 2011, Landers McLarty Nissan of Huntsville conducted a diagnostic test on my vehicle and informed me that the catalytic converter was faulty. However, they also mentioned that the vehicle had passed the emission control test and suggested that bad gasoline might be the cause of the issue. I explained that I had only used Chevron regular grade gasoline since purchasing the vehicle on August 17th, 2011. Unfortunately, they were unable to offer any further assistance and recommended that I try using premium gasoline to see if it resolves the problem. I consulted a reputable mechanic and repair shop, who informed me that this was a tactic to avoid covering the repair/replacement of the $500.00 part under the manufacturer's warranty. In addition to this, I had to spend an additional $1,005.73 to replace both struts, shocks on the rear, bushings (both lower-front), upper radiator hose, front exhaust gusset, drive belts, and two tires.

Bought new in 2005 and after 3 years was disappointed about purchase. It's frustrating to have so many recalls on one vehicle. The interior rattles are so loud that it's hard to concentrate. The squeaking brakes are also a bit of a nuisance. When the exterior door handle fell off after 5 years of ownership, I decided it was time for a change. I had originally planned to pass this vehicle on to my daughter, but I care about her too much to do that.

I've had my car for a year now and unfortunately, I've experienced a few issues. The sun shades have been faulty and have fallen down unexpectedly, which has caused me some concern while driving. Additionally, there has been a persistent leak on the driver's side every time it rains, despite having paid for repairs. I've also had to replace the radiator, alternator, all tires, and the battery. It's been a bit of a challenge, but I'm determined to get my car back to its former glory. Despite these issues, I still love the look, drive, and feel of my car. I've owned cars that were much older than this one and had far fewer problems, so I'm a bit puzzled. Perhaps it's just a matter of the make's quality.
